Fossil fuel subsidies and other state support for fossil fuels are forbidden by the Kyoto Protocol and otherinternational treaties. However, they are still commonly used. This publication presents and analysesdiverse state support mechanisms for fossil fuels in Finland in 2003-2010. Total of 38 supportmechanisms are covered in quantitative analysis and some other mechanisms are mentionedqualitatively only. For some mechanisms the study includes a longer historical perspective. This is thecase for tax subsidies for crude oil based traffic fuels that have been maintained in Finland since 1965.
