Abstract [en]

The essay examines the intentions underpinning for why girls take selfies, and how

they reflect on it. A study has been made where seven girls aged 18-19 years that everyone is active on Instagram and publishes selfies more frequently were interviewed. The purpose of this study is to try to clarify if there is a correlation between girls' self-image and identity through the publication of selfies. This is investigated by the theories of identity formation through social networks, as well as the preparation of face vs the body and its importance. The study showed that the biggest reason for the publication of selfies was about to get confirmation. And that the positive response can be seen as a motivating factor to continue to publish selfies this then it generates a confirmation that the person is looking for

Abstract [sv]

Uppsatsen undersöker vilka intentioner som ligger till grund till varför tjejer tar selfies, samt hur de reflekterar över det. En kvalitativ studie har gjorts där 7 tjejer i åldrarna 18 – 19 år som alla är aktiva på Instagram och publicerar selfies mer frekvent har intervjuats. Syftet med studien är att försöka klargöra om det finns ett samband mellan tjejers självbild och identitetsskapande via publiceringen av selfies. Detta undersöks från teorier om identitetsskapande via sociala nätverk, samt framställningen av ansiktet vs kroppen och dess betydelse. Studien visade att den största anledningen till publiceringen av selfies handlade om att få bekräftelse. Samt att den positiva responsen kan ses som en motivationsfaktor till att fortsätta publicera selfies detta då den genererar en bekräftelse som personen är ute efter
