Abstract [en]

The dawn of the 21st century have seen the issues of gender inequality underscoring the relevance of women across the societies. The primary purpose of this study was to investigate whether the productivity of the companies varies based on the board diversification in Nordic region. The data was collected from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. Board diversification was classified into three categories: lower representation of women, representation of women at par, and higher representation of women. Productivity was captured using natural log of sales, sales per employee (SPW), and value added per employee (VAPW). T.test was used to determine the mean difference of the sample. The findings suggested that board diversification skewed towards women tends to have more productivity in terms of sales and lower productivity in terms of value addition for the Nordic sample. Accordingly, country specific analysis showed that Denmark and Norway companies exhibit higher productivity overall when board diversification is skewed towards women. Finland and Sweden exhibited that evenly diversified board tends to have higher productivity. This differences in the sample can be attributed to the corporate culture of each country and the professional experience of the women that they carry when performing as executives
