    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Deliberate self-harm are a growing problem among young people in Sweden. It's not only the child that suffers from the behaviour, even the whole family. Parent´s need the right support from the healthcare staff for their own wellbeing, but also to be able to give good support for their child. Par-ent´s experiences are of importance for the nurse in the healthcare of the child and their families. The aim of this study was to describe parent´s experiences of living with a child with a deliberate self-harm behavior. In this literature study ten qualitative articles were analyzed using the method of Friberg (2012). Eight articles were found by a systematic search and two articles were found in an unsystematic search. This study showed four main themes and ten subthemes. Main themes were parent´s experience of support, parent´s experience of different feelings, parent´s experience of fam-ily relations and parent´s experience of parenting. Subthemes were to experience lack of support from healthcare staff, to need support from the environment, to feel guilt and shame, to feel concern and fear, to experience chock, to communicate with their child, to experience a different relation-ship in the family, to maintain trust in the relationship between parent and child, wanting to protect their child, to feel unsecure in their parenting. Conclusion were that parent´s need better support from the healthcare staff and from others in their environment. Nurses need more knowledge about parent´s experiences to be able to understand their needs and to be able to support them.

    Abstract [en]

In collaboration with Binar Quick-Lift Systems AB, a product development project has been carried out at the University West in Trollhättan. Binar Quick-Lift Systems AB manufactures and develops lifting solutions for loads up to 300 kg and is an affiliate of the Binary Group, where operations are conducted in two primary areas: Industrial Solutions and First Responder Technology.

The vision for most companies is to develop and given the current trend of the Internet of Things, Binar wanted to see how a wireless communication solution can integrate with the company's existing lifting solutions. The goal of this mission was to establish a requirement specification and a business model for wireless diagnostics of their lifting solution, based on customer needs and the company's basic requirements.

The introduction of the project consisted of a preliminary study which included information gathering and interviews with stakeholders and experts. A market investigation was performed in parallel with the interviews where a function and competitor analysis were conducted to obtain relevant customer data as well as an understanding of the market. The requirement specification was established using collected information in the preliminary study and the business model was generated from the preliminary study as well as the customer and base requirements.

The result was a requirement specification with mainly subjective requirements as well as a business model with a basic contract offer for the sale of the wireless solution.

Hushållens konsumtion: En kvantitativ studie om makroekonomiska faktorer som påverkar hushållens konsumtion i Sverige2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The consumption of Swedish households represents two-thirds of Sweden's total GDPgrowth and can therefore be seen as the engine in the Swedish economy. Changes in consumption can therefore be of great importance to the country's economy and are important to analyze. The purpose of this study is to analyze how macroeconomic variables affect the consumption of Swedish households. The macroeconomic variables that will be investigated are: disposable income, inflation, interest rate, and wealth, consisting of financial and real assets. In order to facilitate understanding of the consumption behavior households, the most well-known consumption theories will form the basis of the study, which are: Keynes Consumption Theory, Life Cycle Hypothesis and the Permanent Income Hypothesis. A quantitative study is performed which means that the relationship between selected variables will be examined by the time period from 1986 to 2017 by an econometric model. Based on previous research and collected data sets, an Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (ADL). The results of the study indicate that there is a relationship between changes in consumption and changes in the explanatory variables disposable income, inflation and housing wealth. The impact of the the variables on consumption over time is very difficult to identify because of lack of significance in the time lags.

Flerdimensionell styrning inom offentlig sektor: Effekter på chefers motivation2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

One method to ease the implementation of strategy and improve performance which has come to grow strong in the public sector is contemporary performance measurement systems (CPM). CPM is a system which comprises the use of financial as well as nonfinancial performance measures. To have a motivating effect according to earlier studies CPM have to be in line with the basic targets of the organization, and the managers should have the possibility to affect the performance measures. performance measures also have to be challenging but still accessible. Earlier studies also indicate that performance measures which is linked to meaningful rewards, and a strong cause and effect relation between the financial and non-financial performance measures has a motivating effect. This study aims to examine how CPM affects managers motivation in the public sector. To do so a number of interviews has been held with managers in the public sector. The results of the study indicate that CPM has the possibility to increase managers motivation, and this could be connected to several factors. One factor which has the possibility to increase motivation is if the performance measures is connected to meaningful rewards. The results also indicate that CPM isn’t necessary to make the managers feel motivated cause they already have a sort of basic motivation, but CPM could contribute to increase motivation further. The reason for this motivation is that they get a confirmation of how good their performances are, and they get clear signals of what is expected of them. PM within a CPM could also motivate the managers to act in a way that is not always optimal for the organization. The competition in the municipal organizations can encourage manipulation of performance measures to get better results than competing organizations. Within the public sector there is also a risk that CPM motivates the managers to focus on performances which is measured, while performances which is not measured gets out of priority.

Erosion behaviour of suspension plasma sprayed thermal barrier coatings2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are applied on the surface of hot parts of gas turbine engines to increase the turbine efficiency by providing thermal insulation and also to protect the engine parts from the harsh environment. To maximize these benefits, the TBC must remain intact to the underlying metallic gas turbine components through the life of the gas turbine engines. Typical degradation of TBCs can be attributed to bond coat oxidation, thermal stress etc. In addition to this, erosion can also lead to partial or complete removal of the TBCs especially when the engine operates under erosive environment such as flying over desert area, near active volcanic or offshore ocean environment. Therefore, erosion is also acknowl-edged as a significant life-limiting factor for TBCs. Suspension plasma spray (SPS) is a rela-tively new technique capable of producing coatings with lamellar/vertically cracked and co-lumnar microstructures. Moreover, SPS is a cheaper process compared with Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition (EB-PVD) which is a well-known commercial technique to produce columnar TBCs. This work aims to study the effect of microstructure produced by SPS on the erosion performance of TBCs. Six different suspensions of 8 wt. % Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) ceramic powder with distinct suspension characteristics such as solid load, solvent type and particle size distribution were used to spray six different TBCs using an identical bond coat and substrate. The as-sprayed TBCs were subjected to an air jet erosion test at room temperature, and their erosion resistance was compared. It was found that the total porosity content in the coating was the most predominant factor influencing the erosion performance of the coatings. Moreover, vertically cracked coatings resulted in low total po-rosity which in turn lead to high erosion resistance. This result was also supported by one of the columnar coatings which had the lowest porosity and highest erosion resistance as com-pared to other columnar coatings. Therefore, it is recommended to produce a columnar coating with lower porosity content for SPS TBCs.

Work-based learning through negotiated projects: Exploring learning at the boundary2016In: Higher Education, Skills and Work-based Learning, ISSN 2042-3896, E-ISSN 2042-390X, Vol. 6, no 1, p. 2-19Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

More collaborative and open learning models are suggested as part of the paradigm shift in the way knowledge is produced, distributed and used. This paper aims to explore a work-based learning model, based on systemic negotiations between actors from the three parties: The academy, the industry and the students. The purpose is to investigate how teachers, supervisors and students value negotiated work-based learning as a boundary activity and to enhance the understanding of the learning potential at the boundary.

    Design/methodology/approach

Activity theory is used as a lens to analyse the results from a survey to the three stakeholder groups and interviews of students. The four learning mechanisms are used to explore learning at the boundary between the two activity systems.

    Findings

Diversity and mobility in education and work addressed by the notion of boundary crossing are associated with both challenges and a learning potential. There is a constant dynamic between structure and agency, where structure, the negotiated model, influence the individual agency. When gradually removing scaffolding students can as boundary crossers engage behaviourally, emotionally, and cognitively and have agency to handle contradictions at a local level. However, they did not seem to prioritize both systems equally but instead they were gradually socialised into the activity system of the industry.

    Originality/value

When work-based learning is framed by a negotiated partnership it can manage and customize inherent conflicts of interest and enhance individual learning opportunities at the boundary and can be conceptualized as an open learning practice.

Nio pedagogers uppfattningar av samlingen som fenomen2013Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Bakgrund

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine how school personnel have reacted in regard to their mental, physical, and social working environments one year after the Kronan School attack in Trollhättan. The study's results are based on semi-structured interviews with five staff members. The qualitative method of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (I.P.A) has been used to analyse the material. The results show which factors the staff members have considered to be the reasons for their recovery and setbacks when returning to work after the event. Five comprehensive themes presented themselves as being the most prominent after analysis. The comprehensive themes are based on the interviewees' experiences of social support, security, the lost meeting place, social strains, and mental processing. The results present how important the component's safety, security, and social support has been for the interviewees' processing of the traumatic event, as well as their return to work. The conclusion emphasises the interviewees' experience in a workgroup, where solidarity has developed and strengthened after experiencing crisis.

    Abstract [en]

There is always a need for easy-to-follow processes that enable accurate and non-time consuming solutions. Nowadays we see a lot of different approaches to development processes in software engineering. This project is concerned with how to manage a software development process in a reliable, secure and efficient way. Software is available which provides some help for project managers / administrators to work more productively, with effective communication. Using such systems, it is possible to keep track of all the phases of development, including task distribution, making maximum use of previous hands-on experience and increasing productivity, to deliver a finished product in minimum time. No existing solution, however, fulfills all the desirable criteria. This paper describes the motivation, design and implementation of an improved development management system using Active Server Pages and Microsoft Internet Information Services with a backend Microsoft Access Database developed using a waterfall software development process. The resulting system is described and evaluated. This system will be beneficial for software houses, because they can communicate on the web, allowing efficiency gains by avoiding the need to call meetings for distribution of tasks among employees, with the additional advantage of location-transparent team management through the Internet.

Ledarskap hos män och kvinnor: Har ledarskap ett genus?2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this study, we have chosen to study leadership in reference to the gender perspective, by studying earlier made researches on this subject and comparing it to the empirical part through interviews with leaders. The underlying interest in the chosen subject was highlighted when we compared the number of male leaders with women, through statistics. This showed that there is gender imbalance in the number of leadership positions. Therefore, we chose to investigate in this subject area from several aspects in order to create a vision of the underlying reason why male leaders possess more leadership positions than women. There are numbers of research on differences between male and female leadership, what distinguishes this report from the rest is that our main focus is on leadership in men and women to examine whether leadership has an underlying gender or not. This by studying leadership with regard to the gender perspective, where we emphasize gender equality, leadership, characteristics, power positions but also female and male leadership roles.

In this study, we are using a qualitative method through interviews. This is due to the fact that we consider this method as relevant for the report as we strive for deep and comprehensive data. Furthermore, we present previous research and theories in the form of scientific articles and dissertations under our theoretical frame of references. Themes that are highlighted in the theoretical part are leadership, leadership styles, male and female leadership, gender perspective on leadership and stereotypes. In addition to that we also present in the empirical part our collected data from the interviews that are conducted on six different managers, whereas three are men and three are women. There the respondents share their previous experiences and perceptions about the subject. After studying previous research and the responses from the interviewed leaders, we discuss in the analysis and interpretation part the theory and the empirical data. Through this, we compare, interpret and emphasise our own opinions about the chosen subject area. This will lead us to a result that can answer our research question.

After examining leaders' experiences and perceptions in relation to previous research, we conclude that leadership does not directly have an underlying gender. It turns out that leadership is based on personalities rather than gender, because it differs in characteristics, values and attitudes. This because we are different as individuals and we value differently. Furthermore, to strengthen this conclusion it has been presented that both male and female leaders use qualities that are classified as either masculine or feminine, with that said they use each other'squalities. However, we cannot deny that men for biological reasons have a body language and characteristics that creates the picture of male dominance in leadership, unlike females.

    Abstract [en]

Heart failure is one of the most common diagnoses in Swedish health care. Approximately 250 000 people in Sweden are estimated to have a heart failure and approximately 30 000 new patients are diagnosed every year. Heart failure is a serious illness with server symptoms and high mortality. The aim of this study was to illustrate patients with heart failures experiences of quality of life. The method that was used is a literature-based study of 12 qualitative articles that was based on their results. The included articles were published between 2003-2014. The majority of the participants were in the scale between NYHA-II-III. The result shows that patients with heart failure experienced symptom burden that limited their daily life. They described a constant struggle between the illness and the feeling of maintaining the roll they once had. The most important thing was to find strategies to maintain the quality in life and to have good spirit and positive thought. The result was presented in four themes: When the body sets limits, feelings taking over, captive in your own home and an uncertain future. The conclusion that can be drawn from the results of this study is that the experience of quality of life is highly individual and depends mostly on how the experience of the disease is being managed by the individual.

    Abstract [en]

In recent decades, the value of staff in terms of resources has gained increasing attention in staff-intensive companies. During the 1990s, a bill from the Work Environment Commission came about that all organizations should draw up a staff accounting report. But the bill was rejected because most organizations have already volunteered to introduce such accounts. This study shows if organizations use staff accounting and, if so, to what extent. The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of how the personnel-economic key figures in an enterprise's accounting affect the business and how the choice of certain staff key figures are determined. Staff key figures that are part of the staff report are highlighted through staff issues. By managing staff issues and maintaining communication between employees effectively, it has resulted in a good workplace environment for both employees' well-being and for the company's profitability.

The qualitative research effort of the study consists of previous research highlighting the importance of human resources and its accounting and its key figures. This is stretched by two interview surveys of the staff in two industry sectors. Based on the theoretical frame of reference and the collected empirical, four factors have been discussed in the analysis section, explaining why they use human resource accounting and key performance indicators. These four factors are organization, interest, skills and developed systems.

Sweden Democrats and Islamophobia: A qualitative study of how the Sweden Democrats construct Islam in their ideology2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis aims to describe and examine how the Sweden Democrats construct Islam and if there are any Islamophobic elements in their ideology. We have chosen to examine the Sweden Democrats from the period before the election in 2009, when they entered the Swedish parliament in 2010 up until 2017. The Sweden democrats have developed the way the party construct Islam in their rhetoric from the period before the party got elected and the period after. We found it interesting to further look at the period when the party explicitly criticized Islam and when it became implicit. In this way we shed a light on how the Sweden Democrats might have used the creation of fear of Islam in order to gain voters. However, the problem in our question is although to see how they construct Islam and if there are any Islamophobic elements in their ideology. Based on the ontology of social constructivism and theories connected to Islamophobia, a qualitative analysis will be conducted to describe the Islamophobic elements that might exist within the party. We will present a further explanation of the concepts in the theory chapter and will also be used in the conduction of an analysis of the party's ideology. The three main areas of interests which are religious, cultural and political differences will be connected to the definitions of Islamophobia and will be analyzed separately. By doing so, it became clear that the party developed their way of expressing concerns of immigration and assimilation of Muslims in Sweden. Our results show that the Sweden Democrats are not Islamophobic regarding all our main areas. Rather, the party has only shown clear Islamophobic elements in the area of cultural differences and problems that occurs with immigration of Muslims during the time before the election. These types of messages are hard to find within the party today.

Information Communication Technology or ICT and e-commerceare among those technologies that take the front line. This study asks the question ‘howmuch are Ethiopian small enterprises responsive to ICT and the internet and how much ofthe benefits have they utilized for their growth?’ It takes five small enterprises involved inimport and export business to perform case study research on the issue and examines theirutilization level of the technology. The findings show that small enterprises in the countryare on a very low level of utilizing ICT and e-commerce due to several reasons among whichare scarcity in infrastructure development and expertise in the area coupled with barriersfrom government policy and bank regulations.

    Abstract [en]

The rapid development of the cloud has contributed to a remarkable change within the IT industry. The outstanding functionality of using the cloud is the possibility to access data from a variety of sources regardless of its geographical location. Today different users around the world utilize the cloud, users from a broad range of businesses and backgrounds. However, there are also downsides to the cloud that might lead to severe negative consequences if not taken into consideration. This study identifies the security risks that could occur by using the cloud. These security risks have been identified and analyzed, in order to minimize them. Therefore, the aim of this study is to highlight the risks of using the cloud in order to minimize security risks and to achieve an increased security when using the cloud. The research question was answered using a scientific methodology based on the collection of qualitative data. The qualitative data was collected through interviews. More specifically, multiple interviewees from different suppliers in Sweden, all whom contributed with relevant information to this study. The result of this study shows that the amount of security risks is dependent on the supplier providing the cloud and the type of cloud infrastructure. Hence, the risks in the cloud could vary depending on which supplier that offers the service. Today it is almost impossible to eliminate the security risks that the cloud entails. However, this study shows that the potential to minimize these risks are found within the set agreement between supplier and customer, risks that both parties agree on are acceptable to the customer.

Daily life for young adults who care for a person with mental illness: A qualitative study2012In: Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, ISSN 1351-0126, E-ISSN 1365-2850, Vol. 19, no 7, p. 610-617Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study describes the daily life and management strategies of young informal carers of family members or friends with mental illness. Twelve young adults (three men and nine women; 16-25 years old) in Sweden were voluntarily recruited between February and May 2008. Data collected through eight individual semi-structured interviews and one focus group interview were analysed using qualitative content analysis. The findings revealed nine subthemes that were further grouped into three main themes: showing concern, providing support and using management strategies. Participants lived in constant readiness for something unexpected to happen to the person they cared for, and their role in the relationship could change quickly from family member or friend to guardian or supervisor. Supporting a friend was considered as large a personal responsibility as supporting a family member. Their management strategies were based on individual capacities and their ability to step aside should the situation become too demanding. These young informal carers need support in caring for the mentally ill. As the internet becomes increasingly fundamental to daily life, support could be provided most effectively through person-centred web sites. © 2011 Blackwell Publishing.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to explore how young (16-25 year old) informal carers of a person with a mental illness experience and use support. In a mixed method approach, we interviewed 12 young carers, and 241 completed a self-administered questionnaire. While the young carers strive to maintain control, their main support seems to be others in their lives, who often define the situation differently. The carers said web-support, counseling, and group counseling might be helpful, yet very few had any professional support. Young carers are greatly in need of support and it should be provided.

Offline constraint-based routing in OSPF networks: a server based study2007Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

Many of the network applications today are demanding QoS guaranteed paths which the best effort routing protocols e.g. OSPF cannot calculate, because these protocols are topology driven, do not address many of the constraints by these applications and only calculate shortest paths. In this thesis offline constraint based routing is studied for Open Shortest Path First (OSPFv2) protocol single area network and an offline server is proposed for QoS guaranteed routing. The server builds traffic engineering (TE) database and calculates QoS guaranteed paths on behalf of all the routers in that area. The client routers only do best effort routing for normal data flows with no requirement for QoS guaranteed paths. The client routers use NETCONF protocol to download QoS routes from the offline server (OS). The offline server besides calculating QoS paths also reduces congestion and helps in efficiently utilizing the network resources, for example bandwidth.

    Abstract [en]

    Background

In Sweden there are almost 1100 people per year who suffer from chronic renal failure. Chronic kidney disease is a serious and progressive disease that causes uremic symptoms. Without proper treatment, the disease can lead to death. The goal of haemodialysis treatment is to improve the patient's quality of life by preventing or alleviating uremic symptoms, as well as slowing down the deterioration of kidney function and possible complications and consequences of kidney failure. Living with haemodialysis involves major physical, psychological and social changes in the patient's life which causes suffering

    Aim

The aim of this study is to highlight patients' experiences of living with haemodialysis

    Method

A literature review was performed, based on eight qualitative articles. A content analysis was made according to Friberg's four steps

    Results

The results show three main themes and eight subthemes which describe the patient's experience of living with haemodialysis. Results show that patients experienced loss of freedom because of the bound and dependence they felt to haemodialysis and the competence of the hospital staff. The treatment also resulted in limitations on the patient's life, which resulted in changes in the physical, psychological and social aspects of the patient's life. To be able to handle the changes, the patients developed different strategies, such as finding strength and faith in religion and the family, and many patients hoped to get a kidney transplant.

    Conclusion

Nurses have continuous contact with patients in haemodialysis. These patients need physical, psychological, social and existential/ spiritual support. By knowledge and increased understanding of the patient's individual experience of their illness and treatment, the nurses may more easily relieve the patient's suffering, promote health and increase their well-being and create a good healthcare relationship.

Performance of Network Redundancy in SCTP: Introducing effect of different factors on Multi-homing2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The main purpose of designing the Stream Control Protocol (SCTP) was tooffer a robust transfer of traffic between the hosts over the networks. For this reasonSCTP multi-homing feature was designed, in which an SCTP sender can access destinationhost with multiple IP addresses in the same session. If the primary path between the sourceand the destination is down, the traffic may still be sent to the destination by utilizingredundant path. And SCTP multi-homing also supports for the concurrent multipathtransfer of traffic. This paper introduces the effect of different network factors likeconcurrent cross traffic, congestion control algorithms and SACK timers on multi -homingfeature of SCTP. Throughput and end-to-end packet delay were used as performancemetrics to introduce the effect of these factors. From the study it was introduced thatconcurrent cross traffic in the network behaves same on multi -homed interfaces and bothinterfaces were affected almost same. It was concluded that congestion control algorithmsalso affects on multi-homing, the RED congestion control algorithm reduced delay andimproved throughput of the SCTP multi-homing. In RFC4960 recommended SACK timeris 200ms, but when 100ms SACK timer was used with concurrent multipath transfer inSCTP (CMT-SCTP) multi-homing, the high throughput and low delay was achieved ascompared with 200ms and 300ms, which indicated that different SACK timers affects onmulti-homing feature of SCTP. All the simulation works have been conducted in NS2network simulator.

Work–integrated informal Learning (WiiL) Adopting Social Networking as Interdisciplinary Learning at Workplace2014Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Work Integrated Learning usually focuses on student's practical knowledge and learning duringthe education, while a student after completing the institutional period is still a student at workplace ass/he never stops learning. Learning within the organization is not only the formal training and educationof the employees, but also an informal process of sharing knowledge. The knowledge is often embedded in organizational activities, practices, and norms, as well as the social ties among the persons. The use of social networking site within the organization enables a new work integrated methodof learning and communication among the colleagues from different disciplines, encouraging both personal and professional informal knowledge sharing inside the organization. Our analysis ofemployee's behavior and acceptance of social networking as an informal way of learning was performed by a descriptive case survey research. The respondents providing the empirical data for survey consisted of 105 out of 180 targeted employees from a private IT organization in Pakistan. The questionnaire results present that the professionals use social networking sites to share their experiences and to build a virtual break in the hierarchical levels of the profession within the organization. Their motivation in using social networking includes sharing personal and professional experiences with co-workers and advancing their career. This paper illustrates the power of social networking as a Work Integrated Informal Learning (WIIL) tool that contributes significantly to increase the gain of interdisciplinary knowledge within the organization

    Abstract [en]

Learning within the organization is not only linked to the formal training and education of the employees, but also to informal processes of sharing knowledge. The knowledge is often embedded in organizational activities, practices and norms, as well as in social ties among individuals in the organization. We analyzed employees' behavior and acceptance of online social networking as an information system (IS) of learning. The analysis is performed by a descriptive case survey within a telecom corporation in Pakistan. The purpose of our study is to bring an informal learning system at workplace. In this study we obtain quantitative data from 105 out of 180 targeted employees. The results show that a majority of the studied employees favor social networking to connect colleagues at different levels and more than half of the respondents share their knowledge and experiences using social sites. Nearly half of the respondents strongly agree that knowledge sharing is an important role of social sites within the organization and many are in favor of social media as an informal learning system. The results also show how the professionals use social networking sites to share their experiences and to build a virtual break in hierarchical levels of professions. This paper illustrates the benefits of social networking sites as an informal work integrated learning tool that also serves as an IS model for the organization.

    Abstract [en]

Reward systems is a motivational tool applied by organizations to get employees to work in the same direction as the organization goals. It has become a challenge for organizations to create a reward system that motivates employees, because what motivates is highly personal and varies. The purpose of the study is to investigate how reward systems can contribute to motivation among employees, as well as how the most optimal mix of financial and nonfinancial reward looks. The study is based on what the employees within the chosen company have in view of the applied reward system in that company. By examining the reward system, it will provide in-depth knowledge about how the reward system works and how the employees perceive the reward system. The study is based on qualitative methods for obtaining a holistic view of reward systems within the chosen company, but to get a realistic view of reality, the approach has been inductive in empirical data. The empirical part is built and designed by a summary of the interviews carried out. In the study, we analyzed previous research together with empirical data. Our result indicates that both financial and nonfinancial rewards are an important source of motivation for employees. A mix of both rewards is required for the reward system to have the most optimal motivation influence on employees. However, our result suggest that non-financial rewards is more important and effective than financial rewards, especially among the older employees in terms of education and development opportunities. The motivational preferences varied between the different interviewees, but everyone agreed that there should be a combination of these rewards in order to achieve the highest level of motivation.

    Abstract [en]

Burnout due to work-related stress is increasing in the society. Many studies concern the causes and effects of burnout, but rarely concern the experiences of those who are living with burnout. The aim of this study was to examine the experience of living with burnout. The concepts of health, suffering, burnout, stress and coping are briefly described in the background. The method that was used is a literature-based study with the analysis of qualitative research. This study is based on eight qualitative articles. Six themes emerged; Physical experiences, Psychological experiences and Existential experiences, Work experiences, Experiences of relations in private life and Experiences of demands and expectations. The results shows that burnout affects a person on many different levels. Dealing with burnout involves a range of varieties of symtoms, physical as well as psychological and social. Physical symtoms that appeared among the participants were for instance fatigue, brain fog, headache and palpitations. Social and relational problems as bad conscience, low self- esteem and feelings of inadequacy were experienced. Emotional disturbances and existential reflections were common amongst those who were suffering from burnout.

    Abstract [en]

Background: The work done by the nurse at the primary health care center includes meeting with people of different ages and with different health problems and diseases. It is important that the work is carried out in a good environment. Former studies show that the workload for the district nurse has increased and become more stressful with threats and violence from patients who expect more treatment.

Aim: To describe the district nurse's experiences of their work situation.

Method: A qualitative interview study with eight district nurses working in primary health care in Sweden were interviewed. The data was analysed using a qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach.

Results: Three main categories and nine subcategories were generated by the authors. The categories included: The content of a good day is when all the colleagues are present, and the timetable is good planned with enough work containing good meetings. When planning fails is the change of planning because of more patients and obstacles in communication skills. Experience of their environment is the impact of the physical environment such as good working environment and threatening environment.

Conclusion: There was negative employment in the district nurses' work situation, but despite that, the experience was positive to work independently, make decisions and use their resources. They felt collegial support and it was important to know where to turn when things went wrong.

Lärande och kompetensutveckling i arbetslivet: förskollärares syn på kompetensutveckling2008Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Optimisation of Lilla Edet Landslide GPS Monitoring Network2015In: Journal of Geodetic Science, ISSN 2081-9919, E-ISSN 2081-9943, Vol. 5, no 1, p. 57-66Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Since the year 2000, some periodic investigations have been performed in the Lilla Edet region to monitor and possibly determine the landslide of the area with GPS measurements. The responsible consultant has conducted this project by setting up some stable stations for GPS receivers in the risky areas of Lilla Edet and measured the independent baselines amongst the stations according to their observation plan. Here, we optimise the existing surveying network and determine the optimal configuration of the observation plan based on different criteria. We aim to optimise the current network to become sensitive to detect 5 mm possible displacements in each net point. The network quality criteria of precision, reliability and cost are used as object functions to perform single-, bi- and multi-objective optimisation models. It has been shown in the results that the single-objective model of reliability, which is constrained to the precision, provides much higher precision than the defined criterion by preserving almost all of the observations. However, in this study, the multi-objective model can fulfil all the mentioned quality criteria of the network by 17% less measurements than the original observation plan, meaning 17%of saving time, cost and effort in the project.

Optimization of deformation monitoring networks using finite element strain analysis2018In: Journal of Applied Geodesy, ISSN 1862-9016, E-ISSN 1862-9024, Vol. 2, no 2, p. 187-197Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

An optimal design of a geodetic network can fulfill the requested precision and reliability of the network, and decrease the expenses of its execution by removing unnecessary observations. The role of an optimal design is highlighted in deformation monitoring network due to the repeatability of these networks. The core design problem is how to define precision and reliability criteria. This paper proposes a solution, where the precision criterion is defined based on the precision of deformation parameters, i. e. precision of strain and differential rotations. A strain analysis can be performed to obtain some information about the possible deformation of a deformable object. In this study, we split an area into a number of three-dimensional finite elements with the help of the Delaunay triangulation and performed the strain analysis on each element. According to the obtained precision of deformation parameters in each element, the precision criterion of displacement detection at each network point is then determined. The developed criterion is implemented to optimize the observations from the Global Positioning System (GPS) in Skåne monitoring network in Sweden. The network was established in 1989 and straddled the Tornquist zone, which is one of the most active faults in southern Sweden. The numerical results show that 17 out of all 21 possible GPS baseline observations are sufficient to detect minimum 3 mm displacement at each network point. © 2018 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.

The Effect of Instrumental Precision on Optimisation of Displacement Monitoring Networks2016In: Acta Geodaetica et Geophysica Hungarica, ISSN 1217-8977, E-ISSN 1587-1037, Vol. 51, no 4, p. 761-772Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In order to detect the geo-hazards, different deformation monitoring networks are usually established. It is of importance to design an optimal monitoring network to fulfil the requested precision and reliability of the network. Generally, the same observation plan is considered during different time intervals (epochs of observation). Here, we investigate the case that instrumental improvements in sense of precision are used in two successive epochs. As a case study, we perform the optimisation procedure on a GPS monitoring network around the Lilla Edet village in the southwest of Sweden. The network was designed for studying possible displacements caused by landslides. The numerical results show that the optimisation procedure yields an observation plan with significantly fewer baselines in the latter epoch, which leads to saving time and cost in the project. The precision improvement in the second epoch is tested in several steps for the Lilla Edet network. For instance, assuming two times better observation precision in the second epoch decreases the number of baselines from 215 in the first epoch to 143 in the second one.

    Abstract [en]

This essay is about why companies choose to voluntary introduce the international accounting framework IFRS. 2005 the EU adopted IFRS which resulted in companies that are listed are required to report according to the standards in IFRS while unlisted companies have the option to do it. There are different reasons why companies voluntary choose to introduce IFRS or not, reasons to introduce voluntary IFRS can be the size of the company or a require from the stakeholders. There are many positive effects of reporting under IFRS despite this there are also negative effects like the introduction are expensive. The purpose of this essay is about to find out which factors certified controller believes are behind voluntary introduction of IFRS. Certified controller is a profession with a great knowledge in accounting which made it relevant to interview them. To study the purpose of this essay a qualitative method were used while the research approach was inductive. To study which factors certified controller believe is behind voluntary IFRS interviews were used. The studies research question is like following: What are the motives for implementing voluntary IFRS for unlisted companies? In the analyses it can be concluded that the majority of the respondents believe that companies applying voluntary IFRS for example the fact that companies want to be listed. Agent costs, information asymmetry and external relations are three factors that according to previous researches has an impact on the accounting choices a company will make. All of the interviewees told us that agency costs were a significant cost because the cost can be high. External relations is a motive that this study shows does matter, for example it can be relevant to some companies to implement voluntary IFRS to get the chance to take a loan. Other affecting factors that contribute to the implementing of voluntary IFRS is the vision of the owner. The positive effect with implementing voluntary IFRS is greater comparability. Despite the benefits, this study shows that there are negative effects of IFRS. The implementing for example is expensive and report according to IFRS is complicated, also the staff are not always inclined to change with the introduction of a new system. The result of this essay shows that there are extern and intern motives to voluntary implementing IFRS. Despite this the essay shows that there are also affecting effects that arise when implicating the framework.

Investeringsprocess: En studie om investeringsprocessen i tillverkningsföretag2015Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate how leaders work with feedback as a toolin their management positions. Previous research has shown how feedback is usedwithin organizations to develop individuals' performance and behavior. Further, the introduction highlighted how there is not enough research regarding the experiences of working with feedback. The theory-section also stressed thatfeedback is a process for both the sender and the receiver. The sender's process is characterized by anxiety and fear which result in a presentation of less quality. The managers described the process for the receiver as influenced by personal characteristics which affect their perception. The informants consisted of five leaders, four men and one woman. These managers had different positions and geographical placements within the same company. Since this study aims to emphasize how these managers experience feedback, a qualitative study with semistructured interviews and thematic analysis was chosen. To an extent the result reflected the results of previous research and described how the senders' feedback process was characterized by fear in those cases where the managers were to present criticizing feedback. The informants pointed out that feedback was a gift since it promotes individual progress and therefore is something the receivershould be grateful for. Possibly, it is not the presentation of feedback that further needs to be developed but the receivers' openness and acceptance. This to have an allowing culture where the employees and not only the board, requests feedback.

"Det sociala är ju goare än maten många gånger": En studie kring ytliga samtal och sociala gemenskaper för äldre.2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to illustrate and analyze the occurrence and meaning of superficial conversation for senior citizens. The purpose was also to investigate what meaning superficial conversations can have regarding everyday life for the elderly and if it can contribute in creating social communities. Based on the objective of the study the following questions were formed: How can superficial conversations be described and what can be conveyed in these conversations? Of what importance is the place in creating superficial conversation? How can superficial conversation in conjunction with the place contribute to establishing social communities for the elderly? The study has a qualitative approach and the scientifically theoretical standpoint is critical realism. The empirical material has been gathered from a municipally driven diner. Seven participating observations has been conducted, where around four informal interviews have been conducted for every observation session. Furthermore four formal interviews were conducted; these have been qualitative interviews; a combination of semistructured and unstructured interviewing. Field notes were taken in conjunction to the observations and all formal interviews have been transcribed. The respondents are men in the ages 40-90 years old, living alone in private properties. The results of the study demonstrates that there are developed social relations at the restaurant which can be categorized as thin ties. The results also display how these social relations are expressed and the meaning of these thin ties in relation to the place. The results have been analyzed in relation to the studies theoretical framework and previous research. The conclusion is that the superficial conversation has a deeper meaning as a means for the elderly to create social communities. It also shows that the place is important, both in itself but also in conjunction with superficial conversation to help create these communities. The place is a contributing factor in the development of thin ties and superficial conversation nourishes this development and keeps these social relations alive. An increased understanding regarding the importance of superficial conversation would facilitate the social pedagogical work for finding new ways of preventing social exclusion and in the development of social meeting places for elderly people.

    Abstract [en]

In this paper we have had as purpose to analyze the discourse about motherhood as it shows in media which appeal to mothers. This is in order to get an understanding about standards and valuations existing in today´s community concerning what it means to be a mother. The paper´s empiric material consists of the magazine Mama, which appeal to mothers with children younger than 12 years of age. We have with the help of an attempt of a discourse analysis analyzed how the motherhood discourse is reproduced and constructed in the material, and we can in our analysis see that it in the magazine is conveyed a message about what a mother "is" and "should" be. It is even evident that in the material there are pictures and texts where the mother has the basic responsibility for the children and for the home, and that these pictures strengthen the motherhood discourse. They become an accordingly normative ideal for mothers to endeavor. We also see in our analysis that there is a conception that a woman is expected to fulfil and balance different roles in many fields, as an example you should be able to combine being a good mother, career woman and a wife at the same time. And it is very important to be a great success in all these fields

Komponentavskrivning av byggnader i kommuner: Implementeringsprocessen och dess svårigheter.2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Prior fiscal year 2014 an explicit requirement for component depreciation for fixed assets was introduced in Swedish municipalities by the standard setting body Council for Municipal Accounting (CMA). The requirement has largely been introduced due to increased harmonization with the municipal companies. Recommendations from the Council is a principle-based regulatory system, which means that municipalities may make their own interpretations of less detailed rules. This could result in different interpretations of the requirement for component depreciation among the municipals. This could possibly lead to reduced comparability.

The purpose of the study was to gain a better understanding for how municipalities one year after the requirement for component depreciation was introduced, have interpreted the requirement of component depreciation of buildings, and what difficulties encountered in the implementation process. Furthermore, the aim was also to examine whether the comparability is reduced by the introduction, where there are no specific rules for the classification of components to be made.

The study was based on a qualitative approach, and personal interviews were conducted with respondents from four municipalities in western Sweden. The theory underlying the study was based primarily from institutional theory, which emphasizes the processes of change in organizations, and why organizations tend to resemble each other.

The results of the study showed that a few municipalities began the component depreciation method. However, the municipalities will probably use a similar component model as they use information and guidance from the same regulatory body in the working process of component depreciation. The main difficulties that the municipalities generally experiencing is primarily the lack of guidance in the interpretation of the recommendations and how detailed the component depreciation should be. That half of the municipalities have not begun component depreciation in time can possibly be explained by the budget priorities that generally have been superior to accounting principles in Swedish municipalities, but also indicate that the municipalities want to avoid costly mistakes and awaiting responses from other municipalities. It can also be explained by the resistance that occurred in a single municipality. This can partly be explained by that it is generally considered more difficult to implement a change that does not go against the established rules and practices of an organization, but also of the municipal specific uniqueness where the budget plays a major role. The municipalities are also looking much on how other municipalities have handled the issue, which should result in similar models and decrease the risk of reduced comparability.

The knowing doing gap: En studie av de bakomliggande orsakerna till det gap som råder mellan unga kvinnors attityd och beteende till hållbart mode2014Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Securing the just-in-time delivery for the after-market: Study at Volvo car customer service2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The thesis has been performed at Volvo Car Customer Service in Gothenburg, Sweden. The output from the study will support Volvo to secure the Just-In-Time delivery of referrals for the after-market. The scope was limited to referrals from pre-planned orders, which occurs when there is no availability in the distribution centre where the orders were placed.

Volvo's main warehouse in Europe is the Central Distribution Centre, which process referrals. The warehouse had an ongoing organisational change during this study. The concern was that the change would not lead to optimal conditions for processing referrals for different markets. It was therefore important to preserve the market knowledge in order to maintain a reliable referral service.

A qualitative study was used and the information was gathered primarily through semi-structured interviews. Literature was studied both initially and continuously through the study. Analyse of the literature, current situation and data collection generated ideas for possible ways of securing the referral process and improvements. Benchmarking and Workshop was also performed in order to obtain further ideas.

The result of this study was an information material containing information about all concerned markets, overview of referral flow and information regarding how the Central Distribution Centre needs to print referrals. The proposals suggested for future work were explained in long- and short-term. The short-term suggestions include use of the developed material in order to preserve the knowledge along with providing correct working conditions. For long-term suggestions focus has been on how to reduce or remove the printing problem. For future work Volvo Car Customer Service should consider these proposals in order to secure and improve the referral service.
