Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
Leadership is a consistently intriguing area within organizational research, and developmental leadership stands out specifically as a leadership model tailored to a Scandinavian context.
The study aims to investigate whether and how the personality traits of Swedish employees predict which facets within developmental and positive conventional leadership are perceived to be most important. To investigate the relationship between personality and the perceived importance of specific leadership attributes within developmental leadership, this study uses a quantitative method. Through a web survey involving 154 participants, personality and the perceived importance of various leadership attributes were examined using the Personality Item Pool Representation of the NEO PI-R 30 items (IPIP-NEO-30) and Developmental Leadership Questionnaire (DLQ) instruments. The collected data were analyzed through two rounds of multiple linear regression analyses, with and without control variables.
The results of this study showed that the personality trait of Agreeableness had the most positive correlations with the various leadership attributes within developmental leadership. Additionally, the personality traits of extraversion and conscientiousness each had weak associations with one of the leadership attributes. Surprisingly, the results also showed that gender had a clear association with several leadership attributes. Thus, the study demonstrates that there are some associations between employee personality and how important various leadership attributes are perceived to be.
