Conceptual machine solution for reconditioning of formwork timber (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This bachelor’s thesis was conducted in collaboration with Beijer Byggmaterial and University West.

The objective was to develop a conceptual design for an automated, mobile machine solution capable of cleaning and treating formwork timber for reuse at a construction site. The project background is the increasing focus on resource efficiency, sustainability and reducing manual labour within the construction industry, where reconditioning of formwork timber can play a significant role.

The work followed a structured development process in which existing machine solutions, technical requirements, and practical conditions were analysed. The method included literature studies, site visits, reviews of existing solutions, and the use of QFD (Quality Function Deployment) to structure and prioritize design requirements.

The result is a fully integrated, automated solution that handles feeding, cleaning, surface treatment, and output in a compact and closed continuous process. The machine consists of several functional subsystems, including steel scrapers, rotating steel brushes, and a recirculating oil system.

The concept has been developed with a focus on ease of use, low cost, and both technical and ergonomic performance. Although certain functions, such as the automated handling of fasteners, could not be resolved within the scope of the project, the proposed solution is considered well-founded and ready for further technical development and practical validation.
