StandardLens: Artificial intelligence for Minimum Security Requirements in Cybersecurity Standards

Abstract [en]

A lot of security standards are available to cover the security gaps for organizations. These standards can overlap, especially for organizations with multiple scopes of work. To avoid overlaps while applying security standards, institutions like NIST have defined the overlaps. However, the large number of security standards and their updates make it very hard to define the overlaps every year because it costs a lot of money and requires security experts. This study used artificial intelligence to define the overlap between ISO 27001: 2022 and NIST SP 800-53. This helps identify overlaps faster than humans and also avoids human errors that can occur while addressing the overlaps. The study found a new AI security model that provides greater value to the security aspects included in both ISO and NIST documents. The model effectively addresses overlaps and provides greater accuracy and value in managing security standards. Additionally, we have tried other AI that can find similarities between texts to compare with our AI model.
