    Abstract [en]

In the last few years bullying has started to get more attention. Bullying often takes place in schools in the forms of harassment, abuse, verbal and physical. This study aims at investigating the relationship between bullying, attachment and self-esteem, and how parent's attachment and self-esteem relate bullying. Results concerning bullying in this study have shown that there is a correlation between self-esteem, attachment and bullying. Further analyses showed that bullying behavior was significantly more frequent among boys than among girls. Regression analysis showed that only self-esteem has collaboration on bullying among boys, while among girls, both attachment to the parents and self-esteem had collaboration on bullying.

    Abstract [en]

Human beings spend a large part of their lives in the workplace. For her to feel good it requires a good working environment; one important factor for this is that she should feel a physical and emotional safety in the workplace. Firefighters are an occupational group whose work is often the site of an accident or fire where large risks may occur. It has been shown that a functioning social interaction within the working group contributes to the likelihood of personal safety. Based on the purpose to study and understand the firefighters' beliefs about how social interactions affect their safety, a qualitative study was conducted. The research participants were six male firefighters between the ages of 28-46 who have been working for 3-15 years. Each participant has a Swedish firefighter training (SMO). Semi-structured interviews were conducted using an interview guide. The material was processed and analyzed with thematic analysis with the help of riskhomeostas theory and FIRO-theory. Based on the thematic analysis four themes emerged: (1) Perceived control leads to perceived safety (2) The importance of roles in the team (3) The significance of open communication (4) Trusting each other. The results showed that the firefighters felt that they were the most secure in the workplace when they had a perceived control. The results also showed that they believed that social interaction was important for their safety. The factors that stood out when it came to social interaction were open communication, clear roles within the work group and to have trust in each other. The conclusion that was drawn was that the firefighters felt that social interaction has an impact on safety.

Tro det eller ej: en kvantitativ studie om värderingar och moralvitalism2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Previous research has demonstrated correlations between values and religiosity in the aspect of propensity to believe. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the research in moral vitalism, which includes an approach to good and evil forces.

The participants in the study were 122 individuals; the age range was 18 – 68 of which 84 women, 37 men, and one who identified themselves as other. They filled in the Portrait Value Questionnaire to measure values and the newly developed questionnaire Moral Vitalism Scale for the measurement of moral vitalism. Data was analyzed using Pearson's correlation (r), multiple linear regression, and independent t-test. The study shows a positive correlation between moral vitalism and the value safety. A negative correlation is shown between moral vitalism and the value achievement.

The result indicates that individuals who value achievement have lower propensity to believe in moral vitalism, unlike individuals who generally cherish stability, which show higher propensity to believe in moral vitalism. No differences were found in how a person's individual values affect the degree of moral vitalism. No gender differences in moral vitalism were detected in the study.

Personlighetsdrag och digitala möten: En kvantitativ studie om hur individens personlighet speglas i digitala möten2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Because of covid-19 physical meetings have been replaced with digital meetings. Companies have perceived great advantage with digital meetings and teleworking may therefore continue partially after the pandemic. At digital meetings peoplecommunicate behind a screen and other behaviors may arise in comparison with physical meetings. Previous research has shown that personality traits are a good predictor for behaviors. There was limited research in the field, therefore the study had an exploratory purpose where the relationship between personality traits and individual behaviors at digital meetings were investigated. A quantitative method was used, and a total of 167 people participated in the study (M = 41 years, SD = 13; 131 women). To collect data an internet-based survey was made with self-rated questionnaires. The survey was based on the personality test IPIP-30 and self-designed statements, intended to measure the personality traits in The Big Five and individual behaviors at digital meetings. The data collection was analyzed through a correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Our study showed that there was a relationship between personality traits and behaviors at digital meetings and contributed to an increased knowledge of individual differences. For a deeper understanding of the relationship, more studies need to be accomplished and the instrument needs further development. The personality trait conscientiousness had the most meaningful impact of specific behaviors at digital meetings and showed positive correlation with several behaviors. This means that the higher value the individuals have of the personality trait conscientiousness, the more they tend to agree with specific behaviors at digital meetings.

Sambandet mellan arbetsengagemang och personlighetsdragen i Big Five2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Kan kreativitet manipuleras?: En experimentell studie om hur prestationskrav under tidspress påverkar kreativiteten2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Creativity is a popular term that frequently occurs in the working life. Despite its popularity, the possibility to be creative varies a lot between work places, and many employees feel that they do not have a creative outlet in their work role. The purpose of the present study was to examine how different conditions could affect creativity. The two questions that this study intended to answer was: a) Can individuals' creative performance be manipulated by performance requirements during explicit time constraint? b) Can individuals' self-rated creativity be manipulated by performance requirements during explicit time constraint? An experimental study was conducted with a total of 89 participants randomly distributed into two groups. Experimental group 1 had a total of 47 participants, of which 23 women (48.9%) and Experimental group 2 had a total of 42 participants, of which 15 women (35.7%). The experiments were conducted individually with one participant at a time. The measuring instruments used were Guilford's (1967) Alternative Uses Task to measure creativity and Mini-IPIP6 to control for personality. The current item used in Alternative Uses Task was a coffee mug that the participants were assigned to write down as many alternative uses for as possible. Experimental group 1 had a performance requirement to write down a minimum of 15 alternative uses and an explicit time constraint. Experimental group 2 did the same task, but without performance requirement and no explicit time constraint. The collected data was analysed with IBM SPSS and the tools used for the analyses was Pearson's correlation (r), independent t-test and Repeated Measures ANOVA. The results showed a) that Experimental group 1 produced a higher number of creative ideas than Experimental group 2, but that Experimental group 2 had a significantly higher creative quality on their ideas than Experimental group 1. Further the results showed b) that it was not possible to manipulate the self-rated creativity when the personality trait Openness was controlled for.

Chefers upplevelser av e-ledarskapet under pandemin2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Personlighetstest vid rekrytering: En kvalitativ studie ur ett arbetsperspektiv2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Personality tests for recruitment context is a common selection method for companies. In the recruitment process personality test are used as a tool to find the right person for the right place. The purpose of this qualitative study is to find examples of how this is used as a selection method in the recruitment of managers and the function tests have been in the recruitment process. To achieve the aim and answer the questions semi-structured interviews were carried out, to illustrate the respondents' perceptions, sensations and experiences on personality tests in recruitment. This was studied from two angles, namely with HR and store managers at ICA Special. The respondents interviewed were two women from ICA Specials HR department and four store managers, a man and three women from ICA Maxi stores. Respondents were aged from 35-60 years. Interview guides were divided into two parts, one interview guide for HR and one interview guide for store managers. The interview material was analyzed based on a thematic analysis. In the result, it was seen that a personality test has the function of a complement to discern candidates, to verify what the hiring manager sees, hears and feels during the process, but also as a self-reflection of the store managers who have performed the test. Moreover, it emerged in the results that the feedback of the candidate's profile is considered one of the most significant steps in the recruitment process and that respondents felt this should be related to the candidate in the form of a call. Finally, HR uses the communicative competence in the feedback of the candidate's profile as they relate to the profile, to get the candidate to gain a better understanding of their profile content.

Empati: Utifrån civila brottsutredare, poliser och kriminologistudenters perspektiv2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Today the concept of empathy is widely used where people are considered to have different definitions of the concept. Civilian investigators, police officers and criminologists come, in their professional role, in contact with people who are suspected of crime. This makes it of critical importance to investigate whether these occupational groups find it difficult to assess if a person have empathic ability.

The purpose of the study was to investigate what characterizes empathy for people and what characterizes empathy in situations where a good or bad deed is done to another person.

The study was carried out based upon a qualitative research approach, with a thematic analysis, and consisted of 52 participants in respective groups of civil crime investigators, police officers, and criminology students.

The results show that the concept of empathy had a similar meaning for all participants involved. They described it as being able to relate to other people's lifeworld, lived experiences and feelings. However, it can be defined differently based on other people's life experiences. Most people considered it difficult to judge whether a person has empathy since it is difficult to know what someone else is thinking and feeling.

Furthermore, psychological violence was described as harming someone through lies, deceit and insults, while physical violence meant harming another person physically. Both mental and physical violence, according to the participants, could be seen to be a defense mechanism to protect themselves from being mentally or physically harmed. Furthermore, the participants considered that empathy included such things as helping someone in need, being humane when necessary. This makes the study fall in line with previous research on the concept of empathy.

Motivationsfaktorer och främjandet av arbetsmotivation: En studie om medarbetares erfarenheter och hur ledare arbetar med att främja arbetsmotivation2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Work life today is constantly evolving, not least in grocery stores that are experiencing a major digitization. Therefore, work life motivation and the factors preceding motivation are highly relevant to study. We have used a qualitative method where ten interviews were conducted, three leaders and seven employees within three supermarkets located at the Swedish west coast. Our purpose was to make a greater understanding of the employees' own opinions and values regarding hygiene- and motivational factors. We also gained understanding for how the employees experience that the leaders work to promote work life motivation and how the management actually works around the subject. The collected material has been analyzed using a directed content analysis. The most important findings are that the employees value the hygiene factors the most. In general, the respondents also experience a lack of leaders' promotion of work motivation. The findings have been discussed together with previous research and our main conclusion is that every individual is different, which means that managers must know their employees to know what motivates each and everyone.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to find correlations between personality traits, experienced employee empowerment and job satisfaction. Employee empowerment means the sense of meaning, competence, self-determination and impact. The study examined if there was a gap between experienced and desired empowerment and if this gap could be explained by personality. The study also examined if this gap had a connection to satisfaction. The questionnaire was carried out at the Swedish Maritime Administration. To measure different personalities, the personality scale mini-IPIP6 was used and in order to measure experienced and desired empowerment, the Spreitzer’s Empowerment Scale was used. The results showed that the personality trait neuroticism correlated negatively with experienced employee empowerment, desired empowerment and job satisfaction. Extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness correlated positively with perceived employee empowerment, desired empowerment and job satisfaction. The results confirm previous research done with the well-established theory of the "Big Five, while employee empowerment is a rather new concept.

Här knackar vi inte längre: En kvalitativ studie om skolpersonalens upplevelse av sin arbetsmiljö på Kronan skola2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine how school personnel have reacted in regard to their mental, physical, and social working environments one year after the Kronan School attack in Trollhättan. The study's results are based on semi-structured interviews with five staff members. The qualitative method of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (I.P.A) has been used to analyse the material. The results show which factors the staff members have considered to be the reasons for their recovery and setbacks when returning to work after the event. Five comprehensive themes presented themselves as being the most prominent after analysis. The comprehensive themes are based on the interviewees' experiences of social support, security, the lost meeting place, social strains, and mental processing. The results present how important the component's safety, security, and social support has been for the interviewees' processing of the traumatic event, as well as their return to work. The conclusion emphasises the interviewees' experience in a workgroup, where solidarity has developed and strengthened after experiencing crisis.

Parents’ learning support and school attitudes in relation to adolescent academic identity and school performance in nine countries2024In: European Journal of Psychology of Education, ISSN 0256-2928, E-ISSN 1878-5174, p. 1-26Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

An important question for parents and educators alike is how to promote adolescents’ academic identity and school performance. This study investigated relations among parental education, parents’ attitudes toward their adolescents’ school, parental support for learning at home, and adolescents’ academic identity and school performance over time and in different national contexts. Longitudinal data were collected from adolescents and their parents in nine countries (China, Colombia, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, the Philippines, Sweden, Thailand, and the United States). When adolescents were 16 years old, their mothers (N = 1083) and fathers (N = 859) provided data. When adolescents were 17 years old, 1049 adolescents (50% girls) and their mothers (N = 1001) and fathers (N = 749) provided data. Multiple-group path analyses indicated that, across cultures, higher parent education was associated with better adolescent school performance. Parents’ attitudes toward their adolescents’ school and parent support for learning in the home were not associated with adolescents’ school performance but were associated with academic identity. The findings suggest somewhat different pathways to school performance versus academic identity. Implications for helping parents and educators in different countries promote adolescents’ academic identity and achievement are discussed.

    Abstract [en]

Consultant managers have several important relationships in their business, such as the relationship with their customers, the consultants, and their own managers. By having many professional relationships and many tasks at the same time, consultant managers have a lot on their plate. In this study, the purpose will be to discuss the consultant manager’s experiences of difficulties in being able to create relationships with their consultants in connection with the co-leadership they have with their clients. In order to get the answers for this study's purpose, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 consultant managers from the staffing industry. The results are presented as main themes and sub-themes with an associated analysis. Three main themes were identified: Physical presence, communication, and co-leadership. The consultant managers' lack of presence with their consultant was identified. They felt that their lack of presence affected their communication between them. Another theme was co-leadership and the consultant managers felt that the co-leadership had an impact on the relationship between the consultant managers and consultants. Most felt that their lack of time resulted in them not being able to create close relationships with their consultants and in several cases the consultants were more drawn to the clients as they were more present at their workplace.

    Abstract [en]

Performing in working life is important today in order to develop, gain experience, and be judged by one’s manager. Previous research shows that our personality plays a big role in working life. This study focuses on three different parts of experienced work performance; that is, task work performance (everyday tasks), contextual work performance (initiative in addition to everyday tasks) and counterproductive work behavior (working against the business). The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between aspects of individual work performance and personality dimensions. The study made use of personality-based questionnaires, HEXACO (Mini-IPIP6) and Dark Triad (SD3), as well as a measure of individual work performance (IWPQ). The study involved 207 people (M = 36.13 years, SD = 19 years; 109 men). The results showed, as expected, that task-based work performance was positively related (.35) to conscientiousness and negative (-.36) to neuroticism. Contextual work performance was positively related (.41) to openness, which showed the strongest correlation. Counterproductive work behavior showed the strongest correlation with neuroticism (.39). This study results indicate that personality has significance for individual work performance which can be implemented in staff development.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate how leaders work with feedback as a toolin their management positions. Previous research has shown how feedback is usedwithin organizations to develop individuals' performance and behavior. Further, the introduction highlighted how there is not enough research regarding the experiences of working with feedback. The theory-section also stressed thatfeedback is a process for both the sender and the receiver. The sender's process is characterized by anxiety and fear which result in a presentation of less quality. The managers described the process for the receiver as influenced by personal characteristics which affect their perception. The informants consisted of five leaders, four men and one woman. These managers had different positions and geographical placements within the same company. Since this study aims to emphasize how these managers experience feedback, a qualitative study with semistructured interviews and thematic analysis was chosen. To an extent the result reflected the results of previous research and described how the senders' feedback process was characterized by fear in those cases where the managers were to present criticizing feedback. The informants pointed out that feedback was a gift since it promotes individual progress and therefore is something the receivershould be grateful for. Possibly, it is not the presentation of feedback that further needs to be developed but the receivers' openness and acceptance. This to have an allowing culture where the employees and not only the board, requests feedback.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this qualitative study was to see if there are differences between trained recruiters compared to untrained, and differences in improvement in the hourly substitutes who have been recruited by trained staff and whether the City of Gothenburg works uniformly or not. Can a trained recruiter with his or her knowledge select and find more efficient and dedicated staff than untrained recruiters? The data material was collected with the help of semi-structured interviews with seven people with different positions who worked in various activities within elderly care. The analysis was carried out via a thematic analysis of transcribed data material and the results were summed up in two themes: "A united City of Gothenburg" and "One's own perspective". The two themes were the result of a summary of minor sub-themes which included: lack of communication, subjectivity, and illegal approaches. The conclusion shows that there is a difference in job performance and knowledge between trained and untrained recruiters. The conclusion also showed that hourly substitutes who have been recruited by trained recruiters operate with more responsibility and it also shows that they do not receive as many complaints as other hourly substitutes. Another conclusion is that the City of Gothenburg does not work uniformly as they market.

    Abstract [en]

Feeling a sense of community is important on both a societal- and individual level, in order to feel life satisfaction and security. There is no previous research in Sweden to what extent the phenomenon’s; security in neighborhood and life satisfaction, can be co-varied. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between safety in the neighborhood and life satisfaction among residents of the city of Gothenburg. The study is based on the SOM survey from 2020.

The survey was sent out to 8,000 respondents aged 16-85, who were randomly selected. Of these 8,000 respondents, a total of 3,956 people chose to participate in the survey. To investigate the relationship between the phenomena used and correlation analysis as well as a multiple regression analysis. In the correlation analysis were phenomena compared against the control variables gender, age, education and ethnicity. In the multiple regression analysis the control variables gender, education and ethnicity the only ones used. Based on the analyses, the results show that there is a weak positive relationship between safety in the neighborhood and life satisfaction, this even after the relationship was tested against the control variables. The regression analysis showed that life satisfaction and the control variables had an explanation rate of 7.3%.

Kan flextid och distansarbete minska konflikten mellan arbetsliv och privatliv?2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Today, flexible ways of working such as flextime and telework are a common occurrence, which could result in a conflict between work life and private life. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate whether there was a relation between the attitude to flextime and telework as well as in what way an individual experiences a conflict between work life and personal life and finally, if flextime and telework affects the extent an individual experiences a conflict between work life and private life. This study had a quantitative approach and consisted of a survey with questions regarding flextime, telework and the conflict between work life and private life. The respondents of the study consisted of 92 administrative officials working at a municipality (67% women och 33% men), (year of birth, M = 1970, SD = 11,05). Every respondent was bound by the same flextime contract and none of them had a leading position. To interpret the results, previous research was used as well as result analyses, specifically Pearson correlations and t-tests. The results indicated that the majority of the respondents considered flextime and telework positively. The results also showed that those that had a positive attitude to telework also experienced the conflict between work life and private life to higher level. Furthermore, the more positive an individual is towards flextime the more positive is an individual towards telework. In the free-text answers it was possible to find answers from the respondents that showed some of the negative aspects of flextime and telework.

    Abstract [en]

This study focuses on the work identity of priests in the Church of Sweden by exploring their point of view of the mission and their self image of being priests. The purpose of the study is to get a deeper understanding of how they identify with their profession. Previous research indicates that the priest identity is strongly connected to the church, the parish and the role of being a priest. The ordination vows and the demands of representativity is a central part of their identity, but it can also be linked to mental strain.

The study used a selection of priests that were gathered through convenience. This selection contains priests within the church of Sweden and became a mixture of unfamiliar and familiar priests. A qualitative method and a semi structured interview guide were used to gather the priests individual experiences. The collection of data was carried out primarily through in-person interviews and a few phone calls. The validity is confirmed by respondent validity and an open presentation of the research process. The data was analyzed based on a thematic analysis model.

The results indicated clear similarities with the demands on priest ordination within the Church of Sweden. The sense of a religious calling and meaningfulness, along with the significance of the role of a priest as a part of their identity is in line with previous research and the theoretical perspective. The respondents identity as a priest is strongly connected to their relationship with God and the fulfillment of the mission by the church. This integration of the professional role in their personal identity harmonizes with the theory of social identity and previous research about the construction of a work identity

Samband mellan ett flexibelt arbete och arbetstillfredsställelse2024Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Tillitsbaserad styrmodell i praktiken: En kvalitativ studie av chefers upplevelser2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of the study was to analyse students' sense of coherence (SOC). The differences between sex, year, course and the correlations between SOC and background variables have been examined. Antonovsky's Life Orientation Questionnaire was used to measure the students' SOC. The participants in the study were boys and girls in high school (N = 79). The students either attended traditional field of studies or music oriented studies. To analyse the differences between the variables t-test was carried out. Participants´ correlation analysis was conducted between SOC and background variables. To study which item was more important for students within SOC, averages was compared. The study found differences between the sexes, which is also supported by previous research. The result demonstrated higher levels of SOC in year 8 compared with year 9 and in traditional field of studies as against music oriented studies. These results are discussed within the context of previous research. A correlation between SOC and well-being in education was also found, which has also been established in former studies. The items most valued by the students showed that they were rarely treated unjustly, rarely situated in a unfamiliar situation and that they so far had experienced their lives to contain goals and meaning.

Testing the personality differentiation by intelligence hypothesis in a representative sample of Swedish hexagenerians2022In: Journal of Research in Personality, ISSN 0092-6566, E-ISSN 1095-7251, Vol. 99, article id 104242Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The Personality Differentiation by Intelligence Hypothesis (PDIH) predicts larger trait-variances, and smaller across-trait covariances for individuals with higher intelligence. We tested these predictions using multiple-group confirmatory factor analyses (MG-CFA), while controlling for the potential confound of systematic method variance related to reversed items using a correlated trait, correlated method (CTCM) approach. Participants between the ages of 62 and 68 completed measures of personality (Mini-IPIP: Donnellan et al., 2006) and intelligence (Raven APM-12: Arthur & Day, 1994). After establishing strict measurement invariance (MI), we found no support for larger variances, and only minor support for lower trait covariances as related to higher intelligence. Overall, the findings provide scant support for the PDIH when controlling for systematic method variance.

Sambandet mellan mörka personlighetsdrag och statiskt- samt dynamiskt tankesätt2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Work-life balance: En studie om balansen mellanarbete och fritid2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Work-life balance is an area that in recent years has been increasingly important for the organizations. Research shows that the experience of imbalance between work and private life could lead to stress. Work-life balance was studied through the sub-concepts Work-family conflict and Family-work conflict. The study was interestering because of the importance of knowledge of what affects a persons' perceptions of work and private life. Data was collected through a web survey that was answered by 130 people between 22 and 66 years old. 58% were women and 42% men. The result showed that people with children under 18 years old perceive a higher Family-work conflict and therefore a lower Work-life balance. The study also showed that values were significantly correlated to Work-life balance. For exampel people with strong self-enhancement values tend to percieve a lower grade of balance. The findings also show that values were one of the biggest predictors for Work-family conflict and Family-work conflict.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine motivation, perceived health, and health profile assessments. The motivation was measured through the three basic psychological needs included in the Self-Determination Theory; autonomy, competence and relatedness. This was conducted through a Swedish translation of the Basic Needs Satisfaction at Work Scale (BNS), together with questions about perceived health and the results from the participants’ previously conducted health profile assessments. The study was carried out at a real-estate company, located in the county of Västra Götaland with 69 potential respondents. Of those who opted to participate, 15 were men and 12 were women. The results with help of Cohen's d reported that there were some gender-differences based on the experience of the basic psychological needs. The largest of the differences was found in the need of relatedness, where women tended to value this need higher than men. It was also possible to see lager differences between the needs in different age groups. The results showed that participants who were 50 years or older had valued the need for autonomy higher than they who were younger. By looking at differences between the two age groups this also showed that participants of the younger age group (49 years or younger) tended to experience their health as better than those who were older. Furthermore, perceived health tended to differ between the genders. According to the results from the sample, men tended to experience their general health slightly better than the women. However, none of the results in the study showed any statistical significance.

    Abstract [en]

There is a lack of research on how the relationship between the concept of employee resilience and each individual feature of the dark triad looks like among workers. The purpose of this study is therefore to fill the knowledge gap and examine the relationship between employee resilience and machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy that are part of the dark triad. A quantitative study was based on the validated measuring instruments Employee Resilience Scale (EmpRes) and Short Dark Triad (SD3). The study included 120 working respondents. With a multiple regression analysis, the relationship between employee resilience and the dark triad: machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy was studied, controlling for background variables. The results indicate that employees with higher machiavellianism tend to have lower employee resilience, which can be a challenge for the organization.

    Abstract [en]

The issue of gender and equality in organizations is a highly relevant topic of investigation. Organizations are according to Swedish law (SFS 1991:433, §9 & Diskrimineringsombudsmannen, 2009) obliged to constantly work to achieve equal work conditions for their employees. The aim of this study is to investigate how the company work and can be able to work with gender and equality in order to eventually get equal groups and departments. The was carried out by means of interviews with people working in a company in West Sweden. Codes and themes have been identified through thematic analysis of the material. The results show that recruitment is a salient factor that the respondents pointed out as significant with regard to gender and equality work in the company. Commitment and focus are additional factors that respondents believe are important to create a significant foundation for implementing such a major change. We conclude that it is important that organizations work actively to create more equal workgroups and departments.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to examine how professional caretakers perceive the effects on children with parents who suffers from substance- or alcohol abuse. The results of the study was based on eight semi-casual interviews that were conducted with professional caretakers who had relevant experience within childcare. The data that was gathered through the study was analyzed through the qualitative method of thematic analysis. The study was presented with six constructed themes which were recurring throughout the interviews. The themes could indicatehow a child could get affected by an addiction-induced environment. The themes were: ''child confidentiality'', ''early responsibility'', ''lack of trust and security'', ''stress and anxiety'', ''low self-esteem'' and ''apathy''. The results illuminate that the caretakers addiction has a negative effect on the child's development. The child tends to not develop an ability to cope with their feelings and suffer from a general lack of trust. The children of caretakers who suffers from addiction tendto result in a childhood were the child has to take a large amount of responsibility whilst they at the same time tend to get a low amount of appreciation for their efforts which tends to lead to low self-esteem

Intuitionsbaserade beslut inom rekrytering: En studie om intuition, personlighet och emotionell intelligens2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In a recruitment process, recruiters make daily decision on which candidates are best suited for specific position. Research shows that standardized recruitment methods have a high predictive value that can explain individuals' future performance. Nevertheless, many professionals prefer intuition-based working methods. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the connection between personality, emotional intelligence and the attitude of using intuition in recruitment decisions. When collecting empirical data, a web-survey was constructed consisting of three tests that measured personality (Big-Six), Emotional Intelligence (TEIque-SF) and intuition methods when hiring. The sample consisted of 100 recruitment professionals within Human Resource. The results of the study indicate that people who are positively committed to the use of intuition in recruitment decisions are more extroverted. The result also indicates that people who are negative to the use of intuition in recruitment decisions are more emotional stable and honest-humility.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how school personnel experience available student support. The study was conducted at a school in western Sweden, using interviews with six participants from the school personnel. Participants in the study were six people with different professions at the school where the professions: school nurse, school curator and teachers were included. The method used was a qualitative method. There are very few research reports that highlight issues of availability of student health, from a personnel-related perspective with the qualitative research method. With quantitative research method, there are more available research reports but they are still relatively few. This study resulted in six different themes that describe how and to what extent school personnel feel that they are available to students. This essay for the most part used the term student health, which includes the work of school personnel involved for the students’ well-being, both physically and mentally, following existing laws and regulations. The essay concludes with a discussion on essential elements and ideas about future work with these issues.

    Abstract [en]

The task of managing and performing customer contact is of great importance to a company, as the employee who performs the task is the representative of the company, and plays an important part in how the company is perceived. For the employee to be able to contribute to a successful service appointment, it is imperative that the employees feel motivated. How employees in customer-related professions view their motivation and which factors spur them on was the starting point of this study. In this study five employees contributed, all with customer related tasks. Data was collected by semi-structured interviews. Via a thematic analysis, the result showed that the most important motivational factor was the need for satisfying communication with coworkers, supervisors and customers. Like a catalyst, the interaction with others affected the internal desire to perform, and therefore influenced the individual workers motivation in a positive way. Other factors highlighted were the need to feel belonged and associated, and also to receive feedback on a daily basis. Also, the need to feel challenged by the work they perform, opportunities to advance and working towards the goals they set for themselves is central. These factors were discussed based on different motivational theories related to present research. This study’s contribution is a deeper understanding of what motivates the employees with customer-based professions within this company. By highlighting these factors the company may get a better understanding of what motivates employees and, if they want to, chose to focus their energy and resources towards them

    Abstract [en]

The convention on the Rights of the Child becomes Swedish law on January 1, 2020. The Government believes that it is necessary to ensure that the convention is applied at all levels in the country.

The purpose of the study is to investigate how professionals within the National Board of Institutional Care experience whether the convention will change their way of working.

The study results are based on semi-structured interviews with 7 people from SiS. This study used the trans-theoretical model of behavior change and the theory of planned behavior. For the analysis of the material, the qualitative method thematic analysis was used. In the results of the thematic analysis, three themes emerged: attitudes, knowledge, and views on self-control in addition to an overall theme regarding behavioral changes.

The results show that the respondents, depending on their professional role, had different perceptions about how the upcoming changes would affect their future work situation. It was shown that, depending on perceived self-control and own knowledge of the convention that affected if they were inclined to change their behavior. The study may be a contribution to research on attitudes influence on behavioral changes. The final discussion further highlights the importance of a knowledge lift among the public regarding the rights of the child.

    Abstract [en]

Bullying is a major global problem that is prevalent among young people. The aim of the present study is to investigate mental health and tobacco, alcohol and drug use and child disclosure related to bullying. The study intended to verify background variables such as gender, ethnicity and enjoyment of the area one lives in. The following questions were formulated: (a) Is there any connection between mental health, tobacco, alcohol and drug use, child disclosure and bullying? (b) How does bullying relate to mental health, tobacco, alcohol and drug use and child disclosure while controlling for gender, ethnicity and enjoyment of the area? To study this area, we used a quantitative approach with material from the LoRDIA (Longitudinal Research on Development In Adolescence) study in 2015. The study included 1324 students from two small and two medium-sized cities in Jönköping’s and Västra Götaland’s county in southern Sweden. The result indicate that there is a statistically significant relationship between bullying, mental health, tobacco, alcohol and drug use, as well as child disclosure. The most interesting result of the study shows that there is a significant difference between boys and girls bullying behavior: Boys are more involved in bullying than girls, and their bullying behavior is predicted by tobacco, alcohol, and drug use and child disclosure and perceived enjoyment of the area they live in, while girls bullying related to mental health, child disclosure, ethnicity and enjoyment of the area they live in.

Existentiell krishantering: en kvalitativ studie om hur HR-chefer hanterar existentiella hot från omvärlden2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Existential crisis management within organizations should be constantly maintained and updated. Taking into account an increasingly uncertain environment, we believe it is highly relevant to examine HR's role from an organizational perspective in the event of existential threats. The purpose of the study is to investigate what challenges HR managers experience and what organizational strategies HR managers apply in their work with existential threats.

To answer the purpose and questions, a qualitative research method was chosen. When collecting data, eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with candidates from both private and public enterprises. Furthermore, the material was analyzed thematically, which in turn resulted in three main themes which are preventive work, organizational survival and the importance of HR in crisis situations.

The results indicated that preventive crisis work benefits the organization once the crisis is over, but that organizational survival is still the biggest challenge in existential threats. The results also showed that HR is important for the organization's survival as they work both strategically and supportively. The supportive work leads to managers and employees being able to experience meaningfulness in their work despite existential threats from the outside world. This in turn can contribute to a more resilient culture that generates the ability to survive existential threats

Kvinnors attityd till fängelsevistelse i Sverige: Hot eller vård under avtjänande av straff?2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract [en]

The centre of Child and Youth Studies at University West works strategically with other regional research environments and institutions that study children, youths and young adults. The goal of our research centre is to spread knowledge about the social conditions under which children and young people live, thereby strengthening their position in society. Collaboration with external research environments is one of the ways that our research domain works to reach that goal. Partnerships are formed through a model that strives to create good conditions for both our research and that of our partners. This model is grounded in a dialogue between research partners who work together to select areas of interest and formulate hypotheses. These research projects are financed equally by the university and our partners. The following report is the result of one of  these research partnerships.Advanced industrial society has been replaced by a society based upon knowledge and information where industrial work/manufacturing becomes less common. Västervik is one of the small towns in Sweden whose main industries have closed down or severely decreased their workforce during the last few decades of great structural change. The groups in the job market that have been most affected by these changes are young men and women, something which is evident in the high unemployment rates among the young population. The purpose of this study was to investigate young people’s own experiences and thoughts regarding their own situation as jobseekers in the municipality of Västervik. How do they see themselves and the situation they find themselves in? The narratives were collected in the form of 18 in-depth interviews with young men and women between the ages of 19-25, all them registered at the job center in Västervik. In the report different aspects of their situation are discussed, such as: the young people’s relation to their hometown, their thoughts on the meaning and value of work, the role of education, the economic, social and emotional consequences of unemployment, and their experiences of taking part in various programs for unemployed. The narratives we have encountered can be seen as having some general validity in the sense that many of their experiences are probably shared by other unemployed young people in other locations in Sweden, but Västervik is also a specific town with a specific history and specific conditions. The young men and women have an ambivalent relationship to their hometown. On the one hand they want to start a life in the same location, but on the other, the future there is seen as very uncertain. Many of those interviewed would like to have the kind of industrial jobs that their parents have and grandparents experienced, but which are nowadays less and less common. The norm of a fulltime job is strong among the young men and women – something which strengthens the image of the evident dissonance between their seemingly traditional dreams and intentions and the structures of possibilities the municipality and community suggest for them. Connected to this are the ways the young people must relate to the postindustrial demands of employability – which means the ability to enterprise and market oneself on a competitive market. These demands presuppose abilities that are more likely to be socialized and practiced in certain social environments rather than in others, and the majority of the young men and women interviewed have a background in aworking class environment where these values and approaches are far from selfevident. The socioeconomic marginalization that these young people experienceresults in much curtailed possibilities for a period of youthful experimentation aswell as for an expected adulthood. Being unemployed means one has difficulty ingaining the status of an adult, but due to economic shortages, there are also limits to how much they can take part in this experimental lifestyle that characterizes youth. The young men and women’s situation can thereby be seen as a grey zone; they are neither young nor adults in the normative sense. In some of the narratives the young people express critical thoughts with regard to the social conditions that their difficult situation can be related to. By extension, expressing these thoughts and stating their opinion can be strengthening and mobilizing for them, both as individuals and as a group. Insights may be gained about unemployment as a shared experience rather than as a personal failure

Young working class men without work: re-imagining masculinity in post-industrial societies2015Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This paper discusses narratives from young working class men, living in a small Swedish town located outside the emerging economic regions. Like in many other European countries the rate of unemployment among youth is disproportionally high in Sweden. From a broad material of in-depth interviews with unemployed young people the issue of masculinity in relation to work is an emerging, though not always specified or articulated, theme. Industrial societies has turned post-industrial. The labor market has undergone major structural changes during the last four decades and since working class masculinity traditionally has been closely connected to wage labor and to the ability to provide for oneself as well as for others - being the main breadwinner of the family - masculinity is forced to be re-imagined. In the ongoing construction of identity and young masculinity, nostalgic images of a recently lost way of life where employment meant hard labor but also a durable and respected position in the community, are retold. Parallel to these narratives and sometimes in opposition to them, there are also wishes and dreams of alternative ways of relating one's own role, identity and masculinity to a different set of work ethics where neither wage labor nor traditional masculinity need to form it´s stable categories.

Adolescents' self-defining internet experiences2015In: Technology and youth: growing up in a digital world / [ed] Kinney, David A., Bass, Loretta, Blair, Sampson Lee, Neff Claster, Patricia, Emerald Group Publishing Limited, 2015, p. 105-131Chapter in book (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

AbstractPurposeThe purpose of this study was to investigate how young women and men perceive the Internet as a phenomenon and what role and meaning they ascribe to the Internet as an arena for defining themselves and for shaping their identity.Methodology/approachThe empirical data consist of narratives written by Swedish adolescents. Using content analysis the analysis was carried out in three steps: (1) finding categories and themes, (2) calculation of statistical differences in category frequencies, (3) a theoretically informed interpretation of central themes, using Bourdieu's concept of different forms of capital, and Giddens' concept of "pure relations."FindingsThe narratives exemplify how computer literacy and technological competence can be converted into social, cultural, and symbolic capital. Gender differences occur both in statistical differences between category frequencies in girls' and boys' narratives and in the interpretation of central themes. But there are also several examples that show more complex and contradictory tendencies, exceeding or transformative of gender differences and hierarchy.Originality/valueThis study considers adolescents' own perspectives on an arena of great importance. The analyses have been performed both qualitatively and quantitatively, which gives a nuanced picture of young people's self-defining experiences on the Internet.

    Abstract [en]

The reliability of eyewitness statements has long been considered of great importance for the application of legal certainty in legal systems. Incorrect testimonies are troublesome as eyewitnesses often play a central role in criminal investigations. According to research and news, inaccurate testimonies have been presented as factors for convicting people for crimes for which they were innocent.

One way to examine the reliability of eyewitness statements has been to study confidentiality assessments (the eyewitness' relationship between correct memories and the degree of certainty that information provided is accurate). This study investigated whether realism in confidence assessments was negatively affected by stress based on 5 measures.

Through convenience selection 40 participants aged 19 years to 55 years participated. Of the participants, 58% were women and 42% men. The study was conducted as an experimental intergroup design in which the participants were randomly allocated to an experimental group and a control group. A variant of the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) was used for the purpose of adding stress to the experimental group in the form of an elevated pulse. Participants watched a movie and answered questions with associated confidence assessments.

The result of t-tests for independent groups indicated that the experimental group had poorer memory compared to the control group and a reversed result against what previous research has presented about the realism of the eyewitnesses in confidence assessments. The study contained deficiencies and failed to add stress to the experimental group, which meant that the results could not be generalized. The current study should instead be seen as an interesting element for research in the field with suggestions for suitable changes in similar studies.

    Abstract [en]

Previous studies in the field of personality have been carried out for many years where the results show that personality are important for different life outcomes. However, few studies have investigated relationships between personality and organizational commitment. Previous research shows that organizations can avoid unnecessary costs by hiring people who tend to contribute with high levels of 3 organizational commitment. Thus, our study sought to preserve investigating relationships between personality and organizational commitment. A quantitative method was used, and data collection was done through a web-based questionnaire consisting of 48 statements. The questionnaire consisted of two established instruments, the IPIP-30 and the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ), which intend to measure personality dimensions and organizational commitment. A total of 155 people participated in the study (M =34 years, SD = 12, Range 18-64years, 75% women) with average period of employment in their organization of 6.5years (SD = 8.5, range 0.7-44 years). The results were partly in line with previous research where the personality dimensions of neuroticism, conscientiousness and agreeableness have been shown to predict organizational commitment. An unexpected result in the present study was that extraversion did not show any relationship with organizational commitment. A regression analysis testified that personality could explain ≈ 20% of the variance in organizational commitment. The results contribute to increased knowledge that personality can be used as a predictor of organizational commitment. Our conclusion is that personality can be used as a predictor for finding individuals who tend to be loyal, which is an investment for organizations in order to avoid high turnover and unnecessary costs, as well as obtain individuals who tend to contribute the little extra.

    Abstract [en]

The growth of absenteeism has in recent years led to high costs for sick leave and early retirement in the public budgets. This study is based on quantitative data obtained through a designed questionnaire. The purpose of the study was to identify factors that correlate with the high short-term absence for sickness among temporary employees at a company. Previous studies have shown an association with short-term sick leave and leadership variables such as, perceived stress, motivation and tasks. The study's problem main question included these four disciplines. These were then analyzed in relation to age, sex and number of times the employee had been at home despite having been able to work. The study included temporary employees aged 18 to retirement-age. Of the 90 employees a total of 40 surveys were gathered. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskall-Wallis tests were used to calculate the differences between groups (age and sex). Spearman’s rank correlation was used to calculate the relationship between variables. Results of the study showed that women appeared to have stayed at home more frequently than men even though they would have been able to work. The study also revealed that there was a significant difference between the variable "to stay at home despite the fact that the individual was able to work

Moralisk vitalism: En undersökning av prediktorer för individers grad av tro på gott och ont som krafter med agens2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Moral vitalism describes a belief in good and evil forces as independent, and thinking, agents that possess the capacity to influence people and events in the world. The concept of moral vitalism and the instruments to measure the degree of belief in said concept was introduced by Bain et al. (2015). Previous research suggests a potential correlation between the extent of belief in moral vitalism and spirituality (Bain et al., 2015) and the personality trait neuroticism (Lace, 2016).

The purpose of the present study was to examine these relations further.

The study used a quantitative design and had 51 participants. For the collection of data concerning personal values, the Portrait Values Questionnaire 40-items (Schwarts, 2012) was used and for the measuring of neuroticism, the Big Five Index (John & Srivastava, 1999) was used.

The results of the study point to, based on the present sample, a positive correlation between conservative values and the extent of belief in moral vitalism. Within the limitations of the study's sample size, this indicates that individuals who have conservative values tend to a greater extent to believe in moral vitalism.

Relapse prevention therapy for internet gaming disorder in Swedish child and adolescent psychiatric clinics: a randomized controlled trial2023In: Frontiers in Psychiatry, E-ISSN 1664-0640, Vol. 14Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of relapse prevention (RP) as a treatment for internet gaming disorder (IGD).

    Design: Randomized controlled trial.

Setting: Three child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP) units in Region Skåne, Sweden.

Participants: Children aged 13-18 years, coming for their first visit to CAP during 2022, were screened for gaming behavior. Those who met the proposed DSM-5 criteria for IGD were offered participation in the trial, if they had the capacity to provide written informed consent and if they spoke Swedish. A total of 111 CAP patients agreed to participate. Out of those, 11 patients were excluded due to incorrect inclusion such as young age (n = 1), or due to the absence of responses to follow-up measures (n = 9). After exclusion, 102 participants remained (intervention = 47, control = 55).

Interventions: The intervention, RP, is based on cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) and was provided individually, comprising of five to seven 45-min sessions over a period of 5 to 7 weeks versus treatment as usual.

Outcome measures: Participants were assessed with Game Addiction Scale for Adolescents pre-treatment (GASA) (baseline), post-treatment (treatment group only), and 3 months after baseline (follow-up).

Results: The repeated measures ANOVA showed a significant interaction effect between treatment and time. Both the control group and treatment group lowered their mean GASA score from baseline to follow-up significantly, but the improvement was greater in the treatment group (mean difference in control group -5.1, p < 0.001, 95% CI = - 3.390 to -6.755, mean difference in treatment group -9.9, p < 0.001, 95% CI = -11.746 to -8.105).

Conclusion: RP was found to be superior to treatment as usual in terms of reduction of IGD symptoms. Future research should address which aspects within a given treatment are effective, who benefits from treatment, in what aspects, and why.

    Abstract [en]

The frequency of crises within preschools is ever increasing. The purpose of the study is to investigate how the preschool staff perceives preparedness for such crisis. Talking openly about the subject, setting up a crisis plan which involves the staff, and practicing the plan regularly may increase individual self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is a person's belief in their own ability to exercise a specific behavior in a specific situation. Through semi-structured interviews with preschool staff the results shows that preschools lacking a crisis plan generate worry about safety and a sense of insecurity among the staff. Those who have a crisis plan perceive themselves, however, more confident and prepared. The result shows that the staff also requested discussions and training on how to handle crisis, as well as regular training beyond fire drills.

Relationella erfarenheter och stresshantering: Hur coping och anknytning förhåller sig till varandra2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In 2017 every fourth employee had a psychologically demanding work (Arbetsmiljöverket, 2018). The ability to handle psychological demand is determined by prior experiences in close relationships but also by the ability to seek out social support (Berry & Kingswell, 2012; Howard & Medway, 2004).

The purpose of this study was to examine: 1. How does attachment covary with coping-strategies? and 2. How does attachment covary with the tendency to seek out social support as a coping strategy?

The survey consisting of two forms, attachment style questionnaire (Feeney, Noller & Hanrahan, 1994) and Brief COPE (Carver, 1997) was sent out. Out of 70 hotel employees, we received 28 answers; the average age was 35 years, and 22 of the respondents were women and 6 were men.

The result showed a positive covariance between secure attachment and emotional coping just as with social support seeking. The study also showed a positive association with problem-focused coping. Simultaneously it showed a positive covariance between unsecure-anxious attachment and dysfunctional coping. It also showed a positive association between unsecure-avoidant attachment and dysfunctional coping, and furthermore it showed a negative association between unsecure-avoidant attachment and problem-focused coping but also with social support seeking. Hence the result showed that secure attached is more prone to use constructive stress-reducing strategies and to engage in social support seeking.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to try to make a chart of views around a Common Constructive Empowerment (CCE) in order to set base for a platform to stand on due to further work around empowerment in organizations. The study is a qualitative research with a casestudy as a fundamental design with an approach to positive psychology, which was carried out in a chemical industry. The data collection took place in focused group interviews with four to six participants/interview. At these interviews four focus areas were discussed; common empowerment, leadership, shared leadership and coaching. In the study five themes has been defined that can be seen as a platform; responsibility, confidence, communication, cooperation and commitment. The base for a platform consists of five words that can be seen as a mutual language in order to keep on with the communication; confidence, honesty, reliability, responsibility and communication.

Upplevt innovativt organisationsklimat: En kvantitativ studie bland tjänstemännen på Swedish Match2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Innovativeness within the organization is a relevant competitive tool for today's businesses. The Swedish-based tobacco company, Swedish Match has in recent years increased its focus on developing an organizational climate where innovation is encouraged.

The aim of this study was to examine to what extent the variation in perceived innovative climate at Swedish Match could be explained by the employees' basic fundamental values and the lengths of their employments within the company. The study was conducted within Supply Chain and concerned officials within this area of business. The foundation for this study is based on theories in the following areas: organizational climate, innovativeness within organizations and Schwartz model of the relationships between different values.

The method used was quantitative and the data was collected trough a two-part questionnaire. The first part concerned the participants' basic fundamental values, designed to measure whether the officers had a stronger desire for openness towards change, or towards conservatism. The second part aimed to investigate the extent to which the participants perceived the organizational climate as innovative.

The results showed that the perceived innovative organizational climate could not be explained by the officials basic fundamental values as the relationship between these variables was close to zero. A medium strong correlation was measured between the length of employment within the company and perceived innovative climate. This result indicated that the officials who had worked longer at Swedish Match perceived a higher degree of innovative organizational climate than those who had worked less time. None of these two correlations were statistically significant hence the study focused on discussing the medium strong relationship between the length of employment and perceived innovative climate.

    Abstract [en]

The police profession is a profession exposed to stress related problems. Because of high demands at work it creates risks for stress to arise. Social support is a factor which can reduce individuals' stress because it contributes to increased wealth and functions as a protection against stress. The study used the demand, control and support model and the purpose was to find out how general stress with police officers could be explained by the variables demand, control and social support. The purpose was also to investigate if any of the variables gender, age or number of years on work could explain general stress with the police officers. To answer the questions a quantitative approach was chosen. The questionnaire was created online but was also handed out in paper format at local police stations. It was 32 police officers in Västra Götaland who participated in the study, 21 men and 11 women. The result in the study showed a negative strong relationship between social support and stress. This indicated that when police officers experienced less social support they experienced more stress. Another strong positive relationship showed between demand and stress which meant that when police officers experienced high demand at work they experienced more stress. The variables control, age and years within work had strong negative relationships with stress.
