Abstract [sv]

Voice over IP (VoIP) är en tidskänslig typ av data, där hög latens resulterar i obrukbara samtal. Målet är att hålla latensen nere samtidigt som fler finesser önskas, som till exempel säkerhet mot avlyssning. Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) är en samling av protokoll som gör att datatrafik skickas krypterad genom en tunnel - utan slutanvändarens vetskap. Ett problem som uppstår vid krypteringen är att latens läggs på data, vilket inte är en positiv förutsättning för VoIP. När krypteringsalgoritmer blir mer komplexa blir de även säkrare, men det tar längre tid och kan då påverka realtidsapplikationer negativt eftersom mer komplexa algoritmer tar längre tid att kryptera och dekryptera.I denna rapport undersöks IPsec, kryptografi, VoIP och sambandet mellan dessa. De mätningar som görs visar vilken krypteringsalgoritm som är mest effektiv i samband med kryptering av VoIP. Resultatet visar vilka krypteringsalgoritmer som klarar att krypteras genom IPsec i en kontrollerad labbmiljö utan att påverka kvalitén på ett samtal.

Abstract [en]

Voice over IP (VoIP) is a time sensitive type of data, where high latency results in unusable phone calls. The goal is to keep the latency down while new features are desired, such as security as prevention against monitoring. Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) is a protocol suite used for securing data traffic through a tunnel - without the end users awareness. A problem that may occur when IPsec is encrypting data, delay will be added which is not a favourable condition for VoIP. When encryption algorithms become more complex, they become more secure, but with the cost of longer encryption and decryption times which in turn may have a negative effect on real-time applications.This report examines IPsec, cryptography, VoIP and the relationship between them. The measurement shows which encryption algorithm that is most effective in conjunction with encryption of VoIP. The results show which encryption algorithms that may be used without affecting the quality of a VoIP call in a controlled lab environment.
