The relationship between perceived organizational support and organizational commitment (English)
Abstract [sv]

Tankar kring framtida forskning redovisades.

Abstract [en]

This study was conducted to find possible links and differences between the two main variables: organizational commitment and perceived organizational support (POS). The purpose of this study was primarily to examine the relationship between organizational commitment and perceived organizational support and in addition, to investigate if other variables, such as; sex, age, employment status, type of organization and industry, interacts with organizational commitment. 120 individuals participated by answering an online-form through social media sites, Facebook and LinkedIn. The sample consisted of both women (n =84) and men (n =36), with ages ranging from 18 to 62. The measurement "8-item Survey of Perceived Organizational Support" (SPOS8) was used to measure POS. Organizational commitment was measured by using a three-dimensional scale, "Organizational Commitment Scale", that included affective commitment, normative commitment and continuance commitment. The results showed a statistically significant, positive medium-strong correlation between POS and organizational commitment where the dimension "affective commitment" correlated statistically significantly and the strongest with POS. Differences between the groups "forms of employment" (full time, part time and seasonal employees) were also shown to be statistically significant. The results reported in this study were in line with previous presented research. The importance of the results was discussed with reference to previous research. Thoughts regarding future research were presented.
