Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study is based on an interest to highlight the middle manager's role in the workplace and also to find new and better understanding of why their work has increased in the later period. Middle manager´s work is a complex task that involves many things and this is our purpose with this study. Also to find out how real middle managers perceive their work situation and how they handle problems that arise. The research questions that this study is based on are; Is there any difference between managers in different hierarchical positions? What does the manager's relationship with management look like? What has been the middle manager´s role in the change process? In order to answer these research questions, we used a qualitative research method where we have implemented several different interviews.

Through these interviews, we have seen some different aspects that influence the manager's job and how respondents themselves perceive and handle the problems that come with the job. We have found both common and distinct factors surrounding our respondents, which we consider to be a pervasive aspect about this study because they illustrate that each work is different even though they have equivalent duties and the same title. This study also sheds light on topics including leadership, the vision scientists and the middle managers has on the role and the simple and decentralized organizational structure. The study's conclusion about the responses we received from our respondents and previous research means that everything depends. We can also conclude from our respondents and collected theoretical material there are both similarities and differences, but everything is based on that the middle manager take responsibility of their work and their responsibilities in order to succeed in his role as a middle manager.
