Is emotionell intelligence here to stay? (English)
Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
Emotional intelligence is a concept that in recent decades has been more and more talked about. The concept is often described by other concepts such as motivation, empathy, social skills, warmth and optimism. The present study focuses on the emotional intelligence of managers, and variables that correlate with Ronthys emotional intelligence. The study included 95 managers in Gothenburg and Mölndal. In order to answer the questions of the study, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regressions were used. The dependent variable was Ronthy’s emotional intelligence and independent variables were emotional intelligence as measured by well-tested instruments (BEIS-10 and HrQM empathy). The results showed that there was a sex difference and there was a statistically significant difference regarding HrQM empathy, and variable BEIS-10 (1) assessment of their own feelings. ANOVA revealed no significant differences in Ronthys emotional intelligence in relation to work position. Based on the regression analysis, HrQM empathy, BEIS-10 (4) regulation of the feelings of others and BEIS-10 (5) emotion explained part of the variance in Ronthy’s emotional intelligence. HrQM empathy explained more of the variance than the other variables, although the differences were small. The conclusion showed, according to the current sample, that there was no significant difference between women and men in Ronthy’s emotional intelligence. Women showed, according to self-ratings, more HrQM empathy in their leadership than men, which is interesting because empathy is said to be a part of emotional intelligence
