I denna rapport redovisas resultatet av ett regionalt projekt ”Interprofessionellt lärande genom en ny yrkesgrupp peer supporter för en bättre vård”. I projektet/studien genomfördes 13 intervjuer och en uppföljningsstudie år 2020. Studien hade totalt 26 deltagare. Uppdragsgivare var Nationell Samverkan för Psykisk Hälsa Västra Götaland och Göteborg, NSPH Västra Götaland och Göteborg.

Studien rörde vårdpersonal som i sina vårdlag hade inkluderat en ny profession peer supporter, som är en person med egna erfarenheter av psykisk ohälsa eller funktionsnedsättning/variation, och som har utbildats och blivit anställda i psykiatriska och socialpsykiatriska verksamheter för att stödja patienter i deras återhämtning. Detta är ett led i en återhämtningsinriktad utveckling (Repper et al., 2013a) som har vårdfokus. Till skillnad mot det vårdfokus, som hittills har tillämpats i peer supportarbete, användes här ett pedagogiskt fokus. Intresset riktades mot det som benämns interprofessionellt lärande (IPL), som är lärandet mellan olika yrkeskategorier.

Avsikten var att undersöka och stödja IPL hos vårdpersonal som, i sina vårdlag, har inkluderat peer supportrar samt att studera vad som kännetecknar peer supportrarnas professionalitet. Ett annat syfte var att upptäcka strukturer för att organisera kvalitets- och effektivitetsökning genom att främja IPL. För att stödja IPL och besvara frågorna genomfördes olika typer av intervjuer. Dialogmöten genomfördes med vårdpersonal som har tagit emot peer supportrar. Peer supportrar deltog i en fokusgruppsintervju. Individuella intervjuer genomfördes med de deltagare som inte hade möjlighet att närvara på dialogmöte/fokusgruppsintervju.

Resultatet visar hur vårdpersonal på olika sätt tog tillvara peer supportrars bidrag samt potentialen för IPL, men där lärandet motverkades av en hierarki. Resultatet visar också hur peer supportrars professionalitet kännetecknas av jämlikhet. Vidare, hur peer supportrars kompetens kan användas för att främja IPL. Detta lärande, föreslår studien, kan genom nya rutiner och lärandefokus stödjas kontinuerligt i dessa teamarbeten.

This report presents the results of a regional project focusing on "Interprofessional learning through a new occupational group – peer support workers (PSWs) – for better care". The project was commissioned by the Swedish Partnership for Mental Health Västra Götaland and Gothenburg.

The aim was to investigate and support interprofessional learning (IPL) among teams that included PSWs by exploring

a) the characteristics of their professionality, and

b) the structures that promote IPL and thereby increase quality and efficiency of the team.

A PSW is a person who has personal experience of mental health challenges and uses this experience (their experiential knowledge and skills) to support others in their recovery. The employment of PSWs in mental health services has been shown to improve the recovery of people using services, the recovery of thePSW and the recovery focus of the service (Repper et al., 2013a). In this study 13 interviews were undertaken with healthcare professionals working in teams that included PSWs at baseline and follow-up with and a follow-up study were conducted in 2020. The study had a total of 26 participants. In contrast to the care focus, which has so far been applied to PSW work, a pedagogical/educational focus was applied in this study.

The interest was directed towards what is called interprofessional learning (IPL). This is the learning that occurs between different occupational categories. In order to both understand and support the IPL occurring in these teams, different types of interviews were conducted. Dialogue meetings were held with healthcare staff who have worked alongside PSWs. A focus group interview was facilitated with PSWs. Individual interviews were conducted with the participants who did not have the opportunity to attend the dialogue meeting/focus group interview.

Analysis of the interview data showed that the PSWs’ professionality is characterized by equality. Analysis also illustrated how the care staff learnt from PSWs’ contributions and demonstrated that peer support skills can be used to promote IPL - even if this also was threatened by a hierarchy. This IPL across team members, the study suggests, can be supported continuously through new routines and a learning focus.
