Transnationella relationer ur HVB-personalens perspektiv: Hur dessa inverkar på integrationsarbetet med ensamkommande barn2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of our study was to gain a deeper understanding of how first line directors within social services perceived their own work motivation and what they felt was the most important aspect when it comes to feeling motivated at work. We wanted to find out how they in turn motivate their employees, as well as how they experience their scope for action in relation to the current hierarchic chain of command and if this on its own affects their motivation. To fulfill our aim and answer the question we completed six semi structured interviews with first line directors in a municipality in western Sweden. We have through theory based thematic analysis and previous research about work motivation and first line directors scope for action analyzed the empirics.

The result showed that the sector directors felt that they gained most motivation in their work through validation from colleagues and employees, as well as from the fact that the work felt free and independent. Validation from higher directors and management was perceived as inadequate and even if it could contribute to discontent, it in itself had no larger impact on the motivation, which supports Herzbergs theory which states that it is the factors of motivation that contributes to work motivation and that the lack of hygienic factors can generate in discontent.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine how immigrant women perceive their social integration and participation in Swedish society and how their participation in club activities have affected this. We have made a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews. We chose to interview six immigrant women from different backgrounds and different lengths of stay in Sweden all participating in the same compound. To participate in this compound you have to be a woman over 18 years and the purpose with this compound is to strengthen both the women themselves and their societal participation. In order to get answers to our questions, we have used three different concepts; Social inclusion, integration and ethnicity as well as a gender perspective. We have also made use of previous research and facts to get a broader understanding of immigrant women. Our empirical basis we have taken through individual interviews, talks with President of the Association, and study visits on several occasions to get business insight.

The study concludes that there are various factors that affect the integration and social inclusion of migrant women, which is; language, residential area, gender and age. The study also shows that union participation is positive when it comes to strengthening social inclusion and integration.

Den strävsamma resan på längtans väg: En narrativ studie om unga vuxna som uppbär aktivitetsersättning på grund av nedsatt arbetsförmåga2017Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, CRPD, is the principle of accessibility in the physical, communicative and informative environment of society for people with disabilities. As a person with disabilities you should have the same opportunity to participate in all the different arenas of society. One of these arenas marks the labor market, where the Swedish political intention is a labor market open to all, regardless of their ability to function. One step in promoting entry into the labor market for young adults with disabilities is the Swedish Social Insurance Benefit Disability benefits due to reduced work capability. Evidence shows that young adults with disability benefits are an exposed social group with lower disposable income than the rest of the population, the risk of ill health and exclusion from the labor market, thus endangering life-long poverty.        The aim of the study is to illustrate and bring about the young adults' own voices about their experiences of living with disability benefits as main source of income. The method used is a narrative method with social constructionist ideals. Central concepts according to the purpose of the study are participation, agency and social recognition.  The results show that young adults experience different levels of participation in society, depending on the availability of social arenas such as economic conditions, employment and communicative and informative accessibility. The limited disposable economy leads to difficulties in living on equal terms and participate as equals in society.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

What are the factors that could influence an individual’s attitudes towards computers and

Internet? Our study tries to give some possible answers to this question. The aim of this

study was to see if there were any connections between the individual’s degree of usage

of computers/Internet and attitudes towards the same. Furthermore we wanted to examine

if there were any differences between men and women’s attitudes towards computers and

the Internet as well as if there were any differences in their degree of usage. We also

wanted to examine if there were any differences between individual’s from different

socio-economic backgrounds regarding their attitudes. The study included 270 members

of a non-governmental organisation. The results showed a connection between an

individual’s attitudes toward computers/Internet and degree of usage. We also found a

connection between socio-economic background and his or her attitudes toward

computers. We did not however find any differences between men and women’s attitudes

and degree of usage of computers and the Internet.

Människans suveränitet över andra arter: En studie om två miljöorganisationers resonemang angående förlusten av biologisk mångfald2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to exam how two environmental organizations reason about the loss of biodiversity. The research questions are; what is the view in these organizations regarding biodiversity? What are the underlying environmental discourses behind their reasoning, and how do they reason about the risks associated with the loss of biodiversity? As a first part of this thesis a thorough review of existing literature and online resources about the actions of environmental organizations was conducted. Two organizations were interviewed, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Naturskyddsforeningen. The questions for the study were analyzed in light of Dryzek´s (1997) reasoning about environmental discourses and using the concept of risk by Beck (1998). The results show that the environmental discourses reveal how organizations relate to the environment. WWF and Naturskyddsföreningen are working to change people's attitudes towards nature. The most dominant view in society is, however, that technology will solve environmental problems. Environmental organizations want's a structural change in the society, in regards to exploitation of natural resources rather than technical solutions, as they believe the problem is caused by people in general believe that they are superiority to nature. Furthermore, the results show how the organizations reason about the loss of biodiversity and the human role in this. The organizations want to prevent man's superiority of and sovereignty over nature by showing nature's intrinsic value, but they also want to highlight nature's benefits for human's to get more people engaged in environmental issues.

En skola för alla?: Kan vi vara unika tillsammans?2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate the teacher's attitude to the inclusion of students with special needs in the regular classroom. This study also seeks to determine if inclusion is affected by the individualistic thoughts prevailing in the school today and whether these two factors have any effects on the teaching and the school results of all pupils in the classroom.

To answer my purpose, I have used a qualitative method and interview five active teachers in the Swedish elementary school. This material was analysed using Thematic analyse methods. Relevant research and literature are also presented in this topic.

My theoretical perspective is the socio-culture perspective and to some extent the structural functionalist perspective.

In this survey I found that most teachers are positive about inclusion as a basic idea, but they also think that there are times when another form of teaching is still necessary. Inclusion without thoughts and without exception can in some cases lead to exclusion and to include pupils with special needs in the ordinary school without providing help from resource educators or special teachers, and without sometimes letting the students work outside the classroom when the situation so require can have consequences for the individual students learning ability but also for the other classmates both in the short and long term.

Professional learning by user involvement2019Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

It is usually said that professional knowledge consists of a knowledge base consisting of different resources. It can be knowledge acquired through education, following the rules, and laws that the practice consists of, through best practices and results from research, but also using user-related and situational knowledge. Social government (Socialstyrelsen) says that professional knowledge consists of a combination of evidence-based knowledge and local conditions and the wishes and beliefs of the user. My intention is to understand the practices that are shaped, how it affects the professional knowledge base and possibly also the organization of welfare work in relation to the user/user's wishes, experiences and needs. It is a case study where a municipal labor market policy measure for young people and young adults between 16-29 years who neither study nor work is at the center. The organization is located in a smaller city. About 10 professionals (social workers and pedagogies) work there and approximately 200 young people are involved every year. The young people involved in the organization are a heterogeneous group and they have contact with the activities in different ways. The organization has a one-way-in idea and has a "life-first" approach point of departure (unlike work-first approach) (Jacobsson, Hollertz & Garsten, 2017). The activities consist of both individual and group discussions, collaboration with other actors, partly, outreach work. The data material gadering for the study (which is ongoing) is both interviews and ethnographic methods to participate in everyday practice, both backstage (work-meetings) and frontstage (with the youth) work. Preliminary results are that the way of organizing work, the practices it creates affects how the professionals develop and use their knowledge. Through the organization as "one way in" and that several external actors are invited to weekly meetings, there is an increased understanding of each other's skills and organizations. It creates an internship where young people can navigate in the expectations and demands that actors, they come into contact with have young unemployed. But the various actors also get other information and opportunities for decision-making. The staff develops the purpose of the activity (to be a one way in, collaborate around young people, get young ones to come to and remain in activities) by developing forms of collaboration and relational work that can be said to create Educational Trust (Görlich and Katznelsons, 2015) in the relationship with young people. Questions that remain, are to more closely study what type of practices (Gherardi, 2012) are shaped when professionals (and the organization) use young people's experience and what knowledge professional develop

Marginaliserade aktörers inverkan på reglering och styrning av Internet : World Summit on the Information Society:s bidrag till nätets diskurs2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Since the Net's humble beginning, Internet regulation and governance has been characterized by a West-centric and techno-meritocratic discourse which, in many ways, has led to the exclusion of major parts of the world from active participation in building the Information Society. In the prevailing order the United States has a privileged position through its indirect control over the Internet‘s strategic resources, i.e. IP-addresses and "root" in the Domain Name System, via a contractual arrangement between the "Department of Commerce" and the organization "Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers" (ICANN). There was furthermore a latent conflict between the United States and Internet community, on the one hand, and the United Nations and its member states, on the other hand, in so far as that the institutional order rested on principles of U.S. civil law instead of international treaties, one of the foundations of the geopolitical system. Hence two conferences in Geneva 2003 and Tunis 2005, as two phases of the "World Summit on the Information Society" (WSIS), were organised by the U.N. to raise topics concerning an internationally legitimate regime for Internet governance and the unequal distribution of information- and communications technology (ICT) between rich industrialized nations and poor developing ones. The aim of this study is to investigate whether WSIS managed in its objective of providing marginalized players, primarily the U.N. system and developing nations, structural influence in Internet governance and adding dimensions of digital solidarity and internationalization to a discourse that historically has been dominated by the West, in particular the U.S. Through the prism of Michel Foucault's concepts of power, the final documents from the WSIS process are scrutinized for discursive shifts that could be indicative of actual changes in power structures to the advantage of marginalized players. Discursive shifts, as those detected in the documents, are primarily related to the notion of the "digital divide" and raising awareness for the need of development and foreign aid policies within the context of the "Discourse of the Net" (ICT for development). On the other hand, it would seem that the procedures of exclusion in the formation of discourse have eliminated important aspects of Internet regulation and governance. Subsequently, it can be inferred that powerful players have worked behind the scenes to maintain the current structures of Internet governance. In those passages, where the subject is explicitly mentioned, there are clear references to maintaining the existing status quo. The WSIS process failed consequently in its ambition to increase the influence of marginalized players in this regard.

Hur flickors och kvinnors liv påverkas av att leva med ADHD: En litteraturöversikt2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Background:

ADHD is a modern diagnosis and was first used in the 1980's. At first, ADHD was associated with active boys and the belief that as adults they should grew out of it. Today we know otherwise. People will not grow out of ADHD and girls can get the diagnoses as well. However, the existing diagnostic tools are adapted for boys. This makes the diagnosis of girls difficult to do because girls ADHD symptoms differ from the symptom of boys with ADHD. Due to this, wrong diagnosis of girls with ADHD is often done and as a result, Girls are not feeling well. It can even be so that they don't get a diagnosis at all.

    Aim:

The purpose of the study is to highlight girls' and women's experiences of living with ADHD. Method: A literature review based on eight articles was performed. Both qualitative and quantitative articles have been analyzed. Five themes were selected and presented in the results. Results: The importance of getting a diagnosis was significant to better handle problems that may occur in life. An ADHD diagnosis affected there self-image in a negative way. How other people approach and respond to an ADHD girl was crucial for how they saw themselves. ADHD led to a feeling of exclusion and also contributed to problems with relationships and difficulties to function in school and at work. Conclusion: Knowledge and information about the diagnosis was essential for how people with ADHD manage to cope with their life situation. Resources are a shortage in society today and there is a need to educate people in several areas. This is needed to create an understanding for the individuals and by doing so, decrease the risk of stigma. The understanding and knowledge will also create better conditions for girls and women with ADHD and contributes to their ability to better handle their problems as well as the feeling of having a good life.

    Learning integration-work through transnational digitalized courses2017In: INTED2017 Proceedings, 2017, p. 8018-8018Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In both political discussions and integration assessments questions are often raised about social services role in inclusion for people of foreign descent. Such questions are highly relevant in a contemporary society that is characterized by growing social and cultural differentiation. The overall aim of this presentation is to contribute to our understanding of how knowledge about integration work is developed by students who takes part in a webbased, transnational course where they use digital learning platforms for communication, coordination and organisation of learning activities. Analytically, such a focus is pursued employing a socio-cultural perspective on learning where practical actions and the design of the course have been scrutinized. The motive for introducing a webbased transnational course in the area of integration was that there were an increasing amount of refugees migrating to Europe. Integration became a part of everyday work for a lot of professions, teachers, nurses and more. However, working with integration was not something that their professional education supported but they all expressed a need for more knowledge. But integration workers are assumed to have specific knowledge that is necessary to realize their work tasks. In the work with creating an integration-course one conclusion was that all welfare work is generic, which means we cannot only look at the content of the work, instead one must put it into more multifaceted perspective that includes several professionals knowledge domains, service-organization assignment, legislations and cultures related. Simultaneously, another university had the same ideas, which resulted in a transnational webbased course with students from different professional fields. All students, as well as the teachers, where interviewed in the beginning and in the end of the course about their expectations about the content and the form. The results demonstrate that using learning platforms to make sense in transnational education settings presupposes extensive knowledge of the indexicality of categories and concepts, something that could be assumed if the participants' had a shared professional history. Instead, as the students have different backgrounds the teachers have to account for the local hermeneutics needed, and for the knowledge embedded in information and categories. It is in the process of reliving, creating and exposing the meaning of information, that students and teachers actually bring information in education to life. In further development of transnational webbased courses it is important to not see this development as solely technical or organizational questions. To develop courses that increase the possibilities for students in different faculties with different routines etc. to make sense of information may be a much more demanding task than it seems to be. Such boundary-crossing teaching are nevertheless of great importance for the development of integration work as well as pedagogical competence in higher education.

The cultural brokering power of social pedagogy in education for Roma students2019In: Nordic Social Work Research, ISSN 2156-857X, E-ISSN 2156-8588, Vol. 9, no 1, p. 5-17Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Throughout history, people have concerned themselves with how people can live and work together in an inclusive society that encourages cooperative and productive bonds. This question is highly relevant in contemporary society that is characterized by growing migration and social differentiation. One, maybe obvious, solution is to provide people the opportunity to participate in education, creating conditions for a more inclusive society. In that context, questions are often raised about the relation between education and integration of immigrants. Social pedagogy aims to combine educational and social interventions. This study takes place at a school for adult Roma students and the aim is to identify and explain social pedagogical strategies with respect to inclusion processes. The results show how theoretical foundations of social pedagogy works as a €˜facilitator€™ and guide the teachers’ actions. By taking cultural belonging into account, shed light on issues relating to learning processes as well as mobilization and inclusion.

Ett levande bevis på att detta fungerar: En kvalitativ studie om psykisk ohälsa och återhämtning2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to explore how sports journalism can include and/or exclude athletics from a national community. This study put emphasis on finding patterns from articles by Swedish sport media on non-ethnic Swedish athletics. The theories central to this study are ethnicity and nationalism, as these concepts contain reflections on why certain groups of people are excluded and/or included. Norman Faircloghs critical discourse analytical model has been selected for the study method that analyzes texts in three levels: the text level, discursive practice and social practice. Four non-ethnic Swedish athletes have been chosen to explore how they were portrayed in the media. Data were collected from Swedish newspapers, sport websites and blogs that portrayed the selected athletes. Discourses of media, nationalism and ethnicity emerged through a critical analysis of the data collection. The results of the study show that the selected athletes are included in to the Swedish national community through their achievements in their respective sport.

Sustainability challenges largely have to do with valuing past, present and future resources. History is full of examples of humans and societies that threat, react to changes in, and preserve resources they depend on. However, there is surprisingly little research on attitudal or behavioral reactions to decreasing or increasing resource levels in the fieldof environmental studies. This study aims to investigate the impact of individual experience-based subjective evaluations of different types of resources on environmental attitudes and behavior. The study is explorative since the relation between subjective resources and environmental attitudes and behavior to our knowledge has never been investigated. There are good reasons to expect both negative and positive correlations between perceived scarcity of resources and environmental behavior (partly depending on what resource we have in mind). The theoretical model is based on an understanding of environmental behavior as a collective action problem based in a social dilemma. The link between perceived scarcity of resources and environmental attitudes and behavior is investigated in a survey to the Swedish public (N = 978), which also controls for people's social value orientation (SVO), subjective well-being, and generalized trust and trust in environmental institutions, as well as income, age and gender.

    Abstract [en]

This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the individual's own experiences on the way out of the abuse. The study was conducted with a hermeneutic / phenomenological approach in which qualitative interviews were conducted with five people including 2 women and 3 men. The selection criteria were that they'd had a long been abuse, and taken out of it for at least two years. Age ranged between 30 and 70 years, although their current living situation was diverse. It was difficult to find research involving individuals' experiences of the Community in relation to the road of drug abuse, hence it is still a relatively unexplored area which made it all the more interesting to study. In this study is the individual's experiences in focus to get a deeper knowledge and understanding of the phenomenon. The result showed the way out of drug abuse may look and be perceived and how the community has been, and is, an important part of this process. The motivation to get out of drug abuse differed for the respondents. Several expressed the fellowship of other former addicts was important to them as a motivation in your own process. To maintain contact with the families and especially their children have also served as support and motivation. The results also showed that their life today works well even if they are still in the process to remain drug-free. Most interview participants are now living drug free and are motivated to continue their journey in life with experiences of abuse that led to and that many of them want to help others who are in the same process.

Brukarinflytande - en fråga om att bruka makt: En kvalitativ studie om brukarinflytande för personer med psykiska funktionsnedsättningar2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The present study aims to, through a critical age perspective, describe and illustrate the structural conditions of the age category of children based on the information about treatment for gambling problems provided by municipal websites. The study has a quantitative character and in order to answer the study's questions, a content analysis of municipal websites (N = 119) was conducted. 52,1% of those websites contained information on treatment for gambling problems (n = 62). The result showed a statistically significant difference in the distribution regarding information by municipal websites on treatment for gambling problems ( χ² = 9,478a , df = 2, p = ,009) and treatment methods ( χ² = 13,400a , df =2, p = ,001) between the structural age categories. Throughout, age as an organizing principle was updated, and the age category of children was directed to information about treatment for gambling problems through municipal websites to a considerably lower extent than other age categories. This brought to light an age hierarchy and from a children perspective it is possible to state that children's structural conditions were unequal. When this was consistent, it is reasonable to assume that there is systematic inequality, which raises social stratification.

The problem-presentation in integration work: Construction of information needs for newly arrived immigrants2016In: 44th NERA Congress is ‘Social Justice, Equality and Solidarity in Education?, 2016Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Today people migrate and leave societies that cannot secure human life and safety, where one's worth as a human is being violated. People are fleeing not only from, but also to places. When arriving to a new society it needs to be described, to make it possible to meet it and act in it. In dialogue and interaction with groups, society therefor must find and describe models for inclusion. In Sweden, as residence permits are obtained, so called ‘integration workers’ are engaged in Civic Orientation, to support the process by means of which individuals are to become knowledgeable enough to exert their agency as citizens (knowing your rights and obligations).

The overall object is to create linkages between the state and the ‘newly arrived immigrants’. Civic orientation is a course for 60 h, regulated by Swedish law and EU has given directions that every member state is supposed to have some form of civic education, but every country is responsible for organizing and develop their own content. Often, in Sweden, the integration workers themselves have immigrated to Sweden and the course is given in the mother tongue of the immigrants.

This study is a workplace study with interest in professional knowledge to create stable and flexible knowledge in the work, understood as how the workers construct relevance for their doings in interaction. In this study the specific interest is to understand the construction of newcomers' information needs, the problem being worked with. The need of information is understood as not given or static, but as a (re)produced in regular social practices (Edwards, 2005), and both integrationworkers and newcomers mutually orient to a set of ideas when constructing needs. The analytical interest is also to outline how some views is made more significant or more authoritative with respect to the matter at hand (Heritage and Raymond, 2005).

In reasoning about needs, the access to countries, as epistemic domains is often used to make claims about what kind of information that is needed. In other words, the country that the immigrants comes from is often arranged to be the source of knowledge. The data material was generated through video recordings and interviews over a period of 1.5 years, from backstage (workmeetings) and frontstage work (with ‘newly arrived immigrants’). I identify two patterns that are analytically distinctive when looking at how the problem- presentation in civic orientation is negotiated. Either is it the knowledge about the Swedish society that is the matter at hand, or is it to educate those who have not yet come to a certain ´understanding´. This are two very different worktasks, but they seems to be connected in the practice.

    Abstract [en]

Societal efforts to support the integration of newly arrived immigrants have been repeatedly highlighted in the political debate in Sweden and they are described as inadequate and ineffective. Demands have been made for improvements and one of the designated efforts is Civic Orientation (CO). The Civic Orientation programme is a course about Swedish society, targeting newly arrived refugees and their relatives who have received a residence permit. It provides basic information about Swedish society to aid and expedite integration (SFS 2010:1138). The criticism has led to the production of written, national instructions containing correct information that should be provided by the civil servants in CO. The aim is that quality should be high and equal across the country. The overall aim of the dissertation is to deepen the understanding and knowledge of the work-process to develop standard guidelines, that will be used in a welfare sector, where it is difficult to establish definitive knowledge. The dissertation's purpose is also to deepen the understanding and knowledge of instruction work as a collaborative activity. The term 'instruction work' covers both work that experts and managers undertake when they develop written guidelines, and work done when implementing these guidelines in local practice. The thesis is rooted in activity theory where work is viewed as a collaborative activity aimed at taking on a task, event or object, such as interpreting, paying attention, participating, thinking, and performing. The study involves five different categories of actors: a representative from the county administrative board, experts from various authorities and universities, coordinators and the head of a unit from a management group in a municipality, and integration workers, who are the local civil servants. The study is based on a field study where video recorded observations of meetings, lectures and workshops have been conducted. Semi structured interviews and written communication have also been used. The result shows that there are different perceptions of what work needs to be done to ensure that the instructions are correct. A variety of, sometimes contradictory, tasks developed: to make the information scientifically correct with multiple perspectives on social phenomena, to make educational simplification, to provide an ideal image of Sweden according to policy, or to describe Swedish society as irrational with hinders and obstacles (papers 1- 3). Another major task was to make the instructions politically neutral which meant producing information that was not offensive for external readers such as politicians and the general public (paper 1). When guideline models have been used for other welfare activities, the work is usually based on analysis of the needs of the target groups. That task took on an obscured role and was first noticed as important by the civil servants in the latter part when the material was used during implementation (papers 1, 3). A further result concerns the work of developing standard guidelines. The study shows that there is formal instruction work (paper 1) which is the planned work, most often done by experts and/or researchers, and informal instruction work (paper 2) often hidden and performed by civil servants in the implementation phase. This informal work is about transforming the instructions to be useful for the individual in the local situation. But the study also shows a third type of work - semi-formal instruction work (paper 3) that is also carried out by the local civil servants, where they, with their biographical and informal instruction work experience, try hard to influence formal instruction work. One conclusion is that it is more fruitful and accurate to perceive standardized instructions as dynamic and integrated in the practical work, than to see them as fixed by an externally controlled process. Developing standards to be used to improve practice is an ongoing fluid process that never ends, and that involves tensions and conflicts that need to be addressed.

Att rädda sitt liv istället för att ta livet av sig: en studie kring ungdomar och självskadebeteende2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of how the treatment staffexperience and handles the work with girls who self-injure . In order to answer thesequestions we interviewed six people working at two different institutions where theyworked with girls who self-injure.

In this study, in summary, we see that it evokes many strong emotions in those who workwith these girls. We saw treatment staff expressing the need for support in their work tokeep work enjoyable but also to create an understanding of the girl's behavior.Treatment staff uses clear protocol dealing with a girl who is injured. The protocol arepartly for the other girls who live in the same housing so that there will not be a contagioneffect and partly for the individual girl who does not get the attention which otherwisewould reinforce the behavior. We also see that the treatment staff needs support in their work to maintain a goodtreatment for girls.

Our conclusion is that the staff group is the most important asset the treatment staff feelthat they have at work. Education is one of the important ways through which thetreatment staff maintain their enthusiasm to their work. Belonging to a cohesive workgroup provides staff with a feeling of security at their job place. Within a work group thereare also opportunities to reflect on difficult events. This allows the possibility to processwhat they experienced. Treatment personnel can despite an established approach feelambivalence in their work.

Who Cares and Who Pays?: The Stakeholders of Maritime Human Factors2009In: Human Factors in Ship Design & Operation: London, September 25-26, 2009, London: Royal Institute of Naval Architects , 2009, p. 69-76Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This paper aims at identifying the key stakeholders in maritime human factors and analyse their interest in, and power to influence the human factors issues. A stakeholder analysis is done and a model displays eight stakeholders from a vessel lifecycle perspective. It is concluded that the interest and the power to influence is much differentiated, largely due to the nature of shipping. An increased public interest in environmental, economic and socio-political sustainability has affected the environmental work in the industry and it is believed that pressure from consumers will lead to increased demands on shipping. It is further concluded that well operated shipping contribute to greater overall efficiency and economy and should offset higher unit freight costs resulting by the use of better maintained and managed ships.
