Background: Psychiatric care has difficulty in getting a good transition from children and adolescent psychiatry to adult psychiatry. Getting a good care without interruption is a major challenge for psychiatry. At the age of 18, you are expected to become an adult and by law seen as an adult. It is a challenging period of life as it is. If you have an mental illness as a child and have been enrolled in the children and adolescent psychiatry care and at the age of 18, you need care, you will be transferred to adult psychiatry.

Aim: The aim of the study was to describe patients with attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) diagnosis experiences of the transition from to adult psychiatry.

Method: The method was a qualitative, descriptive study, based on eight interviews with patients with ADHD diagnosis and their experiences of the transfer from BUP to adult psychiatry. The interviews were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.

Results: The results made up in two categories, ”Standing on your own” and ”Need for support and structure” and four subcategories that were ”With or without family members participation”, ”Uncertainty about what is waiting”, ”A long wait” and ”Lack of cooperation between the clinics”

Conclusion: Standing on your own describes how the informants family support changed and their own responsibilities increased. Relatives had previously assisted the informants in the planning and brought their action when they did not manage it themselves. The informants also described that their relatives motivated them to continue care. It was found that the informants lacked support and structure during the transfer. They described the migration as messy and that the activities had no cooperation and did not know how it worked on the respective clinic. The informants also described that the information they received during the process was inadequate, and they wished the family support had continued.

Den psykiatriska vården har svårt att få till bra överflyttningar från barn och ungdomspsykiatrin (BUP) till vuxenpsykiatrin. Att få till en bra vård utan glapp är en stor utmaning för psykiatrin. Vid 18 års ålder förväntas man bli vuxen och det är en utmanande period i livet som det är. Har man någon form av psykisk ohälsa som barn och varit inskriven på BUP och vid 18 års ålder fortsatt är i behov av vård kommer man att flyttas över till vuxenpsykiatrin.

Forskning inom detta område i Sverige är begränsat och syftet med studien var att se hur unga vuxna upplevt överflytten. Då författarna arbetar i dessa båda verksamheter har de sett att det finns brister. Författarna har studerat upplevelser av att överflyttas från BUP till vuxenpsykiatrin hos unga vuxna med ADHD-diagnos. Författarna har intervjuat åtta patienter fyra män och fyra kvinnor mellan 19-24 år som varit inskrivna på BUP och när de blev 18 år flyttades över till vuxenpsykiatrin. Intervjuerna analyserades sedan med kvalitativ innehållsanalys och ur det framträdde två kategorier, Att stå på egna ben och Behov av stöd och struktur. Stå på egna ben beskriver hur deras anhörigstöd förändrades samt det egna ansvaret som ökade. Anhöriga hade tidigare hjälpt informanterna i planeringen och fört deras talan då de inte klarat det själva. Informanterna beskrev också att de anhöriga motiverat dem till fortsatt vård.

Det framkom att informanterna saknade stöd och struktur vid överflytten. De beskrev överflytten som rörig och att verksamheterna inte hade något samarbete och inte visste hur det fungerade på respektive mottagning. Informanterna beskrev också att informationen de fick under processen var bristfällig och de önskade att anhörigas stöd hade fått fortsatt.
