Abstract [en]

Active vehicle safety systems are becoming a standard in new cars and these systems are expected to protect us and make our driving experience easier but more importantly safer. To develop and test these safety systems external factors needs to be considered in the development process. These external factors are affecting more than just the development, they determine how the systems will affect the traffic as a whole.

The purpose of this thesis is primarily to study how Transportstyrelsen may reach its "Zero vision" goal with the help of active safety systems in cars. At the same time, we will examine how these systems function as well as identifying and examining some external factors that affect the development and functionality of these systems. The thesis is a qualitative study on how Transportstyrelsen may reach the "Zero vision" goal with the help of active vehicle safety systems and how external factors affect these. To answer the thesis´ two research questions six semi-structured interviews were carried out as well as reviewing previous literature and their research results.

The result proved how external factors are a major part of the development of the active traffic safety systems and as such a major factor when it comes to how Transportstyrelsen will reach its "Zero vision" goal.
