Women's feelings associated with breast cancer : a study based on blogs (English)
Abstract [en]

Background:

Breast cancer is the most common cancer disease among women in Sweden today. Being diagnosed with cancer is experienced as a crisis and evokes many strong feelings. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe women's feelings when they have received a breast cancer diagnosis and the feelings during the course of treatment. Method: The study was conducted by analyzing the text from nine blogs written by mothers with breast cancer of the ages 18-50. The working process used in this study was "To analyze stories (narratives)". Results: Nine categories were found: Sense of chaos, feeling of despair, feelings of anxiety, feeling of being at the mercy, sense of vulnerability, feelings of guilt, feelings of being excited, the feeling of being confident and feeling of joy in life. Conclusion: During the women’s breast cancer illness and treatment many emotions occur, both positive and negative. It is important for nurses to have an understanding of what emotions these women experiences to be able to help these women in their illness and give good care
