Generative AI has, in just a few years, developed into a tool that is regularly used within the IT industry. This tool offers great potential to streamline work processes but may also pose a threat to jobs in the labor market. The purpose of this study is to examine how webmaster students at University West (Högskolan Väst) perceive the impact of generative AI on their future professional lives. This thesis presents a quantitative study with qualitative elements in the form of two open-ended questions. Twenty-five students from the Webmaster program participated.

The results show that the students have an ambivalent attitude toward generative AI, with many reporting both hope and concern. Those who have independently learned more about generative AI tend to experience both greater worry and greater hope. The study suggests that the students’ views on generative AI are influenced by a combination of technostress and techno-eustress. One of the conclusions is that there is a need to further develop competence in generative AI amongst students.

Generativ AI har på bara några år utvecklats till ett verktyg som används regelbundet inom IT-branschen. Detta verktyg ger både stora möjligheter till att effektivisera arbetet, men kan också utgöra ett hot mot arbetstillfällen på arbetsmarknaden. Syftet med den här studien är att undersöka hur webmasterstudenter vid Högskolan Väst ser på generativ AI:s påverkan på deras kommande yrkesliv. I det här examensarbetet presenteras en kvantitativ studie med kvalitativa inslag i form av två frisvarsfrågor. Tjugofem studenter från Webmasterprogrammet deltog.

Resultaten visar att studenterna har en ambivalent inställning till generativ AI där många uppger att de känner bland annat både hopp och oro. De som själva lärt sig mer om generativ AI på egen hand tenderar att uppleva både högre oro och större hopp. Studien antyder att studenternas syn på generativ AI är influerad av en kombination av technostress och techno-eustress. Slutsatsen är bland annat att det finns ett behov av att utveckla sin kompetens kring generativ AI bland studenter.
