Vår studie riktar sig till omsorgsgivare och enhetschefer inom äldreomsorgen som en inspiration till att arbeta utvecklande med empowerment inom området.

Syftet med studien är att jäm-föra omsorgstagares och omsorgsgivares inställningar och upplevelser av delaktighet, brukar-inflytande och självbestämmande. Vi har genomfört en kvalitativ studie med halvstrukturerade intervjuer tillsammans med tre omsorgstagare och tre omsorgsgivare på ett särskilt boende inom äldreomsorgen. I vår analys av omsorgstagarnas upplevelser har vi valt att utgå ifrån empowerment med de tillhörande begreppen delaktighet, brukarinflytande och självbestämmande. Utöver detta har vi vid analysen av omsorgsgivarnas upplevelser utgått ifrån hur empowerment främjas inom ramen för professionell och strukturell makt.

Resultatet visar att omsorgstagarnas möjlighet till delaktighet, brukarinflytande och självbestämmande sker inom ramen för verksamhetens struktur. Vidare, visar vårt resultat att det skiljer sig i upplevelserna gällande möjligheterna till delaktighet, brukarinflytande och självbestämmande på det särskilda boendet. Det framkommer av vårt resultat att självbestämmande är svårt att uppnå, samt att det råder en begreppsförvirring hos omsorgsgivarna angående delaktighet, brukarin-flytande och självbestämmande där lagens tolkningsbarhet inverkar till denna begreppsförvirring.

Our study is directed to caregivers and unit managers in the geriatric care, as a way to inspire development of empowerment within geriatric care.

The study aims to compare attitudes and experiences of caretakers and caregivers, towards participation, caretaker-influence and self-determination. We have conducted a qualitative study with semi-structured interviews with three caretakers and three caregivers at a home for elderly. As our point of departure in the analysis of the caretakers' perceptions, we have chosen to use the empowerment theory, to-gether with the related concepts: participation, caretaker-influence, and self-determination. In addition to this we have, in the analysis of the caregivers' perceptions, looked at how empowerment is being promoted within the context of professional and structural power.

The result shows that the caretakers' opportunities for participation, caretaker-influence and self-determination, takes place accordingly to the operations' resources and time for the caretakers. Furthermore, our result shows differences in the perceptions, regarding the opportunities for participation, caretaker-influence, and self-determination, at the home for elderly.

In the result of the study, it emerges that self-determination is hard to achieve, and that in addition to this, there is a conceptual confusion amongst the caretakers regarding participation, caretaker-influence, and self-determination, since the ability to interpret the law give room for this kind of conceptual confusion
