Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Mental illness is a growing problem among adolescents in our society. The student health team and the school are working both preventively and acutely to try to better the situation for the affected students. In this study, the way the student health team and the school works with mental illness among students and their perspective on how well that work works will be examined. Six participants from different schools that work within the student health as well as teachers participated in separate interviews with a total of 12 questions considering mental illness, behavior among students, support at hand, problems at home and development. From a thematic analysis of these interviews five main themes were created that contained safety at school, strategies and preventative work, tools, problems, and development. The result presents a lot of focus around the importance of building trust and confidence with both students and guardians. In the discussion, the results are linked to previous research and parallels are drawn between school staff in different studies, similarities in thoughts concerning relationships and collaboration with organizationsoutside the school. Furthermore, development opportunities within the work with children with mental illness are discussed, such as resources.
