    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is identify aspects of  young peoples’ in Western Sweden dream jobs looks and which describe the factors that respondents think will affect their ability to reach these dream jobs. This is a qualitative study, using information from five focus groups, involving 22 students. This study identified the various factors that youths in the third year in high school think are important when they think about their future employment. The young people described in this study are faced with decisions regarding education and employment that will have consequences throughout their lives. This study’s results show that the young participants described here value the feeling of enjoying the social aspects of work as most important, along with a good salary. Respondents want to earn enough to afford to do what they like to do, and say that their spare time and family are highly valued. The descriptions of dream jobs vary widely, including personnel manager, psychologist, hairdresser and construction engineer. In order to obtain their dream jobs, most respondents believe that they need additional education. Some of the respondents feel that a break from studying can prevent them from reaching their dream jobs, as they feel that employment would be a hindrance to returning to school. On the other hand some of the respondents felt that a break between gymnasium and higher education might be a good idea, as they are not able to identify their dream job yet. Most respondents set high priorities on finding work that fits their own personalities and making sure that their work was meaningful for them.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine the adolescents opinion of how violations in social media might look like and to study if there is something that distinguishes it from violations face to face. As the technological development create new conditions for social interaction, the people who are working to prevent violations and bullying are faced with new challenges. Therefore, the study is also focused on how schools can work with these violations. According to a report from BRIS “Children’s Right s In Society” they receive an increasing number of calls every year about bullying or other forms of violent behaviour. This points to that this is an important problem that needs to be studied closer. The study is made based on a qualitative approach in the form of semi-structured interviews. The adolescents were interviewed in focus groups of four persons in one group and two in another. Two school counselors have been interviewed individually. The theoretical approach of the study was symbolic interactionism and Erving Goffman's dramaturgical sociology. The research that is available is primarily focused on bullying and the knowledge that exists today can not always be directly transferable to what is happening on the internet. Several studies have shown that there are some fundamental differences between the violations occurring on the internet compared to other violations, even if consequences like anxiety and stress usually are the same. This study’s results show that the adolescents notices that it is often a rougher language on the internet and it has almost become a new standard. In turn this means that it is more acceptable to give mean comments. It also indicated that the adolescents would want the schools to raise the question about violations in social medias more than what is being done today

    Abstract [en]

    Background

Every year a lot of people flee from their homes because of war and persecution. Many remain in the region, while some few go to Europe to seek asylum and even fewer comes to Sweden. Some of these people are children, under 18 years old who come unaccompanied without any parent or other legal guardian. This study will be about some of these children.

    Purpose

The purpose of the study is to examine unaccompanied minors experiences of the migration process, with focus on the flight from their home country and the meeting with Sweden. The aim together with previous research led me towards two questions about children's fear and anxiety together with motivation to learn and develop during the chosen period. I hope that these children's stories will help social workers to meet, understand and support people who have gone through similar situations.

    Method

I have used a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews to emphasize the unaccompanied children's stories about their experiences of leaving their country and coming to Sweden. The theoretical grounds that I've used is system-and network theories and sociocultural theory at learning. The collected data has been coded, categorized, thematized and analysed based on the aforementioned theories and previous research.

    Results

The results show that the flight from home mostly is a difficult time for a child and feelings of fear, anxiety, insecurity and uncertainty are common during this time. Several describe the feeling of death as not far away and an exposure where one can't control one's own future. Some experienced a difficulty to establish contact with the majority population and a feeling about not fitting in in the society. To break up and leave one's home and to start over at a new place also involves changes in one's social network. Many unaccompanied minors describe a feeling of loneliness and that most of their important relations in their new social network consist of teachers in school and personnel where they are living. Finally the results also show a strength and fighting spirit among the children, that all they've been through made them stronger!

    Abstract [sv]

Existential social work and the quest for existential meaning and well-being: A conceptual framework2018In: Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Social Work, ISSN 1542-6432, Vol. 37, no 1, p. 64-76Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this article is to conceptualize "existential social work." A greater understanding of what existential social work means may enable social workers and those studying social work to see how its practice can reveal "the truth" about human existence and how they, as professionals, can enhance existential meaning and existential well-being among their clients. In such work, existential social workers have at their disposal tools such as the Frankl therapeutic approach to existential analysis (i.e., logotherapy) as well as spiritual-sensitive modalities (prayer and mindfulness). To interpret and understand apparent phenomena in the therapy is the ultimate goal with existential social work practices, thus providing clients with the opportunity to discover the meaning that exists in themselves. In addition, these practices pave the way for existential well-being. © 2017 Taylor & Francis

    Abstract [en]

The aim of our studie is to examine womens experiences of recieving a diagnosis of AD/HD as an adult and what social consequences this brings. As many studies focus on AD/HD from a neuropsychiatric perspective, we regard it interesting to look at it from a social perspective rather then psychiatric. The theory we mainly used is social constructionism as we think it relevant in this coherece. In the study we examine if and in that case how these women feel that the diagnosis has changed there everyday life, treatment by authority and colleagues, self-esteem/self-perception and relation to friends and close relatives. To make this possible we worded four questions at issue that was suitable for the purpose of the study. In the study we used qualitative research interviews whit four women, this as to bring forward there experiences in the best possible way. The result we found show that diagnosis has had great importance for the women as it has made them more aware of there scarcity and as a liberating explanation of there feeling of being different. To be able to analyze the text we used the theme as shaped from the questions to be able to find a pattern in the womens story. We then interpreted the material with the help of prior and relevant theories. Our conclusion is that the diagnosis strengthens the womens self-esteem/self-perception which means that they can handle there everyday life in a better way, but also that the diagnosis in it self does not change the real lack in extent any greater.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate the illiterate adult immigrant's experiences of literacy and the opportunities them self-feel have to be integrated into Swedish work life. Through qualitative interviews with ten participants on literacy course in adult schools at the one of Sweden's medium great city, I have deepened my understanding of how these people are experiencing literacy, what it has contributed to in their everyday lives and what opportunities they think have in the labour market. As a theoretical starting point, I have chosen social constructivism. The results of the qualitative study showed that all respondents have a positive attitude toward literacy, since they realize that they must be able to read, write and speak Swedish to live as independent and self-sustaining adults. It also turns out that other factors in society slows their language development and in terms of their ability to get a job, they are more sceptical. My picture of the participants is that they have strong desire to integrate into the Swedish society. However, they lack strategies to make progress in the integration process, in addition, themselves or by other acquaintances feeling that they have no place in the labour market, but only at school or being on internship.

Gemenskap i exkludering, en kvantitativ studie bland ungdomar i utsatta områden: Psykologisk känsla av gemenskap samt exkluderande mekanismer2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Deltagare: Fem skolkuratorer deltog i studien.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to find, understand and discuss the experiences of former employees at SAAB, and present how this can be understood according to my core theoretical concepts, which are participation and identity. The questions asked in the study are based on how the labor is described, characterized and what comes forth as valuable, which is compared to absence of labor work.

First, labor is described in an historical and social context, and at the same time related to the core theoretical concept. Second, the methodology chapter is presented, which mainly consists of 11 observations and 10 interviews. Third, the chapter regarding former theory leads to an analysis model, which is used on the empirical material of the study.

The result shows that labor work at SAAB primarily is described as important for socializing, security and the possibility to be independent. The tasks at SAAB are described as backbreaking and monotonous, while the lack of labor work influences the physical and mental wellbeing. Unemployment also contributes to limitations in everyday life, and in addition, creates negative feelings and experiences due to lack of control in a new and changed world.

In summary, the empirical and theoretical analysis taken together leads to the conclusion that labor work at SAAB is substantially described as positive, but there are however, parts which are less positive. Another conclusion is that lack of labor work primarily can be described as negative, but the opposite is also discernible. A third conclusion is that labor work is important for the understanding of participation and identity.

When using the theoretical analysis model on the results given in the empirical material, three participation- and identity patterns can be found. These are then contextual and temporal, due to time and situation; the stabile and secure pattern, the loose and temporary pattern and the compensating and regenerative pattern.

At the end of the essay there is an overall and concluding discussion regarding the findings in relation to context and society and which significance this may have on social pedagogy and its practice. Finally there is a brief section with reflections regarding the conducted study and perspectives on research to come.

Tre vanliga grabbar: En studie om platsens betydelse för delaktighet och identitet2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the places importance for young people with disabilities. The study’s central questions are what type of places they visit and what characterizes them. It is also about answering the questions why the places are visited and what meaning this has for participation and identity. The study´s central concept is room/place, participation and identity. Knowledge review will be based on the key concepts. The collection of the empirical material has been inspired by the ethnographic methodology, which in this study included seven observation sessions and six interviews.

The result shows that the boys mainly visited two different places. This is about the publicand non-public places. Public places can be described as a place for everyone and the nonpubliconly for people with disabilities. The boys show more participation towards publicplaces which can provide activities, fellowship and well-being. Both places can offer participation, but are dependent on other factors, which in this case is about activities and visitors. None of the places shows identity, but rather the interaction between the individual and the environment. Participation doesn’t necessarily show the personal identity. In the lastchapter the importance is highlighted through a perspective of social work activity. First andforemost the public places potential is highlighted and it´s limitations for participation and theidentity process. Individualism och egoism i frivilligt socialt arbete: en kvalitativ studie om vad som motiverar människor till att engagera sig i frivilligt socialt arbete2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The study aims to increase understanding of the foster parents descriptions of the support they are offered in their mission to be foster homes. The thesis is based on empirical studies. Qualitative interviews were conducted with nine foster parents in six foster homes about their experiences of the support they receive from social services in their mission as a foster home. The opportunities and barriers in the support foster parents are offered by the social services in theirs duties as a foster home, are also studied. The interviews were conducted using an interview guide, with predetermined themes and issues. All interviews were transcribed and analyzed according to sense concentrated analysis.

The present study is inspired by a hermeneutic science theoretical approach, as it is seen as suitable for use in studies aimed at gaining access to informants' own experiences of phenomena and issues. Based on the study's purpose and issues, has a system theoretical approach been selected.

The results of the study show that the foster parents generally feel good support from social services in their assignment. Most part of the foster parents wished more support from social services in the beginning of a placement when the need is greatest. Several foster parents describe difficulties with getting in touch with their social worker. The initiative to contact is usual taken by the foster parents. Regarding the support of social contact with the placed child's biological family foster parents responded differently. Some of the foster parents feel they receive adequate support. Other foster parents describe various factors that influence and sometimes complicates this contact. In addition to contact with social services, the foster parents feel that their own social networks, such as biological children, relatives and friends, are a good support in the mission

"Glöm inte bort mig, jag är också viktig": -En studie om de biologiska barnen i familjehem2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Foster home placement is what the social service prefers over institutions because their wish is that the child will grow up in a home environment as similar to their home. The children and teenagers that are placed in foster homes may sometimes have experiences hard times before been placed, they most often come from a home where their needs have not been for filled in a way a child needs and this may have occurred for a long period of time. The biological children may learn in an early stage the difficulties people can get involved in and they may feel overwhelmed by taking part of the foster siblings experiences. The families who take care of these children may experience a challenge and they may need guidance and support to face the children's needs. Research shows that breakdown in the foster homes often depends on conflicts and the problems that emerges between the biological children and the children that are placed in the family. The purposes with this study is to describe and analyse how it is as a biological child to grow up in a home that is a foster home and to discuss this from a child's needs over a safe environment. The study has a qualitative approach and the data is founded by five semi structure and transcribed interviews. The persons has been chosen based on three criterions; that they no longer live at home, that they haven't grown up in a on call family home or in families that has been their support family or have had relatives living with them.

When analysing the results I choose to use the attachment theory and the ecological systems theory of development. Through the attachment theory the biological children's relationships were studied to see how they were affected by the fact that the family being a foster home. With the ecological systems theory of development the biological children were studied to see how the different systems were affected by the family taking care of another child. The result shows that most of the respondents were positive to growing up with foster siblings. They feel among others that they learn early on about societies social problems, that not everyone had the same save environment as themselves and that you should grateful for what you had. At the same time growing up with foster siblings was challenging because the foster siblings took time and energy from the parents and could contribute to conflicts in the home. The results shows that a good contact with social service is important and that the social service should take time for the biological children and take notice of them and make them a part of the decision to become a foster home and also during the emplacement of a child in the family.

    Abstract [en]

The field of study is elderly home care recipient who live alone, where a study was made in how these recipients are influenced by the so-called perceived loneliness. The theoretical frameworks used in this study are social gerontology and gerotranscendence since the terminology used in the study occur in both theories, as well as we connect the theories to a social pedagogical perspective. The intention is to find a bridge between the mentioned theories. The aim of the study is to reveal and analyze loneliness as a social phenomenon for elderly recipient of home care in relation to social identity and various social ties. The first issue which the study tries to answer is how the elderly perceive to be home care recipient and a second issue is which social ties become visible and how does that affect the home care recipient´s feeling of loneliness. The final issue is how the home care recipient´s feeling of loneliness can be understood by social identity.

The study has been done qualitatively with four semi-structured life-world interviews. The examined persons in the study were chosen by the criterion of that the persons should live alone and have daily home care. A second criterion was that they should be able to express themselves verbally. By the three terminologies of the study such as loneliness, social identity and social ties, an initial analysis is made of the empirical data. Furthermore, a second analysis is made with the gerotranscendence´s dimensions and its signification. The result shows that the elderly appreciate their visits by the home care staff and that it affects their perceived feeling of loneliness. The result also shows a relation between loneliness, social identity and social ties. The analysis of the empirical data by the gerotranscendence shows a positive perceived loneliness and not only negative loneliness.

Den verksamhetsförlagda utbildningens effekter.: En kvantitativ studie om den verksamhetsförlagda utbildningens påverkan på socialarbetarstudenternas KASAM, stress och coping2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The crisis of the 1990s hit Sweden hard and one of the groups described as the losing group of the crise are young adults. Young adults situation in the labor market has since described as severe in the form of high unemployment, low employment rate and the average age of labour market entry has been raised. One in ten young adults were in 2016 without employment. In order to capture this group labour market policy measures have developed in something called "Jobbgarantin för ungdomar " with the aim of helping young adults to work or study. Due to the fact that many young people are outside the labour market and the community that work means, we think this is an area for us to study because the purpose of social pedagogy is very much about helping individuals back into the community.

The aim of our study is to investigate young people's experiences of unemployment and of participating in a labour market initiative. The study is based on six young people who participate in an operation called Ungdomssatsningen into a medium-sized Swedish municipality. We start from the theory of sense of coherence, SOC, and the concepts of individualization and social capital focused on social contacts. We want to study if and if so, how the initiative could give support to create SOC and thus promote health, and if so how individualization and social contacts are made visible in the young people's descriptions. As we wanted to get a deeper and multifaceted understanding of young people's experiences, we felt that the qualitative method was the method that was most suited. As data collection method we used semi-structured interviews as they give informants a large space to develop their answers and the interviewer to develop follow-up questions tailored to them.

What emerged in our study is that the current labour market initiative effort certainly contributes to sense of coherence but because of its lack of personalization it doesn´t contribute to the same degree of manageability, comprehensibility and meaningfulness of all young people involved in it. It is clear that young people have been affected of the community developement who is charactarized by individualization when they embraced the view that unemployment is due to individual factors. In contrast, our results show that young people do not in the same extent as the research shows believe that social capital in the form of social contact is essential to getting a job.

Perceptions of Mental Illness among Somali Immigrants in Uddevalla and the Challenges faced by Welfare Workers when addressing Mental Illness to Somali Immigrants2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis was to explore Somali immigrants' perceptions of mental health and address the challenges that welfare workers encounter with Somali immigrants. For any immigrant, accessing mental health care and other social services in the host country is an important component in achieving a successful integration. However, immigrants are less likely to access medical and social services than other born citizens. For Somali immigrants living in Sweden concepts of mental illness may not be recognised, understood or treated in the same way across non-Western cultures. This study is based on primary and secondary research in Uddevalla municipality as a part of an ongoing project called Integration Of Health Promotion & Public Health Equality In Uddevalla. The data derive from four individual interviews with Somali immigrants living in Uddevalla and two individual interviews with welfare workers. The results highlighted the importance of the following aspects:

    (a) the concept of mental illness was found to be unfamiliar to the participants whereby mental illness is highly associated with craziness.

    (b) views of mental illness had a divided opinion among informants: some believed stress can trigger mental illness, while others believed illness comes from God whereby religion was seen as important when maintaining health and wellbeing

    (c) stigma is associated with mental illness in Somali communities, and due to fear of being labelled it has resulted in a lack of seeking help, and acceptance of mental illness is likely to be delayed by Somali immigrants.

    (d) for welfare workers reaching out to Somali immigrants it is a challenge as well as addressing about mental illness to Somali immigrants.

    Abstract [en]

The background to the study is to understand the importance of the sense of belonging is for young people, and how leisure activities can constitute a social arena that promotes social inclusion of adolescents. I want to gain knowledge of the recreation center and if it can be an accepting environment where more young people can feel solidarity. And also what the recreationleader and their interaction with other actors can manage in the process of getting more young people to feel involved. The purpose of the study is to describe and analyze the significance of the recreation centers have to promote social inclusion and work against social exclusion among young people. I have made an ethnographic study in which I used a combination of interviews and participant observations at a recreation center in a small town, in order to capture characterizations that would demonstrate leisure's importance as a transitional arena. With the help of a socio-cultural perspective, and Erving Goffman's dramaturgy I have explained the concept of participation and, together with the study's empirical data and previous research evolved into an analysis and result.

The result of the study shows that the recreation center has a chance to be an arena for social inclusion, but they need to have a specific structure and contents in order to benefit young people. Furthermore, on the importance of leadership is in work with young people, the relationship between them is the main factors for youth to feel social inclusion. Cooperation between the recreationleader and other actors who works with young people can together help more adolscents, by a holistic perspective on the adolscents everydaylife.

    Abstract [en]

In today's Sweden there is a lot of reasons why a great number of pupils are staying home from school. The main purpose of this paper is to highlight the problems with absent students from the workers point of view even if the reason is either truancy or school refusing. The study shows both the differences and similarities of the causes, consequences and actions against these students.

This was executed through qualitative interviews with educators who have contact with these kinds of students. The informants belong to the world of school and they cover both the elementary school and high school. Empirical data collection was interpreted with a narrative method and got analysed and anchored with the help of systems-theoretical perspective and past researches of this topic.

The results present that teachers and the study counsellor generally have the same view of the problematic of absent students. They refer to the pupil's relationship to friends, teachers and other resources at school and state that these can be a great cause to the student's absence.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to develop knowledge of how the professional staff works with unaccompanied asylum seeking children and by the empowerment perspective work to allow the children's participation, inclusion and integration into society. Furthermore, the study aims also to highlight how the residential staff at HVB-homes themselves regards this work. The issues highlighted are: What in the work approach creates opportunities for unaccompanied children's participation in society, according to residential staff at HVB-homes? Is there differences between residential staff at HVB-homes on what one thinks about working with participative work? If so, can these differences be explained by gender, age, education, experience, etc. in working with unaccompanied minors? Methods used in the study have a quantitative and a qualitative approach and includes a survey and three interviews conducted with residential staff at HVB-homes in Kalmar County. The result is interpreted by the empowerment perspective and explained by means of the concepts of participation, inclusion and integration. The analysis of the study is based on our concepts, previous research and theory and are interpreted using graphs constructed in SPSS software and interpretation of the three interviews. The result of the studie show us that residential staff have a respectful attitude in their approach to the unaccompanied children. The study illustrates the residential staffs sensitivity to children's views, the importance of being consistent, affirmative and to possess the ability to see in a comprehensive view. The results also show that security and trust are important features of the residential staff attitudes that creates potential for the children participate in different contexts, which contributes to social inclusion and simultaneously increased acceptance and integration into society. The result of the study illustrates that there are no significant differences between staff in what one believes about working with participative work. Our conclusion is that residential staff in Kalmar County has a positive approach that creates opportunities for the unaccompanied children's participation and inclusion in communities that lead to integration into society.

Säkerhet och arbete på passagerarfärjor ur intendenturpersonalens perspektiv2017In: Arbetsmarknad & Arbetsliv, ISSN 1400-9692, Vol. 23, no 2, p. 27-46Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Due to fatal accidents in the last three decades the safety of passenger ferries has been of central concern for ship owners and regulating authorities. New technology, regulations and education to improve the construction of ships and the capability of the crews to act in critical situations have been implemented. In this report we focus how one special category of personnel, the service staff, is integrated in the safety organisation and culture on board passenger ferries. We do this by study in gresearch literature and a variety of documents issued by regulating authorities on the subject. An internet-based discussion among seafarers about who is considered to be a "real seafarer" is also analysed. Another topic discussed in the report is the everyday working conditions for the servicestaff and its impact on their health. By analysing statistical data it is shown that work-related accidents and sickness are far more common among this category compared to other seafarers. The main conclusion in the report is that research on and interest in the role of the service staff in the safety organisation and culture of passenger ferries is underdeveloped and weak. Traditional strong hierarchies among seafarers and seafarers' and other relevant actors' views on who is considered tobe a "real seafarer" may to some extent explain this situation. More research and more efforts to integrate this category in the concrete work to improve safety are therefore needed.

Empathy and universal values explicated by the empathy-altruism hypothesis2016In: Journal of Social Psychology, ISSN 0022-4545, E-ISSN 1940-1183, Vol. 156, no 6, p. 610-619Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Research reports that empathy is on the decline in present-day society, together with an increasing trend in self-enhancing values. Based on the empathy-altruism hypothesis, we investigated whether these constructs are interlinked by analyzing the relationships between emotional and cognitive empathy and 10 universal values. In the first study, using a middle-aged U.S. sample, the results showed that empathy was strongly and positively related to altruistic values and negatively to self-enhancing values in a pattern that aligned with the empathy-altruism hypothesis. In a second confirmation study, these findings were replicated and extended, while also controlling for the Big Five personality traits, to discount that empathy is only captured by basic personality. Only emotional empathy, not cognitive empathy, accounted for up to 18% additional variance in altruistic values, which further confirmed the emphasis on feelings, as postulated by the empathy-altruism hypothesis.

The Single Item Dirty Dark Triad (SIDDT): Exploitation of Others2016In: Association for Psychological Science (APS) 28th Annual ConventionMay 26 - 29, 2016, Chicago, Illinois, 2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

A short measure of the Dark Triad (Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism) showed consistent factorstructure and convergent validity. Narcissism, however, didn’t contribute with information to the coreconstitution of the Dark Triad. Instead, a Single Item Dirty Dark Triad (SIDDT: exploitation of others),accounted for the core of the measure.

    Supporting summary

Background: The dark side of human character has been conceptualized in the Dark Triad Model:Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism. These three dark traits are often measured using single longinstruments for each one of the traits. Nevertheless, there is a necessity of short and valid personality measuresin psychological research. As an independent research group, we replicated the factor structure, convergentvalidity and item response for one of the most recent and widely used short measures to operationalize thesemalevolent traits, namely, the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen. We aimed to expand the understanding of what the DirtyDozen really captures because the mixed results on construct validity in previous research.

Method: We used the largest sample to date to respond to the Dirty Dozen (N = 3,698). We firstly investigatedthe Dirty Dozen’s factor structure using Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Secondly, using sub-sample (n = 500)and correlation analyses, we investigated the Dirty Dozen dark traits convergent validity to Machiavellianismmeasured by the Mach-IV, psychopathy measured by Eysenck’s Personality Questionnaire Revised, narcissismsusing the Narcissism Personality Inventory, and both neuroticism and extraversion from the Eysenck’squestionnaire. Finally, besides these Classic Test Theory analyses, we analyzed the responses for each DirtyDozen item using Item Response Theory (IRT).

Results: The results confirmed previous findings of a bi-factor model fit: one latent core dark trait, plus thethree dark traits. An additional exploratory distribution analysis showed that all three Dirty Dozen traits had astriking bi-modal distribution, which might indicate unconcealed social undesirability with the items. The threeDirty Dozen traits did converge to, although not strongly, with the contiguous single Dark Triad scales (rbetween .41-.49). The probabilities of filling out steps on the Dirty Dozen narcissism-items were much higherthan on the Dirty Dozen items for Machiavellianism and psychopathy. Overall, the Dirty Dozen instrumentdelivered the most predictive value with persons with average and high Dark Triad traits (Theta > -0.5).Moreover, the Dirty Dozen scale was better conceptualized as measured of a combined Machiavellianismpsychopathyfactor, not narcissism, that can be replaced with item 4: ‘I tend to exploit others towards my ownend’.

Conclusion: The Dirty Dozen showed a consistent factor structure, a relatively convergent validity similar tothat found in earlier studies. Narcissism measured using the Dirty Dozen, however, did not contribute withinformation to the core constitution of the Dirty Dozen construct. More importantly, the results imply a SingleItem Dirty Dark Triad (SIDDT) measure of a manipulative and anti-social core as the content of the DirtyDozen scale.

    Abstract [sv]

Att stödja vuxnas lärande: En observationsstudie kring stöd inom svensk vuxenutbildning2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of conducting participating observations within a Swedish adult education was to put the support in the learning of adults on the agenda. Also, it concerned the importance of an inclusive way of working for learning. This is a way of working which is based on a synergistic cooperation between environment and pedagogy.

The result shows that there is a potential for development within the organization through increasing and broadening the learning among and between colleagues. Moreover it is about cooperation in the work with the students whereas it is important to make the support visible as a red thread through the organizational work. For example, the students already in their applications be able to acknowledge needs or suspected needs of support in learning. At admittance, students can meet teachers for mapping their situation and thereafter let the education be permeated by study techniques and individual possibilities for adjustments. Furthermore, the results showed need for distinct communication regarding structure and routines in which it is clearly stated who does what, how and why.
