Search box vs Navigation menu on E-commerce webbsites : a study of navigation time when searching (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

In this degree project, the navigation time is studied when the search box is used compared to when the navigation menu is used on ecommerce sites and which factors that are significant for these navigation methods.

The study has been done with a quantitative survey where selected respondents had to search and browse to find given products or product types on selected websites within e-commerce.

The result shows that the majority of respondents preferred the search box over the navigation menu and the navigation time was an important factor for the choice of search method. The quantitative survey also provided an understanding of mental models, behavior on websites and Fitts´ law and how this can affect a user´s interaction with a website.
