    The concept of information is often taken for more or less granted in research about information systems. This paper introduce a model starting with Shannon and Weaver’s data transmission model and ends with knowledge transfer between individual persons. The model is in fact an enhanced communication model giving a framework for discussing problems in the communication process. A specific feature of the model is the aim for providing design guidelines in designing the communication process. The article ends with identifying a need for develop the model further to incorporate also communication within and between organisations of different kinds.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstract. I consider my career as rather exceptional. I think I am the only living person in Sweden who achieved a professor chair with only one international journal publication; a publication I use as an example of a totally incomprehensible text! The following is the storyof how I achieved this. I first describe two important issues that have governed my decisionsin the career: Being interpretivist in a dominating positivist research paradigm and my decision not to publish. This is important for understanding my interpretation of what was happening. Then I describe the four universities where I have worked, first by providing the story, then describing how the discipline developed at that place and finally some reflections on the research we conducted. I summarize by giving an historic overview of informatics as Iperceive it after 44 years of teaching and finally I reflect upon my career according to my goals.

    Abstract [en]

    Systems development seems to be taught in a very traditional way in the Swedish unversities. It is supposed that an inhouse development starting from scratch will be at hand. This is shown using an investigation of current books in the area, of contemporary educations in systems deveopment. But the needs from the business word are different and this is shown in an investigation of job advertisments in Sweden. The conclusion is that informatics as subject is at a deep crise: We educate students for a work that was at hand in the 80´s and not for the 21st century!

    A contact service in a municipality is a place where the citizens can apply for processing of their claims concerning municipal jurisdiction. Examples could be application for a place at pre-school, planning permission or change of dustbin etc. The clerks at the contact centre should be able to provide immediate service in most of the matters. This requires the work-process for each matter to be known. Before starting of a contact service this knowledge existed in the administration for the actual claim. In many cases it was tacit and not described. This paper discusses the problem of making this knowledge explicit and described in order to be used at the contact service. Issues concerning work organisation, personnel and job satisfaction are recognised, but not in focus. Instead our focus lies on the work content, processing of the claims, which the clerks are dealing with. It is a qualitative study, based upon three existing contact services and one, which is in the design phase. We start with a brief discussion of different types of knowledge, related to classical epistemologies within the organisation area (Nonaka & Takeuchi, Brown & Duguid, Cook & Brown, Polyani, etc). Based upon empirical material from the cases we identify some typical knowledge categories. It might be general knowledge about rules, procedures and such things; it might be experience-based knowledge from previous claims, typical claims and work praxis developed over time. It might also be knowledge about the specific citizen and about the specific application. But it can also be totally new categories. Two categories we are pretty sure to identify are matter-oriented knowledge, concerning the actual matter and procedural knowledge, concerning the processing of the matter-oriented knowledge. In our previous research about work-flow four levels have been identified and we suspect the same basic reasoning might apply here.

    When Internet in the middle of the 1990s made its breakthrough a revolution occurred compared to the industrial revolution. Suddenly the cost for information transport was reduced to almost zero and genuinely new opportunities arose. Work, that can be performed by unskilled workers, are outsourced and the focus is on the business process. This requires a genuine new way of doing business; we see a need for trust, loyalty, and sharing of values. Education of users at the workplace will be a major concern and a common language and a mutual and deep understanding of the concepts and social contexts used is a prerequisite. A 3D apple model for context is described. For defining the social context, a user centred approach must be used. We need genuinely new informatics paradigms adapted to the network economy. This requires a massive re-education of all workers, both white and blue collar. To sum it all up: Reliable and sustainable production, availability of reliable information, trust, and flexibility are the means for us to survive in this new economy.

    Establishing contact centres in municipalities is a contemporary issue. Many

    municipalities started establishing contact centres as the municipalities face towards the

    environment. A problem often neglected is the integration of the contact centre with the other

    administrations of the municipality. Our focus lies on designing common processes in the

    municipality for ensuring an information flow between the contact centre and the administrations.

    Derived from the empirical data, the authors present a model with the purpose to establish

    processes, which might reduce conflicts between the contact centre and the administrations. A

    focus is on the use of naming and tagging matters. The model is based upon the use of ontologies

    of the clerks working with a matter in a workflow. One characteristic of this model is that the

    ontologies are developed in close cooperation with the clerks.

    Coping Skills of Students in Synchronous Computer-Mediated Communication2013In: ICERI2013 Proceedings, 2013, p. 1210-1216Conference paper (Refereed)

    Interactive and communicative situations within social environments are prerequisites for learning in collaboration. Synchronous computer-mediated communication is often used as a means to achieve active learning in collaboration. Synchronous communication thus offers the opportunity to actively engage students in collaborative learning activities. This paper is based on an ethnographic case study of synchronous communication between students in the lower secondary school collaborating in a cross-border project involving Danish, Norwegian and Swedish students. The project is aimed to promote the students in their Scandinavian intercomprehension skills using their own native languages when the students are collaborating in different joint projects. The aim of the paper is to analyze the characteristics of the coping skills of the students within a collaborating learning project using synchronous computer-mediated communication.One of the students in each group in each of the collaborating countries acted as a group leader, decided in advance. The students were also prepared in advance of what to synchronously discuss with their collaborating Scandinavian student groups. However, a critical part of the synchronous collaboration was the assignment for the group collaboration leader. It has been obvious that the student assigned for the role really is coping with this situation. The group collaborating leader has to take initiative, relate the discussion to the actual subject, distribute the word between the participants, ask questions and distribute the questions between the students in the different collaborating countries speaking different neighbor languages. To help in this situation is to have visible name tags on each student. A prerequisite is that the group collaboration leaders have to have the social skills as self-esteem, empathy, emotional intelligence as well as problem solving. Thus, these students need different types of cognitive, affective and social skills related to cope with a real situation performed synchronously with support of information and communication technology. Some students sometimes prove specific coping skills in this real context in the school and are not necessarily those students who are the most skilled within their native language.The engagement from the teachers is of vital importance for the students' active participation in the synchronous collaboration. Therefore the teachers have to take part in the background in each room in the different countries within the collaborating computer-mediated synchronous session. This will imply a more serious and engaged participation of all the students. The instructional strategies and advices the students got from the teachers in advance were of significant importance. Moreover, the teachers' engagement also has an impact on the students' sense of trust and security between each other and between the students in each collaborating country within the synchronous communication.

    Mobile workers are professionals who frequently work on the move, far from a fixed workplace, often performing knowledge-intensive activities. Mobility challenges creation and sharing of knowledge among these professionals, and the existing literature lacks powerful theoretical frameworks conducive to creating supportive learning pathways for them to meet these challenges. This chapter is a theoretical and practical contribution to fill this gap by analyzing a case of expansive learning initiated by mobile workers themselves. Based on longitudinal participant observation, the study traces the steps undertaken by these professionals to create a new artifact that helped them to know what, when, where, and how they needed to perform their work activities. © 2018, IGI Global.     In 2007, a whole new market of mobile phones was created, which we today call smartphones. As smartphones developed at a furious pace, new technology and security issues also surfaced for companies. Since 2009, "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) made companies start thinking and plan their activities for the wireless technology that we use all the time, and this caused information security to come into focus. BYOD has become so much larger that it has meant a new creation of policy documents and safety issues that are coming into focus among companies that use BYOD. Consequences, threats, risks, etc. are things that companies need to be aware of if they are going to use BYOD in their businesses. By interviewing five different companies of different sizes and industries, an impression of how Swedish companies manage BYOD and its security aspects can be determined. While providing clear facts, one can also increase awareness among other companies and help the thinking about why they should adopt BYOD into a company. BYOD was difficult for the companies to define. Should employees own a device or could a company own a device and the employees use it? The purpose of this report is to contribute knowledge about how companies manage BYOD, and if they know what the consequences for safety are that may arise. This study provides the following results, if the companies use BYOD and if so, how they use their mobile devices when connecting to different networks. And how companies provide security to minimize the risks that can be generated when companies make use of BYOD. Safety is always a focus of companies and they are aware of the consequences that may occur if security does not functions within the company.

If companies are not protected, they can suffer from threats and viruses even though they were fully aware of the consequences.

    The cost of returns is a big problem for a webshop. The purpose of this studie was to examine a user-experience related function on a webshop with clothes, additional to regular product pictures. It takes a closer look at a function called catwalk, which is a video where a model shows off clothes in movement. This studie was created with the purpose to see if this function could have any impact on the consumers positive experiences within searching for a specific product, in this case clothes. It also observes if the function provides a safer feeling for the consumer when it comes to evaluate a potential item for purchase. This, to see if the amount of return products eventually could be reduced. Six girls in the age span of 20-35 years old was observed when they searched for clothes, and afterwards they was interviewed about their thoughts of the catwalk-function. Results ars showing that the participants was given a safer feeling when it came to choosing the right product, and was given more help in the search progress. By experiences like these, the consumers desire to return a product reduces. The function was used mainly in the ending process of selecting a product, and could be compared to a changing room in a physical clothing store. This function is a distinct indication of user-experience (UX).

    Abstract [en]

    An implementation of an IT system is a socio-technical change that places many demands on the organization if the implementation is to be considered successful. There are challenges of both the technical, social and organizational nature. Descriptions of the implementations that were perceived as successful often refers to common factors that contributed to the successful implementation, so-called success factors. The purpose of this work is to obtain knowledge about those factors and how they can affect system implementations in municipal organiza-tions. In this work those so-called success factors are identified based on theory and studies of practical circumstances in organizations. The factors are examined and knowledge about them is gathered and presented. This work is conducted using a qualitative interview study of two organizations in two small municipalities with large experience on system implementations. The interviewed persons have varying roles in the organizations and different experiences of implementations. The results are the respondents' perceived views, experiences and comments on implementations regarding such as system usability, leadership, training and commitment.

    This work presents factors perceived to have contributed to the success, for example the lead-ers support and commitment, technical stability and user participation. The main conclusions of this work include that a number of success factors that are described in studies from other types of organizations can even be found in municipal organizations. Factors that affect the implementations success are found in fields that regards organization, qualifications, systems applicability and the systems users. There are different methods for evaluation, and different definitions of success, therefore they are not general shortcuts to success, but rather a base for the work before, during and even after the systems implementation. The specific circum-stances of each system implementation and organization overall strategy for system and busi-ness development may vary and influence the factors' effects.

    Background: To be able to interpret laboratory values, it is essential to develop population-based reference intervals. A crucial consideration is whether a reference interval should be divided into subpopulations or not, so-called partitioning. There are established methods for deciding whether partitioning should be done or not. However, these methods are only applicable when partitioning into two subpopulations is considered. The primary aim of this study was to suggest a procedure that was also valid for several subpopulations. The method assumes that these subpopulations are Gaussian. Furthermore, a secondary aim was to provide a tailor-made computer program to support calculations. Methods: The fundamental idea is to partition reference intervals if the proportions of the distributions of the subpopulations outside the combined reference limit deviate from the nominal value of 0.025. This is made possible by finding the combined reference interval using an equation solver algorithm. Results: It was found that an equation solver algorithm could easily identify the combined reference interval when combining two or more subpopulations, even if these subpopulations had unequal prevalences. It was also found that this could be done even if the ratio between samples does not reflect the ratio between prevalences. Using this algorithm, it was possible to study whether the proportion outside the combined reference limits in any of several subpopulations deviated from the nominal 0.025 by such a magnitude that partitioning was recommended. When similar figures to those found in earlier studies with other methods were tested, the procedure showed consistent results with these methods. The procedure was also found to be applicable when several subpopulations were considered. As a practical result of the study, a tailor-made computer program was developed and is now provided over the Internet. Conclusions: The suggested procedure could serve as an alternative or complement to existing methods. The procedure provides calculations of the combined reference interval, even if sample fractions do not reflect prevalence fractions. The important advantage with the suggested procedure is the generalisation to the situation when several Gaussian subpopulations, possibly with unequal prevalences, are considered. Finally, since a tailor-made computer program is provided, the procedure is simple to use. © 2006 by Walter de Gruyter.

METHODS: The fundamental idea is to partition reference intervals if the proportions of the distributions of the subpopulations outside the combined reference limit deviate from the nominal value of 0.025. This is made possible by finding the combined reference interval using an equation solver algorithm. RESULTS: It was found that an equation solver algorithm could easily identify the combined reference interval when combining two or more subpopulations, even if these subpopulations had unequal prevalences. It was also found that this could be done even if the ratio between samples does not reflect the ratio between prevalences. Using this algorithm, it was possible to study whether the proportion outside the combined reference limits in any of several subpopulations deviated from the nominal 0.025 by such a magnitude that partitioning was recommended. When similar figures to those found in earlier studies with other methods were tested, the procedure showed consistent results with these methods. The procedure was also found to be applicable when several subpopulations were considered. As a practical result of the study, a tailor-made computer program was developed and is now provided over the Internet. CONCLUSIONS: The suggested procedure could serve as an alternative or complement to existing methods. The procedure provides calculations of the combined reference interval, even if sample fractions do not reflect prevalence fractions. The important advantage with the suggested procedure is the generalisation to the situation when several Gaussian subpopulations, possibly with unequal prevalences, are considered. Finally, since a tailor-made computer program is provided, the procedure is simple to use.

    Abstract [en]

    It is important to identify and understand important factors underpinning the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in schools. And, it is important that ICT is adopted in a sound pedagogical manner. The aim with this study was to suggest a model for the actual use of ICT in schools and how it may be related to important factors such as technological pedagogical expectations. The design of the model was inspired by TAM2 and UTAUT models, but with some modifications. We have developed a model which highlight the pedagogical aspects beyond the technical ones. Furthermore, our suggested model also include the adoption of digital techniques in everyday life as a potential predictor of adoption of ICT at work. The sample consists of 122 teachers and we analyzed the model with a structural equation model. This study contributes with a suggested model including a new construct for measuring expected performance from a technological pedagogical point of view. This new construct was a significant predictor to actual use of ICT in school. Furthermore we also developed a new construct for adoption of ICT in everyday life, which also was a significant predictor to actual use of ICT in school.

    Abstract [en]

    Objectives: To evaluate whether a computer-based decision support system could be useful for the emergency medical system when identifying patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) or life-threatening conditions and thereby improve the allocation of life support level.

    Methods: Patients in the Municipality of Goteborg who dialled the dispatch centre due to chest pain during a period of 3 months. To analyse the relationship between patient characteristics (according to a case record form used during an interview) and the response variables (AMI or life-threatening condition), multivariate logistic regression was used. For each patient, the probability of AMI/life-threatening condition was estimated by the model. We used these probabilities retrospectively to allocate advanced life support or basic life support. This model allocation was then compared with the true allocation made by the dispatchers.

    Results: The sensitivity, that is, the percentage of AMI patients allocated to advanced life support, was 85.7% in relation to the true allocation made by the dispatchers. The corresponding sensitivity regarding allocation made by the model was 92.4% (P=0.17). The specificity was also slightly higher for the model allocation than the dispatcher allocation. Among the 15 patients with AMI who were allocated to basic life support by the dispatchers, nine died (eight during and one after hospitalization). Among the eight patients with AMI allocated to basic life support by the model, only one patient died (in hospital) (P=0.02).

    Conclusion: A computer-based decision support system including a prevalence function could be a valuable tool for allocating the level of life support. The case record form, however, used for the interview can be refined and a model based on a larger sample and confirmed in a prospective study is recommended.

    This paper reports on the experiences from online courses in applied statistics. The courses were designed with the ambition of making studies in statistics, fun, interesting, useful, not that difficult and directly supported the possibility to combine studies and work. When designing the courses we considered three dimensions: "pedagogies","community" and "structure". Experiences after giving a first-year course three times show that the online course succeeds in attracting new studen ts since 90% of the participants would not be able to follow an on-campus course and 62% worked full time.

    The pedagogies were highly appreciated because focusing on the interpretation of results and using computer analyses really changed the prejudices about statistics. Structure and prompt feedback was experienced as important factors. It was possible to combine online studies with employment, and the student completion rate was (84%, 55% and 61%), with a potential for further improvements.

    Human - Technology - Organization (HTO) is a well-established, general unifying concept in the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority (SHK) that represents an approach, knowledge and use of various tools regarding interactions between people, technology and organizational factors. The HTO-perspective is well described in literature but there are few studies on how SHKs staff experiences working according to this method in their investigations. The aim of this study was therefore to describe their HTO-perspective, examine how it is used in the investigations at SHK and describe the investigators experience of working with the HTO-perspective as well as the method's usefulness compared to old methods in accident investigations. A literature study has been conducted in the areas of HTO, Theory of planned behavior (TPB) and safety culture. TPB and safety culture are described in this paper since they highlight the different aspects of a HTO-perspective. The hypothesis was answered by using semi-structured interviews. The interviews were analyzed by a content analysis and themes were identified. Furthermore the material from the interviews was subsequently structured through a Strength – Weakness – Opportunities – Threats analysis (SWOT), i.e. the informants' view on the HTO-perspective was structured based on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats SHKs staff experience that the method has in the investigative work. The informants consisted of two investigators at SHK who 3have worked with accident investigations for a long time in various roles. The results yielded that the investigators had a positive attitude towards conducting investigations according to the HTO-perspective because they feel that this perspective provides them with cross-competence. A flaw is though that the perspective lacks a structured approach. As a result of this, the investigators own experiences and expertise play a major role in the quality of the investigation. As the study's aim is met and the informants are considered to be experts the validity requirements are also fulfilled.

    Undersökningen handlar om gymnasieelevers svårigheter med procentavsnittet i matematik. Syftet var att undersöka vilka svårigheter eleverna har att lösa olika sorters räkneuppgifter av procentkaraktär. Vi ville även veta om det skiljer i svårighet att lösa sifferuppgifter respektive textuppgifter samt hur det är med den matematiska begreppsförståelsen. Studien är gjord på två gymnasieskolor i Västsverige och omfattar 68 elever från fyra olika klasser i årskurs 1 på teknikprogrammet. Samtliga elever har svarat på ett skriftligt test i form av ett diagnostiskt prov och av dessa har sedan 19 elever också intervjuats. Den skriftliga diagnosen bestod av uppgifter av följande fem typer: Att räkna ut delen, då det hela och procenttalet är kända. Att räkna ut det hela, då delen och procenttalet är kända. Elevernas svar har granskats och analyserats med utgångspunkt från Kilpatrick, Swafford och Bradfords (2001) samt Mölleheds (2001) forskning vars arbeten lyfter fram olika färdigheter och påverkansfaktorer som har betydelse för elevernas resultat vid problemlösning i matematik. Vi har funnit att de flesta elever inte har så stora problem när det gäller de enklare uppgifterna. De problem som finns här består mest av missförstånd av texten, låg uppmärksamhet och bristande räkneförmåga. De lite mer krävande uppgifterna avslöjar desto fler svårigheter. Både antalet svårigheter och antalet elever med svårigheter ökar. I diagnosen finner vi exempel på osäkerhet kring Kilpatricks et al. (2001) alla matematiska färdigheter samt flera av Mölleheds (2001) påverkansfaktorer. Svårigheterna består i osäkerhet att räkna på rätt sätt och att tolka det uträknade värdet för att kunna svara på den ställda frågan. En textuppgift med helheter och delar som måste byta relation under lösningen av problemet ställer till bekymmer för många. Ingen av de undersökta eleverna har ritat upp och visualiserat i sina uträkningar vilket är en brist då det hade förenklat förståelsen av texten. Vi har även funnit att det finns problem med att på ett korrekt sätt ställa upp det bråk som räknar ut procenttalet, då delen och det hela är kända. En del elever vill gärna ha den stora delen i nämnaren oavsett fråga. Det finns även brister i den matematiska begreppsförståelsen vilken är av stor betydelse för problemlösning. Skillnaden mellan procent och procentenheter är ett sådant exempel. Begreppet procentenheter har gett stora svårigheter för eleverna att tolka och beräkna liksom behandlingen av olika förändringsfaktorer.

    Home care service helps people who live in their own homes and have difficulties coping with the daily chores, for various reasons. The wider concepts are service and personal care in the home, and the municipality may grant aid, depending on the resolved healthcare, in the daytime, evening and nighttime. The information about how the healthcare is supposed to be performed for the individual is stored both by paper at their homes and digitally in the home care service center. Storing the data in two places means that it occasionally is inconsistent, which can cause problems. Home care service strives towards the concept of pervasive healthcare. Pervasive healthcare means healthcare to anyone, anytime and anywhere. With increasing pressure on financial savings in healthcare, cloud services and pervasive healthcare will be a way to meet these requirements based on that the patients can be cared for in their homes. Cloud services are effective, increases the availability of information, and provides scaleability of hardware and software for the business.

    The aim of the study is to see how home care services may be affected by having their business systems operated as cloud services and the key aspects of the paper is security, privacy and accessibility. The survey is based on a case study conducted in three municipalities home care services and their IT management. The methods used to collect data were mainly interviews and literature study. The empirical data describes home care services as a business, its information and communications systems and how they are hosted, information security, and finally the perception of future opportunities for cloud services in the business of home care service. By using cloud services as business systems the availability of information about patients increase and the staff only have to assume one source of information, which also increases its reliability. When it comes to security of cloud services, the perspective must change from securing the infrastructure to securing the data. However, the security and the confidentiality of the data limits the availability and can be a difficult balancing act for the home care service. Integration with existing systems in the home care service can be a security risk and barrier because the systems cannot currently be integrated into the cloud. Therefor the cloud services should be discussed on a management level as a viable selection of strategy rather than evaluated to solve a specific problem on an operational level.

    Syfte:

    Denna studie syftar till att undersöka om, och i så fall hur, barns förmåga att skriva texter förändras när de får använda datorn som verktyg jämfört med när de skriver för hand, samt att analysera skrivförmåga utifrån ett genusperspektiv. I den kultur vi lever i idag är datorn en självklar artefakt för vuxna människor. Den är på väg in i skolan men har ännu inte blivit en självklar del av skolans kultur. Trageton (2005) förordar att barn borde få skriva sig till läsning men på grund av motoriska svårigheter att skriva och forma bokstäver för hand tar undervisningen ofta sin början med läsning istället. Detta väckte idén om att ta reda på hur datorn påverkar förutsättningarna för en god skrivutveckling. Studien utgick från följande frågeställningar: •Går det att utläsa skillnader i texters innehåll och kvalitet om barn får skriva för hand jämfört med om de skriver på dator? •Finns det skillnader mellan pojkar och flickors förmåga att skriva när de skriver för hand? •Finns det skillnader mellan pojkar och flickors förmåga att skriva när de skriver på dator?

    Forskningsbakgrund:

    I detta stycke beskrivs forskning om den tidiga skriftspråkinlärningen samt Arne Tragetons (2005) forskning om datorns användning vid skrivandet. Även forskning om den motoriska utvecklingen och de motoriska förutsättningarna vid skrivandet tas upp.

    Metod:

    Studien har formen av en experimentell fallstudie där elevers dataskrivna texter har jämförts med deras handskrivna texter och därefter har en jämförelse gjorts utifrån ett genusperspektiv. Studien utgår från ett sociokulturellt perspektiv genom att se på datorn som en artefakt.

    Resultat:

    De mest påtagliga resultaten i studien pekar på att elevernas förmåga att skriva längre berättelser ökar betydligt när de får skriva på datorn. Den största ökningen sågs hos pojkarna som ökade sin textmängd med 123 % (beräknat på medelvärdet), men även flickorna hade en kraftig ökning med 38,5 %. Elevernas förmåga att skriva mer beskrivande texter ökade enormt när de fick använda datorn som verktyg. Pojkarna skrev 280 % fler adjektiv med datorn och flickorna skrev 38,5 % fler adjektiv.

    Virtualization is a concept where several servers will be installed on the same physical machine and because of that they will also share the same hardware. This leads to the hardware using its full capacity, meaning that a company does not have to purchase physical components for each separate server.

    The bachelor thesis intention is to examine two different operating systems, Windows 7 and CentOS, which will act as both host- and guest operating system in four possible combinations. And also how the processing unit handles TCP traffic which is sent via Iperf in form of a data stream to each individual virtual machine.

    The four different combinations got a TCP stream sent to them in the same size as one another during a specific timeframe. Which left an amount of peaks showing the CPU usage in percent. The peaks were noted down and then compared to eachother.

    With the possibilities in this project Windows 7 as a host operating system and CentOS as a guest operating system was the best combination. The opposite, CentOS as host and Windows 7 as guest was the worst combination, utilizing around three times more processing capacity than the best combination

    Advertising is something that we get in touch with on a daily basis and more or less everywhere. Advertising is used in different mediums, such as magazines, television, radio, internet, cellphones et.c. The aim of the present study is to find out if there are any recurrent dissimilarities how advertising is constructed among the mediums regarding rhetorical and semiotical theories. Two different mediums have been chosen for a comparison, printed advertisments versus internetbanners. The study has been based on a total of ten qualitative image analyses. To get a spread among the input material regarding the adverts, five different types of businesses have been chosen from a set of criteria that has been decided for this specific study. From every type of business, one advertisment from magazines or newspapers and one type of internetbanner have been chosen and have resulted in a total of five pair of matches which has been analyzed with an image analysis model. The result of this study clearly showed that there are recurrent dissimilarities among the two analyzed mediums. Adverts in magazines or newspapers contained generally more text than the internetbanners did, the adverts in papers also used more arguments than the internetbanners. The result also showed that the adverts in the papers contained more rhetorical figures than the internetbanners did. One potential reason why there were less text in the internet banners may be due to the phenomena called Banner blindness and the differences of the mediums.

    An increasing number of systems support the use of patient-generated data in patient-provider collaboration.However, there is yet limited understanding of how patient-generated data impact the way healthpersonnel work with data in clinical decision-making processes, and whether patient-generated data mightbe able to support clinical processes, for instance by providing evidence for diagnoses, treatment monitoring,or recovery. In this paper, we explore the use of patient-generated data in clinical decisions in twocase studies. In the first case an App is used by patients in cancer rehabilitation to track their pain levels,frequency of specific events, and symptoms. Rather than requiring patients to remember past events at thetime of the visit, patients can use the App to register events as they happen. In the second case an App isused in conjunction with a set of digital medical devices to track a defined set of parameters in remote carefor patients with chronic conditions. Both Apps are designed with the aim to improve data accuracy andensure data quality. Our findings show that beside gaining data quality and accuracy, patient generateddata work as conversational cues in the context of the interaction between patients and health personnel.This finding is relevant as it shows that patient generated data need to be treated not just as facts but ascues or as an affordance for patient-provider dialogue. Based on this understanding, we identify threedesign implications for Apps for patient-generated data to support patient-provider dialogue.

    longitudinal study of implementation of e-Government at the County Administration of Sweden was analysedcand discussed from a social perspective. Two interview studies at the legal and traffic departments were compared.Interviews were made with decision makers, handling officers and administrative assistants focussing on socialcconsequences of work situations, work processes and quality of e-services to the clients. The MOA-model was used as a frame of reference for the study. According to the analysis, coping and sense making strategies by the respondents increased. e-Government made demands for new competencies for employees and clients. Internal and external digital divides are social consequences of the implementation of e-services. Management increased their focus on efficiency aspects related to e-Government. There is a need to integrate competence of social aspects into the development process of e-Government. The users were aware of the importance of social aspects of IT implementation. There is a need for competence development of social consequences related to IT implementation also for development personnel and different interest groups

    Abstract [en]

    Implementation of e-Government means cultural changes involving changes of attitudes and competences, apart from technological changes. An interview study of a web-based course for issues related to implementation of e-Government at the County Academy of Sweden is described and analysed. The course was developed with a study circle pedagogical approach. Interviews were made with eighteen respondents from different authorities, different geographical locations and different professional roles. The respondents were especially positive to the group discussions of the studied course. The discussions were relevant for support of behaviour changes and competence development related to implementation of e-Government. A study circle approach could be relevant in order to encourage development-oriented learning needed for implementation of e-Government. There is also a need for pedagogical learning of producers and organisers of web-based education in public organisation, in order to make them conscious about the importance of different pedagogical approaches for different education objectives.

The case study has a multi-method approach with the combination of participated observation, interviews and questionnaire. The use of the MOA-E model has contributed to a comprehensive understanding of the case study.

    An evaluation study of the development and test of a work-integrated e-learning course for dealing with official registers at the Swedish County Administration is presented and discussed. An evaluation model MOA-L was used as a frame of reference for the evaluation study, In this model especially the work situation, the work process and the quality of the service are focussed, when a new e-learning course is introduced. The use of the model contributed with an understanding of the norms and routines in the community of practice dealing with official registers. Further evaluation work is needed in order to examine effects of the individual learning on the organisational learning and work culture.

The respondents were very aware of social aspects of eGovernment.  The implementation of eGovernment means a cultural change of attitudes, knowledge and competence for the personnel. Different perspectives from users and providers could be reasons behind neglecting social aspects. The respondents requested a bottom-up strategy of the implementation work. Participation of users in project work and thorough analysis of work culture, work routines before implementation could make focus of implementation work more relevant and make the implementation to a learning process for the users and increase their motivation. A web-based study circle focussing on eGovernment was developed and implemented in the organisation, as a consequence of the results from the interview study. A study circle could be one way of competence development stimulate development-oriented learning by the personnel (compared with adaptive learning). Competence development for eGovernment should be seen as process development where many educational initiatives could be combined in different blended learning situations.

    Implementation of e-Government means cultural changes involving changes of attitudes and competences, apart from technological changes. There is a need for competence development of employees and citizens using relevant educational forms and pedagogical approaches. An interview study of a web-based course for issues related to implementation of e-Government is described and analysed. The course was developed with a study circle pedagogical approach. Interviews were made with eighteen respondents from different authorities, different geographical locations and different professional roles. The respondents were especially positive to the group discussions of the studied course. The discussions were relevant for support of behaviour changes and competence development related to implementation of e-Government. A study circle approach could be relevant in order to encourage development-oriented learning needed for implementation of e-Government. There is also a need for pedagogical learning of producers and organisers of web-based education in public organisation, in order to make them conscious about the importance of different pedagogical approaches for different education objectives.

    A case study focusing on learning outcomes from a web-based course and integration ofn new knowledge into work practices at the County Administration of Sweden is analysed. The study has a process-orientated longitudinal character combining different methodological approaches. The current work situation of the workers was studied using interviews. A questionnaire was distributed to the first hundred learners after they had passed the course. Telephone interviews were then made a month after the course. The respondents were more positive with respect to the usefulness of the course for their work immediately after completing the course, compared with their interview responses a month later. When they answered the questionnaire they also thought it was easier to get time for the course, than they indicated later in the telephone interviews. Likely reasons for this discrepancy are considered. The study shows the risk of obtaining inflated positive judgements of a course when the evaluation is made immediately following course completion. Instead, a processoriented evaluation is recommended, evaluating both the work situation before the course, the comprehension of the course immediately after the course has been passed, and evaluation a month after the course has been passed. Although a majority of the learners had an overall positive judgement of the course, about half of them had not applied the new knowledge to their work, a month after thecourse. A participative approach with discussions in local work groups before and after the course supported by local management, is proposed in order to facilitate integration of knowledge from the course into the work practices.

    In this article two different types of e-learning processes in organisations are presented and discussed; adaptive and development-oriented learning. Both adaptive and development-oriented learning are seen as complementary. Two evaluation studies of IT-mediated learning illustrate these types of learning. Consciousness of these types of learning could lead to appropriate design of web-based courses and the organising of project work, supporting both organisational and individual learning processes.

    A case study of the implementation of a contact centre in a Swedish municipality was analysed and discussed. The MOA-E model was used as a theoretical frame of reference of the study. In the study mainly social consequences from the perspective of the employees were focussed. Semi-structured interviews were made with managers and employees at the contact centre and the governmental agencies. Negative attitudes from handling officers at governmental agencies affected were one of the most difficult problems to solve when the contact centre was implemented. Some reasons behind the negative attitudes were related to fears for loosing work tasks or even loose their jobs and to professionalization struggles. The management had their main focus on the employees at the contact centre during the implementation process compared with the professionals at the governmental agencies. A lack of management attention caused a feeling of inadequacy among some professionals at the governmental agencies. There is a need for more focus from management also on work aspects at the governmental agencies during the implementation process of the contact centre. The management need also to be more aware of social aspects affecting the implementation process. Increased user participation during the implementation could be a way to increase the motivation and lead to more positive attitudes.

    An interview study focussing on experiences of the on-going implementation of eGovernment for the County Administration of Sweden is presented and discussed. The study was made during 2007 in the region of West Gotaland. Eighteen interviews were made with different personnel groups in the traffic and legal departments. The interviews especially focussed on experience of the implementation and social consequences of work situations, work processes and customer services. A new electronic system for dealing with official matters has been implemented at the legal authority. They have also implemented e-services for security guards and foundations. Implementation of e-services for drivers' licence applications was in progress at the traffic authority. According to the results some social consequences are benefits, such as fast, efficient treatment of e-services, facilitating the handling process from both a citizen's and an employee's perspective. But other aspects are barriers, such as risks for a more stressful job, and more impersonal, slow routines for manual applications from citizens and an increased schism among different user groups. Therefore, it is important to integrate knowledge about social aspects into implementation processes, in order to get more overall positive consequences for work situations, work processes and services to the client.

    An internally developed web-based course (Diabas) at the County Administration of Sweden was analysed. The course focussed on dealing with official records in the organisation. The evaluation model MOA-L was used as a theoretical frame of reference and the use of the model was process-oriented. The current work situation was studied before the course. A questionnaire was distributed to the first hundred learners after they had passed the course. A phone interview was then made a month after they had passed the course. The main focus of the evaluation was the usefulness of the course, for the learners’ ordinary work. The respondents were more positive to the usefulness of the course when they answered the questionnaire compared with the phone interviews a month later. They also thought it was easier to get time for the course, when they answered the questionnaire, compared with answers from phone interviews. Probable reasons for this discrepancy are discussed. Some conclusions of the study are that traditional ways of carrying out course evaluations immediately after a course has been passed may not be relevant for evaluation of internal courses at work. The study shows the risk of more positive judgements of the course when the evaluation was made immediately after the course had been passed. Instead a process-oriented evaluation is recommended, evaluating both the work situation before the course, the comprehension of the course immediately after the course has been passed, and also evaluation about a month after the course has been passed in order to examine the relevance of the course for the learners ordinary work. Other important aspects that could affect attitudes towards the course are whether the participation in the course is voluntary or cogent, and whether the contents of the course is properly adjusted to the pre-knowledge level of the student.

    An interactive web-based course was studied with the aim to improve the behaviour of health care professionals when they interact with disabled patients. The course was offered to about 45.000 employees within the health care sector in a region of Sweden. According to a survey most respondents showed a positive attitude towards the course, but only four respondents had changed their behaviour towards disabled due to the course. A qualitative study was then made focussing on the reasons behind the fact that very few of the respondents changed their behaviour after the course, and what aspects did affect the total impact of the course. Aspects that influenced the total impact were engagement of management and co-ordinators, the relevance of the course contents for the work, the organisation of the studies, the aim and marketing of the course, time aspects, and the study form of the course.
