En av grunderna i buddhismen är altruism, det vill säga att utföra goda gärningar utan intentionen att förvänta sig något tillbaka. I denna studie intervjuades 6 stycken buddhister om konsekvenserna av altruistiskt beteende. Deltagarna talade om att små goda handlingar har betydelse för både dem själva och de som möts av den goda handlingen. De kände sig bland annat gladare när de hjälpte andra och påpekade att altruism skapar långsiktig glädje. Även samhället kunde påverkas positivt av altruism enligt respondenterna, som nämnde att alla levande varelser är sammanlänkade. De talade även om det negativa med egoism. One of the bases in Buddhism is altruism, which means to do good deeds without the intention of expecting anything in return. In this study 6 Buddhists were interviewed about the consequenses of altruistic behavior. The participants said that small good deeds have significance both for themselves and the ones who the good deed is aimed at. They felt, for instance, more happy when they helped others and pointed out that altruism creates happiness in the long term. The society could also be positively affected by altruism according to the participants, who mentioned that all living beings are linked together. They also talked about the negative aspects of selfishness. A tematic analysis was done and the main themes were: Altruism, the self, and suffering
