Abstract [en]

Shifting industry dynamics towards electric vehicle development increased the need for the development of lightweight bodies. This shift increased the use of aluminium usage as alight weight material alternative for automotive vehicles. Friction stir welding’s (FSW) is a robust solid-state joining technique. Compared to other fusion-based joining techniques, FSW ability to join materials well below their melting temperatures with filler materials is beneficial for the joint properties. Growing demand to join dissimilar materials formulated this work. The main part of this work is to study the effect of different welding process parameters, stationary shoulder too land different pin profiles over the joint strength. High-speed FSW of dissimilar extrudedaluminium alloys 6082-T6 and 6005A-T6 using stationary shoulder tool with two different pin profiles in lap configurations were produced and studied. Feasibility to weld extruded 6082-T6 with sand-cast AlSi10MnMg was studied.
