Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund.

Abstract [en]

Background.

The personality trait Honesty-Humility has garnered increased attention for its potential connection to job performance. Previous research has indicated that this personality trait may be related to both positive and negative work-related outcomes. Despite this, the relationship between Honesty-Humility and job performance remains a relatively unexplored area.

Materials and Methods.

A quantitative survey study was conducted to investigate the relationship between Honesty-Humility and work performance among professionals in Sweden. The questionnaire, which was modeled after two instruments, the HEXACO-60 and the IWPQ, was distributed via social media and directly to people interested in participating in the study. A total of 134 respondents participated. Data were analyzed using correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis, where staff responsibility was included as a control variable.

Results.

A strong positive correlation is found between Honesty-Humility and both task performance and contextual job performance. A negative correlation exists between Honesty-Humility and counterproductive work behavior. This implies that individuals with high levels of Honesty-Humility tend to perform better on their job tasks and contribute to the workplace’s social environment, while being less likely to engage in counterproductive behaviors.

Conclusion.

Honesty-Humility is a significant personality dimension for job performance and can potentially be used as a tool by organizations and employers to improve both individual performance and the overall work environment. Organizations may benefit from including this personality trait in their recruitment and development processes to promote an ethical and productive workplace.
