Att arbeta med barn till föräldrar med alkoholproblematik: De yrkesverksammas upplevelser och erfarenheter2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The comprehensive aim of the study was to highlight the knowledge and experiences of professionals working with children of parents with alcohol problems and to find out how the work with support group activities can facilitate these children's situation. The authors wanted to find out how the professionals experienced the situation of these children and how they can be affected by the environment they live in, but also how the work of discovering these children could be improved and how interaction with other actors could contribute to a healthier situation in these children's environment. A qualitative approach was chosen to capture the personal knowledge and experiences of the professionals . A semi-structured interview was used with the help of an interview guide. The interviews were conducted with seven informants, five of them were women and two were men. In the analysis, a thematic analysis was used and focused on the coding and development of themes. The results showed primarily how the professionals worked with the families and the importance of detecting the children early for correct actions to be taken. The big problem was to find the children, as it does not always seem so clear when a child is in need. The themes that best explained the outcome of the study were Children and the parents in the problematic everyday life, Seeing the Children and Protecting Their Wellbeing and Crucial Factors in a Good Approach to the Children.

    Abstract [en]

The ever-increasing competition on the market in the manufacturing industry places new demands on the manufacturing industry to streamline its production. Maintaining the production operations for manufacturing industry is important in order to remain competitive. If a machine stops working, it may cause major costs in both repair and downtime. Driving a machine until it breaks before performing maintenance is not a sustainable maintenance work, the machine must be serviced before the error occurs. Scheduled maintenance can make improvement to this, but may also be resource-intensive. The machines need to be constantly monitored and maintenance should be performed when monitoring systems show trends that the machine condition deteriorates. This essay aims at studying the phenomenon of ”Predictive Maintenance” to see what opportunities advanced data collection and analysis technologies have for a manufacturing industry. The essay was conducted through interviews at the company GKN in Trollhättan, which is active in manufacturing for aircraft engines and other air components. The result has also been compared with previous research in the field, which describes computer-driven maintenance work techniques. This was to find out how a manufacturing industry can work proactively with data-driven maintenance strategies to prevent, in time, production failure. The result shows that there are advanced technologies that can send data using sensor technology, then use complex algorithms that analyze the sensor data to prevent production errors occurring. Applying the techniques to GKN is likely to increase their proactive possibilities, but the results from the GKN interviews indicate that there are more challenges than choosing a system for preventive maintenance. It was found in the interviews that there is a lack of communication in the need for a system solution, that the knowledge of the machines is limited to the operators and that the studied company lacks experience in analyzing data.

Pedagogisk dokumentation i förskolan: En studie om hur sex pedagoger förhåller sig till pedagogisk dokumentation2013Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Bakgrund

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Each year, over one million people around the world die as a result of suicide. About 1500 of those are in Sweden. In each case an estimated six kindred’s are to be affected. These people are in great need of support. Despite this, research shows that nurses experience difficulties to support the suicide survivors. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe kindred’s experiences after the loss of someone close as a result of suicide. Method: In order to capture the kindred’s experience of losing someone close as a result of suicide, a literature-based study were chosen, where nine scientific qualitative articles were analyzed. Results: The results are presented in four different themes, and eight subthemes, which all highlights kindred’s experience of losing someone close as a result of suicide. The themes where to feel an overwhelming grief; to feel judged by others and themselves; to feel the need of support; that life changes. Conclusion: Being related to someone who has died as a result of suicide causes great suffering and a changed life-world. The following study shows that most suicide survivors don’t get the support they need after the suicide. A better understanding of the suicide survivor’s experiences may lead to improved care and support. To prevent the suffering and to support the kindred’s health process this study shows that a caring science way of caring is required. Thus it applies to each nurse to be open and responsive to each individual’s life-world and its ambiguity

    Abstract [en]

This study treats the judgement of graphic designers, where the purpose was to investigate at what extent they apply academic knowledge to their daily design assessments. Through a qualitative study constructed of semi structured interviews with empiricism collected from five graphic designers, the study aimed to account for the designers’ approach to academic and experience-based knowledge in relation to their own judgement.

Academic knowledge is highlighted in the study as a central part in a greater understanding of graphic design and its processes.  The designers’ demonstrates an overall approach, emphasizing judgment as a tool in the process of creating their own design work. The designers recounts academic knowledge as a part of their self, thus not needing to be defined to be able to rely on it. This enables for a quicker and more precise process in their design work. Furthermore the study reveals a gap where the respondents with longer experience recounts that the majority of their design work is based on judgments and intuition rather than previously acquired academic knowledge. The study concludes that graphic designers emphasize the importance of previous knowledge however they also consider it essential to rely on their own judgment. The knowledge underlying their judgment change over time, contributing to a deeper understanding of what is considered visually and communicatively appealing. Finally the study indicates a strong link between the development of judgment and new experiences. Thus, it is possible to see how the judgment, used by graphic designers, is based on previo

Socialpedagogik i tvångsvård: professionellas syn på delaktighet och motivation inom LVM2011Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Depression is a common condition that affects the life of the person suffering from depression as well as their surroundings. Relatives of the person suffering from depression are affected by the condition and among these the partner is one of the most affected. The partner can be affected both physically and mentally from living with a person suffering from depression.

Aim: The aim of the study was to explore partners’ experiences of living with a person suffering from depression.

Method: The chosen method for this study was a literature review. The data was collected through both systematic and unsystematic searches. Eight articles were included, both qualitative and quantitative. The analysis was conducted according to a model made for literature reviews, where the data was compiled and sorted into descriptive themes.

Results: The results of this study yielded three themes of experiences, including one with two subthemes. (1) Experience of how the daily life is affected (subthemes: experience of living on another person’s terms, and experience of how the situation affects the mental and physical health). (2) Experience of the need for knowledge. (3) Experience of being able to cope with the situation.

Conclusion: The study shows that partners of people with depression need to be more included in the patient’s care. They also need to be offered information and support to make it easier to cope with the situation. The results of the study also shows that more research is needed on the subject.

Dialect representation: Language varieties in The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt2018Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study examines the dialect representation in CD PROJEKT RED's video game The Witcher: Wild Hunt. The study intends to contribute to an already narrow sociolinguistic field of research of how dialects are represented in video games, more precisely role-playing games.

The purpose of this study is to find out: 1) What are the pronunciation, word choice and grammar features of the farmer Bruno and the Witcher Geralt in the game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and 2) What social status, class, traits are the two characters' pronunciation, word choice and grammar features associated with?.

The study looked into language varieties, regional dialects and stereotyping with support from sociolinguistic variables to help analysing the dialects. Character 1 was assumed to use West Country English. Character 2 was assumed to have a General American dialect. Each dialect was compared to dialects with similar linguistic features, and the case for each dialect was argued and proved through analysing the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

The study had two assumptions, 1) that the dialects used in The Witcher: Wild Hunt were used because of the real-life associations they have. There was no clear answer to this. However, it could be suggested that there indeed was a deliberate choice to assign the characters with their dialects, since many linguistic features correlated to real-life dialects and so did the associations we make with the dialect. The first character of low socioeconomic background and low social status had a dialect often associated with these traits. The second character had a linguistically neutral language, and had a dialect associated with similar traits.

The second hypothesis was 2) the dialects in The Witcher: Wild Hunt run a risk of enforcing stereotypes. This was vaguely proven to be true, as it depends on how aware the players are when they play the game, as they might otherwise subconsciously enforce them. Disregarding the stereotypes as humorous representations was argued to be equally dangerous as a simple dismissal might do harm as well.

Kompetensutveckling i svenska livsmedelsbutiker: En fallstudie av ICA-butikers kompetensarbete2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

For supermarkets, staff are often emphasized as the key to success. For that reason human resources management (HRM) becomes crucial for individual, group and organizational development. Particularly important is the triangular interplay between leadership, employeeship and human resources development (HRD) that ensures that employees acquire competences through education, training and individually improvement. However, there is a wide lack of research about HRD with focus on Swedish supermarkets and the interactions between managers and employees. The case study takes off in this knowledge gap with the purpose of examine how supermarkets practices HRD and how leadership and employeeship were integrated in this management process.

The results of the case study created a scientific contribution to the current research field and the knowledge gap that existed. ICA, Sweden's largest retail company, was used as a study object, mainly through a selection of larger supermarkets. Through a pragmatic approach, a method triangulation was applied, which provided both qualitative and quantitative data from several different analytical units. 54 managers, 98 employees and nine external educators contributed to the case study's primary data, mainly through interviews and surveys. By analyzing empirical data, a theory could be developed which was applied at a contextual level. This grounded theory enabled the case study results to be put in a broader perspective and describe the industry as a whole by responding to current research question.

The results of the case study showed that supermarkets had several unique challenges that affected their work with HRD, including low status, high staff turnover and young workforce. The education requirements for employees were generally low, instead commitment, high work ethic and an genuine interest in store work was requested. Case study results showed that supermarkets work with HRD was strongly characterized by a interpersonal interaction where the leader's main task was to create efficient employees who took responsibility for their own work situation and contributed to the organization's development. Leaderships skills with a relationship oriented focus in combination with active employeeship and an organizational learning environment created the prerequisites for effective HRD. From the case study, it emerged that empowerment, Leader Member Exchange Theory and Talent Management were highly prominent in this work with HRD.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Among elderly persons living in nursing homes in Sweden, 42 percent have poor oral health. Poor oral health is a suffering for the elderly person and can affect the person's ability to speak, chew and smile but can also lead to poor self-esteem and depression and in worst case critical illness. Therefore, oral health is an area of nursing that must be updated and prioritized. Nurses hold a key position to be able to promote good oral health for older people and could identify oral health problems at an early stage. Therefore, nursing staff need to get knowledge about oral health related to general health. The purpose of the literature review is to shed light on how care staff can improve the oral health of people in nursing homes. The method chosen was a literature review, based on four qualitative, four quantitative and two mixed method studies. Two main categories and six subcategories were created. The two main categories were barriers to good oral health and factors for good oral health and the subcategories describe lack of knowledge among care staff, priorities and attitudes, dislike to oral care as well as interprofessional collaboration, progressive strategies and organizational support. Oral health is neglected due to barriers such as lack of time, high workload, and priorities in nursing homes. For oral health to be improved among people in nursing homes, increased knowledge and cooperation between care staff and dental staff is required.

    Abstract [en]

Background: Patients in a palliative stage are often fragile and exposed and therefore dependent on nursing from others. Palliative care focus on the situation right here and now and emphasizes that the patient should experience a dignified dying. The nurse has an important role in promoting a dignified dying and it is therefore important that the nurse is aware of what interventions and which approaches that will benefit the patient to experience dignity.

Aim: The aim of this study was to highlight how the nurse in her interventions and approaches can contribute to a dignified dying among patients in a palliative phase based on patients and nurses perspectives. Method: A literature-review was used as method and is based on six qualitative studies and five studies with mixed-methods.

Results: Through the analysis two significant themes emerged. The first theme was about the interaction between nurses and patients. The theme describes how the nurse can promote a dignified dying by building a relationship with the patient, communicate with the patient and by making the patient involved in his/her own care. The second theme is about the nurses efforts to promote the patients physical, psychological and spiritual needs. The theme describes how the nurse can promote a dignified dying by providing symptom relief, meet patients religious and spiritual needs and by promoting the patients autonomy and self-esteem. Conclusion: The experience of dignity is individual and it is therefore important that the patient is given an opportunity to express what is significant to her so that the nurse can adapt the care. A feeling of dignity within the patient can appear if the nurse is aware of her approach and which nursing interventions that are of importance and how they should be carried out.

    Abstract [en]

    Background:

The concept of transition means a change in a person's life where he or she is forced to adapt. There are different phases in life that results in different adaptations. In this essay, transition is described as the physical and mental journey between the home and an elder care facility. The Aim was to describe elderly people's experiences of transition when moving from their previous home into an elder care facility. The Method used was a literature review. Ten scientific articles were used for the analysis. The concept of transition has been used as a theoretical frame of reference. Results: Reasons for moving were a decrease in health, loneliness and a need to lose the burdening responsibilities that were connected to their home. Many elderly experienced a loss of feeling secure when living at home. Therefore it was important to arrive in a place that could give them a sense of security. The elderly people experienced a difficulty in adapting to their new home. After some time at their new home, they experienced well-being since the help and relations they received from staff and other residents led to experiences of security. Conclusion: Elderly people described negative as well as positive experiences of the transition, which was also altered over a period of time. Most of the elderly got used to their new form of living and their previous negative attitudes changed into positive attitudes towards the elder care facility.

Counteracting racial discrimination through attention direction based on subtle visual cues2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Human decision making has always been an interesting subject to try to understand and beable to affect. With fast development of eye trackers and toolboxes associated with the eyetrackers it has opened possibilities of areas it can be applied to. In this thesis, we have applied the eye tracking technologies and with help of subtle stimuli to try counteracting racial discrimination on CVs as they are being assessed. To investigate if it's possible to contract racial discrimination on CVs we designed a subtle gaze direction prototype that actively collects eye tracker data and makes subtle stimuli on non-discriminative areas of the CV. In conclusion, people eye movement are prone to being affected by the subtle cue while their judgment is not affected.

    Abstract [en]

Work related threat and violence has increased during the last years. Threat and violence do not only affect police and correctional officers but also impose consequences for those those individuals whom are set out to protect. This increases the relevance of getting ahead of the problem. The police and the correctional care agencies have formulated descriptions about competent police and correctional officer, like beeing responsive, commited and communicative. This is in line with the previous research on the topic. In this study, these expressions are linked to personality traits and the occurence of experienced threat and violence. This study used a quantitative survey involving the Mini-International Personality Item Pool (IPIP), the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) and the Short Dark Triad (SD3), combined with items concerning the experience of threat and violence. The sample consisted of 60 correctional officers in the age 23 to 63 whereof 58% were women and 42% were men, and 126 police officers in the age 23 to 53 where the distribution of sex were made out of 40% women and 60% men. Regression- and correlation analyses were performed which did show a relationship between personality traits and the experience of threat and violence. Independent t-test were performed which did reveal the differences in experienced threat and violence between the police- and the correctional officers. The conclusion to be made is that personality traits, although in a modest way, can predict the experience of threat and violence and that this experience differ between the two groups of professionals. Denoting for the study was that the personality trait of extraversion, which arepointed out as an important quality in order to succeed in these occupations also had a positive relation with the experience of threat and violence. The study's conclusion is that a high degree of extraversion also may be the factor that increases the risk of experiencing threat and violence.

    Abstract [en]

Background: Major depressive disorder is one of the leading diseases in the world. While anti-depressive medication is the most commonly used treatment, studies shows conflicting results of its benefits, where other alternative treatments are getting more attention such as psychological treatment and physical activity.

Aim: The study aimed to illuminate the meaning of physical activity for adult patients suffering from major depressive disorder.

Method: The method used is a literature review of nine original scientific articles, published in Cinahl, PubMed and PsycArticles databases between 2010-2020, limited to peer-review and English language.

Results: The result showed a decrease in depressive symptoms as shown in rating scales such as HDRS, BDI and MADRS, in patients treated with physical activity. Patients suffering from severe major depressive disorder showed paramount difference pre-post intervention, despite their initial state of disability.

Conclusion: Regardless of the severity of disease, physical activity shows a valid effect as an adjunct treatment in adults suffering from major depressive disorder. The result shows that while the use of physical activity as therapy is warranted in patients with major depressive disorder, adherence to treatment is of outmost importance, and the support from health professionals is mandatory.

A “Triangle” of Conflict between Duque’s Government of Colombia and the Ejército de Liberación Nacional – 2018-20202021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis is conducted as a descriptive qualitative single case study to establish empirical knowledge of the ongoing internal armed conflict between the government of Colombia and the guerrilla Ejército de Liberación Nacional. The ontological foundation orienting from social constructivism and Galtung’s theoretical concepts of attitude, behaviour, and contradiction along with the three aspects of violence: direct, cultural, and structural. Based on the application of the textual discourse analysis method, 96 different discourses were analysed. The result of the analysis shows that the perception the actors have towards each other strongly is negative. The government and the guerrilla accuse each other of contributing to the social injustice in Colombia, where perception towards the ‘other’, ideology and police violence against social protests are three main subjects found contributing to the conflict. The result indicates an interrelation in Galtung’s theory between the conflict triangle (T1) and the violence triangle (T2). The concept of contradiction from the conflict triangle, in this analysis, could only be distinguished within the three approaches of violence (T2). This study confirms several claims and arguments from previous research within the academic fields of peace and conflict in Colombia. Subsequently, I aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the ongoing conflict

    Abstract [en]

Background: In Sweden extended home visits are a relatively new method within the child health care with the purpose to strengthen the relationship between parent and child. The expectations are that the home visits also will strengthen the families' relationship with the child health care and the social services, thus ensuring contact is made by the parents when needed. The aim is to make sure the children and their families receive the support they need, which will have a positive impact on the children's wellbeing. Knowledge about parents' experiences of the extended home visits are vital to enable a development of the program to its fullest potential.

Aim: To describe the experiences of parents who have participated in an extended homevisiting program within the child health care setting together with their children.

Method: Qualitative method with an inductive approach. Interviews were analyzed with qualitative content analysis. 14 interviews were conducted with a total of 17 informants.

Results: Extended home visits made the parents feel more secure. The parents thought that the extended home visits made their everyday life easier by not having to travel to the childhealth care center and that the home visits were calmer than visits to the child health carecenter. Parents felt more relaxed in their home environment and believed the same to be true for their children. The parents found it easier to talk to the child health care nurse and socialworker in their own home and to open up with regards to their feelings. The relationship with the child health care nurse and the social worker was perceived as strengthened. Parents felt that they had gained a deeper knowledge about not only the health and development of children but also about the work of the child health care and the social services.

Conclusion: An extended home visiting program can strengthen the relationship between parent and child and give parents a greater sense of security in their parenthood. Home visits facilitates communication with child health care nurses and social workers and increases the parents' knowledge about a child's health and development. It can also give an increased insight in the roles of the child health care and the social services. For parents who are new to the country it can also give a deeper understanding of the society they are now a part of

    Abstract [en]

Background: Touch plays an important role throughout the life of humans. It can be used to comfort, to support and to soothe. It can reinforce what is being said and done. During illness a patient can experience a lack of touch, which can be detrimental to a person's health. Caring touch can then play a significant role.

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe adult patients' experiences of caring touch in somatic hospital care. Method: A method to contribute to evidence-based nursing with ground in analysis of qualitative research was performed to get a better understanding of patients' experiences of caring touch. An analysis of eight qualitative articles was carried out. The analysis resulted in five main themes and sixteen subthemes.

Results: The main themes were; I am important, my experience of the performance, my feelings, help with my pain and the body starts to function again. The patients' experiences of caring touch show that it is often popular and has positive effects for the patient.

Conclusion: Caring touch can give the patient a feeling of being important, that she or he has a value as a human being. If performed with sensitivity and respect the outcome can be beneficial to the patient. The patient's emotions may be positively influenced and a sense of well-being may arise. Personal concerns can be put aside for a moment.

Designing digital support for operator and maintenance personnel cognition and future skills in manufacturing industry2022In: INTED 2022 Proceedings: 16th International Technology, Education and Development Conference Online Conference. 7-8 March, 2022. / [ed] Luis Gómez Chova, University of Valencia, Spain; Agustín López Martínez, University of Barcelona, Spain, Ignacio Candel Torres, Capgemini, Spain, 2022, p. 9665-9673Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Industry 4.0 is believed to introduce new smart digital tools which transform manufacturing processes but affect production personnel’s work practice. Operators and maintenance personnel running the everyday operations need to learn and handle new routines and systems while maintaining production efficiency. Operators today are challenged when they must handle unexpected stops caused by machine failures and the following error recovery process of automated production systems. With complex digital tools and integrated production systems the error recovery process becomes complex because there is no one-size-fits-all solution and a lack of intelligent and automated restart systems. Even if there are defined routines for industrial work and structures for managing digital technologies, it is not adapted to the individuals’ cognitive processes neither to their workplace learning. Altogether it puts high pressure on operators’ knowledge and skills of restarting machines and systems caused by errors. The aim is to explore operators and maintenance personnel cognition and skills and how their roles vary in relevant aspects of situational awareness and workplace learning. In an on-going case we studied two industrial companies that produce similar components but are working differently with production and maintenance. Through nine interviews we investigate the differences between the companies, their current work practices, and future changes. With application of a situation awarenessmodel, we capture cognition and learning including task/system factors, perception and decision making, and individual factors. Perspectives of workplace learning and knowledge sharing between personnel and relations to the systems use are applied. Results indicate that rule-based behaviours are key for both operators and maintenance personnel. These behaviours are supported by the systems and routines, but complicated errors make the systems and routines prove inadequate. In conclusion, to design appropriate digital support tools both operators and maintenance personnel behaviour need to be supported, however they need to be supported differently since their function behaviours such as routines, system use and communication vary. In addition, future skills and competences needed forsupporting complex system tasks include knowledge of computational models and simulation, knowledge of the machines and how they interrelate with systems, and logic reasoning and robotic programming of automated production systems.

    Abstract [en]

This report covers a product development project of a milk frother machine. The project has been performed at a company called 3Temp in Arvika.

3Temp has wished to produce an easy-to-use machine for frothing milk, and has through different tests of flow-related components such as a pump, heating element, hoses and electrical components reached the desired type of milk frothing-function. The only thing missing to have a finished product was a chassis for this machine. The goal for this project was to produce a design that fulfills the needs and requirements that 3Temp and future users have, to be able to manufacture a prototype of this milk frother in the future.

A design process was followed step by step to understand which functions the machine needed, and what environmental aspects to have in mind. Further in the design process illustrations were made and different ideas came through and were processed in different project and brainstorming meetings. This laid the foundation for the following design work. Because of the design work being an iterative process, the work flow has gone back and forth between the different parts of the chassis, to improve the concept step by step. A QFD-house was made to make a competitive analysis, and to create a bigger understanding about the users needs and solutions in order to meet the requirements.

A concept for a milk frother was produced as a CAD-model. The different parts of the design consist of a chassis, vertical movement and a drain with a built-in cleaning mechanism. An analysis was made for the material used in the chassis.

The work resulted in a concept that 3Temp were satisfied with and that fulfilled the requirements and needs.

    Abstract [en]

In the Swedish power grid more and more wind farms are connected. In some cases this is a problem since the power grid already is at its maximum limit in some regions. When the power grid is at its maximum limit it has to be reinforced before a wind farm can connect to the power grid. This reinforcement is today made either by constructing new power lines or by increasing the area of the power line. To avoid these expensive and time-consuming methods, Fortum Distribution wants to investigate the possibility for implementations of dynamic line rating. Dynamic line rating is about measuring the real time rating of the power line, considering the actual weather condition and the power flow in the power line. This study describes three different solutions to measuring the dynamic line rating on a fictitious power line. These solutions are then compared to increasing the area of this fictitious power line. The methods that are examined are Ampacimon, CAT-1 and The Power Donut. The result of this study shows that implementation of dynamic line rating is most economic compared to increasing the area. Measuring the dynamic line rating has the lowest investment cost compared to increasing the area. Fortum Distributions revenue can also increase more with measuring the dynamic line rating of the power line. The result in this study shows that CAT-1 is the most technical and economical solution compared with the other that has been investigated.

Microstructure of Haynes® 282® Superalloy after Vacuum Induction Melting and Investment Casting of Thin-Walled Components2013In: Materials, ISSN 1996-1944, E-ISSN 1996-1944, Vol. 6, no 11, p. 5016-5037Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this work was to characterize the microstructure of the as-cast Haynes® 282® alloy. Observations and analyses were carried out using techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), light microscopy (LM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), wave length dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (WDS), auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and electron energy-loss spectrometry (EELS). The phases identified in the as-cast alloy include: γ (gamma matrix), γʹ (matrix strengthening phase), (TiMoCr)C (primary carbide), TiN (primary nitride), σ (sigma-TCP phase), (TiMo)2SC (carbosulphide) and a lamellar constituent consisting of molybdenum and chromium rich secondary carbide phase together with γ phase. Within the dendrites the γʹ appears mostly in the form of spherical, nanometric precipitates (74 nm), while coarser (113 nm) cubic γʹ precipitates are present in the interdendritic areas. Volume fraction content of the γʹ precipitates in the dendrites and interdendritic areas are 9.6% and 8.5%, respectively. Primary nitrides metallic nitrides (MN), are homogeneously dispersed in the as-cast microstructure, while primary carbides metallic carbides (MC), preferentially precipitate in interdendritic areas. Such preference is also observed in the case of globular σ phase. Lamellar constituents characterized as secondary carbides/γ phases were together with (TiMo)2SC phase always observed adjacent to σ phase precipitates. Crystallographic relations were established in-between the MC, σ, secondary carbides and γ/γʹ matrix.

Exploring the raison d’etre of an incident reporting system in an elementary school2015Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the raison d’étre of the use of an incident reporting system in a Swedish primary school and through the lens of situated risk (Boholm, 2003; 2009) problematize what outcomes such a use may generate in terms of children’s safety.

In Swedish schools there exists today, through legislation, a zero tolerance level of both physical and psychological abuse of children and as such are all schools required to act when such incidents occur. The main purpose of this legislation is to maintain children’s safety in schools. In order to meet the requirements of taking action many schools have implement incident reporting systems into which they report such incidents and accidents.

However little is known about what consequences the use of such systems have in practice. In our case study we explore how legislation regarding children’s safety in schools, is translated into the implementation and use of an incident reporting system in a Swedish primary school and what consequences this has on children’s safety. We claim that there exists a need to gain more knowledge about what unintended consequences the use of such systems have on children as we find that in some situations this use may, in practice, be opposed to children’s safety.

On the intended and unintended consequences of the enactment of digital management control systems in Swedish Schools2016Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper is to investigate the enactment of digital management control systems in Swedish schools and what intended and unintended consequences, both short-term and longterm, this may have on individual-, organizational- and societal levels. A pilot study has been conducted and the results show how the enactment of an incident reporting system (one type of digital management control system) in a Swedish school resulted in unintended and even harmful consequences for the students. Combining relational theory with the frameworks of translation and enactment in studies of technology in use provides support in our investigation of how technology is inextricably intertwined in the continuous shaping and re-shaping of organizational practice.

Safety and the use of management control systems and Key Performance Indicators at a Swedish nuclear powerplant2016In: SRA Europe 2nd Nordic Chapter Meeting in Gothenburg 14‐15 November, 2016: Book of abstracts, Gothenburg Research Institute , 2016, p. 12-12Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Continuous control, testing and maintenance of systems and components are of utmost importance for maintaining safety at a nuclear power plant (NPP). And key elements for safe practice in organizations overall are often claimed to be adaptation, change and the ability to reflect and maneuver in paradoxical situations.  Identifying new innovative ways of organizing in order to control growing demands regarding safety, efficiency, quality, reliability, profitability etc. is a challenge in all types of organizations. Following this development organizational and management controltheory and practice have progressed rapidly inorganizations in recent years and one profound idea to manage and control for organizational efficiency and success is to implement management control systems (MCS:s) in which Key Performance Indicators (KPI:s) playa key role.  This paper will present an example of when a safety KPI at a NPP was presented as green, orange and red simultaneously within the same NPP. Questions raised were: how could this happen? and what consequences might this have upon safety?  What was found is that different stakeholder demands were being met at different levels of the organization when reporting the safety KPI in three different ways. However no deeper analysis of what consequences this might bring in terms of safety was conducted at anylevel.  There exists some research on how management control systems and KPI:s shape organizational outcomes. However there exists a knowledge gap considering the long term effects the use of such systems and measurements have upon i.e. safety.

The Handbook of Salutogenesis2022Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Revised and updated from the first edition are background and historical chapters that trace the development of the salutogenic model of health and flesh out the central concepts, most notably generalized resistance resources and the sense of coherence that differentiate salutogenesis from pathogenesis. From there, experts describe a range of real-world applications within and outside health contexts. Many new chapters emphasize intervention research findings. Readers will find numerous practical examples of how to implement salutogenesis to enhance the health and well-being of families, infants and young children, adolescents, unemployed young people, pre-retirement adults, and older people. A dedicated section addresses how salutogenesis helps tackle vulnerability, with chapters on at-risk children, migrants, prisoners, emergency workers, and disaster-stricken communities.  Wide-ranging coverage includes new topics beyond health, like intergroup conflict, politics and policy-making, and architecture.  The book also focuses on applying salutogenesis in birth and neonatal care clinics, hospitals and primary care, schools and universities, workplaces, and towns and cities. A special section focuses on developments in salutogenesis methods and theory.

Foreign Direct Investment & Economic Growth: Evidence From The Sub-Saharan Region2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

There have been many studies and theories to prove the connection or relationship that exists between the flow of investment and the growth of the economy of a country. This study aimed at examining the impact Foreign Direct Investment has on the economic growth of Sub-Saharan Africa from 1999 to 2019. Using Panel data analysis, we analysed the impact on thirty-Five selected countries in this region. Based on empirical studies and theories, we researched using carefully selected variables with data sourced mainly from World Bank Development Indicators, World Governance Indicators as well as Data Stream. These variables include inflation that was realized to harm growth, contrary to human capital, financial market development, exchange rate, control of corruption as well as the openness of the economy were variables that were included in our study to analyse their relationship with economic growth. The findings were conclusive that FDI impact on growth is positive yet statistically insignificant to the economic growth of Sub-Saharan Africa.

An Intersectional Analysis of Health Inequalities and Vulnerabilities During the Covid-19 Pandemic2023In: Responsible Management of Shifts in Work Modes: Values for Post Pandemic Sustainability, Volume 2 / [ed] Kemi Ogunyemi, Adaora I. Onaga, Emerald Group Publishing Limited, 2023, p. 109-118Chapter in book (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This chapters discusses the power structures affecting access to healthcare and the quality of received care including factors like gender, ethnicity, social and economic status among others from an intersectional perspective. Structural changes are necessary to decrease the health inequalities and vulnerabilities during the pandemic. An intersectional approach helps to display the interactions of different power structures and social categories which put people at differential risk of infection and/or mortality of COVID-19. The intersectional approach should be used not only to understand the pandemic impact on people but also when planning the healthcare policies, care plans and support services.

Comparison of a new, high precision, energy efficient welding method with the conventional Gas Metal Arc Welding on high carbon steel base metal2014Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

CMT+P welding is less susceptible to hot cracking than the MAG welding process due to use of low heat input properties. Solidification cracking was found in all weld specimens that had greater 0.39KJ/mm heat inputs. Cracking occurs because of the contraction stresses generates during cooling. Hydrogen cracking is found in HAZ with low heat input parameters, this type of cracking occurred because of very rapid cooling and therefore not enough time to allow the hydrogen to dissipate from the specimen. To eliminate this type of cracking the experiment could be repeated by adding heating during welding to control and reduce the cooling rate. Due to high carbon content in the steel and very fast cooling the microstructure of the weld is martensitic in the base metal as well as the HAZ. Microstructure in the weld and base metal is martensitic due to high carbon con-tent and rapid cooling. At low heat inputs dilution is less and therefore lower carbon content in weld pool. Better weld appearance and weld quality is achieved with CMT+P welding process than the conventional GMA welding processes because of the new wire movement technology during welding

    Abstract [en]

Background: To be a parent to a child dying of cancer affect not just the parents themselves, but the whole family. Experiences of fear, powerlessness and anxiety surrounds them. Nurses need knowledge about parents’ experiences to help and support these parents adequately. Aim: The aim of the study was to describe parents’ experiences of losing a child to cancer, from diagnosis to the child’s death. Method: A qualitative approach was used to this literature study. Six autobiographic books was analysed with content analysis. Results: The results of this study are represented into three main categories, the medical service and staff. The importance of maintaining the same caregivers and receiving straight and honest information on their child´s condition. How the child´s sickness affects the family situation. Many parents preferred to care for their child at home, that way the siblings could be together which alleviates their anxiety from the parents. Finally how life just seem to stop. The parents wanted to buy presents, gifts and to travel with their child, as much quality time as possible because they never knew how long the child would be alive. Conclusion: The child’s cancer affects the whole family. In between all pain and sorrow, the parents appreciated life of small matters together with their child. If the staff in the medical service can offer the parents’ compliance and support threw the entire situation. It could help the parents to continue to carry on.

Investigation into active short circuit tolerant motor design and its impact on power density of EV traction motors2022Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This report investigates the design of traction motors for electric vehicles to reduce the amplitude of the current produced during a three-phase short circuit of the machine. The report focuses on surface-mounted permanent magnet machines with concentrated windings. The changes in the three-phase short circuit are compared to other performance benchmarks such as peak torque, peak power, torque density and power density.

This project found that, for a given set of boundary conditions, the performance of the motor will be reduced at the cost of lower three-phase short circuit currents. As the motor design is modified to reduce the short circuit current, the machine becomes limited by temperature and DC supply voltage. These findings achieve the goal of this project which is to quantify the compromise between low three-phase short-circuit current and performance.

Ett hjälpmedel i tanken men inte långt ifrån ett eget mål: tre förskollärares tankar om estetisk verksamhet i förskolan2014Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Cloud gamings påverkan på konsumenter: Hur ser användarupplevelsen ut i den molnbaseradetjänsten?2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The gaming industry is one of the largest in entertainment today and is constantlyevolving with the help of digitalization. In both the film and music industry, streaminghas become extremely popular and now the gaming world is following in their footstepsin the form of cloud gaming. In just a few years, the four cloud gaming services XboxGame Pass, Nvidia GeForce Now, Playstation Now and Google Stadia have beenlaunched. During this time, Google Stadia has also shut down its service due to a lack ofconsumers. This means that it is extremely relevant to try to create an understanding ofwhat is required of cloud gaming to get users to abandon traditional gaming. We want toinvestigate how the user experience in cloud gaming affects consumers. To do this, wehave in this study chosen to focus on Xbox Game Pass.

In this paper, we have used a questionnaire, a test and a complementary interview toarrive at our results. The questionnaire dealt with the frequency of gaming bothtraditionally and via cloud gaming, which platforms they have used or know about, andthe advantages and disadvantages of cloud gaming, in order to get an overview of theopinions on the subject. We asked eight participants to play four different games usingthe Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming service during a set time frame, and we interviewedthese participants afterwards to learn about their experience with cloud gaming.

As we can see from the results, we received 47 responses to our questionnaire, wherethe answers showed that the biggest problems with cloud gaming were about connectionor performance, but that it was easily accessible and that it was an advantage not to haveto install games and use disks. It also turned out that the majority of respondents haveeither never played via cloud gaming or have only tried it once. The interviews hadvarying results, where the link between networks and poor user experience was notobvious. However, this can depend on the expectations of cloud gaming since multipleof our respondents had their gaming experiences affected by their expectations. Ourfindings suggest that consumers are not ready to abandon traditional gaming, given thecurrent instability and uncertainty of cloud gaming. The cloud gaming user experienceis a sea of problems with immersion breaks, network issues, unreliable stability, andhigh expectations. This suggests that consumers may be avoiding cloud gaming becausethey are expecting a negative user experience, which implies a negative reputation.

    Abstract [en]

The overall aim is to describe the importance of professional supervision in social work. Objectives are specified based on three specific aims: to describe and to understand how social workers experience professional supervision, to describe and to understand how social workers perceive the supervisor's role, and to describe and to understand why group supervision is perceived as an important part of professional supervision. To seek answers semi-structured interviews were applied, in conversation with social workers. The analytical method is inspired by grounded theory. The analysis process was interpreted the empirical material from a systems theory perspective.

The results show that professional supervision provides an opportunity for reflection, which promotes the development of social worker skills in the work with clients. With expertise follows a greater self-confidence and well-being. The supervisor has a major responsibility in the professional supervision of experienced social workers. Professionalism and a respectful response are requested. In group supervision colleagues learn from each other's experiences, something that is perceived valuable.

The conclusion is that professional supervision is perceived as positive and necessary as it contributes to reflection and professional development. This provides a greater professionalism. The supervisor performs an important function; a presumption is that the supervisor has the right skills. Group supervision is perceived as an important part if colleagues are attuned and confident with each other. An essential knowledge exchange can then occur.

Optimization of High Porosity Thermal Barrier Coatings Generated with a Porosity Former2015In: Journal of thermal spray technology (Print), ISSN 1059-9630, E-ISSN 1544-1016, Vol. 24, no 4, p. 622-628Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Yttria-stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coatings are extensively used in turbine industry; however, increasing performance requirements have begun to make conventional air plasma sprayed coatings insufficient for future needs. Since the thermal conductivity of bulk material cannot be lowered easily; the design of highly porous coatings may be the most efficient way to achieve coatings with low thermal conductivity. Thus the approach of fabrication of coatings with a high porosity level based on plasma spraying of ceramic particles of dysprosia-stabilized zirconia mixed with polymer particles, has been tested. Both polymer and ceramic particles melt in plasma and after impact onto a substrate they form a coating. When the coating is subjected to heat treatment, polymer burns out and a complex structure of pores and cracks is formed. In order to obtain desired porosity level and microstructural features in coatings; a design of experiments, based on changes in spray distance, powder feeding rate, and plasma-forming atmosphere, was performed. Acquired coatings were evaluated for thermal conductivity and thermo-cyclic fatigue, and their morphology was assessed using scanning electron microscopy. It was shown that porosity level can be controlled by appropriate changes in spraying parameters.
