Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
This thesis was carried out at Parker Hannifin Manufacturing Sweden AB in Trollhättan and focuses on improving the certification handling process for standards 2.2, 3.1, and the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). The current process is characterized by manual document management, personnel dependency, and long lead times, which increases the risk of errors among design engineers and production supervisors. The purpose of this study is to develop a proposal for improving the certification process for the specified standards in a way that makes it more time efficient and less susceptible to human error.
The goal is to generate a concept for automated certificate handling and to reduce the risk of mismanagement caused by the human factor. To achieve this, a current state analysis was conducted based on observations, interviews, and value stream mapping.
The analysis formed the basis for a needs and requirements list as well as a structured problem picture, where bottlenecks, information gaps, and unclear responsibilities were identified. The work followed the first four phases of the DMAIC methodology: Define, Measure, Analyze, and Improve.Several improvement proposals were developed and combined into different concepts using a concept combination table.
These concepts were evaluated with the support of a concept scoring matrix, in which the weighting of criteria was based on the challenges identified in the current state and the needs of the organization. The concept with the highest potential was selected for further development and analysis.
The final concept, Concept A, involves transferring the responsibility of certificate creation and distribution to the operators at the end of the production flow. By eliminating the production supervisor’s involvement in this step, the process becomes less dependent on specific individuals and the lead time is reduced by an average of eight hours.
The results show that the concept is feasible, robust, and promotes a more standardized way of working. It thus fulfills the goal of developing an effective improvement proposal for certification handling and answers all the research questions defined in the study.
