Nurses' views on management's safety : A quantitative study on trust, organizational identificationand safety climate (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Trust can be linked with confidence when speaking of confidence in another person's actions and reliability. The concept of organizational identification (OID) describes the degree to which individuals identify with their organization. OID affects the level of trust in management, and the extent to which employees identify with the organization's values and goals. The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' degree of confidence in management's safety work and how the correlation appeared between trust, OID, and number of years employed in the organization. The study was based on two issues: 1) Is there a link between perceived trust in management's safety and level of OID and will it in this study be considered a positive correlation? 2) What is the connection between the nurses' length of service, age and level of OID? The study was conducted using a quantitative method, and data were collected through a questionnaire survey. The sample consisted of 42 nurses at a hospital in the Västra Götaland region. The survey instrument was based on two established questionnaires where relevant issues to study were selected in order to measure the variables trust and OID. The collected data were interpreted and analyzed in the software IBM SPSS Statistics21. The result was based on responses from 32 nurses, when 10 questionnaires were disregarded. The study results showed that the degree of trust in management and the degree of OID depends on each other. To a large extent, having faith in management's safety was related to a high degree of OID experience with the organization. Results also showed that the degree of OID did not increase with the age or the number of years in the organization. Previous research with the results of the study revealed the importance of the relationship between the level of perceived trust in management and the OID
