A qualitative study on female unit managers in relation to work and family life (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Being a female middle manager means a busy schedule with both work-related and private tasks. A dualism arises where working life, home and family life compete with each other.

Purpose: The aim is to study how female middle managers in public sector manage their role in relation to the business, family and family life.

Method: An interview study with a qualitative approach with six semi-structured interviews was conducted.

Result: The results show that several of the respondents found it challenging that the time was often not enough to be able to balance working life with family life and the parental role.

Conclusion: The most prominent experience surrounding family life was the feeling of inadequacy. Inadequacy could be identified in respondents who gave indications of perceived work-family-conflict (WFC).
