Healthcare is very important for humans including animals, that’s why it’s crucial to secure data transmission between devices like smartwatches and phones. Protocols like MQTT and CoAP support this data communication, and this thesis presents a Python simulation through PyCharm that compares MQTT and CoAP with the use of a MQTT and CoAP broker. The simulations were performed in University West’s cisco lab rooms D206 and D216B. The results proved that both protocols can be used in healthcare, including healthcare applications such as smartwatches or phones. However, MQTT is more suitable for healthcare because MQTT has more security features than CoAP. MQTT supports full TLS-based encryption, meanwhile CoAP only offers partial security features. This makes MQTT a more preferred choice for safeguarding healthcare information.
