Abstract [en]
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the latent meaning of Sweden Democrats (SD) ideology. In order to do so we analyze how the relationship between nationalism and multiculturalism is constructed. By examining the relationship between nationalism and multiculturalism, one can determine if SD ideology point to racist elements or not. Choosing a single case study provides a more in-depth understanding of SD ideology. Based on the ontology of social constructivism and theories of nationalism, multiculturalism and racism, a qualitative textual analysis has been conducted in order to describe how these concepts are constructed in SD ideology. This analysis shows that there is an existing relationship between nationalism and multiculturalism, where SD enhances their nationalistic ideas and beliefs upon the negative ideas of multiculturalism. Through the relationship between nationalism and multiculturalism, one can find racist elements in SD ideology. SD categorizes individuals based on culture and justifies different treatment according to one's culture. Some cultures will be treated worse than others, which points to cultural racism.
