Accessibility- The interaction experiences of visually impaired people with mobile application using assistive technology.: A qualitative study of a banking application2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Banks have evolved from providing paper-based banking solutions to providing the most cutting-edge technologies, such as mobile banking. Because there are more phones on the market than PCs, mobile banking has gotten greater attention in recent years. A significant number of blind people rely on smartphone-based assistive technology to carry out everyday tasks. Due to built-in characteristics such as accessibility, usability, and increased interactions, smartphone-based assistive devices are becoming increasingly popular among the blind. In order to give a better user experience, major IT firms have started to add accessibility elements that enable the inclusion of disabled individuals. However, when it comes to how people with visual impairment engage with smartphones, these inclusive efforts fall short. This paper looks at how people with visual impairments interact with mobile apps and the challenges they face with accessibility. The issues were then mapped to the relevant WCAG2.0 success criteria to see how extensive and sufficient WCAG 2.0 is when it comes to covering mobile accessibility issues for blind and visually impaired users. To conduct the research, a prototype of a banking application, specifically a loan application journey, was examined. In order to learn about the users' pain points, five people were interviewed. The results show that most of the success criteria were met, allowing as many people as possible to use the mobile application.

The Development and Evaluation of an Animated Video for Pre- and Postoperative Instructions for Patients with Osteoarthritis: A Design Science Research Approach2024In: Geriatrics, E-ISSN 2308-3417, Vol. 9, no 19, p. 1-11Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition in the hip or knee joints that develops during a long period of time and sometimes needs hip or knee joint replacement surgery when pain gets too intense for the patient. This paper describes how an animated video for pre- and postoperative instructions for patients with osteoarthritis was designed. The design science research (DSR) approach was followed by creating a web-based animated video. The web-based animated video is used to support surgical departments with education for patients suffering from OA. In the web-based animated video, information about OA surgical treatment and its pre- and post-arrangements was included. The relevance, the rigor, and the design cycles were focused on, with some iterations of and improvements in the animations. Even after implementation, there was a feedback-loop with comments from the surgeons and their patients. Moreover, as more departments will use the web-based animated video, they want to make their special mark on it, so that further changes will be made. This paper presents the design and successful implementation of an animated video for pre- and postoperative instructions for patients with osteoarthritis, tightly linked to the patient journey and the workflow of healthcare professionals. The animated video serves not only as a tool to improve care but also as a basis for further scientific research studies.

How to Apply and Manage Critical Success Factors in Healthcare Information Systems Development?: †2023In: Systems, ISSN 2079-8954, Vol. 11, no 9, p. -17, article id 469Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Studies on Critical Success Factors (CSFs) in Healthcare Information Systems (HIS) development projects have traditionally often been limited to retrospectively identifying CSFs in a finished project. In this paper, we focus on how to prospectively apply and manage CSFs in HIS projects. Based on a holistic perspective and systems thinking, an inductive research strategy was applied and a single in-depth case study was conducted. The findings include detailed descriptions that contribute to further understanding of how to prospectively apply and manage CSFs in HIS projects. The analysis reveals that CSFs must be applied differently and managed on various system levels. Furthermore, it shows how interactions exist between different system levels, both in the case of a specific CSF and between different CSFs on various system levels. Our analysis framework and findings indicate new directions for future research: how to prospectively apply and manage CSFs in HIS development projects can now be investigated both in a more holistic way and more in detail. Finally, healthcare practitioners can use the descriptions as practical checklists for guiding them in how to realize situational adaptation of CSFs in HIS projects across different system levels.

Interaction Gaps in PhD Education and ICT as a Way Forward: Results from a Study in Sweden2016In: International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning, E-ISSN 1492-3831, Vol. 17, no 3, p. 360-383Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Many research studies have highlighted the low completion rate and slow progress in PhD education. Universities strive to improve throughput and quality in their PhD education programs. In this study, the perceived problems of PhD education are investigated from PhD students' points of view, and how an Information and Communication Technology Support System (ICTSS) may alleviate these problems. Data were collected through an online open questionnaire sent to the PhD students at the Department of (the institution's name has been removed during the double-blind review) with a 59% response rate. The results revealed a number of problems in the PhD education and highlighted how online technology can support PhD education and facilitate interaction and communication, affect the PhD students' satisfaction, and have positive impacts on PhD students' stress. A system was prototyped, in order to facilitate different types of online interaction through accessing a set of online and structured resources and specific communication channels. Although the number of informants was not large, the result of the study provided some rudimentary ideas that refer to interaction problems and how an online ICTSS may facilitate PhD education by providing distance and collaborative learning, and PhD students' self-managed communication.

Communication and Collaboration Gaps among PhD Students and ICT as a Way Forward: Results from a Study in Sweden2015Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The low completion rate and slow progress in PhD education have been highlighted in many studies. However, the interaction problems and communication gaps that PhD students encounter make this attempt even more challenging. The aim of this study is to investigate the peer interaction problems and ICT based solutions from PhD students’ perspectives. The data collection method was an online questionnaire and in-depth interviews were used to follow up. The target group for the survey was the PhD students in Computer Science at Stockholm University. The total number of respondents for the survey was 53 PhD students and eleven randomly selected PhD students for the interviews. The results reflected a lack of peer interaction as an important issue in the perspective of the students. Based on this, the study showed several ICT solutions that have the potential to reduce the interaction problems and thereby improve PhD students’ collaborative learning and research quality.

Media Framing of the Legitimacy of Nigerian Elections in Relation to Stomach Infrastructure2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The thesis aims to explore the media framing of Nigeria’s 2023 election in relation to votebuying: How did the Nigerian print media portray the legitimacy of the 2023 election in relation to vote-buying? In addressing the research question, Entman’s (1993) framing theory is used. For identifying the themes and patterns around the framing of the election Entman’s four questions, defining the problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and treatment recommendations, in connection with the existing literature on vote buying are employed. The thesis is a single-case study adopting a qualitative content analysis for analyzing 26 articles from Daily Post, Nigerian Tribune, Premium Times, PUNCH, The Cable, The Guardian, This Day, and Vanguard. The results indicated that the media, with the exception of two media outlets, overwhelmingly framed vote-buying as an illegitimate fraudulent electoral practicecaused by poverty and hunger. It is framed as detrimental to democratic governance and the media suggested predominantly enforcement measures such as election monitoring and criminal prosecution as possible remedies

Analysis of entry phase in intermittent machining2018Licentiate thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Cutting forces and vibrations are essential parameters in the assessment of a cutting process. As the energy consumption in the machining process is directly affected by the magnitude of the cutting forces it is of vital importance to design cutting edges and select process conditions that will maintain high tool performance through reduced energy consumption. The vibrations are often the cause of poor results in terms of accuracy, low reliability due to sudden failures and bad environmental conditions caused by noise. The goal of this work is to find out how the cutting edge and cutting conditions affect the entry conditions of the machining operation. This is done utilizing experimental methods and appropriate theoretical approaches applied to the cutting forces and vibrations. The research was carried out through three main studies beginning with a force build-up analysis of the cutting edge entry into the workpiece in intermittent turning. This was followed by a second study, concentrated on modelling of the entry phase which has been explored through experiments and theory developed in the first study. The third part was focused on the influence of the radial depth of cut upon the entry of cutting edge into the workpiece in a face milling application. The methodology for the identification of unfavourable cutting conditions is also explained herein. Important insights into the force build-up process help addressing the correlation between the cutting geometries and the rise time of the cutting force. The influence of the nose radius for a given cutting tool and workpiece configuration during the initial entry is revealed. The critical angle i.e. the position of the face milling cutter that results in unfavourable entry conditions has been explained emphasizing the importance of the selection of cutting conditions. Finally, the theoretical methods utilized for the evaluation of the role of cutting edge geometry within entry phase dynamics has been explored. This has revealed the trends that are of interest for selection of cutting conditions and cutting edge design.

Edge Geometry Effects on Entry Phase by Forces and Vibrations2020Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Intermittent machining is in general strongly related to the large impacts in the entry phase and related vibrations. The influence of the impact forces and vibrations on the cutting process is dependent on workpiece material, structural properties of the tool-workpiece system, cutting edge geometries and cutting parameters. Cutting forces adopt generally a periodic behaviour that gives rise to forced vibrations. In addition, self-induced vibrations may arise because of lowrigidity and insufficient damping in the tool-workpiece system at specific cutting parameters. The ability of the cutting tool to carry the loads during the entry phase and minimize the vibrations is often the key parameter for an effective machining operation. This research work is based on the experiments, analytical studies and modelling. It was carried out through six main studies beginning with a force build-up analysis of the cutting edge entry into the workpiece in intermittent turning. This was followed by a second study, concentrated on modelling of the entry phase which has partly been explored through experiments and theory developed in the first study.

The third part was focused on the influence of the radial depth of cut upon the entry of the cutting edge into the workpiece in a face milling application. The methodology for the identification of unfavourable radial depth of cut is also addressed herein. Next, effects of the cutting edge on the vibrations in an end milling application were investigated. This study was related to a contouring operation with the maximum chip thickness in the entry phase when machining steel, ISO P material.

The results of this work provide some general recommendations when milling this type of workpiece material. After that, the focus was set on the dynamic cutting forces in milling. The force developments over a tooth engagement in milling showed to be strongly dependent on the cutting edge geometry. A significant difference between highly positive versus highly negative geometry was found.

The implication of this phenomena on the stress state in the cutting edge and some practical issues were analysed. Finally, the role of the helix angle on the dynamic response of a workpiece was investigated. The modelling technique using force simulation and computation of the dynamic response by means of modal analysis was presented. Extensive experimental work was conducted to compare the modelling and experimentally obtained results. The modelling results showed a similar trend as the experimental results. The influence of helix angle on the cutting forces and the dynamic response was explained in detail. The research conducted in this work contributes to the deeper understanding of the influence of the cutting edge geometry and the cutting parameters on the force build up process during the entry phase. The presented studies investigate the force magnitudes, force rates and dynamic behaviour of the tools and workpieces when machining at the challenging entry conditions. The methodologies applied are focused on the physical quantities as forces and vibrations rather than the experimental studies that evaluate tool life. The methods and results of the research work are of great interest for the design of the cutting tools and optimization of the cutting processes.

Influence of radial depth of cut on dynamics of face milling application2016In: The 7th International Swedish Production Symposium, SPS16, Conference Proceedings: 25th – 27th of October 2016, Lund: Swedish Production Academy , 2016, p. 1-9Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The choice of milling cutter geometry and appropriate cutting data for certain milling application is of vital importance for successful machining results. Unfavourable selection of cutting conditions might give rise to high load impacts that cause severe cutting edge damage. The radial depth of cut in combination with milling cutter geometry might under some circumstances give unfavourable entry conditions in terms of cutting forces and vibration amplitudes. This phenomenon originates from the geometrical features that affect the rise time of the cutting edge engagement into work piece at different radial depths of cut. As the radial depth of cut is often an important parameter, particularly when machining difficult to cut materials, it is important to explore the driving mechanism behind vibrations generation. In this study, acceleration of the work piece is measured for different radial depths of cut and cutting edge geometries. The influence of the radial depth of cut on the dynamical behaviour is evaluated in time and frequency domains. The results for different radial depths of cut and cutting geometries are quantified using root mean square value of acceleration. The outcome of this research study can be used both for the better cutting data recommendations and improved tool design.

    Abstract [en]

The ability to minimize vibrations in milling by the selection of cutting edge geometry and appropriate cutting conditions is an important asset in the optimization of the cutting process. This paper presents a measurement method and a signal processing technique to characterize and quantify the magnitude of the vibrations in an end milling application. Developed methods are then used to investigate the effects of various cutting edge geometries on vibrations in end milling. The experiments are carried out with five cutting edge geometries that are frequently used in machining industry for a wide range of milling applications. The results show that a modest protection chamfer combined with a relatively high rake angle has, for the most of cutting conditions, a reducing effect on vibration magnitudes. Furthermore, dynamics of a highly positive versus a highly negative cutting geometry is explored in time domain and its dependency on cutting conditions is presented. The results give concrete indications about the most optimal cutting edge geometry and cutting conditions in terms of dynamic behavior of the tool.

Dynamic effects on cutting forces with highly positive versus highly negative cutting edge geometries2019In: International Journal on Interactive Design and Manufacturing, ISSN 1955-2513, E-ISSN 1955-2505, Vol. 13, no 2, p. 557-565Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Understanding the influence of the cutting edge geometry on the development of cutting forces during the milling process is of high importance in order to predict the mechanical loads on the cutting edge as well as the dynamic behavior on the milling tool. The work conducted in this study involves the force development over the entire engagement of a flute in milling, from peak force during the entry phase until the exit phase. The results show a significant difference in the behavior of the cutting process for a highly positive versus a highly negative cutting edge geometry. The negative edge geometry gives rise to larger force magnitudes and very similar developments of the tangential and radial cutting force. The positive cutting edge geometry produces considerably different developments of the tangential and radial cutting force. In case of positive cutting edge geometry, the radial cutting force increases while the uncut chip thickness decreases directly after the entry phase; reaching the peak value after a certain delay. The radial force fluctuation is significantly higher for the positive cutting edge geometry. The understanding of such behavior is important for modelling of the milling process, the design of the cutting edge and the interactive design of digital applications for the selection of the cutting parameters.

Influence of cutting edge geometry on force build-up process in intermittent turning2016In: Procedia CIRP, ISSN 2212-8271, E-ISSN 2212-8271, Vol. 46, p. 364-367Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In the intermittent turning and milling processes, during the entry phase the cutting edges are subjected to high impact loads that can give rise to dynamical and strength issues which in general cause tool life reduction. In this study the effect of geometrical features of the cutting tool on the force generation during the entry phase is investigated. Cutting forces are measured by a stiff dynamometer at a high sampling frequency. In addition, the chip load area is analyzed and related to the measured cutting force. The results show that micro-geometrical features, in particular the protection chamfer, significantly affect the force generation during the entry phase.

Att hantera kompetens: En undersökning om hur kompetens hanteras och utvecklas inom den offentliga sektorn2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The importance of having the right competence and ensuring competence in the future can give organizations great competitive advantages, but also improve efficiency and performance. Through recruitment or competence development, organizations can secure access to key competencies that can ensure the success of organizations. This creates lasting relationships between employees and employers, while human resources have a positive effect on the organization. But how can management know what competences already exist? Or how competence can be used in the organization? The purpose of this study was therefore to contribute with new knowledge of how the competence identification-, assessment- and use processes look in organizations. The study also aimed to investigate how organizations support learning and the methods that are used. To fulfill the purpose, a qualitative method was chosen in which a total of five semi-structured interviews were conducted with four employees and one leader within a department in a public organization. The study showed that the organization encourages learning by offering development activities as much as possible. The courses were offered at an individual level but could be spread to others through group- and collaboration activities. The informants considered that group activities meant that knowledge and competences were exchanged between colleagues and that it possibly contributed to more learning than what could be done individually. The key tools of the competence management process were summarized as staff appraisals where employees are allowed to state how things are going in their daily work, what knowledge they consider themselves to possess and lack. Competence was used in many ways in the organization, but an interesting aspect was that employees with long experience in their field can also educate other workers. Thus, most of the internal training was offered, but in some cases external, which was due to cost savings. The conclusion was that the method for competence management was perceived as a good method that requires close work from the managers and good communication. However, it is considered to be relatively short-term and difficult to predict competence needs in the future. It also requires employees to be comfortable talking about their deficiencies, being engaged and initiating career development

Numerical Simulation of Aluminium Butt-weld2020Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the welding heat input on the heat affected zone (HAZ)in AA6005-T6 aluminium alloy for a butt-welded joint using gas metal arc welding by evaluating the thermal cycles, metallography and the resulting mechanical properties in the zone. This study involved using a welding experiment, numerical simulation, physical simulation and mechanical tests. The welding was carried out using the pulsed gas metal arc welding (GMAW) transfer and type J thermocouples were used to get the thermal cycles in the HAZ. Simufact® Welding was utilised for the numerical simulation. Optical microscope was used to evaluate the microstructures and Vickers microhardness test was done along the weld cross-section. The thermal cycles of thealuminium alloy and a thermal model for the experimental setup was developed. The HAZ was located on the weld cross-section with a mean hardness of 63.7HV0.1, which is considerably lower when compared with the base metal which has a hardness of 100HV0.1. This indicates thermal softening occurred due to the heat input to the material. There is a match in the hardness values of the Gleeble samples and the locations on the weld cross section suggested by the model showing validity of the simulation. This thesis work isused to assess the implications of heat input in aluminium weld joints, identify the HAZ and its mechanical properties in the design of welding process parameters for automobile parts. The Welding parameters can be optimized to reduce the amount of heat input into the weld as this will directly affect the mechanical properties int he HAZ.

Nowadays companies must become more efficient with optimization of manufacturing processes and handling of goods, which often also includes the packaging process. This is when companies within the same industry compete with different strategies to become a leading company. Ultramare AB is a company that is constantly working to reduce waste to compete with others in the same industry. In order to maintain competitiveness, the company needs to improve the packaging process and as a result, the thesis work was carried out with the purpose to increase the efficiency of the packaging flow. The aim of the project was to reduce the throughput time in the packaging flow from 25 percent to 15 percent of the total factory flow. The study design used in this thesis was a case study. It is based on a data collection that was based on literature study, observations and interviews. In addition, quantitative methods were implemented, for example, time measurements of the operations in the packaging flow. The information gathered from the observations and interviews indicated that the company had two different methods of delivery with the same amount of operations. Prior to mapping the current process, time measurements were performed on all operations to increase the efficiency of the process. These time measurements were based on different customer orders for each delivery method, which made it possible to obtain all the information to streamline the current process. The method used in mapping and analyzing the flow was a value stream mapping process for each delivery method. The purpose of the value stream mapping, in this case, was to be able to distinguish the value-creating and nonvalue-creating activities clearly and easily in the current flow. By having an overview of the current state of the packaging process, various improvement suggestions could be generated. The generated improvement suggestion was screened based on the warehouse workers in the packaging department, were reduced to a number of final suggestions. These were analyzed to determine the impact and effect each suggestion had on the process. In addition, an estimated time reduction is reported when implementing the final suggestions on the current flow. To clearly visualize the estimate for each improvement suggestion, two new value stream analysis were conducted with new times and activities. The result when implementing all 14 final suggestions was that the total throughput time will be reduced by 10.25 percent.

    Abstract [en]

A series of cognitive mapping exercises were produced in order to create an overview of global international risks and to have an at least intuitive help in setting priorities. The initial chaotic impression persisted all through this process and that was a result in itself. Combinations of risk factor appeared as the really notable risks and a few of those wereextracted. Recalling that risk developments not all follow linear or smooth trends, but jump, gave an additional alarm to the impression of an earth in a so far underestimated crisis.Time factors remain to be analyzed but it is already clear that there is more of an urgency thanthe well-known laws of entropy indicates. The current piecewise studies of risks and trends donot face that responsibility though, neither for the people nor for the administrations. Anethical perspective is also offered in this article: Will our serious alert do more good than harm? Who will benefit from the knowledge exposed of the weaknesses of our world?

Chefers upplevelser av e-ledarskapet under pandemin2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Investigation of a Flexible Manufacturing Scenario for Production Systems: Case study: GKN Aerospace Company2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Nowadays the globalization of the market has a direct impact to the companies. On one hand, gives them the opportunity to spread their business but on the other hand increases the competition and the efforts to succeed. This project is pursuing to investigate and design a system capable to take upon and optimize the production within functional shops by in-troducing automation. Although the system it would be a standard solution for the functional shops, a case study for GKN Aerospace Company with its specifications has been carried out. The task become trickier due to the aeronautic sector requires a lot of work and effort to produce their products. The items and materials are expensive as well as the processes and treatments thus the introduction of automation is quite complex. This case study has accom-plished a research through the concepts and options to introduce automation within this production process. Taking under consideration the costs and efforts that would demand the investment for automation, the project propose a new and innovative manufacturing system "Move & Play", suitable with the features and requirements GKN Aerospace Company may need. The system proposed has been designed regarding to features such as movability, modularity and flexibility. These features have been considered essentials in order to make the system worth it and cost effective. The job-shop approach that the company use in its production contemplate the continuous change of products and introduction of new ones. Hence, the idea is to use the "Move & Play" system when it is required along the production. As a consequence, this system will create a "local product flow" along that point in the production that will organize the rest of the production or "global flow". Moreover it is expected to apply the concept of "plug-in" the processes that the system need at each time and therefore give flexibility to the system. With that purposes, the work has studied three different designs of the "Move & Play" system. Each design have considered different aspects and disposition. These designs have been compared according with criteria such as geometrical, the capacity and investment needed and the cycle time spent. Finally a conclusion on which design is the most suitable has been stated as well as a future work to continue with the work has been proposed.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to analyze different condominium characteristics and to find out how much they affect the prices of condominiums located in the central areas of Gothenburg. A hedonic pricing model and several regression analyzes have been used to find the results. Information from 332 sold condominiums from 18-02-2015 to 18-05-2015 has been used in the calculations, grouped into different variables. The various independent variables as living space, fees and location explains the dependent variable that is the final price of condominiums. A shorter time interval has been used to minimize price impact from macroeconomic factors such as inflation, interest rates and economic forecasts. Four different parish areas have been explored: Johanneberg, Vasa, Annedal and Domkyrkan. The information about the condominiums sold was retrieved from värderingsdata.se. The results showed that the size, fees, balcony, floor and age influence the prices. The size indicated the absolute greatest impact on prices.

    Abstract [en]

Background: Diabetes mellitus type 1 is a lifelong chronic disease, which means constant contact with health care. Newly diagnosed patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 are admitted to hospital for approximately four days, during which time they and their relatives receive sufficient education to cope with everyday life at home.

Aim: To illuminate nurses' experiences of educating newly diagnosed patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 in a hospital environment.

Method: Six qualitative, two quantitative and two mixed-method articles were analysed. The studies took place in a hospital environment where nurses played a vital role in education about type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Results: Three themes emerged; Continuous staff training, which demonstrated that lack of time was the main reason for not having continuous staff training, Individualizing patient education, which illustrated the importance of individualized education for encouraging both patients and relatives to become more involved in the care and Working in a multi-professional team, which enabled nurses to individualize and take a person-centred approach to patient care.

Conclusion: Overall, nurses cite lack of time as a common reason for inadequate care as well as the absence of education for both patients and nurses. Individualizing patient education with regard to age, family situation and previous knowledge increases the likelihood of a safe and secure discharge. In order to create safe patient care, multi-professional collaboration is necessary to allow nurses to focus on providing individualized and person-centred care.

    Abstract [sv]

Samtalen spelades in med mobiltelefon alternativt i Google Meet.

    Abstract [en]

Digitization is a factor that grows in step with society's changes, and thus different organizations must take into account a change process that means meeting new perspectives and ways of working. The accounting process is one of many processes that have undergone a revolutionary development and are still in constant change. This study will therefore investigate how digitization has affected the accounting process in various organizations. The purpose of this essay is to get a more detailed picture of how accounting consultants have been affected by the change due to digitization in a more digitized accounting firm and a less digitized accounting firm in the private sector. The study was conducted using a qualitative method where the data collection was done at two agencies in the private sector through a survey. The survey consisted of open survey questions where the respondents were allowed to answer freely. The results showed that the digitization of the accounting process increased the effectiveness of the work. This has led to more time being left over for other tasks such as advice. The study has also shown that the accounting consultants predominantly have a positive attitude towards the work becoming more and more digitized. By comparing the accounting process between two different agencies, we have been able to see how the digitization process has affected the accounting agencies. In the more digitized office, work has become more efficient as the office has become paperless. In the less digitized accounting firm, the work for the parts that have been digitized has become more efficient, while the other parts are under an ongoing development process.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Our study aims to problematize and examine how social workers perceive social service treatment of clients who identify them self as LGBTQ. We have chosen to analyze the social workers´ answers based on a norm-critical and social constructivist perspective. The study is based on five interviews with employees working in social services with different target groups. We have examined how they relate to LGBTQ issues arising at work. We also explored whether social workers acquired a LGBTQ perspective and norm-critical approach through their initial training and any further training through their employment. The social workers emphasize that it is very important to treat the clients without preconceptions. In summary the results shows that the five social workers do have a willingness to work with LGBTQ issues and norm critical theories. But these issues get lower priority due to time constraints. They also expressed a desire for more knowledge and training in LGBTQ issues as this is something that is missing. However the social services require tools, knowledge, time and resources to be able to meet their clients' needs

Physical activity in preeschool2016Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Do the land-poor gain from agricultural investments? Empirical evidence from Zambia using panel data2015Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

In the context of the global land rush, some portray large-scale land acquisitions as a potent threat to the livelihoods of already marginalized rural farming households in Africa. In order to avoid the potential pitfall of studying a particular project that may well have atypical effects, this paper systematically investigates the impact on commercial farm wage incomes for rural smallholder households of all pledged investments in the agricultural sector in Zambia between 1994 and 2007. The results suggest that agricultural investments are associated with a robust moderate positive effect, but only for households with a relative shortage of land.

En kvalitativ studie om gemenskaper på ett särskilt boende i Västra Götaland: Upplevelser av både personal och äldre2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Processutveckling av förslagsverksamheten vid GKN Aerospace Sweden2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The business world is constantly subject to intense competition that requires continuous development of products, personnel and operations within the company. The development towards a better state comes at the expense of strict requirements in job descriptions where continuous improvement is part of the working role of individuals. In order to link the continuous improvement of the business well-being, there is a need of structured work for improvement in ways of a well-functioning suggestion scheme. Suggestion schemes main purpose is to utilize the experience and knowledge of all employees by encouraging individuals' skills and creativity, which will contribute with innovative and competitive suggestions. Personnel is a resource that covers particular knowledge that no other company can copy; therefore it should be utilized to the maximum extent possible.

The aim of the project is to identify and specify improvement measures for the suggestion scheme at GKN Aerospace Sweden AB in Trollhättan. The work consisted of an initial literature review, which included direct and indirect factors effecting the continuous improvement with linkage to the proposed suggestion scheme. In order to concretize the theoretical framework of the tools main purpose for the continuous improvement, a theoretical and a practical benchmarking was utilized. The company's current suggestion scheme was mapped and analyzed, and a foundation for future improvements was established.GKN Aerospace Sweden is part of the GKN Group, which operates in more than 30 countries around the world and employs about 50 000 individuals. The company manufactures components for aircraft and rocket engines, as well as service and maintenance. In the current situation GKN Aerospace manages a suggestion scheme that depends entirely on an internal IT system and has an average lead time of 43 weeks until a decision is made. The reward system for received suggestions is an economic reimbursement calculated through a complex formula. The entire suggestion scheme process is extensive and includes several loops for conducting the evaluation of suggestions.

The thesis resulted in improvement propositions based on studies and situation analysis, but differs from the expected target to improve and develop the current system. The problem that arose was that the current system does not support the company's expectations for the suggestion scheme process. It resulted in a completely new system with associated procedures and reward guidelines were developed to create incentives and higher motivation for the submission of suggestions for improvement. The improvement propositions resulted in: dedicated time for improvements, group-based activities for continuous improvements, start-up meetings, new process, basis for the development of a new IT system, economic and symbolic rewards.Date: 2015-

Media and the Muslims: A thesis on media framing & priming in Argentina2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

All over the western world, media are giving Muslims the role as scapegoats for everything that is wrong with society. Through grave generalizations as well as alleged connections between Islam and terrorism, social categorizations are established in which Muslims become the ‘others’. Research has been made on a various amount of western nations, with the exception of a few, and this thesis explores how Argentinean media portray Islam and Muslims. With the use of quantitative and qualitative text analyses, the result will show the levels of priming and framing in relation to earlier research. By assuming social constructivism, a high frequency of these two ‘faces of power’ would affect societal relations, possibly creating a gap between an ‘us’ and ‘them’. Our findings suggest, however, this is not the case in Argentina; on the contrary, Argentinean media lack the frames which make Muslims ‘others’. This important discovery implies that the relationship between Islam and the West of today does not necessarily have to be one of two combatants, incapable of coexisting.

Unnatural deaths in reindeer-herding Sami families in Sweden, 1961-20012010In: International Journal of Circumpolar Health, ISSN 1239-9736, E-ISSN 2242-3982, Vol. 69, no 2, p. 129-137Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objectives. Unnatural deaths among Indigenous populations, including the Swedish Sami, occur more often than among the general population. To find prevention strategies, we explored the circumstances of the unnatural deaths of members of reindeer-herding Sami families. Study design. The number of deaths from among a cohort of 7,482 members of reindeer-herding Sami families were retrieved from the National Board of Health and Welfare for the years 1961- 2001. Methods. An evaluation of the information from autopsy records at the National Board of Forensic Medicine, police reports, and available medical records identified 158 unnatural deaths. These were then analysed in detail. Results. Transport-related deaths and suicides were the most common unnatural deaths among Swedish reindeer-herding Sami family members. Suicides contributed to 23% of all deaths, road traffic accidents to 16%, and snowmobile fatalities to 11%. The accidents generally reflected an "outdoor lifestyle" and the working conditions were characterized by the use of off-road vehicles such as snowmobiles. Half of the number of victims tested positive for alcohol and alcohol abuse was documented in 15% of all victims. Conclusions. The results indicate that alcohol is an important factor in preventing unnatural deaths among reindeer-herding Sami, together with increased safety of both on-road and off-road transportation.

Introduktionsutbildningar för nyrekryterade chefer: En undersökning av förstagångna linjechefers upplevelser av genomförd introduktionsutbildning2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This essay aims to examines the topic of introduction process, where we approach first-time line managers experiences of what such a process should contain in order to take on the new role as manager in the best possible way. The introduction represents the process of assimilating the new line manager into the new role. The study is based on data produced through semi-structured interviews with 9 recently promoted line managers in a public organization. The results indicate that activities such as dialogue, practical participation and reflection are very important parts to include in an introductory process for first-line managers. The greatest lessons are based on experience-based and informal learning. This thanks to the large network of contacts presented early in the introduction process. The contact network is considered to be an important and supportive part in the role transition of first line managers to that extent, that the first line managers are asking for more of the planned opportunities for discussion and dialogue. The contact network includes mentoring, which provides space and opportunity to vent practical questions, feelings and thoughts. Based on these results, this study argues that organizations should keep this in mind when preparing an introductory process for managers.

Rekryteringsprocessen: En studie om de olika faktorer som påverkar rekrytering2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The recruitment-subject is very emotional regardless of context. We noticed initially that the subject is very diverse and therefore we had to limit ourselves. The intent of the study was to be objective. We chose to research about the recruitment process and the building blocks behind it. The process is undeniably the heart of the recruitment process and employee turnover, which is why it should be highly developed and effective.

This study is primarily based on a qualitative method, whereas the purpose is to answer the research question; "How does the recruitment process work? – What is the most important part in the recruitment process?". Theory and research are based on current as well as established work within the subject. The reason we use established work is that it is still useful to the degree that it has not been proved wrong or obsolete to this day. The empirics was gathered through six different set of interviews with different participants. The participants are employed within different areas of their respective organization and thereby give us different perspectives of the process. The study results in an analysis of our theory and empirics. The analysis in turn will be based upon our hermeneutical method, meaning that it is our own interpretation based on the research material. The interpretation is validated based on the theory and research presented in the study. The analysis results in a conclusion that answers the two research questions.

The result of our research study proves that the process is dependent on different factors, such as requirement analysis, selection methods and well planned interviews. A key to success during the recruitment process are personality and behavior tests. The most important factor during the recruitment process is the more current method, which is based on e-recruitment. E-recruitment focuses on being effective and automated. It is a hybrid among the studied recruitment forms that does not affect the size of the recruiting organization.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background Depression is a common mental disorder worldwide, that embrace more than 264 million people. Depression can lead impaired ability to perform everyday tasks such as work and school. Previous research has shown that physical activity can reduce depressive symptoms. The aim of nursing is for the patient to experience health. It can be fulfilled by the nurse supporting and teaching patients to find tools and motivating patients to self-care.

Aim The aim of this study was to illuminate people's experience of physical activity in case of depression.

Method A literature review based on the content of eight qualitative studies. Analyzed using a qualitative content analysis based on a five-step model to understand the experiences of depressed individuals.

Results The findings revealed two main themes and five subthemes. The first theme was motivation has meaning with three subthemes to feel resistance, own and others influence, self-confidence has an impact. The first theme describes factors that either enabled or prevented individuals from performing physical activity. The second theme was contributing to recovery with two subthemes symptoms are alleviated and leads to recovery. The second theme describes that physical activity contributes to the recovery of depression, for example by increasing well-being.

Conclusion The results of the literature study show that experiences of physical activity are largely positive among individuals with depression, such as improvement of depressive symptoms and increased well-being. In some cases, the depression aggravated, which manifested itself through stress and anxiety. Support from the environment was a factor that could motivate to physical activity.

    Abstract [en]

Background: Burns are a global problem and more people survive today. After a burn injury a long rehabilitation time can wait, both physical and psychological and little is known about the patients' experiences after a burn injury.

Aim: The aim of this study is to illuminate patients' experience of life after a burn injury.

Method: A method is used to contribute to evidence-based nursing, based on analysis of qualitative research. Data was collected from analyzing eleven scientific articles.

Results: Two themes with five sub-themes emerged. Results show that patients' experience increased vulnerability in relation to changes in the skin, the changed appearance and the mental stress. The feeling of pain, itching, stigmatization and anxiety are some of the experiences that create problems in everyday life. They also found that the experience of support and acceptance by the burned was part of the process of returning to life.

Conclusion: The result showed that suffering from a burn causes remaining problems after the injury. The patients needed support to be able to accept what happened and return to life.

Immersiva konstupplevelser i VR för äldre: en pilotstudie med fokus på kommunanställdas perspektiv2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Previous research shows that individuals who live a rich life filled with experiences rate their perceived well-being higher. Individuals who, for various reasons, become isolated in care homes as elderly, miss out on experiences they previously enriched their lives with. One way to ensure that these isolated individuals can continue to experience new things, such as art, is by offering immersive experiences in VR.

This pilot project is considered to have largely succeeded in fulfilling its purpose of finding common factors on which to build a possible collaboration between the different administrations of Kommunen (pseudonym). This with the aim of being able to create something reminiscent of a project carried out in Halmstad. The pilot project has also managed to capture what is currently being done to activate older people, which the current plans are, and what visions of how immersive VR could be used in the future exists. Finally, the project has also managed to identify some of the challenges and possible difficulties that the implementation of a similar project could be affected by. To do this, a number of key people within Kommunen's various operations have been interviewed to examine interests, opportunities, conditions and perceived limitations. The responses have then been thematized and analyzed in order to ascertain the results.

The most obvious challenge with such an implementation was expressed by all administrations to be limited resources in terms of finances, personnel and time. However, the conclusion indicates that there is both willingness and good opportunities for collaboration between the various administrations within Kommunen to create immersive experiences in VR.

Sjuksköterskors upplevelser av att möta våldsutsatta kvinnor inom sjukvården2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Women are exposed to violence in intimate relationships much more than men and this is a global health problem. Nurses have a responsibility to identify violence in intimate relationships and meet these women in a professional way. Previous research indicates a lack of response from nurses towards women who experience violence in close relationships.

Aim: The aim was to describe nurses´ experiences of meeting abused women in healthcare.

Method: A literature-based study where eight articles have been analyzed through qualitative design with the support of Friberg's five-step model.

Results: The results showed that nurses experience a strong emotional impact in the meeting with the vulnerable women. They were worried about both women and themselves, which affected them privately. They had to suppress their feelings and they experienced professional dilemmas. It also emerged that lack of time and lack of knowledge was an obstacle to asking the vulnerable women the question. When knowledge and experience existed, a feeling of security was created.

Conclusion: Based on this result, the conclusions can be drawn that nurses need additional knowledge about the topic of violence to feel secure in their professional role to meet and identify the women. It is also clear that nurses need strategies to deal with the emotional impact and to have clear guidelines for how the question of violence should be asked.

    Abstract [en]

This study aims to investigate how individuals with a combined substance abuse and housing problems describe their views on their addiction, their homes and the help they receive through the care of the community social service agencies. In light of the insufficient scien-tific evidence in the fields of substance abuse and housing support, the purpose of this paper is to gain increased knowledge in the both fields. An acquisition of increased knowledge is needed and important from a societal perspective as well as from an individual perspective.

The fact that the economic resources in society are put on actions that is utilized to increase the ability of the individual to recover from substance abuse and housing problems is of benefit to society, but above all it benefits the individual. The individual becomes an asset to society instead of a continued drain on community resources. Increased knowledge in the field can contribute to learning for those in the field, but also for others interested.

This concept is in line with Work Integrated Learning (= AIL). The study is based on eight interviews and the methodology and analysis are inspired by the phenomenological perspec-tive. The results shows that all interviewed informants find dependencies in the home as sup-port in the form of two aspects, partly as a relative support and partly as a daily support. The results further shows that the abuse, for many, resulted in isolation from family and non-addicted friends. Additionally, the home is seen as a basis for security and integrity.
