Influence of laser powder bed fusion process parameters on the microstructure of solution heat-treated nickel-based superalloy Alloy 247LC2022In: Materials Characterization, ISSN 1044-5803, E-ISSN 1873-4189, Vol. 183, article id 111612Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this study, Alloy 247LC samples were built with different laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process parameters. The samples were then subjected to solution heat treatment at 1260 °C for 2 h. The grain size of all the samples increased significantly after the heat treatment. The relationship between the process parameters and grain size of the samples was investigated by performing a design of experiment analysis. The results indicated that the laser power was the most significant process parameter that influenced the grain height and aspect ratio. The laser power also significantly influenced the grain width. The as-built and as-built + heat-treated samples with high, medium, and low energy densities were characterized using a field emission gun scanning electron microscope equipped with an electron backscatter diffraction detector. The micrographs revealed that the cells present in the as-built samples disappeared after the heat treatment. Isolated cases of twinning were observed in the grains of the as-built + heat-treated samples. The disappearance of cells, increase in the grain size, and appearance of twins suggested that recrystallization occurred in the alloy after the heat treatment. The occurrence of recrystallization was confirmed by analyzing the grain orientation spread of the alloy, which was lower and more predominantly <1° in the as-built + heat-treated conditions than in the as-built conditions. The microhardness of the as-built + heat-treated samples were high which was plausible because γ’ precipitates were observed in the samples. However, the L-PBF process parameters had a very low correlation with the microhardness of the as-built + heat-treated samples.

The Role of Business Intelligence in Government: A Case Study of a Swedish Municipality Contact Center2012Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The aim of this study is to investigate the role Business Intelligence (BI) can play in government and more specifically at the municipality level. The study aims to investigate how data collected from a municipality Contact Center can be leveraged with the help of a BI solution. The study focuses on the Contact Center at Järfälla Kommun (municipality) and investigates whether a BI implementation can help to realize more effective planning, resource allocation and improved services and e-services. Municipality Contact Centers are becoming an increasingly popular precedent providing municipal residents with a centralized service where they can make inquiries, provide information, lodge complaints or commend actions related to activities within the specific municipality. BI can turn raw data into concrete figures and reports, map patterns and trends and support effective decision making. It can also however be costly and difficult to integrate and face resistance due to perceived complexity. This paper aims to take such notions into consideration and investigate the feasibility of implementing such a solution in the context of a municipality Contact Center.

This paper identifies various benefits and drawbacks from literature which are then modeled into a SWOT framework. In addition, semi-structured interviews are utilized in this study and targeted at stakeholders knowledgeable in the Contact Center, BI, or both. Findings from the SWOT framework will be measured against the findings from the interviews and an analysis of correlations between the two sources will be investigated.

I väntan på organtransplantation: En tillvaro i skärselden2020Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Since the first successful organ transplant in 1954 performed by the surgeon Joseph Murray this procedure has become the most effective treatment of organ failure. Although the majority has a positive attitude towards organ transplantation, the supply does not meet demand. As a result of this the patients sometimes must wait years for a new organ and some of them dies while waiting.

The aim of this study was to describe patients experiences of waiting for an organ transplant and the method used was a literature study.

Result shows that these patients went through physical, psychological and financial changes during the waiting time. Patients described mixed emotions and different ways of perceiving hope. They long for a "normal" life and the waiting gets harder over time. It's essential for the patients that both they and their next of kin gets repeated and continuously information during the waiting time.

UTREDNING AV ACCEPTANS PÅ AUGMENTED REALITY APPLIKATIONER: En kvantitativ undersökning av framtidens teknik2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this study a research has been conducted to find out how consumers experience Augmented Reality applications. This was done to see which underlying factors are behind each individual's experience. Are there any connections between user acceptance and unique participants that determines how they respond to technology? The research has been conducted with quantitative methods and advocates positivism. Surveys has been the method used to gather data about the user and has primarily been done with the face-to-face method. The users answered the survey after they had tested out features in IKEA Place, the test involved them placing out furniture in the application and then numerically rated the experience through the questions which was in the questionnaire. The result shows that the younger target audience retained a higher average value, median. The distribution test reveal that there were less spread on respective factors PU, PEOU and ATU in the younger target audience. While gender does not seem to have any significance to how acceptance is determined on AR-applications. The research reveals that the acceptance is affected in a negative way with increased age.

Män som offer för våld i nära relationer2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Abstract Men are exposed to violence in close relationships in both same-sex and heterosexual relationships. Men who are exposed to violence stated that they were exposed to psychological violence rather than physical violence. Psychological violence can be about verbal attacks, isolation, jealousy, threats of physical violence, threats of divorce and destruction of personal property. Men who have been subjected to violence by their partner may develop mental illness. Most men find it difficult to say that they are exposed to violence because of society's gender norms which say that the man must be strong, independent and have self-confidence.

Aim The aim of this study was to describe men’s experiences after being exposed to violence in close relationships.

Method A literature-based study with systematic searches, in which eight articles were selected.

Results The results have shown that men who are exposed to violence in close relationships isolated themselves, had suicidal thoughts, low self-esteem, increased fear and mental illness. Men also stated that they did not dare to talk about their situation to others around them. This was mainly because others did not trust them, but it also had to do with society's gender norms.

Conclusion Men also fall victim to violence in a close relationship and the impact can mean great psychological strain on the man. Isolation, fear, self-esteem, suicidal thoughts and mental illness were identified in the results. The most common consequences after the violence were isolation and fear. When it comes to mental illness, post-traumatic stress disorder was the most common.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Mental illness is defined differently depending on the context, ranging from symptoms of anxiety and depression to schizophrenia. Mental illness among the population has increased since 1990. A survey done by the Central Bureau of Statistics in Sweden (2006) shows that issues such as anxiety are more common now than before. Twenty-three percent of women aged 16-84 said they had experienced symptoms of anxiety. Thirteen percent of the men aged 16-64 said they had experienced the same. Pre-conceived notions often meet people with mental health issues and there is a stigma surrounding them and their situation.

Aim: The aim of the study was to examine how patients with mental illness experience their contact with health care professionals in health care.

Method: The study was designed as a literature based study. Eleven articles were analyzed, nine articles were found by a systematic search and two articles were found in an unsystematic search.

Results: This study showed two main themes and eight subthemes. The main themes were patients desire to have a good relationship and good interaction with health care professionals. The subthemes were patient confidence in health care professionals, a dedicated staff, patients desire to get person-centered care and to feel involved, to have good continuity in their health care and to have highly available health care professionals around them, to have a good dialogue, be actively listened to, competent health care professionals and being labeled.

Conclusion: The conclusion is that patients that lack trust, commitment from health care professionals or continuity had bad experiences with the health care system. Patients needed to have a mutual relationship with the health care staff to have a good experience with the health care system.

Young Swedish adults' attitudes towards offshoring2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Offshoring, meaning the movement of business operations to foreign countries, has recently grown. It provides the company with opportunities which are not available domestically, but it also bears risks. The public has recently blamed the strategy of offshoring for weak growth of domestic economy, decreasing competitiveness, salary stagnation, job losses, lower worker morale, and poverty. As a consequence, a firm carrying out offshoring activities could suffer from consumers' negative attitudes towards offshoring, as the consumers are unwilling to buy their products/services or take actions against the company.

This study addresses the Swedish young adults' attitudes towards offshoring. Young adults are playing an important role in economy as consumers, future workers, innovators, leaders and decision makers. The study investigates the factors that were underlying the formation of attitudes towards offshoring. We focused especially on three factors, namely consumer ethnocentrism, economic threat and quality beliefs.

In order to address these issues, a quantitative research approach was applied and primary data were collected. The variables for the online survey were mainly distilled from Durvasula and Lysonski (2009) as well Grappi, Romani and Bagozzi (2013).

The gathered data have been analyzed via the software of SPSS by performing correlation tests and analyzing descriptive statistic measures. The results indicated that Swedish young adults had neutral attitudes towards offshoring. We also found that two of the studied factors, consumer ethnocentrism and economic threat, were vital in the formation of the attitudes towards offshoring.

Hotet Ransomware mot företag, myndigheter och kommuner2022Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Ransomware has increased in recent years, which has caused many companies devastating consequences. Incidents with ransomware can seriously affect business processes and leave companies without the data needed to run and deliver mission-critical services.

This thesis is based on how to prioritize the threat of Ransomware in companies, authorities and municipalities. After years in the media about Ransomware attacks that have taken place against Swedish companies and authorities, this essay examines how well prepared and aware companies and authorities are about Ransomware attacks, everything from whether an attack has taken place, how they experience it and what solutions they have used to solve it.

Based on the literature study and investigation we have conducted about Ransomware attacks and in combination with the interview study, conclusions can be drawn that with various organizations in both the private and the public sector, there are different views and experiences about an increased threat. But both the public and private sectors have plans, routines and strategies against Ransomware-attacks.

Colonial discourse in development aid publications: A Comparative study of the UK and Sweden2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis is performed as a comparative small-N study making use of post-colonial theory aiming to analyse whether, and if so how, Western government agencies working in the field of 'development assistance' reinforce colonial stereotypes by availing colonial discourse. Post-colonial and discourse theory are used to challenge colonial theory, allowing to break the binary opposition and power structures of the Self and the Other, opening a third space where hybrid identities can be acknowledged.

With Critical Discourse Analysis serving as a tool in the construction of a text analytical method applied to the documents published by the Swedish governmental development agency, Sida and the British Department for International Development (DFID) to examine whether and how they (re-)produce colonial discourse in their publications.

The monumental role of Britain in the colonisation of lands and people versus Sweden's comparatively small and short territorial possession of colonies, and especially how both nations relate differently to their colonial past represented in contemporary discourse, makes this paper an interesting comparative study. The research contributes to knowledge on how Western governmental development agencies sustain and/or contest remnants of colonial structures embedded and projected through discourse.

The main findings of this study are that both the DFID and Sida engage in and (re-)produce CD in their publications. However, to a certain extent they do differ, with Sida making use of non-CD to a significantly larger extent than the DFID.

Enhancing Vulnerability Management in Large Organisations through Machine Learning - Based Prioritisation: A Case Study2023Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The number of vulnerabilities is increasing daily, and organisations are flooded by vulnerabilities in their IT environment. The increasing number of vulnerabilities in organisations' IT environments presents a significant challenge, requiring effective identification and prioritisation of critical vulnerabilities. Different techniques exist to this date, such as CVSS scoring or Risk-based scoring from solution providers to perform prioritisation of vulnerabilities. However, large industries with extensive assets often face difficulty in managing and fixing a large pool of vulnerabilities, as traditional techniques tend to classify numerous vulnerabilities as high or critical. This study proposes a machine learning model based on the K-means++clustering technique that leverages vulnerability data and asset financial value assessments to find patterns within vulnerability and group the most critical vulnerabilities. Our study successfully determined a group of the most critical vulnerabilities from a sample dataset of vulnerabilities from one of the large organisations. By considering the financial value of assets, our solution demonstrates a more accurate prioritisation, enabling organisations to allocate resources effectively and address the most critical vulnerabilities first. This study enhances vulnerability management practices in large organisations and serves as a foundation for further research and development in vulnerability prioritisation using machine learning techniques

Libyan Conflict in the eyes of Arab Media: A comparative study of how Al- Jazeera & Al- Arabiya news agencies represented the fighting groups in Libyan conflict and their claim to be the legitimate government2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The second civil war in Libya has been ongoing since 2014, where the two administrations, GNA and LNA, have been fighting each other for the power in Libya where many foreign powers including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have been actively supporting different sides and their claim to legitimacy.

The aim of this research is to analyze how Al-Jazeera and Al- Arabiya, two state-controlled news agencies from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, represented the two fighting groups in the Libyan civil war and their claim to be the legitimate government. In this study, we use framing theory as the central theory to conduct our investigation. To answer our research question effectively, we have divided our frames into two further categories, behavior frame & representation (political) frame, which are used for our analysis.

Our research is a comparative case study as we have investigated the differences between AlArabiya and Al Jazeera's framing of the two fighting groups in the second Libyan civil war.

Our findings in this research indicated that both state operated news outlets framed the supported and opposite sides in different ways, which also reflected their respective countries' foreign policy agendas. Hence their state-controlled medias Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya and their representation of the two fighting groups and their claim to be the legitimate government in Libya were significantly different in terms of which actor is legitimate, but similar in terms of the tools/concepts they implemented to delegitimize the other side.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Research have shown children to be a large patient group within the health care sector. Nurses, should therefore, have knowledge about how to individually adapt meetings so it will be a positive experience for the child, the parents, and for themselves. Historically, this has not been the case and created immense care suffering for several families.

Aim: The aim of this study was to illuminate nurses' experiences of meeting children and their parents within the health care sector.

Method: A method to contribute to evidence-based nursing with ground in analysis of qualitative research was performed. An analysis of nine scientific articles was carried out. The analysis resulted in three main themes and eight subthemes.

Results: The main themes were: "To see the child as an individual", "to built trust", and "knowledge and experience are crucial". Knowledge were fundamental for creating a positive meeting.

Conclusion: By individually adapting communication to the child and the parents, good conditions allowed for a trusting relationship to emerge. Time was needed to create a safe and trusting relationship. However, it did not always exist. With knowledge and experience the nurse could see the child as an individual and adapt the meeting to the child. It was the responsibility of the nurse to gain the necessary knowledge, and to reflect with colleagues was seen as an important source to attain new knowledge.

    Abstract [en]

The use of mobile devices such as cellular phones and tablets have over the years risen in popularity. This increases the need to develop software that is suitable for these devices (Awad, El-Shihy, 2014). But because of the range of different platforms such as PC-desktops, tablets and mobile phones, app development has become more difficult. As companies want to reach out to as many users as possible the resources are not always there to meet the demand for that type of development. The aim of this study is to explore how developers and companies' reason when facing a choice between different technologies for web development, by examining how a decision is made as well as the conditions that govern that choice. In order to explore this, we have conducted interviews with four different companies and a total of eight interviewees with different roles such as web developer, IT-architect and CEO.

Through our interviews we have concluded that first and foremost it is important to get information of new technology and then the acceptance of new technology. Second it is important to work out the conditions that are required for new technology, and finally to make the right decision when choosing of new technology. In that decision you must consider hard conditions and soft conditions where hard conditions pertain to technical aspects such as performance and effectiveness while the soft conditions refer to staff and their acceptance of new technology.

Furthermore, this study has shown that staff is a very important pillar for decision making, it is after all they in the end who will be working with the new technology and therefore their acceptance of the technologies ease of use and usefulness is vital. However, this study has shown that the size of a company has an effect on the acceptance of new technology with the developers. Despite companies using the same decision strategy the size of the company can mean a different way to communicate within the company. In this study we observed that in a larger company the developers had little to no insight into the decision process and you had to work with what you got. Whereas in smaller companies we observed that developers had much more insight and possibilities to have their voices heard because of the ability to communicate and the closeness to the decision makers. Further it was shown that it was not only important to have the current staff in mind but also future staff, with this we mean that companies have to make themselves an attractive place to work with choices of technology that will attract new developers.

Progress Of The Ess Proton Beam Imaging Systems2022In: LINAC2022, ACoW Publishing , 2022, p. 395-398Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The ESS Target Proton Beam Imaging Systems has the objective to image the 5 MW ESS proton beam as it entersthe spallation target. The imaging systems has to operate in a harsh radiation environment, leading to a number of challenges : development of radiation hard photon sources, long and aperture-restricted optical paths and fast electronics required to provide rapid information in case of beam anomalies. This paper outlines how main challenges of the imaging systems have been addressed, and the status of deployment as ESS gets closer to beam.

Det finns ingen mall: Lärares perspektiv på inkludering och delaktighet för elever med ADHD2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Ledares kommunikation ur ett internt marknadsföringsperspektiv: Främjande av medarbetarnas motivation2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

It Takes Two to Tango: En studie om organisationer i finans och försäkringsbranschen och deras syn på att behålla medarbetare2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

"How does organizational management keep their employees?" -Of what significance are motivational factors?

Today, many organizations have high employee turnover which is often seen as a problem. When an organization has invested time and resources in recruitment, it still requires work on personnel matters. In order to retain employees within organizations further work is needed which organizations should be aware of. The purpose of this study is to find out how the management work with motivation as a factor to keep existing employees. The study aims to find out how they motivate employees to give greater job satisfaction and thus get people not wanting to leave the organization. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, we have with a qualitative approach conducted five in-depth interviews. The respondents of these interviews did all have a leadership position in the financial or insurance business. The empirical data shows how the various leaders complete their recruitments and how they motivate individuals. All respondents got the opportunity to, with their own words, describe what motivation is for them. The empirical data also shows which reward systems these organizations use and what kind of effect it has. Earlier research shows what kind of employee costs there are and what it takes to retain existing employees within the organization. Previous research also shows that there is a disagreement between authors about what motivation is, how it is fulfilled and whom that is responsible for maintaining motivation. The result shows that there are specific motivational factors that can determine whether employees stay or choose to give their notice. Recruitment is also shown to be significant in the work on retaining employees.

Sambandet mellan arbetsengagemang och personlighetsdragen i Big Five2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Fritidslärarnas perspektiv på rastverksamhet: En intervjuundersökning2019Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Humour has been a part of mankind since ancient time and affects the human being in several ways. Communication is essential in creating a relationship and humour may improve the possibility that a nurse and a patient succeed in building a therapeutic relationship.

Aim: The aim of this literature review was to illuminate humour in the therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient.

Method: The method used was a literature review. Systematic searches were conducted in the databases Cinahl and PubMed where eight articles were found, a ninth article was found by a non-systematic search. The articles were then analyzed through Friberg's five-step model for literature reviews.

Results: Four themes occurred. Humour as a brick in building a bridge in the therapeutic relationship, Experiences and effects of humour in the therapeutic relationship, Barriers and fears when using humour in the therapeutic relationship and Gender and humour in the therapeutic relationship. The result suggests that humour is useful in building a therapeutic relationship and is being used frequently, yet there are times when nurses hesitate to use humour due to the lack of experience. There also occurred a difference in how humour is used due to the gender of the patient.

Conclusion: Humour is mainly a positive experience in the therapeutic relationship and should be used as it makes communication easier and makes it easier for nurses and patients to bond. The way using humour differs in gender must be considered by the nurse.

RatSLAM with Viso2: Implementation of alternative monocular odometer2017Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this work, a ROS (Robot Operating System) version of Open RatSLAM, [1] [2], was tested with Viso2 [3] as an alternative monocular odometer. A land based rover [4] was used to perform data acquisition and a remote control tool was developed to facilitate this procedure, implemented as ROS nodes on both Ubuntu 16.04 and on Android 7.0.An additional requirement that comes from using Viso2 is the need for camera information together with the image stream, which might require camera calibration. A ROS node to manually add this camera information was made as well as a node to change the generated odometry message from Viso2 to a form that RatSLAM uses. The implemented odometer uses feature tracking to estimate motion, which is fundamentally different to matching intensity profiles which the original method does and can hence be used when different properties of the visual odometry function is desired. From experiments, it was seen that the feature tracking method from Viso2 generated amore robust motion estimate in terms of real world scale and it was also able to better handle environments of varying illumination or that contains large continuous surfaces of the same colour. However, the feature tracking may give slight variations in the generated data upon successive runs due to the random selection of features to track. Since the structure of RatSLAM gives the system ability to make loop closures even with large differences in position, an alternative odometry does not necessarily give a significant improvement in performance of the system in environments that the original system operates well in. Even though both algorithms show difficulty with estimating fast rotations, especially when the camera view contains areas with few features, the performance improvement in Viso2 together with its ability to better maintain the real-world scale motivates its usefulness. The source code, as well as instructions for installation and usage is public

The implemented odometer uses feature tracking to estimate motion, which is fundamentally different to matching intensity profiles which the original method does and can hence be used when different properties of the visual odometry function is desired. From experiments, it was seen that the feature tracking method from Viso2 generated a more robust motion estimate in terms of real world scale and it was also able to better handle environments of varying illumination or that contains large continuous surfaces of the same colour. The source code, as well as instructions for installation and usage is public.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this examination is to study and analyze whether two different housing companies in Trollhättan, Sweden, put their tenants in focus or not. Literature based on facility management, with emphasis in customer orientation and service management, has been used to enhance the authors’ knowledge base. Interviews with the chosen housing companies and questionnaires targeted to tenants have been implemented to proceed and to answer the general question of this examination. A comparison between the housing companies will evaluate if there is any difference between a company for public utility, Eidar, and one whom is owned privately, Lundqvist. The results of the data shows, from some angles, a great variation in tenants’ opinions considering their experiences regarding having a safe home, being taken seriously by their housing company and the possibility to suit their apartment along with personal wishes and/or needs. The main question is if the tenant feels him being in focus by the housing company. The analysis illuminates and discusses the results, which will lead to a conclusion. According to this study housing companies only partly keep their tenants in focus and the utility company seems to be less focused on the customers than the private-owned one.

Digital innovations in L2 motivation: Harnessing the power of the Ideal L2 Self2018In: System (Linköping), ISSN 0346-251X, E-ISSN 1879-3282, Vol. 78, p. 173-185Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Sustained motivation is crucial to learning a second language (L2), and one way to support this can be through the mental visualisation of ideal L2 selves (Dörnyei & Kubanyiova, 2014). This paper reports on an exploratory study which investigated the possibility of using technology to create representations of language learners' ideal L2 selves digitally. Nine Chinese learners of L2 English were invited to three semi-structured interviews to discuss their ideal L2 selves and their future language goals, as well as their opinions on several different technological approaches to representing their ideal L2 selves. Three approaches were shown to participants: (a) 2D and 3D animations, (b) Facial Overlay, and (c) Facial Mask. Within these, several iterations were also included (e.g. with/without background or context). Results indicate that 3D animation currently offers the best approach in terms of realism and animation of facial features, and improvements to Facial Overlay could lead to beneficial results in the future. Approaches using the 2D animations and the Facial Mask approach appeared to have little future potential. The descriptive details of learners' ideal L2 selves also provide preliminary directions for the development of content that might be included in future technology-based interventions.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of our study was to describe, compare and analyze how representatives from different professions in high school look upon their experiences of the schools work with helping students with mental health issues as well as preventing mental illness among the students. In our study we chose to use a qualitative approach by conducting interviews since we wanted to receive views from the representatives from different professions regarding the high schools work with mental illness. We interviewed six people who represented different professions in school and they worked at two different high schools. In the research we used it appears that collaboration and discretion were significant components regarding the schools work with mental illness. In our study we find that the Student Health Care have a central role in the work with mental illness among the students, but other professional groups seem to have an important role as well. The different professional groups collaborates in the work with mental illness and how collaboration function appears to affect the discretion of the professionals in their work.

    Abstract [en]

In today's society, everything is expected proceed quickly, easily and smoothly. This also applies to websites on the Internet. When you visit a website, you want thewebsite to be easily accessible and you also want to find what you are looking for quickly. It is therefore important that the menu is easy to navigate. The menu is very important for the experience of the website, as you use the menu to navigate through the website. The menu will guide users through the website, will help them plan their actions, will determine where they are and will help them find their way back if they would get lost.In this study, we have created and designed a website with menus of four different types. Our study is based on a number of theories about cognition, perception, usability and effectivity together with theories about how to create a good menu. We will use these theories in our study to determine which of the menus is the most effective. To find out which menu is the most effective, test participants were asked to conduct a usability test. During the usability test, we tested the effectivity of themenus by measuring the amount of time required by the test participants to perform different tasks, as well as how many clicks were required and how frustrated the test participants became. Then, we compared how the different menus performed inrelation to each other. The test participants were also asked to respond to aquestionnaire where they subjectively described their thoughts on the menus. Our results from this study can be used as guidelines when choosing which type of menu to use on a website, where navigation is expected to be as effective as possible. Our results show that the horizontal menu is the most effective one of the different menus we have tested. However, which menu is the most effective in a given situation or on a given website depends on many factors, and thus, the horizontal menu is not always preferable to use on every website.

Den politiska visionen: Kunskapsdiskrepans i kommunal samhällsutveckling2022Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 30 credits / 45 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The background to this study lies in a problem that was discovered during the research internship on which this compilation thesis is based on. Namely, a knowledge gap between the politicians and the civil servants in a municipality, this study has chosen to call it a knowledge discrepancy. Research and theory on the relationship between politicians and civil servants has shown that various problems and dilemmas arise between politicians and civil servants in both municipalities and other politically steered organisations. Therefore, it is important to point out that this knowledge discrepancy should not be seen as unique to a specific municipality, but rather to politically steered organisations in general. The purpose of this study is to investigate knowledge perspectives on municipal developmentin relation to an evidence-based policy perspective. To concretize the formulation of the problem, the study examines how civil servants view the municipality's political vision for sustainable local development. By interviewing civil servants who work with sustainable local development, the study analyses what the civil servants consider relevant and possible, in relation to the municipality's political vision. As a theoretical framework and perspective, the study uses an evidence-based policy perspective as a starting point to highlight different perspectives in relation to the political goals. Based on an evidence-based policy perspective, the results of the study can be divided into a discussion around three different categories, namely those of whether a goal is based on facts, knowledge and research, that there is a relevant need, and whether the goal is feasible. These three categories may also represent conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between politics and civil servants. This conflict can also be described as a discrepancy between politics and civil servants. What this study has concluded is that, in general, the goals have in most cases according to the civil servants been well supported by facts, knowledge and research. And there has been a relevant need for most of the goals, and they should be given high priority by the municipality. However, where discussion or a discrepancy often arose is about the feasibility of the goals. In this, there is a discrepancy between the political goal and the civil servant’s knowledge of feasibility, this could be considered a knowledge discrepancy regarding feasibility between civil servants and the political goals.

    Abstract [en]

In this thesis, the effects of Covid-19 on biotechnological companies are being studied. Five companies are analyzed: AstraZeneca PLC (AstraZeneca), Pfizer, Novavax, Modena, and Janssen, an affiliate of Johnson & Johnson. Where we analyze Abnormal returns these five companies for the period between December 20, 2018, to January 28, 2020. We use the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) to calculate the alpha and beta measurements for the five companies. The results shows that abnormal returns were observed before and after the event date and continue to record mild increases in the long run. In addition, it was observed that there existed positive significant abnormal returns in the short run in Pfizer, Novax, Johnson & Johnson, and AstraZeneca. Moderna recorded positive abnormal returns, but they were not significant. We conclude that the market disruption made it difficult to anticipate financial markets during the coronavirus pandemic. Scientist and governments paid attention to the spread and supported the development these select companies were making, with the hope of producing vaccines and medicines to help curb the pandemic.

Patienters upplevelser av egenvård vid diabetes typ 2: En litteraturbaserad studie2023Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Background

Diabetes type 2 is a public health problem that has increased throughout the world. Around 536.6 million people worldwide are affected by diabetes of which 95 % have diabetes type 2. In Sweden, there are approximately 460 000 people that have the diabetes type 2. Self- care is there for an important part of the treatment. Lifestyle changes are crucial for the health and well-being of individuals with Diabetes type 2, including dietary modifications and increased physical activity. By taking care of oneself through lifestyle changes, the risk of severe complications can be reduced.

    Aim

The aim of this study was to describe patients experiences of self- care in diabetes type 2.

    Method

A literature review based on ten qualitative scientific articles, retrieved from databases PubMed and Cinahl. The literature has been analyzed based on Fribergs five-step analysis, which resulted in two themes and five subthemes. Results the primary factor, self-care is susceptible to emotional influences and concerns regarding the possibility of future complications. Patients perceived changes in physical activity and diet as challenging, influenced by their motivation and cultural background. Support and motivation from healthcare providers, family members, and other social connections can foster self-care. Being well-informed about their condition held significant importance. By exhibiting empathy towards each patient's unique encounter with diabetes, we can empower them to take charge of their own care.

    Conclusion

Patients with type 2 diabetes have different experiences and perceptions of self-care. Modified diet and increased physical activity can be both positive and negative experiences. Challenges with physical activity and barriers related to lifestyle and culture affect the implementation of changes. Understanding the importance of lifestyle modifications is crucial for patients' self-care. Social and professional support plays a significant role in helping patients manage these changes. Person-centered care and nursing support are essential for promoting health and self-care in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

The Cost of Dementia in Sweden 2020: A Cost of Illness study on Dementia in Sweden2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis is to study what Dementia is costing the society in Sweden year 2020 and how the relationship between specialized care costs and outside sources relates to each other. In this study we use the economic model from Jo (2014) and the Two-Part model by Sauzet et al (2019). A binary logistic regression attempts to examine a potential relationship between specialized care costs and outside sources. We use the human capital approach to shed light on total care costs for Dementia and establish a Cost of Illness study. The results show an estimation that Dementia costed Sweden 68,5 billion SEK in 2020 and the regression establishes that there is a relationship between specialized costs and outside sources, for example age affecting the cost of being a dementia patient more than where you live.

Verktyg för identifiering av tidsåtgång för materialhantering2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

We have studied the perceived connection between health care benefits, motivation and performance. The purpose of this study was to examine if there is a relationship between the use of health care benefits, motivation and performance.

The basis of this essay, which is a part of the Human resource costing and accounting program at University West, is a survey that was sent to staff members at a university in Västra Götaland. The method that we chose to work with was a qualitative method, which means that we tried to understand the recipients' answers and interpret them.

150 employees were randomly selected to take part in our study, the purpose was to see if our preconceptions regarding motivation and health care benefits were true.

In the theory portion of our essay we presented a variation of theories regarding motivation, e.g. Herzberg theory (1966) and Maslows theory (1987). We also included different studies that had been done in various countries to help us interpret the results.

The results portion of this essay is a summary of the answers that we got in our surveys. The recipients of the surveys stated that they believe that there is a relationship between the use of health care benefits, motivation and performance. Several respondents thought that the use of health care benefits affected their motivation and performance. Although the respondents stated that they would have liked to see the employer send out more information about this. We have a few recommendations to the employer regarding what they can do to increase the participation in health promotion.

Crack density and microhardness of Alloy 247LC manufactured by laser powder bed fusion2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Additive manufacturing (AM) enables the manufacturing of complex geometries, with beneficial mechanical properties in components used for aircraft and gas turbines applications. Alloy 247LC produced using laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF)is susceptible to cracking during the production process and must be post-processed using hot isostatic pressing (HIP), in addition to solution heat treatment (ST) and ageing heat treatmentsto heal cracks and attain the desired properties. The purpose of this study is to investigate L-PBF Alloy 247LC in both its as-built and as-built + heat-treated states(HIP and HIP + ST + ageing). Cracks, and microhardness were mainly studied. Sections cut in the built direction and transverse to the built direction were investigated in all the conditions i.e. in as-built and heat-treated states. The grains in the Z-Y direction are columnar and orientated in the build direction, while the grains in the X-Y plane are equiaxed. During the heat-treatments of the samples, substantial grain growth occurred indicating recrystallization. The cracks density appeared to be higher in the X-Y plane compared to the Z-Y plane. Cracks were absent after HIP. The microhardness appearedto be higher in the Z-Y plane compared to the X-Y plane in both low and high indentation load. This indicates anisotropy. In addition, low indentation load produced higher microhardness than a higher indentation load. This was observed in both the X-Y and Z-Y planes. It was also observed in the as-built and heat-treated conditions. HIP conditions had lower microhardness values than both the as-built and HIP + ST + Aged conditions. Microhardness values in the as-built is similar to those of the HIP + ST + Aged conditionswhich suggests that γ' does exist in the as-built state.

The Impact of Accounting records on the performance of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Accounting record keeping by Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (SMEs) is essential to many developing countries. Since it enables a country in its strategic formulation and implementation of national development policies and plans. Previous research indicates that despite the importance of record keeping, most SMEs in developing countries such as Ghana do not keep accounting records. The purpose of this study is to generate knowledge about the impact of accounting record keeping on the performance of SMEs. To fulfil this purpose, a quantitative analysis was done based on the impact accounting record has on the performance of SMEs in Ghana. Quantitative method was used to collect data using structured questionnaire. The study used descriptive statistics, and Pearson correlation to determine the relationship between the accounting record keeping and performance. Findings from the study indicates that there is a significance positive strong relationship between accounting record keeping and performance of SMEs. This study shows that most SME owners perceived accounting record keeping and performance has a positive relationship. The study further confirms that keeping accounting records has a strong impact on the performance of the business just like previous research shown.

Predikteringsmodell för berörings- och stegspänningar vid enfasig jordslutning i högspänningsnät2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Robotmanipulering med Leap Motion: För små och medelstora företag2016Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

On-line programming of industrial robots is time consuming and requires experience in robot programming. Due to this fact, small and medium sized enterprises are reserved about the implementation of robots in production. Ongoing research in the field is focused on finding more intuitive interfaces and methods for programming to make the interaction with robots more natural and intuitive. This master thesis presents a method for manipulation of industrial robots utilizing an external device other than the traditional teach pendant. The base of the method is a PC application which handles the program logic and the communication between an external device and an ABB robot. The program logic is designed to be modular in order to allow customization of the method, both in terms of its functions and the type of external device that is used for the method.

Since gestures are one of the most common forms of communication between humans, it is interesting to investigate gestures for the purpose to make manipulation of industrial robots more intuitive. Therefore, a Leap Motion controller is presented as an example of an external device which could be used as an alternative to the teach pendant. The Leap Motion controller is specialised on hand and finger position tracking with both good absolute accuracy and precision. Further, its associated Software Development Kit (SDK) has the capabilities which are required to enable implementation of a teach pendants most fundamental functionalities. Results obtained by a user test show that the developed application is both easy and fast to use but has poor robustness.

    Abstract [en]

Creativity is a popular term that frequently occurs in the working life. Despite its popularity, the possibility to be creative varies a lot between work places, and many employees feel that they do not have a creative outlet in their work role. The purpose of the present study was to examine how different conditions could affect creativity. The two questions that this study intended to answer was: a) Can individuals' creative performance be manipulated by performance requirements during explicit time constraint? b) Can individuals' self-rated creativity be manipulated by performance requirements during explicit time constraint? An experimental study was conducted with a total of 89 participants randomly distributed into two groups. Experimental group 1 had a total of 47 participants, of which 23 women (48.9%) and Experimental group 2 had a total of 42 participants, of which 15 women (35.7%). The experiments were conducted individually with one participant at a time. The measuring instruments used were Guilford's (1967) Alternative Uses Task to measure creativity and Mini-IPIP6 to control for personality. The current item used in Alternative Uses Task was a coffee mug that the participants were assigned to write down as many alternative uses for as possible. Experimental group 1 had a performance requirement to write down a minimum of 15 alternative uses and an explicit time constraint. Experimental group 2 did the same task, but without performance requirement and no explicit time constraint. The collected data was analysed with IBM SPSS and the tools used for the analyses was Pearson's correlation (r), independent t-test and Repeated Measures ANOVA. The results showed a) that Experimental group 1 produced a higher number of creative ideas than Experimental group 2, but that Experimental group 2 had a significantly higher creative quality on their ideas than Experimental group 1. Further the results showed b) that it was not possible to manipulate the self-rated creativity when the personality trait Openness was controlled for.
