The relationship between internal communication and informal learning (English)
Abstract [sv]
Bakgrund.
Totalt 106 respondenter deltog i studien.
Abstract [en]
Background.
Every single employee in an organization sees their personal work developmentas a key factor in working life, which can result in improved well-being and continuous learning. Scientific evidence shows that internal communication is one of the main factors for an organization’s development and success.
Purpose.
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between internal communication and informal learning among professionals.
Method.
We have used a quantitative method in form of an internet-based survey to analyze how these aspects correlate with each other. A total of 106 respondents participated in the study. The questions in the survey consist of two validated instruments: the Internal Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire (ICSQ) and the Learning Potential of the Workplace (LPW). Research on this relationship has been conducted before, however, we see both relevance and a need to further develop this research area with new perspectives and advancements.
Results.
The study’s results revealed a strong positive correlation between internal communication and informal learning after controlling for employment status, gender, age, highest level of education and working hours.
Conclusion.
The study’s conclusion indicates that clear internal communication in the workplace leads to higher levels of informal learning or vice versa. It also enhances the potential for effective internal communication, developed work relationships, knowledge transfer, organizational development, and reduced turnover within organizations where internal communication and informal learning are present and established.
