Abstract [en]
This thesis will examine the inflationary effects of the Russia-Ukraine war on the European Union (EU), with a focus on Sweden as a case study. The war began in February 2022 and triggered widespread disruptions in energy and food supply chains, significantly contributing to record-high inflation levels across the EU. Using quantitative research methods, including descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analyses based on monthly data from 2020 to 2024, this study examines how macroeconomic variables, such as food and energy inflation, unemployment, and consumer confidence, influence overall inflation. The findings reveal a strong interdependence between EU and Swedish inflation, with EU-wide shocks, particularly in energy and food markets, passed on across national economies. Regression results indicate that while domestic factors, such as consumer confidence and unemployment, play a role, external shocks remain the dominant drivers. The study highlights the complex dynamics of inflation during geopolitical crises and underscores the need for coordinated and adaptive policy responses at both national and supranational levels
