An individual perspective on safety among military commanders and soldiers (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The study examines how military personnel describe the word safety. The interviews concentrate on two locations in Sweden. Informants are working in units that have similar tasks with the same competence requirements of staff. A total of 9 people participated, 7 men and 2 women. The results showed that some respondents ask for a clearer commitment from management. Study participants also expressed that security is an integrated part when the exercise will be planned. Safety Instruction (SäkI) is a natural part of all activities within the organization and affects the individual's work. Guides for how safety will be conducted and the management's commitment were by the informants believed to be important components for safety. Feedback on incident reports projected an image of an organization that does not learn from their mistakes. According to previous research, knowledge, motivation and commitment are essential for the safety climate and affect the performance and compliance of safety regulations.
