Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Arbetsengagemang har visat sig ha en tydlig koppling till flera faktorer med hög väsentlighet utifrån ett organisatoriskt perspektiv men också från ett individuellt perspektiv. Vidare har det transformativa ledarskapet visat sig ha en association till arbetsengagemang. Däremot är den kvantitativa forskningen begränsad vad gäller jämförelse i arbetsengagemang hos medarbetare baserade på en genomförd utbildningsinsats i ett transformativt ledarskap.

Syfte: Syftet med studien är därför att undersöka huruvida det finns en signifikant skillnad i arbetsengagemang mellan medarbetare vars chefer har genomgått en utbildningsinsats inom transformativt ledarskap och de medarbetare vars chef inte har gjort det

Metod och material: Studien har tillämpat en kvantitativ metod med en enkät som datainsamlingsmetod samt ett stratifierat urval. Enkäten baserar sig på Utrecht Work engagement scale (UWES 17) samt kontrollvariabler som visat sig kunna ha ett samband med arbetsengagemang. Totalt har 200 respondenter deltagit i studien varav 89 hade en chef som har genomgått en utbildningsinsats i transformativt ledarskap och 111 hade inte det. Ett T-test användes i syfte att jämföra medelvärdet på svaren mellan de två grupperna.

Resultat: Studiens resultat visar ingen signifikant skillnad i medarbetarnas arbetsengagemang mellan de två grupperna som undersökts. Ett resultat som inte nödvändigtvis indikerar att ett samband mellan det transformativa ledarskapet och arbetsengagemang saknas, utan att det kan vara mer komplext än att kunna kopplas till endast en faktor.

Abstract [en]

Background: Work engagement has been shown to have a clear connection to several factors of high significance from an organizational perspective but also from an individual perspective. Furthermore, transformational leadership has been shown to have an association with work engagement. However, quantitative research is limited regarding comparison of work engagement among employees based on a completed training intervention in transformational leadership.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is therefore to examine whether there is a significant difference in work engagement between employees whose managers have participated in an education in transformational leadership and employees whose leader has not.

Method and material: The study applied a quantitative method using a survey as the data collection, along with a stratified sampling. The survey is based on UWES 17 as well as control variables that have previously been shown to potentially correlate with work engagement. A total of 200 respondents participated in the study, of which 89 had a manager who has participated in a transformational leadership training program. and 111 had not. A T-test was used to compare the mean responses between the two groups.

Results: The study´s result show no significant difference in perceived work engagement between the two examined groups. A result that does not necessarily indicate that a relationship between transformational leadership and work engagement is absent, but rather that it may be more complex than being linked to a single factor.
