Adoption of Virtual Reality : Identification of factors and social functions (English)
Abstract [en]

Virtual Reality is an emerging technology which offers immersive and exciting experiences.

This study investigates the different factors and social functions of virtual reality which affect the adoption of virtual reality. To identify these factors and social functions a qualitative study has been conducted where people knowledgeable and interested in virtual reality have been interviewed. The interviews have later been analysed and processed to identify themes and connections with prior research.

Factors that have been identified include attitude & approach, application area, comfort & physical environment, distractions, nausea, personality, price, psychological side effects, social influence, technical knowledge and accessibility & user-friendliness. Further, social functions that have been identified are customization possibilities, avatars and interaction possibilities.

These factors and social functions contribute to a better understanding of how people interact with VR and what makes people want to adopt the technology.
