Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund:

Abstract [en]

Background:

Managers are expected to take responsibility for employee health, yet their own work environment is rarely given attention. To prevent negative outcomes such as poor health and low work engagement, organizations need to ensure that managers and leaders also have access to sufficient resources, both external and internal, to meet the demands of working life.

Aim:

The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between managers and leaders’ psychological capital (PsyCap) and their experience of health-promoting leadership.

Method and Materials:

A web-based survey was completed by 121 individuals in managerial positions. Measurements were conducted using the CPC-12R and HPLC instruments, both demonstrating good reliability.

Results:

The findings showed a significant, although weak, positive correlation between PsyCap and health-promoting leadership. The study highlights the importance of ensuring that managers, too, experience supportive and health-promoting working conditions. Based on the Conservation of Resources theory, the discussion explores how managers’ psychological resources can be strengthened through organizational support. Providing managers with access to both internal and external resources appear to be a prerequisite for sustainable leadership
