Willingness to pay of Swedes for milk2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Nowadays, the survival of Swedish farmers is in danger. Since 1980's, the consumption of milk in Sweden dropped significantly. As a consequence, the price of milk has decreased and the salary of the farmers has stayed the same. To protect the survival of Swedish farmers, it is important to look at the origin of the problem: the change in consumers' habits concerning the milk. Thus, the purpose of the investigation is to study the attitudes of Swedish Consumers to different issues related to milk consumption. The research question is "Are Swedish consumers willing to pay a higher price for milk?" It aims also to analyze the willingness to pay a higher price for milk according to different factors, such as the personal ones, the societal ones, the psychological ones and the situational ones. Thus this investigation gave an overview of the Swedes' willingness to pay a higher price for milk and how to improve it. This thesis can also be used as a model for further studies with a larger sample. The support used to perform this study was a survey which was distributed to the residents of Trollhättan and the method was a quantitative one with descriptive statistics by using the software SPSS. Twenty-three questionnaires have been collected in Trollhättan. They have been analyzed and they have contributed to the results of our investigation. The questionnaire was built with the existing theories and scientific articles about the willingness to pay, the factors influencing the purchase-decision and the trends in Swedes' consumption. These secondary data have also been used at the end to compare them with the empirical findings in order to draw a conclusion. This investigation showed that personal, societal, psychological and situational factors influence the willingness to pay a higher price for milk. Concerning the consumption, the presence of children improves the purchase of milk as we found in our theories. Concerning the willingness to pay a higher price for milk, by using the hypothetical bottle and improving the perception of the situation of the farmers, we figured out that the majority of our sample is willing to pay a higher price. This willingness does not depend on the income of respondents but depend on the learning factor. As solution to improve the willingness to pay a higher price for milk, we can assert the necessity to print some labels concerning the amount perceived by the farmer per bottle on the packaging.

New product launch: How startups meet the environmental challenges during product launch2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The thesis is about New Product Launch - How startups meet the environmental challenges during product launch. Elodie Duhoo and Chloé Vasseur have written it during the spring term 2019 for the degree project. This thesis project aims to understand the measures which allow overcoming environmental challenges of a startup when launching a new product. Entrepreneurs can be interested in our results in order to understand how they can overcome environmental challenges launching a new product. Scholars can also use our results as purposes of understanding startup and innovation product management literature. We answered to one research question: How do startups overcome environmental challenges during the new product launch? The study was concentrated on innovations and challenges related to the external environment, especially concerning customers and competitors when startups launch a new product. In the literature review and the theoretical frame of references part, we demonstrate that the challenges are overcome with customers adopting a product thanks to the diffusion and when customers accept the innovation, customers set aside the existing products from competitors. For purposes of supporting and comparing the existing theories, we have conducted a qualitative research through two interviews realized by Skype. We have collected rich data from two different startups -Alpha A and Alpha B- which have both launched at least one successful product. The empirical data present the identification of the environmental challenges related to customers and competitors, as well as the overcoming of these latter regarding the cases of Alpha A and Alpha B separately. Finally, the analysis part was constructed through within case studies highlighting differences and similarities between theories and Alpha A and Alpha B separately. A cross-case study analysis was also conducted in order to develop and understand the common threads and the disparities between our two cases. In that respect, we arrived at the conclusion that environmental challenges related to customers can be overcome thanks to the following measures: the understanding of the mission of the startup/the problem the startup solves, the establishment of a target strategy (the targeting of early adopters and the finding of targets segments), the preparation of a sales speech, the use of communication channels, and ROI test or/and reassurance of customers. Environmental challenges related to competitors can be overcome thanks to the following measures: relative advantage, the maintenance of the relationship with competitors.

    Abstract [en]

The digitalization in society has contributed to developed technologies where daily communication has become more digital and it has changed the society, we live in. The covid-19 pandemic has forced organizations to close their workplaces and take action to reduce the spread of the virus. The actions have resulted in forced teleworking where the daily work is done digitally by the workers. Previous research about forced telework during covid-19 has focused on how telework affects the workers productivity and efficiency. Few studies have been conducted with regards to how forced teleworking affects the workers work motivation and work-life balance.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between work motivation and forced teleworking. The study is based on a qualitative research method. The empirical materials consist of five semi-structured interviews that have been conducted on an organization in west Sweden. The Study finds that there are different factors that influence work motivation where the results show that forced teleworking has to some extent had a positive effect on work motivation. The result also shows that work-life balance has been both positive and negative during forced teleworking, where personal preferences have been the main reason for the variation.

Det balanserade styrkortet: svårigheter vid införandet utifrån ett konsultperspektiv2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Short-term, backward-looking and focus on the foregoing are part of the criticism that has been directed against financial management. To reach long- term focus in the management control system, more future- oriented performance measures, like customer satisfaction and product quality, are required. Kaplan and Norton were some of the researchers who were critical to the financial management. 1992 they introduced a new concept within management accounting- the balanced scorecard. Through combining the financial measures with the future- oriented nonfinancial measures, organizations are able to connect their long- term strategy to the short- term actions and reach a more balanced man-agement control. There are companies that demand and use the management control model, but since the implementation means some difficulties there is a need of external support. Since the middle of the 1990's a supply side has been developed which consists of management consultants that meets the demand, and support companies in the adoption process of the balanced scorecard. Previous research has shown that there are different factors that affect the implementation of the balanced scorecard. These studies are mostly based on the adopters' perceptions and experiences of the scorecard, which means that the results from these studies are from a demand perspective.

Therefore, this study aims to investigate which difficulties affect the implementation of the balanced scorecard from a supply perspective.

We have used a hermeneutic perspective and applied a qualitative method. Five consultants have been interviewed at five different companies in the Gothenburg- area. The theoretical framework includes factors that affect the adoption process from a demand- based perspective. This will be the foundation to investigate the consultants' perceptions of factors that affect the adoption process. Earlier research shows hat the demand perspective has experienced that the following factors affects the imple-mentation: communication, choice of performance measure and design, leadership, em-ployees and adaption.

The result from the study shows that the supply sides experiences these affecting factors as well, but the opinion on how it complicates the implementation differs.

Utformning av reklambudskap vid interkulturell marknadsföring: Hur en svensk global organisation utformar reklambudskap i reklamvideor som marknadsför sig på YouTube i Sverige, Indien och USA.2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Global marketing is a broad subject and well-studied by many scientists. Yet today it is hard for organizations to get successful globally because of lack of knowledge and even the competitors around the world. This study has searched for advertising messages and how culture affects the creating of global video commercial. It is known that culture is the main aspect to consider while marketing globally, but it is not the only aspect to count on. This study investigates how to form a video commercial based on advertising messages, cultural differences and marketing strategies to attract consumers. The purpose of this study is to search for how a Swedish company work with advertising messages directed to other countries and can practice to successfully reach consumers globally. This was done with the help of a qualitative approach in the form of interviews and observations of various video ads. The primary data is given by a marketing manager in the selected organization to study, Volvo Cars Corporation. The theoretical aspects that are discussed are Hofstede's five dimensions, cultural and psychological distance, adaptation and standardization, emotional- and information-based messages, message through video-marketing and YouTube as a marketing-platform. The countries that is search in this study is Sweden, USA and India. Through the research the results were shown that the advertising message is based on cultural differences and marketing strategies. The study shows that cultural differences by Hofstede and psychological and cultural distance matters in designing advertising messages. In Sweden and India, the marketing strategy that is most successful is to adapt the commercial, while in USA it is commercial that is standardized that is getting most attention.

Peruvian small and medium-sized enterprises in times of Crisis-Or what is happening over time?2021In: Sustainability, E-ISSN 2071-1050, Vol. 13, no 24, article id 13560Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Crises means a particular threat to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The pandemic is no exception; on the contrary, it reinforces this threat. This study provides insight into crisis management in SMEs over a period of time. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews in Peruvian SMEs at two points in time. The findings provide insight into how the Peruvian firms studied adapted to the new situation, and initiated responses to cope with the crisis covering the period April-December 2020. By having studied the phenomenon of crisis management in SMEs at different stages, the study contributes to the further development of still underdeveloped fields of research, namely, crisis management in Latin America in general, and crisis management in SMEs in particular.

    Abstract [en]

The Swedish accounting regulation has for a long time been developed through extensive legislation and in recent years also been influenced by international accounting. The Swedish accounting board BFN considered that the accounting for unlisted companies was too complicated. Therefore the regulation came to be developed through BFN's categorization project meaning that all companies were divided into four categories, K1-K4, based on company size and business. In January 2014 the K3 regulatory became mandatory for all large companies not using the international accounting standards IFRS, including the smaller companies that had not chosen to use the simplifying regulatory framework K2. The result of this was that nearly 98 percent of the Swedish companies were faced with the choice between K2 and K3 when K-regulatory became mandatory. In addition to the technical accounting differences that exist between the regulatories there are more aspects to take into consideration, since two seemingly similar companies are able to select different sets of rules for other reasons. Thus, the study aimed to obtain knowledge and insight into the regulatory K2 and K3 by examining the factors that, according to the accounting profession, determines the choice of the smaller companies. To fulfil the study's purpose an inductive approach was used and qualitative primary data was obtained through interviews with eight representatives within the accounting profession. The collected primary data were transcribed and thematized, thereafter analyzed and linked to the selected literature in the theoretical framework which consisted of both positive and systems-oriented accounting theories. Previous research has proven that there are various factors that influence the choice of accounting method, and some of these are associated with the company's business and industry affiliation. Moreover, several studies have shown that stakeholders can have a strong influence on the choice of regulatory framework and according to some researchers, companies' choices can also be explained by institutional mechanisms in the external environment. Although the choice of regulatory framework for accounting should be made by the company themselves, the accounting profession often determines this for them through advices and recommendations. Furthermore, the nature of the company, nature of business and industry affiliation are the main factors that determines the choice of accounting regulatory. These company-specific characteristics have also led to that some companies rather have been forced instead of being able to make an own active choice. In addition to this, small companies also value simplicity and therefore prefer and choose the least expensive option.

How companies implement a Cause-Related Marketing Strategy?2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Nowadays, we can see that more and more companies are using Cause related marketing in order to promote their corporate image and reputation and also in order to improve their public relations, So we wanted to know what was the different steps of implementation of a CRM strategy. The purpose of this study is to provide a deeper understanding about the implementation of a CRM strategy by companies. We also wanted to observe if every company applied the same process. To find answers, we have made a research question which is:

    "

How do companies implement a CRM strategy?"

After this step, we have started to gather some theories already done about the topic. Then we have conducted a qualitative study, we have contacted people involved in the implementation of cause related marketing in Swedish companies. We have used a semi-structured interview by phone.

We found through our study that the companies that we interviewed followed a flexible process but which is close from theory. Every companies does have similar strategies that they follow when they implement a CRM strategy, they do it without overthinking concerning the process on its own, for companies, steps overlap themselves in a logical way.

    Abstract [en]

For many, selling a home is the biggest financial affair of their lives. According to Swedish broker statistic (Svensk Mäklarstatistik, 2019) as many as 95% of sellers hire a real estate agent. This means a lot of people annually facing the challenge of evaluating which real estate agent to have by their side throughout the sales process. There is an ongoing discussion in the real estate industry about what factors influence the home seller when choosing a specific agent. Both authors of this essay are currently working as real estate agents and for that reason have a great interest in the subject. The objective of this thesis is to contribute with increased knowledge to the real estate industry, by presenting different factors that affects home sellers when choosing an agent. The purpose is achieved by answering the following question: What factors influence home sellers when choosing a real estate agent? The method used by the authors is a quantitative method by web surveys. The thesis is based on several theories to create a width among the influencing factors. At the end of the theory description an analysis model is presented that follows the essay as a common thread. The study shows that all 20 factors studied affect home sellers when choosing a real estate agent, but that some factors affect more than others. The factors that affect the most are the factors that have to do with the real estate agent itself. The five factors that influence sellers the most are: commitment by the agent, trust in the agent, personal chemistry, that the agent is accessible and flexible and that the agent offers a broad advertising of the estate.

Ta en risk! Friskt vågat är hälften vunnet, inte sant?: En kvalitativ studie av svenska bankers riskstrategier och riskbedömning av privatpersoners konsumtionslån utan säkerhet2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In today's society consumers are regularly encouraged to consume more and more. One reason that people today consume more than people used to are that money nowadays are more easily accessible than they were before. This has led to more people applying for unsecured smaller loans, which is a risky business for banks that grants these kinds of loans. The banks put themselves in risk of consumers not being able to pay them back when they grant unsecured loans. This papers authors have an interest in both economy and consumption and therefor also discovered an interest in the risks that banks put themselves in when granting unsecured loans. The authors discovered that there was a limited amount of earlier research available on the subject. An aim for this paper therefore was to identify which factors the banks consider when assessing a credit loan application and how the bank make the assessments. Furthermore, this paper aims to identify the risks that the banks put themselves in when granting this kind of loan, how the risks affect the banks risk strategies and how the banks take in consideration consumers behaviour when the banks make their risk assessments. This paper was conducted by a qualitative method. Theory was assembled from 18 peer reviewed articles. Seven semi structured interviews where held with representatives from seven different Swedish banks. The persons being interviewed where chosen based on the knowledge and experience they possessed in credit and risk assessment. Therefore, the people that were asked to take part in the interviews worked as credit managers, office managers and credit risk managers. The banks that contributed with an interview where chosen with knowledge that they would represent different parts of the market, wishing to create a bigger variation and a depth in the data material. The interviewed persons represented bigger banks, medium sized banks and nichebanks. In the empiricism the study shows that the main factors that banks consider when they assess these kinds of loans are the customers income and assessed ability to repay the loans. The banks identified both the customers' ability and their will to repay the loan, as the biggest risk they faced. They also considered how customers behave. The study shows that banks applied different kinds of risk scoring models that they based the risk assessment and interest rate on. From the study it shows that banks differ in their view on whether these types of loans are profitable, although most of the banks did not consider them to be profitable

    Abstract [en]

Our aim with this qualitative study was to, through interviews, examine female leaders' experiences of discrimination in their leadership roles in Sweden and Switzerland as well as illustrate differences between the countries. This is a relevant topic as the literature shows that there are still differences in how women and men are treated, both in working life and in society. The literature review for this study clarified five themes in the research area: glass ceiling, role conflicts, stereotyping of women, homogeneous preferences and perception. In order to examine this, seven female leaders from Sweden and Switzerland have been interviewed in regard to their experiences from current and previous leadership roles. The following themes emerged from the analysis of the gathered data: career barriers, work life balance, experiences connected to gender and cultural differences. These themes steam from the experiences of female leaders in various situations linked to gender discrimination. The study showed that the Swedish respondents linked their experiences more directly to gender discrimination and that the Swiss respondents were more prone to find alternative explanations to their experiences. This study suggests that this difference could be explained by perception.

Den interna kommunikationens påverkan i en organisationsförändring2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose with this study is to highlight how the internal communication affects the outcome of organizational change. We would like to contribute knowledge to why lack of communication often leads to unsuccessful organizational change. To execute the study we analyzed and discussed 19 scientific articles and also six interviews were carried out with essential respondents to reach a conclusion. The theoretical part that is presented in our study describes how important communication is in an organization and especially during organizational change. We describe organizational change and communication as separate subjects and we also discuss their characteristics. Our empirical part of the research contains interviews which shows how organization X dealt with their organizational change and how they used their internal communication during the change. After we studied the organizational change in organization X we reached the conclusion that there are a lot of factors to consider in this area. Some of the important factors to consider are to include everyone in an organization in the process, to be distinct with the message that is communicated and to continuously hold dialogues. The reason for this is to avoid dissatisfaction and reduced productivity. It is also important for organization X to keep their organizational culture that has been prominent for their company from the start. If the lack of communication in the organization stems from the fact that the communication between the leaders is not functioning properly, the organization has to focus on controlling that first. If the communication between the leaders is functioning, the next step is to communicate in a better way to the other co-workers.

På vilket sätt kan centrumhandeln överleva denväxande externhandeln?: En studie gjord i Trollhättans kommun2015Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Historicity in change laboratories: the role of the history wall tool to understand collective concept formation and model creation2021Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper we focus on how four change laboratories in schools in a Swedish municipalityactively used the history wall tool in their respective CL process to tackle unequal access toeducational success. The four CLs were conducted in 2019-2021 involving in total 83 participants. The participants in each of the four CL brought with them their individual professional experiencesto the work with the history wall achieving a depicted timetable. This created a common groundfor each CL collective to get a mutual understanding of the amount and content of what individualsbrought with them into the professional situation of fighting inequalities to educational success.During the analysis, important events and characteristics of periods were conceptualized. Thesesconceptualizations were further linked to the range of models created in each CL to tackleinequalities. However, it became apparent that the models differed, and we argue that theydiffered depending on the historical traits each collective discussed as issues for them at theirschool also influencing prioritized models to work further with at each school. We suggest that the history wall work both stimulated further model creation as well as served asan understanding why certain models became prioritized by each collective. Therefore, thehistorical traits should be emphasized in the process as well in the analysis of created models tounderstand the participants rationale for concept formation and model creation.

Indirect knowledge acquisition and influence on the pace of internationalization2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This research has been written as a part of the master's degree project course at University West and deals with a holistic case study with company x. Company X is a SME located in the Netherlands. They are a global specialist in spraying equipment for horticulture for over 40 years. The Uppsala model describe how experiential learning and the process of internationalization are related. But no studies have been investigated the influence of different types of knowledge acquisition on the speed of internationalization. The purpose of our study is to gain a deeper understanding of how indirect experiences as sources of knowledge acquisition influence speed of a firms' internationalization for firms' that usually follow a slowly process of internationalization. This is a qualitative study with a deductive approach, based on one single holistic case study. Data was collected through five personal semi-structured interviews and supplemented with secondary data. The respondents were four individuals within the company and one external consultant. Data analysis between primary and secondary data were conducted. Empirical evidence shows the entry in the German market from company x, the employment of the sales representative, the first contact between company x and the external consultant and the hiring of the external consultant at the company. Secondary data and the empirical evidence are discussed to understand how indirect experiences as sources of knowledge acquisition influence speed of internationalization. In addition, network position and other factors influence the pace of internationalizationas well. Further, empirical evidence shows that vicarious knowledge acquisition from an external consultant has major impact on the increased speed of internationalization, although the firm usually adopts a quite slow process of internationalization. The institutional and business-network knowledge from this source is mainly responsible for the change inpace. However, our findings also indicate that there are other important factors that influence the pace. Our data shows that the strategic intention of the firm is strongly influencing the pace of internationalization.

Att motivera och belöna: Ur chefsperspektiv2021Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Medarbetarsamtal: Ett verktyg för inflytande?2016Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Konflikten mellan kommersiella och ideella aspekter: Utifrån företagsekonomiska perspektiv inom elitidrott2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Based on the research that has existed in the field of business administration at elite sports clubs, by far the largest contribution has been internationally, where Swedish elite sports are absent from research on the commercial part of sports. It is known that Sweden, along with a few other countries, has different conditions regarding elite sports for regulatory reasons due to the 51 percent rule, which makes the associations member driven. Therefore, there is a knowledge gap in how Swedish elite sports clubs take on the conflict between the commercial and non-profit activities. The purpose and research question to ensure that the contribution to the research was to find out what challenges exist for elite sports clubs in Sweden, and how these elite sports clubs handle the conflict between commercial and non-profit activities. The basis for the thesis is based on models that have previously been used in similar research internationally. The models have been divided based on business administration areas such as marketing, organization and leadership. Qualitative interviews have been conducted with people from two Swedish elite sports clubs who have good insight into both the commercial and non-profit aspects of each respectively club. The analysis has generated successful factors in the sports clubs but also identified the challenges and obstacles they face. The conclusion was that Swedish elite sports clubs have good finances and a strong club culture. But at the same time, there are business challenges that Swedish elite sports clubs face due to their high economic growth.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to contribute to an increased understanding of how leaders feel they are affected by digitalisation. The question we want to answer is: What challenges and opportunities do leaders experience with digitization? Qualitative methodology was used in the study and data was collected through seven semi structured interviews with leaders in the private sector from various industries, ages 27-52. The findings in the study indicate that leaders experience different challenges and opportunities with digitalisation. Knowing when it is possible to digitise meetings with employees and when meetings should be physically conducted, is one challenge among others. Contradictions both in theory and in the study's empirical material regarding how generation affiliation among employees is relevant to how leaders should adapt their leadership were also observed. Leaders need to be adaptable and responsive to change in order to deal with the challenges that arise with digitisation, as digitisation is an ongoing process that is also increasing in complexity. Employees, but also leaders, can feel a certain stress from being constantly available and accessible. Digitalisation can contribute to a better balance between work and private life. But a challenge is also to see the opportunities that exist with digitalisation and create a commitment and willingness to adopt new digital technology.

The study contributes to increased understanding of how leaders perceive they are affected by digitalisation. The study also provides empirical examples where leaders highlight the challenges and opportunities they are experiencing as a result of digitalisation. Continued research in the area is proposed to focus on employee perspectives on how leadership is changing through digitalisation and also to gain an individual perspective on how employees perceive digitalisation growth. Also doing studies in more industry-specific environments to correlate differences between organisations with high and low digital maturity, respectively.

    Abstract [en]

A person in need of the support from the community through social services is in some form outside the ordinary society. When the support is needed they get this from either the state, the municipal or the private sector. When there is complex issues, may all actors from all sectors be involved for the aid to be as good as possible. In this study we chose to limit ourselves to the private sector.Working towards becoming a learning organization means that the organization works with learning, reflection of knowledge, continuous improvement, both individuals in need of support and staff development are as important for us to develop the business as well as possible . The aim of our study was to look into conditions there are for the players involved in the industry care and treatment in order to create and maintain a learning organization. In order to fulfill the purpose of the study, we chose to use a qualitative approach with interviews as a method. In total we conducted 11 interviews from two different organizations. In the theory section, we have the well known experts in the subject as Senge which stands for the theory of the five disciplines and Argyris who came up the single loop and double loop theory. Furthermore, we also have theories about skills development, teamwork and information flow intake from the outside world. We have also used our collected theory as a basis for our interview guide. What emerged in our conclusion was that there are good opportunities for creating and maintaining a learning organization. Even when we limit ourselves to the private sector, we believe that it is transferable to both the municipal and state activities as these operators have the same mission and also works for the individual's best.

    Abstract [en]

The interest in sustainability in society has significantly increased in recent years, and there is now a stronger commitment to consumers' environmental awareness in the choice of products and services. Due to this increased demand, companies are now facing challenges regarding transparency and openness, especially concerning economic, social, and ecological aspects. The vehicle industry is affected by time-limited legislation and a steadily growing consumer demand. Due to the vehicle industry's complex manufacturing process, the transition to corporate sustainability becomes particularly evident for the entire sector. Responsibility for sustainable business practices involves considering the challenges and impact that may exist throughout the entire supply chain. Despite many countries and suppliers showing increased engagement in sustainability, there are difficulties in validating and scrutinizing the information and claimed achievements presented. It is a significant challenge for a multinational company to ensure who their suppliers are, and how their internal commitment to sustainability proceeds. The purpose of the study was to gain a better understanding of how a manufacturing vehicle company in Sweden controls its multi-tier suppliers concerning sustainability. To achieve this objective, two research questions were formulated, which explore how the global company guides its diverse supplier tiers towards sustainability and the challenges encountered in doing so. Empirical data were collected through semi-structured interviews with employees involved in the supply chain and sustainability, as well as data from official documents and public data sources. The findings of this study reveal that the challenges faced by the company align with previous research and existing literature. Sustainability represents a vital yet relatively nascent area that remains confined within the industrial sector, where historical emphasis has primarily centered around cost considerations. Consequently, mapping the suppliers within the supply chain and imposing stringent requirements upon them poses a formidable challenge. The examined company addresses this by setting ambitious standards for its tier-one suppliers and conducting audits, validations, and certifications to influence lower-tier suppliers to work more sustainably.

Framgångsfaktorer för implementering av Lean inom småföretag: En kvalitativ studie2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

LEAN has gained in popularity as a method to increase the performance of companies on the increasingly global market. Although the popularity for LEAN has increased it is not unusual that the implementation of LEAN fails to yield the expected benefits. Empirical studies show that SME´s can benefit from implementing LEAN and they suggest several factors with importance for LEAN success. The purpose of this study is to identify which factors that are important for the success of LEAN implementation on SME´s in order to contribute with empirical knowledge to the field. Empirically, the study compares implementation of LEAN between two SME´s that have taken somewhat different approach to LEAN implementation. The data from the two companies consists of interviews and observations of the production chain. The result shows that the leadership and the financial resources are crucial factors for the success of LEAN implementation. It is concluded that implementation of LEAN is more likely to succeed if it is undertaken as a strategic measurement rather than panic measurement.

Ekonomistyrning i projekt: Redovisning, Styrning och uppföljning av långa projekt2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This study aimed to elucidate exercise participants’ understanding of critical aspects of organizing and implementation of collaboration exercises with police, fire department and ambulance services. The focus is critical aspects in exercises that have, or are expected to have, bearing on the participants’ ability to learn. Collaboration exercises are used as a tool to reinforce and develop the preparedness for future incidents. The need for such exercises was usually advocated after critique to actions during largescale real-life incidents. The study had a qualitative approach and is based on phenomenographic analysis of interviews with participants from four exercises with different scenarios. The identified critical aspects of exercises were related to realism, acceptance for mistakes, exercise extent and aims and opportunities for joint discussions. The management of an accident can be described to a large extent depend on the organizations’ joint ability to adapt to the prevailing situation and to collaborate. For exercises to contribute to these abilities, they could benefit from shifting the focus to how to organize exercises that allow participants to test different decisions and actions, with less emphasis on the choice of scenario.

There are several different organisations today that perform surveys to discover factors that influence the customer's satisfaction. TNS Sifo is one of the largest actors in Sweden who working with market research, buying habits and guidance in segmentation and positioning.

This study is based on a large amount of collected dataset, which has been collected by TNS Sifo. The data set contains 153 701 responses allocated five countries in Europe, where the surveys intention was to measure customer satisfaction after a car service. The background to the study is that many companies and their stakeholders use similar surveys as indicators for the companies, without knowing how reliable the measurements are.

There are many different factors that affect how the respondent answers a survey. This study has therefore chosen to focus on how the human memory in relation to gender, age and time and what its impact on the outcome of the investigation. The purpose of the report affects on the allocated data set, with a base in marketing linked to previous research in psychology and memory research, and thereby generate a new scientific contribution in customer satisfaction and thereby develop the reliability of market research.

Based on the theory, five hypotheses designed to form the basis of the results and the further analyses. It has been shown that age is a factor that have a significant impact how to measure customer satisfaction, while gender and time does not have the same effect on how to judge

Ekonomistyrning i börsnoterade rikstäckande banker: En studie om Swedbank, Handelsbanken och SEB2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Budget have historically played a key role in management control, but have recently become the subject of widespread criticism and debate. Many companies therefore plan to improve the budget process while others decide to abandon it altogether, to keep up with developments in the financial world (Libby & Lindsay, 2010). Handelsbanken is one of several companies that have chosen to abandon traditional budgeting, this took place in the 1970s in connection with the Jan Wallander, critics of traditional budgeting, became President. The purpose of the study is to gain knowledge of how the office managers/controllers look at the financials of publicly noting nationwide banks, as well as their attitude to traditional budgeting. This study is a hermeneutic approach and has been implemented by means of a qualitative research. The empirical data were collected using semi-structured interviews of three of the four major banks, Swedbank, Handelsbanken and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken. Results of the study showed that all the interviewees are adverse to traditional budgeting and considers that budgeting at the level of detail does not work in today's changing environment. Banks are now much easier to adapt to changes in the world because they have abandoned the traditional budgeting. Therefore, we can see a connection between the criticism of traditional budgeting and that banks today have developed or terminated its budget process. Swedbank and SEB has improved its budgetary process, while Handelsbanken has abandoned it. Common to all banks is that benchmarking is an important part of governance, and that they use similar indicators.

Moving picture development: a case study of development process of moving picture for a film production company, to see if there is room for improvement.2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In the moving picture industry there is something called the development process, which is the startup process of a project. This is when the project only is an idea, before the project is financed or ready to go into production. This thesis researches a London based Production Company that have multiple times successfully gone through the development process and ended up with a film, tv series or a commercial. This thesis researches the development process of the chosen company and compares it to literature that has been made on the subjects of development and moving picture production. The aim of this thesis is to find out if the company can improve their development process and/or of the literature that has been made in the past is legitimate comparing it to how the company handles the process. The subject of development is poorly researched in the part there is almost no literature on the subject although moving picture is one of the biggest industries in the world. So researching the development process and try to find out how the process is improved and done successfully is something that's never been done. The research questions of this thesis are the following: Is there room for improvement in the area of development for the chosen company? To answer this question three sub questions was made that are within the subject of development; How to get the project started and financed? How to pitch the project to investors? What type of person can go through this process successfully? The thesis uses qualitative interviews with the staff of the company to answer the research questions. Three members of the company that have direct influence on the development process are interviewed and answers what development is and how they develop a project. Theories about the producer, development, the moving picture industry in general, the pitch, financing and leadership are being illuminated in the thesis all focused on the very start of the process of making a moving picture. The result of this shows that names are important in development. If there is a famous book being developed it's more likely to get through development or a famous name that work on or supports the project. Experience is something that is valued to get through the development process you are what you have made. Social skills are important to build a network of people that will support the project and that will help making it through development and into production. The result of this thesis shows that the studied company should work on their network within and outside the industry. There social skills, getting more experience, their confidence but most of all their passion for their work. That is what gets a project through development and into production.

Marknadsföringsbranschen under kris: Hur marknadsföringsbranschen påverkats av den pågående lågkonjunkturen2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Today, society is facing a recession. The marketing industry is affected as companies reduce their marketing costs during a crisis. What happens internally in the organizations and the industry? What factors in the outside world affect the industry and what type of crisis management is applied? Today, there is a lack of research into what happens internally during a crisis in the marketing industry. The purpose of this study is therefore to find out how leadership in the marketing industry has been affected by recession. The goal was also to gain an understanding of how crises and the outside world affect the marketing industry. To achieve the purpose of the studies, a qualitative investigation has been performed. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted with five respondents who work in different marketing companies. The interviews have been based on developed theories and models about leadership, the outside world and crisis management. These theories and models are PESTLE models, situational leadership, and social practice theory. The PESTLE model is a model based on six factors to understand the outside world. These factors are political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, legal, and environmental. Situational leadership is a theory about leadership changing in connection with situational changes. Social practice theory is a theory that deals with how crisis management should be designed. The results have been analyzed through an abductive approach to create understanding between the theory and the empirical results together. The results of the study have shown that the industry is affected by various changes in the environment. The leadership has not changed significantly during the crisis. Relationship-oriented leadership was more common than task-oriented leadership. The result also showed that formal crisis management was not something the company worked with.

Strategic Human Resource Management: en strategi för att uppnå framgångsrika organisationer?2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: In today's society organizations are characterized by economic changes, this by globalization, changing customer circumstances and increased competition. Organizations need to constantly improve their competitiveness by streamlining its operations. Today, employees are seen as the organizations most important asset, this because they provide organizations with important sources to become competitive. Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) is an approach that is about to build HR-strategies that make employees knowledge and skills to contribute the organizations to achieve the overall goals.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine how the organization is using a strategic HR-work (SHRM) and if it is a successful strategy. Our study has contributed to a better understanding of the concept of SHRM and how it can be used and how SHRM can affect the organization.

Method: The collection of our empirical material is based on a qualitative approach where we conducted in-depth interviews with HR-managers working in an organization that is active in the automotive industry.

Conclusion: We have concluded that our survey shows that the organization uses the SHRM as working strategy. However, we can not draw any concrete conclusions in which way SHRM affect the organization, but there are clear indications that SHRM has a positive effect, contributing to increased productivity and efficiency. A further conclusion of our study is that it´s very important that the organization have a leadership that promotes SHRM.

Uddevalla kommuns användning av Facebook: en kvalitativ studie om hur kommunen använder Facebook2015Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

In several organizations there is a monetary reward system and it is implemented to increase employee motivation and performance. However, it can have the opposite effect from what is meant to achieve. The purpose of this study is to increase knowledge regarding performance-based reward systems and teleworking during Covid-19. In the study the authors aim to investigate whether the monetary reward system has an impact on motivation among teleworking during Covid-19, and what affects the system has on motivation. To be able to answer the question, previous research related to the subject was wanted, research about reward system, Maslow’s motivation theory, telework and telework connected with Covid-19. Then ten semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data. The choice of organization was made based on certain criteria, the main requirements were that the employees worked as teleworkers and also that the organization had an implemented performance- based reward system. Based on this an organization was chosen, the organization allowed the authors to interview one leader and nine employees.

From the start of the teleworking, the employees felt that the work was hard, because the circumstances were not the same, the rewards as a supplement to this have been positive for some and negative for others. A conclusion could be drawn from the result, as a common thread could be predicted. The employees seemed dependent on a stable basic salary, they only felt safe and secure after their salary was stable, their motivation was not affected by the system. Stress, anxiety and fear arose among some of the employees without any stable salary and low base salary and their motivation decreased in connection with this. The results of the study thus showed that monetary rewards give rise to a change in motivation among employees with low to no base salary and they found that they were most affected by the monetary reward system compared to those with a stable base salary who were not affected at all.

Hur användandet av Lean kan påverka nyckeltal: En fallstudie inom två svenska serviceinriktade organisationer2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Lean as a control system became widely known during the 1990s and is based on how the car manufacturer Toyota controlled its factory. Previous research describes that Lean is a control system that is about continuous improvements, where employees are involved in improvements of the various flows of the business to eliminate waste. The working method advocates a decentralized responsibility where the employees are part of multifunctional teams. Previous research has mainly shown that the use of Lean has had a positive effect on the outcome of key performance indicators and that changes have taken place in the set of key performance indicators. The absolute majority of previous research has been done in the manufacturing industry and only a few have been done on service-oriented organizations. The purpose of this study was to create an indepth understanding and knowledge of how the use of Lean in Swedish service-oriented organizations can impact key performance indicators (KPIs). The outcome of the research questions: How does the set of key performance indicators change when using Lean as a control system? Does the outcome of the key performance indicators change and in such cases, what will the effect on the result be? To answer the research questions, a qualitative research method was used where four interviews were conducted in two different organizations. The case organizations on which the study was conducted were the courier organization and the travel organization. Both of them have been using Lean for a long time, which was essential for the purpose of the study. Some key performance indicators that emerged during the interviews were quality and customer satisfaction. In our analysis, we were able to identify that both organizations focused on employees having or being educated for “right thinking”, which we interpreted as a contributing factor to the success of Lean. Our survey showed that the set of key performance indicators changed with the use of Lean. The key performance indicators increased in number and the measures concerning quality were in the majority. The role of the key performance indicators was given greater importance and was to some extent replaced continuously as they were used to support the development of the organization. Through the study, it was possible to establish that the organizational culture Lean created, had a big impact on both the set and outcome of key performance indicators.

Strategic Human Resource Management: en kvalitativ studie om organisationens förmåga att behålla nyckelmedarbetare2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Great changes have occurred in HR over the last few decades. From being a lower, administrativefunction, HR has developed to a strategic resource in, operating in the higher levels of the organization, which has lead to the development of SHRM. Within the field of SHRM we can find recruitment, management of human capital and activities to decrease turnover. Attention should be paid to retain key employees whom are of great importance for creating a competitive advantage for the organization on the labor market. The purpose of this study is to investigate how organizations use the HR-function to increase retention among key employees; focusing on success factors for a strategic HR-work and its effect on the psychological contract. We've used qualitative interviews containing three informants that represent an organizations operational management team. The material has been assembled and analyzed through an interpreting approach where we, supported by theories and previous research, have identified relevant terms that have been investigated empirically. A conclusion regarding SHRM, as a practice, is that it demands a high level of knowledge and insight within the operational management team regarding the diversity of HR and how it can contribute to the organization in order to be implemented within the organization. Regarding activities to decrease turnover to keep key employees, organizations primarily need to signify the existence of key employees to even consider wanting to work with these kinds of activities. Furthermore, we have identified the lack of priority that the psychological contract gets if turnover has become a natural part of the everyday life within the organization.

Implementering av General Data Protection Regulation i organisationer: En explorativ studie om olika sätt att anpassa sig till den tvingande lagen GDPR2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The personal data management has for a long time been handled under the personal data law, but has since May 2018 been replaced by the new data regulation protection regulation GDPR. The purpose of this new is to protect people’s integrity, and the law creates new requirements for how organisations may use personal information such as name, address, telephone number, and social security code. Since GDPR is an imperative law, all organisations in the EU must fulfil its requirements, and to do that some type of adaptation must be done. This study aims to find out how the implementation of GDPR has been handled in Swedish organisations that works in the consumer market. This study will deal with organisations communication, both internally and externally, and also leadership and routines, to try to understand how three different organisations have choose to implement the new imperative law. This is an explorative study with and abductive approach, and a qualitative method has been used to gather data. Three organisations have been studied and six interviews has been conducted, where one of the interviewed from each organisation were from the management and one were from the employees. Our result suggests that organisations can implement GDPR in different ways. The three organisations have implemented GDPR with the common feature that they have all updated their routines and work procedure to be able to adapt to the new imperative GDPR law. We can see that the most effective implementations of GDPR is because of a well working communication, the right type of leadership, and a functioning change in routines.

Ledarskap och Generation Y: Hur ledarskapet kan påverka Generation Y på en arbetsplats?2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This thesis has been performed at AstraZeneca located in Mölndal. The purpose of this study has been to describe the importance of soft values in relation to control measurements. The objective was to develop an approach that accounts for soft values within measurment, combined with the philosopy of Lean Production.

The study is based on the theory that it is possible to use the soft values as a control measure, and examines how soft values can be measured.

To gather data for the study, the author has chosen to use a qualitative approach, which has consisted of interviews and observations. The empirical data contains a detailed description of the data collection. By associating the theory frame of reference and the work, a specific model has been developed to achieve the purpose and goal.

The result showed that the existing indicators are not sufficiently anchored to the operational workplace as soft values are not considered enough, and are therefore not considered realistic in relation to the requirements set in the agreement. The result also shows that soft values can be used in control of measurment by converting topics to ratios. This will then be measured in scales by using the resulting model.

Where do I post this?: - Social media marketing in B2B construction companies2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to gain a better understanding of how small and mid-size B2B companies in the construction industry use social media to aid their sales process. Method: In order to fulfil the purpose the authors choose a case study method. Two B2B companies in the construction industry were selected. Data was gathered by observations and interviews. This data was then analysed using a model the authors had constructed. Findings: The case study resulted in an applied model for each of the companies that illustrate how they use social media in their sales process. The model shows at what stages social media is used, which social media platforms are used, how it is intended to be used and in what manner sales and marketing departments at the companies cooperate during the sales process. The study show that strategy and managerial expectations and involvement is key for how well social is used in the sales process. It also shows that the primary use of social media for both companies is to distribute product information. Research limitations: Only two interviews were conducted. The research mirrors the current social media use. No generalizations can be made and the results only concern the companies that were studied. Practical Implications: Social media use can serve to improve business operations, among them the sales process. Having an understanding of how B2B businesses use social media enables further research into which specific benefits it can have and how to enable these benefits.

Sustainable Innovations in Small Enterprises for the Transformation of the Primary Healthcare Sector2020In: Sustainability, ISSN 2071-1050, Vol. 12, no 16, p. 1-19, article id 6391Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Small enterprises face multiple and complex challenges when developing digital technologies. The aim of this article is to explore the role of sustainable innovation in small enterprises in relation to the ongoing transformation of the primary healthcare sector. The purpose is to gain understanding of innovation processes within the framework of sustainable development, applied to a local primary healthcare center. Data were collected through seven semi-structured interviews. A qualitative thematic analysis was conducted. Five themes appeared in relation to the ongoing transformation of the primary healthcare sector: (1) The process of sustainable innovation in a long-term perspective; (2) the companies’ views on innovations in healthcare; (3) effects of innovations in healthcare; (4) sustainable product or service development, and (5) the role of collaboration in the innovation process. The companies expressed a positive attitude to new innovations, as a natural part of developing the companies. The article concludes that incremental development of tools in small businesses supports the transformation of processes and services in the primary healthcare sector. Cross-disciplinary teams in collaboration facilitates the necessary learning and the required creation and sharing of knowledge.

Attityder till budgetering: En kvalitativ studie inom västsvenska kommuner2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Attitudes towards a budget, as a management tool, cannot be generalized in both private and public sector. Earlier research has only been conducted on companies operating in private but not in public sector. One problem that can arise with a negative attitude towards the budget is that the organization runs a risk of having to fight the uphill battle. It might inhibit the quality of the work output, and there is also a risk that the negative attitude could be transferred onto employees and reduce their work motivation. Previous studies have shown both positive and negative criticism to the budget as a management tool. The budget is considered, among other things, to be rigid and that it prevents managers from being creative. Some organizations strongly stress the negative criticism, however, they still choose to keep the budget as a management tool. The submitted criticism cannot be generalized as there is a lack of knowledge about the use of a budget. Some think that the budget should be maintained, but that it needs to be developed to cover the whole entity of the financial control.

The aim of this study was to investigate local government economists' attitude towards the budget as a management tool. The investigation was limited to education administrations in the West Swedish municipalities, in which eight interviews with economists were conduc-ted. We wanted to examine economists' own attitude towards the budget as a management tool, and also investigate how working with non-financial educated colleagues affected them. However, there is a gap between goals and means, which the interviewees consider a result of the economic terminology's way of complicating information conveyance of the purpose of the budget. A more distinct attitude would probably have been found if the study had included operations managers, who are the ones responsible for implementing and executing the budget along its frames. The conclusion derived from the results states that economists generally are in favor of the budget because it serves its purpose as a tool for resource allocation. However, economists believe that a more obvious connection should be made to the organization's goals which will be required in the future to achieve a better overall impression regarding the organization.

    Abstract [sv]

    Bakgrund & Problemdiskussion

    Abstract [en]

Previous research shows that the accounting economist's tasks become more cost-effective and time efficient because of routine and monetary tasks being implemented in automation systems. On the other hand, previous research differs when it comes to the accounting economist's attitude to changed tasks because of automation.

Therefore, this study aims to contribute with more knowledge about the accounting economist's attitude to changed work tasks, because of automated work tasks. As a basis for the study, previous research on topics such as the accounting economist's current and future tasks, how attitudes to change can be expressed and differences between the generations of Baby Boomer, Generation X and Generation Y have been presented.

To fulfill the purpose of the study, empirical data have been collected through a qualitative method in the form of semi-structured interviews, in which ten respondents from two agencies have participated. The empirical data is based on an interview guide where current questions were used for all interviews. Furthermore, the empirical evidence has led to an analysis divided into three themes; how automation has affected the accounting economist's tasks, attitude to change and automation and the accounting economist's future.

The analysis has led to three conclusions, the first conclusion is that there is a connection between attitude and generations in such a way that the older generations, Baby Boomers and Generation X, require good communication and participation in the change process, for the setting to be positive. However, Generation Y does not require good communication for the attitude to be positive. Despite this, it is not only generations that influence the attitude to change, but also affected by how the change process is communicated.

The second conclusion of the study is that the accounting economist's tasks have and will change to become more complex and advisory due to automation, as the monetary tasks will be increasingly automated. The third conclusion of the study is that accounting economists generally have a positive attitude towards changed and future tasks due to automation.

    Abstract [en]

Businesses like rescue services all face situations that cannot be fully planned because every emergency is different from the other. In this qualitative case study, the aim has been to examine the organization, workers and leadership of Borås Räddningstjänst. 18 interviewees are selected from various levels of the organization to represent completeness. The study has a hermeneutic and inductive approach, meaning that the empirical data is first collected and after that the search began of relevant previous data that could be tied to the empirical data. The material has then been construe by the author to create an understanding of the whole. The study suggests that employees are mutually responsible for the organization´s best. Despite that the management and leaders not work in any significant ways work towards the organization´s goal or guidelines.

Value Propositions in Public Collaborations: Regaining Organizational Focus Through Value Configurations2022In: British Journal of Management, ISSN 1045-3172, E-ISSN 1467-8551, Vol. 33, no 4, p. 2070-2085Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

There is consensus that complex problems of contemporary society call for public service collaborations. So-called public service logic (PSL) focuses on joint value creation among a multiplicity of actors in service ecosystems. Despite recognizing various actors, this logic is essentially user-centric, with the service user being the one realizing the value. Consequently, single and collaborating organizations cannot deliver value, only potential value, or so-called value propositions. The elusive public service logic takes a network value configuration for granted and as a starting point. Drawing from two cases in Swedish healthcare, this paper argues that two other value configurations (chain andshop) are also relevant for understanding the development of value propositions – and that these may be related to both intra- and inter-organizational processes. Theoretically, we conclude that just like public service logic, other collaborative public management theories need to recognize the importance of a multiplicity of value configurations and that these are often related to both intra- and inter-organizational processes. We conclude that managers should not adopt the latest network trends without first reflecting on the relevance of existing internal processes.

Public management in turbulent times: COVID-19 as an ecosystem disruptor2021In: Australian journal of public administration, ISSN 0313-6647, E-ISSN 1467-8500, Vol. 80, no 4, p. 732-747Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The decentralisation of Swedish healthcare closer to citizens has been slow. Drawing from empirical material of the reform prior and amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, this paper argues that the pandemic has disrupted the healthcare ecosystem. Consequently, citizen-centred collaborations have accelerated integration of resources (such as knowledge and skills) across organisational, hierarchical and professional borders. However, collaborations have been delimited to traditional healthcare providers, neglecting the resources of citizens and other actors to be used to improve service delivery. The pandemic has revealed strengths and weaknesses with the prevailing healthcare ecosystem that post-COVID-19 public management must address, both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, the paper contributes to the development of a public service logic, addressing both strengths and difficulties with the logic in turbulent times. Practically, the empirical descriptions contribute to improved understanding of public service delivery reform and how it is impacted during the pandemic. © 2021 The Authors. Abstract [en]

Purpose: The primary purpose of our thesis was to study how important the Swedish IRS, a manager and an auditor reckon that auditing and accounting is. Another purpose was to enlighten the importance of accounting and the consequences without auditing of the annual report that companies establish. Our purpose was also to study the reliability that auditing provides and why auditing is important.

Method: Our thesis was qualitative with a deductive approach. We have interviewed a manager in a company in Lindesberg. We have also made a survey containing a few specially selected people that participated in the survey and answered questions regarding accounting and auditing. To get a better knowledge in the subject we have read literature about research methodology, auditing and accounting. We contacted the Swedish IRS and Ernest & Young that is an accounting firm, in order to get their point of view in the matter.
