Social Media and Mental Health among Children and Adolescents : A Dual Nature (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

In recent years, both mental health issues and the use of social media have increased among children and young people. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there are any associations between mental health and social media, including internalized and externalized problems, and whether there are differences between boys and girls. The study was conducted on 189 participants between the ages of 16-20 through the project “Gaming, social media and young people’s mental health”. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation analysis and t-test. The results indicated that the use of3social media has a negative impact on the well-being of adolescents and young people, with girls tending to show more internalized problems.
