Bakgrund:

Psykisk ohälsa är ett växande globalt folkhälsoproblem som medför både mänskligt lidande och stora samhällskostnader. Primärvården är ofta den första kontakten för personer med psykisk ohälsa, där distriktssköterskan har en viktig roll i det hälsofrämjande och förebyggande arbetet. Tidigare forskning har visat att stigmatiserande attityder förekommer, vilket påverkar mötet negativt. Distriktssköterskan upplevde även osäkerhet i mötet med aktuell patientgrupp. Att förstå distriktssköterskans erfarenheter i mötet med aktuell patientgrupp är därför betydelsefullt.

Syfte:

Att belysa distriktssköterskans erfarenheter i mötet med patienter med psykisk ohälsa inom primärvården.

Metod:

En systematisk litteraturstudie med kvalitativ ansats genomfördes. Totalt inkluderades tolv vetenskapliga artiklar. Data analyserades med stöd av Evans analysmetod i fyra steg, där teman och subteman identifierades.

Resultat:

Resultatet presenterades i tre huvudteman med sex tillhörande subtema. Det första temat Kommunikationens roll framhåller distriktssköterskans kommunikativa förmåga som central i mötet. Det andra temat Förutsättningar i mötet visade att kunskap och tid var avgörande för att kunna arbeta personcentrerat och erbjuda vård av god kvalitet. I det tredje temat Organisatoriska faktorer framkom behovet av ledningsstöd och samarbete för att främja en fungerande och hållbar vårdmiljö.

Slutsats:

Resultatet visade att dialogen mellan distriktssköterska och patient behövde präglas av tillit, närvaro och respekt. Ökad kunskap, fortbildning och stöd från organisationen var andra viktiga förutsättningar för att kunna möta behovet.

Background:

Mental ill-health is a growing global public health concern, causing both human suffering and significant societal costs. Primary health care often represents the first point of contact for individuals experiencing mental health issues, where district nurses play a key role in health promotion and preventive care. Previous research has shown that stigmatizing attitudes occur, which may negatively affect the encounter. Also, district nurses felt insecure in their professional role meeting these patients. Gaining a deeper understanding of district nurses’ experiences in these encounters is therefore of great importance.

Aim: 

To explore district nurses’ experiences of encountering patients with mental ill-health in primary health care.

Method:

A systematic literature review with a qualitative approach was conducted. A total of 12 scientific articles were included. Data were analyzed using Evans’ four-step analysis method, through which themes and subthemes were identified.

Results:

The findings were represented in three main themes with six corresponding subthemes. The first theme The role of communication highlights the importance of the district nurse’s communication skills in the encounter. The second theme Conditions of the meeting encompassed that knowledge and time were crucial to be able to offer person-centered and qualitative care. The third theme, Organizational factors, emphasizes the need för managerial support and professional cooperation to ensure quality care and a sustainable work environment.

Conclusion:

The result showed that the dialogue between the district nurse and the patient needed to be characterized by trust and respect. Increased knowledge, continuous skill development and organizational support was other important prerequisites for being able to meet the needs of this patient group.
