Abstract [en]

This study builds a market-focused resource-based view (RBV) framework on green product innovation (GPI) to examine the relationship between market responsiveness, GPI, product advantages, and new product performance, as well as the role of industry clockspeed. We adopt a partial least squares method to test these relationships using data from 325 Chinese manufacturing firms. The results show that market responsiveness positively affects GPI, and GPI can promote new product performance through enhancing product radicalness and meaningfulness. Besides, the mediating effect of product meaningfulness is stronger in high- than in low-clockspeed industries, while the mediating effect of product radicalness does not present a differentiated extent between high- and low-clockspeed industries. This study offers a market-focused RBV framework on GPI, illustrates the importance of responsiveness to market intelligence when implementing GPI, and highlights the necessity of investigating additional outcomes of GPI other than aggregated performance measures and comparing these effects among different industries.

Abstract [en]

Purpose

This study aims to review and synthesize longitudinal research on product innovation management and to develop a research agenda using a resource orchestration perspective. Given the absence of comprehensive reviews over the past decade, the study seeks to advance understanding of how innovation processes unfold over time and to identify underexplored areas in the literature, particularly regarding the role of resource structuring in enabling sustained product innovation.

Design/methodology/approach

A systematic literature review was conducted resulting in the inclusion of 219 longitudinal studies on product innovation management. Studies were selected based on predefined inclusion criteria, including a minimum time span of three years. The analysis combined methodological classification with a theory-driven coding approach based on the resource orchestration framework, examining how structuring, bundling and leveraging processes have been addressed in both qualitative and quantitative research.

Findings

The findings show that most longitudinal studies focus on aggregated innovation outcomes and emphasize resource bundling and leveraging, while resource structuring remains underexamined. In particular, the configuration and development of human resources are largely overlooked despite their importance for long-term innovation. The review also reveals limited integration of orchestration processes over time, highlighting a lack of holistic perspectives on how structuring, bundling and leveraging interact dynamically in innovation processes.

Originality/value

This study provides an updated systematic review of longitudinal product innovation management research and offers a resource orchestration-based research agenda. By identifying resource structuring – especially human resource configuration – as a critical but neglected area, the study extends current innovation research and offers a detailed, theory-driven agenda for future longitudinal studies.

Abstract [en]

Purpose: This study explains how managers in family-owned real estate firms achieve flexibility in orchestrating their resources under conditions of uncertainty.

Design/methodology/approach: This paper draws on a single-case design, utilizing 21 interviews with top managers and archival material from 18 Swedish family-owned real estate firms to capture how the phenomenon of resource orchestration (RO) unfolds under uncertainty.

Findings: The results reveal how the family phenomenon can be understood as a key driver of the family firm’s RO mechanisms, shaping the RO activities of its managers.

Originality/value: Three distinct RO configurations of family firm managers are identified: (1) flexible network structuring, (2) incremental flexibility and stakeholder-focused bundling and (3) cautious and societal flexible leveraging. These configurations explain how the family dimension enables the manager’s RO flexibility under conditions of uncertainty.

Abstract [en]

Considering the need for environmental sustainability and fulfillment of the needs of customers at the bottom of the pyramid, this study integrates the attention-based view of organizations and situational leadership theory to examine the impact of government eco-initiatives on frugal green innovation through managerial attention toward the environment in the presence of transformational leadership. Using a multisource (leader–subordinate) and time-lagged research design, data were collected from 229 large manufacturing firms located in major industrial centers of Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh, Makkah, Jeddah, and Jubail. The study's hypotheses were tested using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The empirical findings confirm the mediating role of managerial attention toward the environment in the relationship of government eco-initiatives with frugal green innovation. Nevertheless, they do not support the moderating effect of transformational leadership on the “managerial attention toward the environment–frugal green innovation” relationship. In addition, transformational leadership does not influence the mediating role of managerial attention toward the environment on the “government eco-initiatives–frugal green innovation” relationship. This study enriches the scant frugal green innovation literature. The authors also elaborate on the current empirical evidence in theory, research, and practice related to managerial attention and frugal innovation.

Abstract [en]

Even though, the human resource management literature has highlighted the importance of having employees that are committed to the organization, research on strategic human capital has yet to fully consider how commitment is related to human capital resources.

In order to overcome the dominant individual-level conceptualization of commitment and to detail how commitment affects human capital resources, we develop the unit-level concept of commitment capital, which we divide into three levels: affiliative commitment capital, affinitive commitment capital, and absolute commitment capital. These conceptualizations are based on a 10-year case study and incorporate commitment into a strategic human capital framework, thus bridging the current gap between organizational commitment and human capital resources.

Abstract [en]

Resource orchestration (RO) is a strategic management framework that details various processes by which how firms structure, bundle, and leverage resources. Thisstudy reviews how RO has been considered in environmental management research. The review highlights some limitations on how RO has been used in studies on environmental management, and it also illustrates a lack of knowledge accumulation inthe field. To realize the full potential of RO, the concept of green RO is developed.Green RO (GRO) is defined as a firm's capability to coordinate and manage the structuring of resources and the bundling and leveraging of capabilities to create economicvalue for the company while simultaneously creating environmental benefits. Threemain research areas for GRO are described: GRO as an organizational or managerialmeta-capability, management of specific GRO processes, and the synchronization ofseveral GRO processes.
