Betydelsen av organisationers och individers digitaliseringsgrad för kunskapsdelning2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

We live today in a digitalized society and the usage of digital tools is in our everyday lives. Digitalization is incredible important and it is constantly increasing for both organizations but also for the individual. What many researchers agree on is that knowledge is one of the most important factor for the success of an organization and to take care and spread that knowledge throughout the organization is an incredible challenge. One research area that focuses on managing knowledge is the so-called knowledge management where creation, retrieval, storage and distribution of information is central. Many models within knowledge management are based on a couple of theories from behavioral science, these are called Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Later research in informatics has also taken digitalization into account and the impact that digitalization might have on knowledge sharing. Models within the informatics area has been developed and two of the biggest ones are Theory Acceptance Model (TAM) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). The models have faced some criticism for considering knowledge as a finished externalized product that can be collected or donated. This study has its primary purpose in developing existing models of knowledge sharing and investigate the potential impact of organizations and individuals' digitalization level on knowledge sharing. The study has a quantitative approach and is based on a survey with 265 respondents. The results of the study confirm previous research and provides a nuances image in which mutual collegiality and attitudes is prominently. Furthermore, it is shown that the digitalization of organizations and individuals has the potential to increase knowledge sharing behavior, as well as common knowledge development, among people with the lowest upper secondary education.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Motivation is important to promote in an organization, since it is different for everyone. Money could be a motivating factor for one coworker while another gets motivated by praise or feedback. Since the staff is the organization's most important resource, it is therefore important that the management fulfills the needs of every employee and continuously work with motivation to achieve good work environment in the organization. Rewarding systems can be one way to increase the motivation among the employees, because by getting rewarded they know that the management appreciates their work. It can be difficult to succeed in finding the right reward system for your own organization because all employees have different needs and gets motivated differently. The purpose with our study was to investigate how the work with motivation and reward systems are designed and how it works in practice. Furthermore, it is studied how organizations' management works with motivation and how employees perceive actions aimed at increasing motivation. A qualitative method has been used where we collected empirical data through semi structured interviews. Our theoretical framework consists of previous research which created the following themes motivation, motivation for work, management's role in motivational work, reward systems, financial-, nonfinancial-, individual- and group-based rewards. These themes are recurring through theoretical framework, empirical data and analysis and interpretation. Theoretical framework and empirical data form the basis for our analysis and interpretation. The result of the study shows that the management works to promote employee motivation through various ways such as financial, non-financial, individual and group-based rewards. We also concluded that the employees want more of the non-financial rewards, especially to the individual employee. However, it appears that the management should work more to increase the motivation of employees by following up and devote more time to such work, based on a short-term and long-term perspective.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

We have conducted this study with the aim to create an understanding of how the Human Resources departments, as well as its parts may affect both large and small organizations. We also wanted to gain knowledge on how the surrounding development may affect the organizations' human resources departments.

To find this out, we used a qualitative research method. First, we began by gathering theory to then conduct interviews with five informants who in any way had responsibility for the organization's staff. We have worked based on a hermeneutic approach, this because we felt that the approach worked best when we carried out the interpretation and analysis of our empirical data.

After we have interpreted the collected material from the theory and empirical data, we concluded that regardless of the size of the organization needed a person or a special department that takes care of and is responsible for personnel matters.

The results of the study show that the functions of HR-department forms look different and work differently depending on the size of the organization and the industry organization operates. All organizations does not use a dedicated HR-department, however, used the functions in different ways.

The conclusions we have drawn is that HR-functions are used on all the organizations we interviewed people from, but in different ways . Work with personnel issues will always be needed in organizations that have employees

How companies communicate their brand identity online: A quantitative study on Swedish and French companies2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this Bachelor’s Thesis Project in Business Administration is to investigate how companies communicate their company brand identity online. The writing of this paper has been motivated by a lack of researches regarding the companies’ dimension in term of identity communication and the brand identity promotion process online. This paper is based on a quantitative research on companies from French and Swedish. The research question is formulated as follows: How companies communicate their brand identity online through virtual media? In order to investigate the companies, a questionnaire was implemented and shared by an emailing process. This questionnaire, following a quantitative approach, has been constructed by combining several theories about the branding process, the brand identity concept, its keys concepts and also the online business landscape since the development of the Internet. According to our analysis, companies mainly share their brand identity online through two main vehicles, Website and Facebook. These media are the ones mainly used to share the three identity dimensions and to support the tools to communicate this company brand identity communication. By this analysis, deeper knowledge was created in order to provide useful data for future analysis.

Generation X och Y:s syn på ledarstilar2016Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Population numbers in Sweden are increasing and thus also the need for elderly care. Municipalities find it hard to recruit new employees. The Swedish municipalities and county councils (SKL) have, in order to secure the supply of staff, published nine different strategies that they recommend to municipalities and county councils to use.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how strategic recruitment in elderly care is applied in municipal organizations.

Method: In order to achieve this purpose, a qualitative approach has been used. This choice was made because the study focuses on gaining insight into and understanding of how municipalities work with strategic recruitment.

Results: Half of the municipalities know or have heard of SKL's nine recommendations. However, there were only two who deliberately use some of these.

Conclusion: Only two out of ten municipalities use SKL's recommendations, but several do it unconsciously. There were also other strategies that the municipalities use.

Outsourcing av rekrytering2014Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Intern kommunikation2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The study title is "internal communication" and is written by the authors Maria Granath and Viktor Wigerdt. The authors take the course degree in business administration at University West, the spring semester of 2016. The study examines the problem area internal communication within organizations and the factors that influence this phenomenon. The study aims to examine the factors that are important for a functioning internal communication. The paper also hopes to interest other organizations that want and need to develop their internal communication. The authors have investigated the problem area using a hermeneutic approach in order to identify, interpret and understand the internal communication based on the employees' perspective. This has been carried out with a qualitative approach because the empirical data collection consists of own observations and interviews. Data collection also consists of scientific research, where theories are presented under the headings of communication, internal communication in organizations, organizational culture and leadership.

The interviews have been conducted with the help of five respondents from company X, where everyone is treated with the same interview guide and questions. In the study the analysis and discussion chapter discuss the theoretical framework in relation to the empirical data collection in terms of the study's research questions. The study's conclusion is that organizational culture with a clear leadership and a strong commitment from employees, are the three factors that are essential for a functioning internal communication. The conclusion is also that employees in the selected company currently lack some development of communication channels such as the intranet. The recommendations for company X is to draw up an action plan for their communication channels and the needs of the employees. There should also be guidelines for how employees in different job roles deal with communicative processes and daily problems.

    Abstract [en]

Abstract: New technologies have always teased the imagination of avant-garde artists on how to challenge existing cultural paradigms. For instance, experience design for the creative industries of today provides exciting challenges with a potential to innovate practices and creating new ways of interaction between the artist and her audience. In an ongoing research project we aim at framing the design space for virtual experiences. The paper presents and discusses the role of technology in such context and use three ongoing case studies where ICT has been used to augment and support consumers of cultural experiences. The analysis shows how technology-driven interventions are less oriented towards radical change compared to interventions that are rooted in their nondigital origins. 1.

    Abstract [sv]

Framgångsrika strategier för startups: utifrån olika perspektiv2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to contribute with knowledge and suggestions on how a successful strategy for a startup can be designed from different perspectives. A startup can be seen as a temporary organization designed to create a sustain and scalable business model. At the same time, there are few startups that manage to survive and become successful. Startups survival may depend on a successful strategy that can be designed from different perspectives. Four basic perspectives for strategy are the base for the themes in the studie. These are strategy as plan, strategy as position, strategy as process and strategy as system. The study is of qualitative research method, to answer the two research questions; What are the success factors in strategy for startups? and "How can a successful strategy for a startup be designed from different perspectives?". The research consists of four semistructured interviews with founders of four different newly started or previous startup companies. The theory presents concepts and models for the different perspectives. The study's conclusions shows that strategic success factors for startups are differentiation and positioning, sales, testing and development of the concept in a process and building networks, relationships and culture. Through a process of these success factors, a successful startup strategy can be designed.

Monetära belöningssystem och dess effekter2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Monetary reward systems are common in organisations and are usually implemented to increase motivation amongst the employed. The goal is to have an impact on the performance, but there may be other effects that are not considered.

The purpose of the study is to create knowledge and a deeper understanding of the effects of monetary reward systems in the working life and how monetary reward systems affect the performance.

The theoretical frame of reference was composed of previous studies on monetary reward systems and various motivational theories, such as Maslow's hierarchy of needs and Vroom's expectancy theory. In order to collect data, semi-structured interviews have been conducted with eight informants. The selection was based on a few criteria where the criteria were that the informant would work at a workplace where they had a monetary reward system that either was based on the individual or group performances or both the individual and the group performances.

The study's results show that the perception of the monetary reward system is affected primarily by how financially secure the person feels. It shows that there are positive effects like increased motivation, but that there are also negative effects in terms of reduced motivation in some cases. The study also shows that in some cases the monetary reward system also contributes to stress, concern, fear of failure and a deterioration in the quality of tasks that are not included in the monetary reward system. In some cases, the result also shows that the cooperation and communication suffer when using a reward system that targets the individual's performance, while in other cases the cooperation and communication of the reward system that is based on the individual's performance is not affected.

We have concluded that monetary reward systems have both positive and negative effects and affect both performances positively and negatively and that it depends primarily on how financially secure the person feels. Organizations need to take this into account when implementing a monetary reward system, so that the reward system correspond with the organisation's interest

HRM ur ett medarbetarperspektiv: En kvalitativ fallstudie i offentlig sektor2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Human resource management is a concept that is developed from personnel administration and HR to HRM, and then also to strategic HRM with the focus on the employees in an organization to contribute to its success. HRM, where two keywords is participation and motivation is a debated concept and recognized for many companies today, does not mean that employees have the same view that managers has. As the research of the perspective from the receiving part, that employee are not as extensive as the organizations' performance in relation to HRM, this generates a curiosity about how employees experience the term.

The last 30-40 years, participation is a concept that has become more interesting and talked about, and it is also said to increase the motivation amongst the employees. The fact that participation increases motivation makes the employees more engaged and satisfied in their jobs. A sense of affirmation and psychological empowerment can be promoted by the employee with the help of the fact that they get to be involved. If an employee gets feedback from both the work itself and from the managers, this means that the staff is informed about the results of their work, which also leads to increased motivation and satisfaction.

The study was conducted as a qualitative case study, based on a hermeneutic approach, with nine interviews in two departments within the public organization, Västra Götalands regionen. The study aims to give a better understanding of how the process of HRM perceived by staff at the tip of the organization tree. It also aims to increase knowledge of how participation and motivation are perceived at this level in a large public organization.

Through our interviews, we found that the staff at the two studied sections does not feel that the organization is working with HRM. They don’t feel involved to the extent they would like, to be motivated in their work. We will in our study concludes that HRM is perceived as it is on a higher level but does not reach all the way to the lowest division. Another conclusion is that participation perceived as the staff will be seen, that they have their say and express their opinions before decisions are taken and that motivation is perceived as the staff are more dedicated and satisfied at work and for the work they do.

    Abstract [sv]

Hållbart ledarskap: ekonomistyrning utifrån psykosocial arbetsmiljö i skolverksamhet2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Operations are controlled by financials, which also may be based on coworkers. Leader's decisions daily affect intangible assets such as staff motivation and professional skills development. Long-term sustainability is a hot topic, and can benefit a business. The concept of sustainability includes, for example, long-term safeguarding of human resources, also leaders. New legislation has expanded employer's responsibility for psychosocial work environment, and thus has emerged that the leader's empowerment and own psychosocial work is less illuminated. A qualitative study using in-depth interviews was conducted in order to contribute to increased knowledge of the subject human capital and intellectual capital, on basis of sustainable leadership.

Research question was: Can operations intellectual and human capital be strengthened based on leaders psychosocial work environment, and if so, how? Respondents were fourteen high school principals, which in empirical material gave personal experience of own work and self-rated psychosocial health. The study's empirical data, theory and analysis has highlighted four themes: leadership, strategy and structure, leadership and change, leadership and economic governance on the basis of teamwork, leadership, and organizational sustainability.

Result showed that activity by influencing culture can be given greater access to information and knowledge. Also various forms of support were seen to strengthen, for example in form of self-reflection about psychosocial work environment, as well as enhanced tools to manage everyday life. Mentoring, tutoring in groups, and collaborative leadership were also seen strengthen intangible assets, and motivation. Changed management, communication channels and meeting structure, could free up time and resources to work with communication and collaboration for knowledge sharing. This was considered promote motivation and productivity, and strengthen knowledge. The study showed that intangible assets and goodwill could be strengthened on basis of leaders' psychosocial health. The findings were also seen transferable to other areas of activity.

Ledarskap & Motivation: Att kunna förhindra dolda kostnader2014Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Purpose The paper aimed to review the Company X problems regarding hidden costs that arise in exceptional working from employees. We wanted to see what the theorists felt could introduce the company to increase the motivation of the workers and how this could be adapted within Company X. We also wanted to examine the leadership exerted within the enterprise in order to deduce whether this was a contributing factor to the hidden costs. 3

Method This paper is made based on a qualitative approach where we performed obtaining data through interview and survey questions and paired it together with relevant theory.

Theory In the theoretical part, we focused on the theory of motivation, leadership, rewards and conversations, this is obtained through the relevant literature and scientific articles.

Empiricism To obtain information on how the employees and the manager looks at the different ratios we have decided to conduct an interview with the manager and an anonymous survey among the employees.

Analysis / Conclusion In our results, it appears that Company X employees deviate fifteen minutes earlier than the exposed working hours, allowing them to present an extended work process and thereby creating a hidden cost of 180,040 per calendar year. The leadership of the company is also a lack of which we believe can be developed through clearer leadership. Motivation of the employees weaknesses and we believe the company should invest in a reward system where rewards are distributed through joint arrangements but not through cash payments

    Abstract [en]

Sweden is one of the world's most equal countries. Nevertheless, women are strongly underrepresented in managerial positions in the private sector. There is a gender division in society that is deeply historically rooted in clear notions of what is feminine and masculine.

The study has been established in order to investigate the women's presentation in the industrial sector. Furthermore, it has intended to identify reasons why women are under-represented in managerial positions.

We chose to investigate the area on the base on several themes which are; gender and characteristics, homosociality, family and household, glass roof and stereotypical performances. These themes are constantly used throughout the study, therefore they return several times in the report. The interview guide has also been based on the previously mentioned themes, which have been the basis of the chapter where our empirical data is presented.

The empirical material is collected through interviews where three female and two male managers and a female HR employee have been able to contribute thoughts and opinions about the reasons why women are underrepresented at managerial level. By comparing the theoretical frame of reference and empiricism, conclusions were drawn regarding the reasons why women are underrepresented at managerial level.

The conclusion was that there is not only one reason for the skewed distribution of gender in managerial positions, the causes being multiple and arising from a combination. One of the reasons is that traditions and stereotypical notions characterize society. Traditions of which professional groups are considered suitable for men and women also exist and contribute to fewer women choosing to study what is demanded by the Industrial Company.

Another conclusion that was drawn was that recruitment and the people involved in the recruitment process have a major impact. Several of the respondents in our study showed homosocial behavior, which is to the advantage of men as more men than women possess managerial positions. Furthermore, there are notions that women are more suitable to take responsibility for family and household, which means that the predominant responsibility for children and family is traditionally associated with the female sex. Other reasons we could identify were stereotypical notions of characteristics linked to gender. These causes create glass roofs, which is why women are underrepresented at managerial level.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The prerequisites for successfully implementing organizational changes depend on the organization and on the human factor that is the organization's employees. Previous research in the field highlights that contradictions to organizational changes are one of the main reasons why the change fails to be implemented. The purpose of this paper was to show aspects that could be obstacles and / or success factors for organizational changes from an employee perspective. More knowledge is needed about organizational changes in the public sector, specifically from an employee perspective, as employees' reactions to change are crucial for a successful change. Current research is related to an empirical study to develop alternatively draw conclusions about existing research. Public organizations are characterized by rigid hierarchical structures where the employee is not involved, which in this study was validated. The empirical study of organizational changes in a public organization shows that organizational changes often get a negative tone within organizations. In this case, employees felt excluded from the change, which resulted in resistance and negative reactions to the change, such as anxiety, stress and the intention to leave the organization. The conclusion I have drawn is that the bureaucratic organizational form can make organizational changes in the public sector difficult. Furthermore, shortcomings in communication, leadership and lack of participation have led to negative attitudes towards the change both on an individual and collective level.

Behavior of Swedes towards Milk Substitute Products2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

These days, milk substitute products are getting more popular and exist together with milk on the market. These substitute products are appreciated by consumers due to animal welfare, environmental or health related reasons. The purpose of the investigation was to make assumptions about the future situation of farmers and which demographic, personal, sociological, cultural and psychological determinants have an impact on Swedish consumers purchasing substitute products. The proposed methodology to reveal the impact of those factors was a qualitative research. Ten semi-structured interviews with residents of Västra Götaland, aimed to gain a deeper and better understanding of the reasons for consumption of milk substitute products, were conducted in total. The existing theory and scientific articles about demographic, personal, sociological, cultural and psychological determinants of consumer behavior, in terms of food choice and consumption, were used to create an interview guide and also to compare the collected primary data in the end. Participants were asked questions regarding their demography, lifestyle, awareness and perception of milk substitute products and other reasons for their consumption of milk substitutes. The findings revealed that demographic factors such as age and gender seemed to have an impact on the consumer behavior. Moreover, personal and psychological factors were revealed to have a significant impact on the consumption behavior. In particular lifestyle, perception, attitudes and motivations, knowledge and learning had a significant influence on Swedish consumers and their food consumption behavior. Regarding sociological factors it was discovered that friends had a significant influence on food consumption. Cultural determinants were also important to consider. However, they did not have a significant influence on the participants. The findings also revealed that health and animal welfare were the main reasons for changing the consumption. Interestingly, no participant started to consume these products due to environmental reasons in the beginning. The strong competition of milk and milk substitute products on the market is most likely to continue. The future situation for farmers will look different and might get more critical as milk consumption in Sweden could change. This small scale research does not make it possible to generalize the revealed findings. Nevertheless, this qualitative investigation provided the basis for future research in the field of consumer behavior towards substitute products.

Ledarskap och vision i skolan: En lärande organisation? En fallstudie från friskolevärlden2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this case study was to examine how the leadership of principals within a selected secondary school affected the vision process and the ability to create a learning organization. To investigate this, three research questions were asked: Which type of leadership that was used by the principals? Have the principals worked with a clear vision? Can one, based on the principals' responses, talk about a learning organization?

In the case study, interviews have been used to obtain answers to the three research questions. The questions were put to six principals who, at various times during the period 2003-2014, worked at the examined independent school. The survey was conducted using a qualitative approach and a mixture of an inductive and deductive approach - called abduction.

The results have shown deficiencies in the visionary leadership of principals. The principals have in the interviews described a leadership that pointed towards a transactional leadership, although their desire was to lead the school from a transformational leadership. There were hints of a learning organization, but the processes that suggested organizational learning was difficult to get to, since the organization and employees have not clearly been guided in that this has been important. The principals' management of the organization has to some extent been made through employees, but there has been no clear connection to the characteristics of a learning organization where employees are talking to each other and are driven by visions that points to a clear direction. The study has mainly shown that the vision and the ability to discuss their own learning has not been prioritized.

Furthermore, the case study showed that various demands from top managers but also from the employees contributed to the visionary work has been overlooked in favour of a more transactional leadership, where the budgetary tool emerged as important, especially by later principals. The case study has shown that when the principals tried to steer, usually it happened from a contemporary perspective, where acute events and structural problems needed to be resolved.

The study can also be seen in a wider context than this single case study. Principals difficulties in leading visionary can be traced to an excessive workload and an excessive focus on the financial and performance management instead of thinking about which school they want to create in the future. The lack of vision in favour of the budget is what this study has shown

    Abstract [en]

The big difference between the housing in the private and public sector is the ownership. In the private sector both owners and shareholders have a direct monetary interest. Previous studies show that managers are likely to benefit from the private organizations when they develop a better profitability and better performance, either because they themselves own shares in the company or because their salary is linked to economic success. In contrast to this, ownership of the public sector is perceived to be diffuse and vague. Citizens monitoring of the public corporations is a "public service", but individual constituents have little to gain from the public sector. In addition, managers usually do not receive any direct economic advantages when the organization increases its efficiency in the public sector.'

The purpose of this study was to gain knowledge about the type of management accounting that prevails in leading housing corporations, both public and private, in a Swedish conurbation. The research questions that were answered were: What similarities and differences are there in management accounting between the public and private sectors of the leading housing corporations in a Swedish conurbation? The study has been based on a qualitative approach, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with respondents from six different housing corporations in a Swedish conurbation. Three of them were from the public sector and three from the private. Management accounting is divided into a traditional and a modern view. The traditional is characterized by centralized organizations with financial objectives and instruments, e.g. budget. Whereas the modern view is an advocate for a decentralized organizational structure, with mainly non-financial targets in combination with certain traditional control techniques. The housing corporations are governed by both financial and non-financial goals. It has been proved in the study that there are both differences and similarities in the management accounting applied by private and public housing corporations. The similarities mainly lies in the dissemination of information where both the private and public housing corporations are pursuing a flow of information which notifies employees the information they need. The differences lie mainly in the organizational structure where the private corporations work through a decentralized organization, while public corporations works more hierarchical and centralized.

Hållbarhetsinformationens påverkan vid aktieplaceringar: En undersökning bland svenska privata aktiesparare2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The background to this study comes from fact that companies today are regarded, not only by their financial performance, but also from their undertaking in social and envi-ronmental responsibilities. Corporate stakeholders have been recognized to put a greater pressure on the companies to make them account for their standpoint in environmental and ethical questions within their business. It seems that, however, not all markets have followed this development and one of those that exemplify this is the financial market. It is argued that private investors do not possess sufficient knowledge of the finance market to challenge the corporate approach to sustainability. The purpose of this study was there-fore to describe and explain the Swedish private equity savers’ attitude towards and use of sustainability information on equity investments. To achieve this, the usage of and attitudes towards sustainability information is set in relation to underlying factors such as gender, age, risk and investment horizon. These factors will thus be the basis for the the-oretical sections which trough deduction then results in the hypotheses that were tested. Empirical data were collected through a quantitative method in the form of a web survey and was then analyzed statistically to find significant correlations. The results showed that the majority of respondents were young men. Most of the participants considered themselves to take relatively high risk in their equity investments and that they keep their shares for at least one year. The analysis showed that a majority of the respondents had a positive attitude towards sustainability information and that they used this kind of infor-mation when making investment decisions. The authors of the study concluded that it was the economic benefits of sustainability information, rather than ethical preferences, which made this information attractive to equity investors. The four underlying factors that were examined could not be statistically proven to have any effect on the use of sustainability information in an investment decision

Goodwill – positiv eller negativ indikation förinvesterare?: En studie om bolag på Nasdaq OMX Nordic Stockholm, om goodwill i förhållande till totala tillgångar påverkar aktieägares avkastning2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In 2005 a new accounting rule, IFRS 3, was introduced. The impact of the regulatory framework created a space for the possibility of subjective judgments on the goodwill valuation. Companies are no longer forced to write off goodwill, instead they have the opportunity to have a constant amount of goodwill even though the valuation is not the consistent with the market value. Goodwill could be described as a valuation of future cash flows, but how well does a goodwill consist with the future returns to stockholders in view of the subjective judgments? It leads us to the question how much impact a company's goodwill has on its total return. There are theories that describe that there is a positive correlation between a company's goodwill and its return. There are also theories that highlight the problems about the valuation of goodwill. Goodwill affects total assets and therefore may have an impact on a company's return. The relationship between goodwill and total return has been analyzed by regressions analysis. The study includes companies listed on Large and Mid Cap on Nasdaq OMX Nordic Stockholm. The result can not improve a correlation between goodwill and total assets. Companies with a high proportion of goodwill has not a higher return than companies with a low proportion of goodwill.

    Abstract [sv]

The experience room is a place where meetings take place between individuals, but also a place where consumers are affected and involved physically and emotionally. Within the experience room there are various factors that influence the customer's purchasing decisions and experience, which the study aimed to investigate. The factors investigated were atmospheric conditions, spaces and functionality, signs, symbols and artifacts, staff and other customers. The purpose of the survey was to investigate how retailers work with the design of the experience room, in order to influence the customers in their purchase and experience, as well as the potential for improvement. With a qualitative approach based on interviews and an observation, the authors could draw conclusions in connection with the theoretical basis that was created. The study's findings demonstrated how the design of the experience room could affect customer's experiences and buying decisions, both positively and negatively, depending on the different factors. At the same time, the authors suggested improvements for the selected business, in order to further influence purchasing decisions and customer experience.

    Abstract [sv]

Mångfald i arbetslivet: En kvalitativ studie av hur mångfald definieras och upplevs hos personalchefer i Västsvenska företag2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study has its background in the fact that diversity is a constantly relevant subject in working life. However, we see that it is currently more relevant due to increased globalization and migration in recent years. Which means that a diverse workforce is something that companies must relate to in one way or another. How diversity is valued plays a major role in how companies work with these issues, which in turn affects any positive effects that diversity may cause. The purpose of this paper is to investigate diversity in working life. How the concept of diversity is defined and perceived by staff managers in West Sweden companies. But also how they feel that diversity in working life is related to opportunities and potential problems. This perspective will contribute to increased knowledge about the difficulties of diversity work and how equal rights in working life can be improved. Based on a qualitative approach, interviews were held with 8 people, each of which has the position of Human Resources Manager in various Western Swedish companies. Through a thematic analysis, our empirical data that consisted of interview material could be investigated, the relationship with previous research was discussed. Our conclusion is that the concept of diversity is complex and can not be clearly defined. However, we see a trend that the definition is based on the discrimination grounds of Sweden's discrimination law. However, we believe it is important for companies to reflect on the concept to allow for a possible diversity work, which is something we see in this survey that companies largely do not perform due to different causes. The opportunities that diversity add to include improved group dynamics, increased well-being and innovation, and it contributes to an improved "image" for organizations. Diversity also gives rise to some problems in the form of conflicts, resistance and additional work for management.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Sparsely populated municipalities (rural areas) in Sweden have poor growth, and many residents choose to move to larger cities. At the same time rural municipalities receive a higher proportion of new immigrants per capita than larger cities do, which could potentially be a major asset to the rural municipalities were these people to choose to stay in the county. One way to get them to want to stay may be the possibility to work in the municipality. This study aims to describe how the recruitment process is carried out in organizations in rural municipalities. Further, it is also examined how organizations' recruitment processes can promote or prevent new immigrants from getting jobs, as well as what it may be due to and what can be changed to help newcomers get jobs and integrate into society.

Research shows that new immigrants often encounter problems and resistance when searching for jobs in the new country, and that the recruitment methods that organizations use can promote or reduce new immigrants' chances of getting a job. Furthermore, research also shows that small organizations to a greater extent than larger organizations use the type of recruitment practices that exclude new immigrants from the labor market. At the same time, diversity is promoted as a positive and desirable aspect within organizations, and is seen as something that benefits the entire organization if handled properly.

The four organizations examined in this study were generally positive regarding contributing to the integration of new immigrants in the form of recruitment of this group. They saw several positive advantages to recruiting new immigrants, and any problems that could arise were considered solvable by simple means, such as communication. We conclude however, that the organizations mainly use informal recruitment methods, making it difficult for new immigrants to establish themselves in the labor market. Our conclusion is that organizations can help with integration by adapting their recruitment practices so that more people, both new immigrants and other groups, have a greater chance of getting a job. Furthermore, organizations can benefit from the recruitment of new immigrants since it increases the diversity in the organizations which can bring about many positive effects.

Mångfaldsarbete i kommuner: Hur arbetar Uddevallas, Vänersborgs och Trollhättans kommuner med mångfald?2014Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Internkontroll i praktiken: En fallstudie inomutbildningsförvaltningen i Lysekils kommun2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Several scandals have in recent decades been discovered in the municipal sector due to the lack of internal controls.

Since a municipality is financed by taxes it requires openness to local residents about how money is spent and that they comply with laws and regulations. The internal control system thus plays an important role as they ensure that resources are used in the best way possible and to prevent errors occurring. The purpose of this study was therefore to determine how municipal activities dealing with internal controls and identify areas for improvement.

This study has been conducted with a qualitative approach which forms the basis of the examination method. To get a nuanced and in-depth picture of the municipality's internal control, six interviews were conducted with employees of the education administration. Empirical evidence has been analyzed based on research on internal control and, from an institutional perspective. The results showed that the internal control had major shortcomings in municipal management particularly of the structure, responsibilities and communication. Moreover, it emerged major shortcomings in the support function, the IT unit. However we found a relatively well-functioning work with internal control at the operational level that showed basic structure, established routines and a clear division of responsibility between employees. The results also showed a recent work to systematically assure the quality of the operational work in the work environments in the education administration.

In order for the municipality to develop a better system for internal control that includes the entire organization, they need to first of all identify the internal processes where allocation of responsibilities is identified. In addition, the municipality must become better at communicating between municipal, support functions and activities.

Samspel mellan nationell- och organisationskultur: En kvalitativ studie av IKEA:s etablering i Ryssland2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Syfte

    Abstract [en]

Within the public sector great change efforts are currently made to meet future challenges. In the area of health care, change initiatives are implemented to enhance quality and efficiency. To this end, a lean change programme is being widely introduced in Sweden as well as internationally. The overriding aim of this study is to increase knowledge of what happens when change programmes, CP, such as lean are implemented in a healthcare organisation, HCO.Previous research has shown that the main obstacle to implementing CP in HCO:s is their complexity. However, the complexity has often been reduced, as different factors such as management, professions, organisation and control have been studied separately. To fully capture the complexity of the HCO the Actor Network Theory, ANT, was used in this study. In line with ANT, introducing lean can be described in terms of a translation process in which human and non-human actors are woven into a network. This approach allows for the incorporation of various factors in the study of a change process in a complex organisation. Drawing on ANT, this thesis explores how network constructions enable or impede change programmes. The approach is based on ethnographic monitoring of the implementation of lean in the Värmland county council public healthcare organisation. As a result of the holistic perspective, the study provides detailed descriptions of how complexity impacts on the implementation. It displays the relations enabling or impeding the implementation of CP and the methods actors use to establish and defend the relations. The contribution of the study is threefold. Empirically, the study monitors a HCO aiming to implement full-scale lean as philosophy, principle and tool. Methodologically, the study evaluates ANT as a methodological theory to study CP in a HCO. Finally, the domain-specific contribution of the study is its identification of the relations and methods that impact on lean deployment.

Lean och processer i hälso- och sjukvården2019Book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

The use of online communication in Innovatum Science Center2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The throughout use of online communication these days provides a challenge for many businesses. The cultural sector, being not only a business because of providing cultural heritage and knowledge, is forced to deal with the changes in communication as well. The traditional museums have developed and the so-called interactive museums complement the range of activities in the cultural sector. The interactive museums let visitors be a part of the visit by providing them experiences to discover by themselves. Mostly designed for children who can learn science by playing. This study provides a case of such an interactive museum: Innovatum Science Center is located in Trollhättan, Sweden. They face the problem that they started to work more with their online communication but did not receive any feedback from their visitors if they use it in the right way and if the visitors are reached by it. To investigate the use and reach of their online communication a qualitative study is performed. The web manager and the visitors of Innovatum Science Center were interviewed to gain an overall insight in the online communication. In addition, the webpage and the social media platforms were analysed. This results were used to make categories and themes to provide Innovatum Science Center the possibility to base their further usage on the suggestions made of it. This results can be used to improve the existing online communication of the other science centers in Sweden as well. Especially those located in the region Västra Götaland could take advantage for their online communication.

To be able to engage their visitors in the online communication, they have to first reach their prospects. The next step is attracting them in order to gain visitors and also followers of their different online platforms. In the case of Innovatum Science Center it is found out that the visitors are not connected to the Science Center and therefore, also not reached by their messages sent via their online communication. The existing messages sent through the various online platforms are updated and informative which built a solid foundation for their online communication. To overcome the problem occurred of not reaching their visitors, different suggestions are made based on the new knowledge gained. For example the first step should be to make the visitors aware of Innovatum Science Center itself by providing more information about their different online platforms. Furthermore, they could connect their online presence with the visit in Innovatum Science Center and provide riddles or different contests to interact with them.

Organisationer i förändring: Hur upplever personal och ledning en förändringsprocess?2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

There are numerous factors that contribute to changes. According to O´Brien (2002) govern-ment agencies can introduce change programs in order to make an organization more efficient. External factors and internal factors can also contribute to change. Staff members that are included in a change processes are affected in different ways, some positive and others negative. In his book Angelöw (1991) describes that individuals evolve both personally and professionally during change.

We have studied the change process that took place on a organization that belongs to a public sector. Both the employees and management were interviewed regarding the change that took place. Change that is based on participation, safety and information are seen as positive and are welcomed by employees. Theoretically it can be easy to claim that the flow of information is good and working but is it really that way practically? With this study we want to examine if participation occur in change processes and how individuals react to the change.

We have in our study taken a qualitative approach and implemented semi-structured interviews when interviewing the staff and the management. It was very important that the interview subjects that were chosen were from different hierarchic positions so that we could get a complete overview of the experience. The result of the study shows that the change that took place was a success but the participation from the employee side wasn't that great because the change was controlled by the top hierarchic positions and only required commitment and support from the employees

Sociala mediers påverkan på marknadsföring inom detaljhandeln: Har svenska företag skrivit sin sista reklamannons i dagstidningen eller sänt sin sista Tv-reklam?2014Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Mellanchefens roll2015Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Benchmarking i offentlig verksamhet: Koppling mellan ranking och förbättringsarbete2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Benchmarking is a well-utilized management tool that aims to create development opportunities and achieve better results. It is used in both private and public sectors. The use of benchmarking has increased in the public sector and thus requires more research in this area. Swedish local governments are compared in different ranking lists to create comparisons that can contribute to their development. However, it has been found that the information that ranking lists are providing is not being used to a great extent to complete process comparisons and achieve better performance. The purpose of our study was to increase the understanding of the relationship between ranking and performance improvement in the public sector. A qualitative study with unstructured interviews of heads of administration in the field of child and education management in three smaller local governments, examined the relationship between the ranking list produced by Lärarförbundet and the managements´ performance improvement was investigated. The study shows a confirmation of previous observations that information such as ranking lists does not come to full use and thus does not always lead to process comparisons that can improve the position in the next year's ranking list. The ranking list provided by Lärarförbundet is not perceived entirely accurate, and this is the main reason why the information provided by the ranking list does not always come into use in the managements´ performance improvement. A limitation with our study is that we only focused on the ranking list of Lärarförbundet and that the local governments that chose to participate in our study are classified as smaller local governments. The result could have been different if we had a different ranking list or included more ranking lists, and if more local governments were studied.
