Abstract [en]
Today, recycling and the circular model are key issues for the environment and our society. This includes the treatment of batteries after use. Recycling processes exist for the different types of batteries, but they require the batteries to be sorted by chemical family. Nowadays, batteries are mainly sorted by hand.
The purpose of this Super Sorting project is to provide a fully automated solution for sorting batteries according to their chemical family, using sensor-based analysis.
This master thesis focuses on battery pre-positioning processes before their analysis. The analysis phase requires that batteries are aligned in a certain orientation and that they are spaced far enough apart to avoid any interference during the analysis.
This thesis therefore involved researching systems capable of aligning and spacing parts of different sizes and shapes, and then adapting some of these systems for domestic batteries. Only purely mechanical solutions were studied in this project to guarantee simplicity and reliability compared with electronic systems.
Finally, several operating principles were proposed and are explained in this report. Various simulations and practical tests were also carried out to verify certain systems.
This Super Sorting project is destined to be taken up and continued, with the aim of validating the battery pre-positioning systems and then integrating them into a complete, industrial-grade sorting station.
