Personality traits of whistleblowers: : a quantitative study of nursing students (English)
Abstract [sv]

60 personer ingick i studien.

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there was a correlation between the tendency to report, being a whistleblower, and certain personality traits. Although it is possible to partly predict whistleblowing based on a specific personality traits and the number years in the profession, the interpretation of personality traits in itself can also be of great importance. 60 people participated in the study. Participants were nursing students at their first semester at University West. The gender distribution was 51 women and 8 men with an average age of M = 25.86 and an average of three years of work experience in healthcare. Respondents were presented with two different anomalous scenarios. One had a milder problems, and the other a more complex representation. In Scenario 1, the milder, a positive correlation between the personality traits openness and a negative correlation with the personality traits agreeableness and self-rated tendency with reporting the anomaly was found. Both results were significant. To predict the likelihood that an employee will report anomalies based on number of years in the profession and personality traits such as openness proved to be possible.
