Recommendations for implementation of ERP systems in consulting firms (English)
Abstract [en]
Efficient resource utilization and a high level of information structure are crucial for a company's long-term competitiveness. By implementing an ERP system that supports the needs for the organizations, companies can achieve improved collaboration, traceability and decision making. The study was initiated after discussions with AQ Engineering in Trollhättan, during which it became clear that AQ Engineering was planning to implement the Monitor ERP system. The study investigates the implementation of the Monitor ERP system with a particular focus on the role of consultancy services.
The aim of the study is to identify success factors and challenges related to ERP implementation, with the goal of providing improvement suggestions to avoid common pitfalls. The study includes data collection, a current state analysis and risk management methods to identify the most risk prone phases. The work is primary based on qualitative methodology.
The theoretical framework includes findings from previous studies on ERP implementations, addressing common tasks and risk elements related to the implementation phases. The theory is considered essential for understanding the study’s context.
Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with employees from various departments, complemented by observations and document studies of existing work processes. The collected data was visualized with flowcharts, pie charts and a summary table.
The risk assessment analysis highlighted potential failures in the implementation based on the collected data. The risks were identified through a risk assessment analysis. Three main challenges were identified from the risk assessment analysis, relating to the phases of user training, data conversation and preparation for system go-live.
The analysis shows that the following factors are critical for a successful implementation:
• Ensuring data quality during core data conversation.
• Company-adapted user training.
• Comprehensive checks prior to system go-live.
