Three steps towards participation : A study of yourh´s experiences of participation in the MTFC program (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to describe youth´s experiences of Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC) that they have undergone for their antisocial behavior. The study highlights the concept of participation experienced by the youth´s during the treatment period in MTFC. The study is inspired by a phenomenological perspective and qualitative interviews were chosen as a method to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of youth´s. Three youth´s between the age of 16-19 years old are included in the study with the quotations used

in the analysis are taken from their stories. The material was coded and thematized and the following categories were developed: MTFC as a whole, participation, enabling factors to participation and impediments for participation. The analysis of the material has been combined with previous research and theories in which similarities and differences are highlighted. The results showed that youth's experienced the MTFC program as being a good treatment program to be able to change their antisocial behavior. All youth´s consider that a good relationship and trust in the family home have helped them get through the program and when it comes to the relationship with the staff in the MTFC program there is a difference in the descriptions of youth´s depending on the different experiences of participation. The structure and control in the MTFC program have been a clear framework for the youth´s it this study to relate to, which they feels have helped them in their process to change but at the same time it is understood to have been the major impeding factor for participation. The study's conclusions are that the MTFC program can be a good complement to other treatment options for youth´s with antisocial behavior , however , it is clear that some obstacles appears to youth´s rights to participate in the MTFC program
