Click Heatmaps for UX and UI optimization (English)
Abstract [en]

In this study we explore how click heatmaps are used as a tool in the UX/UI process to understand user behavior and improve digital interfaces. Through qualitative interviews with professionals in design and digital development, we gained insight into how click heatmaps are interpreted and prioritized in design decisions. The study takes its theoretical starting point in affordance theory, which is reworked by Norman (1999).

The study reveals that, although heatmaps are widely established as analytical tools, their usage and interpretation vary significantly across organizations. The findings emphasize the importance of clear objectives, integration with other UX methods, and a strategic approach in order to draw meaningful conclusions from visualized user data.

Abstract [sv]

I detta arbete undersöker vi hur click heatmaps används som ett verktyg i UX/UI-processen för att förstå användarbeteende och förbättra digitala gränssnitt. Genom kvalitativa intervjuer med yrkesverksamma inom design och digital utveckling har vi fått inblick i hur click heatmaps tolkas och prioriteras i designbeslut.

Studien tar sin teoretiska utgångspunkt i affordance-teorin som är omarbetad av Norman (1999). Studien visar att även om heatmaps är ett etablerat analysverktyg så varierar användningen och tolkningen mellan företag.

Resultaten belyser behovet av tydliga mål, kombinationen med andra UX-verktyg samt en medveten strategi för att kunna dra meningsfulla slutsatser från den visuella datan.
